    Artykuł omawia przestrzenne, funkcjonalne i symboliczne skutki ataku terrorystycznego, który został dokonany w Nowym Jorku 11 września 2001 roku. Zniszczone bliźniacze wieże zostały zastąpione nową WTC One. Jej architektura budzi kontrowersje, lecz prawdopodobnie już wkrótce stanie się nowym symbolem Nowego Jorku. Tragedia 11 września nie zatrzymała rozwoju miasta. Przeciwnie: jego ambicją jest stać się modelem urbanizacji XXI wieku: przyjaznym dla mieszkańców, zrównoważonym miejskim ekosystemem.
    The article presents functional, spatial and symbolic transformations of New York city and its architecture after the terrorist attack of 9/11. Destroyed Twin Towers have been replaced by the new WTC One. Its architecture is controversial, but probably, it will soon became a new symbol of New York. 9/11 tragedy did not stop development of the city. Just contrary: New York’s ambition is to become a model for cities in the 21st century, a resident-friendly and sustainable urban eco-system.

    Opis:
    This article is devoted to the literary images of Lviv in the cycle of stories L’vivska seriia [The Lviv Series]. Created by contemporary Ukrainian women writers, the cycle can be considered a special archive of memory, illustrating the ways of experiencing the city and thinking about it. The study analyses the stories included in the series in two aspects: what Lviv as an entity is like in the memory of Ukrainian writers, and what selected fragments of the remembered Lviv reality they refer to in creating the literary image of the city. These two ways of remembering have been defined as the memory of the city and the memory of the place: the first term is about a systemic approach, presenting the city as a gestalt, and the second one is about specific fragments of urban reality.
    Artykuł jest poświęcony literackim obrazom Lwowa w stworzonym przez współczesne ukraińskie pisarki cyklu opowieści „Seria lwowska”, który może być uznany za szczególne archiwum pamięci, ilustrujące sposoby doświadczania miasta i myślenia o nim. Autorka niniejszego tekstu analizuje wchodzące w skład serii opowiadania pod dwoma aspektami: jaki jest Lwów jako całość w pamięci ukraińskich pisarek oraz do jakich wybranych fragmentów zapamiętanej rzeczywistości lwowskiej odwołują się one w kreowaniu literackiego obrazu miasta. Te dwa sposoby pamiętania określone zostały jako pamięć miasta i pamięć miejsca: w pierwszym przypadku mamy do czynienia z podejściem systemowym, ujmującym miasto jako gestalt, w drugim zaś – z konkretnymi wycinkami miejskiej rzeczywistości.

    The author suggests that research into the socially constructed collective past should be expanded to include motifs of social memory that are negotiated in private discourse and emerge intersubjectively (often unconsciously) at the level of everyday life. She considers the relation between places of memory and memory of places, and between social memory and individual memory. The article is based on empirical material from the reminiscences of Wrocław inhabitants published in the book [Wrocław: I Remember… Wrocław. Pamiętam, że…], which was prepared in connection with Wrocław’s role as European Capital of Culture 2016.

    This article attempts to identify the issues of experiencing the city and its multi-faceted conceptualizations, which are rarely exhibited in research concerning women’s poetry, but often appear in contemporary literature. It offers interpretation of the works of some of the most interesting Polish poets representing various generations (the essay discusses works by Julia Hartwig, Anna Frajlich, and Anna Augustyniak) and worldviews, highlighting specific places and emphasizing the meaning of the senses and emotions in their concretization. It directs attention to the category of experience, examines its constitution and layering progressing in time. It distinguishes particular dimensions – the memory process, the feeling oftransience, irreversible loss – and various relationships between them. The analysis, focusing on depicting the sensual and affective experience of urban space, aims to characterize the category of the subject originally included in poetry and illustrates its transformations.

    Even though Gilbert Keith Chesterton remained a political Rousseauism-like radical throughout his life, with time the ideal of political liberty understood in line with the philosophy of Jean-Jacques Rousseau found less and less vivid expression inhis writings, leaving the most important element animating them virtually invisible for less knowledgeable readers. The aim of this paper is to demonstrate and explain thisfact on the basis of the analysis of one of the most famous poems penned by the English author, entitled To St. Michael, in Times of Peace (1929). The analysis follows the methodology devised by a distinguished Polish scholar, Stefan Sawicki.

    The aim of the article is to show the social context of synagogue architecture on the example of the hitherto unexplored New Synagogue in Czestochowa. The analysis is an attempt to show the relationship between the location of the monument in the urban structure and the experiences of the minority, the history of the community and the Jewish community in the city. Due to the nature of the topic, the analysis was based on the research of archival materials, which is the basic method of work within the art history discipline. In addition to the study of the inventory materials and the object itself, the content of the article refers to the theses of the most important researchers of synagogue architecture and town planning in Poland. An important context of the work were ethnographic and memory-related themes, which are an attempt to present the topic of synagogue architecture in a wider, social context. The greatest value of the paper is the original, so far unprecedented attempt to implement an interdisciplinary perspective in the analysis of synagogues. Moreover, the article deals with the subject of the New Synagogue in Czestochowa, which has not been subject to any systematic study so far. This article was written as part of over six years of research that I am conducting on this subject (research mainly in the context of the architecture of the New Synagogue in Czestochowa).

    Każde miasto ma swój zasób kulturowo‐materialny przechowywany dzięki wielopokoleniowej pamięci. Owa przestrzeń pamięci, stanowi olbrzymi, często słabo wykorzystany potencjał, który odpowiednio i odpowiedzialnie zagospodarowany może dobrze służyć promocji miasta. W referacie przedstawiono możliwości zagospodarowania niezwykle pojemnej łódzkiej przestrzeni pamięci, której projekcja służyć może ożywieniu rozwoju turystyki krajowej i zagranicznej nastawionej docelowo na Łódź. Określono najbardziej wartościowe domeny kultury niematerialnej miasta: tereny szczególnie związane z rozwojem wielonarodowościowego miasta okresu ziemi obiecanej; miejsca heroizmu i solidarności Polaków i Żydów okupione tysiącami ofiar w walce z okupantem; rozwój ośrodka sztuki awangardowej związanej z nazwiskami K. Kobro i W. Strzemińskiego, oraz ponadmaterialny dorobek docenionego w świecie powojennego centrum polskiej kinematografii, które stworzyło gwiazdy formatu: K. Kieślowskiego, R. Polańskiego i A. Wajdy.
    Every city has its own cultural and material resources are kept alive in the memory of consecutive generations. This memory space a huge, often underused potential, which could serve the purpose of promoting the city, if adequately and responsibly developed. The paper presents the development possibilities of the unusually vast Łódź memory space, whose projection may enhance domestic and foreign tourism in Łódź. The author indicates the most valuable domains of the intangible culture of the city: the areas include with the development of this multi‐national industrial city at the time was called a Promised Land; a place of great heroism and solidarity of Poles and Jews, who paid of thousands of victims in a fierce struggle with the occupant; city where avant‐garde art flourished, represented by K. Kobro and W. Strzemiński and appreciated the worldʹs center of postwar Polish cinema with the Stars format: K. Kieslowski, R. Polanski and A. Wajda.

    Podstawowym celem artykułu jest przybliżenie czytelnikom związków miasta Szczecina z Francją, a także zaobserwowanie, w jaki sposób pamięć o obecności francuskiej w zakresie działalności gospodarczej, instytucjonalnej i kulturowej na przestrzeni wieków wpływa na formowanie się pamięci zbiorowej i tożsamości mieszkańców oraz na ich zainteresowanie kulturą francuską współcześnie. W artykule zaprezentowano syntetyczny zarys historii miasta Szczecina i jego związków z Francją, a także zaprezentowano zabytki kultury materialnej, piśmienniczej i artystycznej, które świadczą o trwałych związkach regionu z Francją. Niniejszy artykuł stanowi także propozycję dla potencjalnych czytelników do zapoznania się z kulturą francuską istniejącą na terenach, które tradycyjnie, z racji położenia geograficznego, związane są z historycznie niemieckojęzycznym kręgiem kulturowym.
    The main purpose of this article is to introduce the readers to the connections between Szczecin and France and to observe how the memory of French presence influences over the centuries in economic, institutional and cultural activities the formation of collective memory and identity of habitants, and their interest in French culture today. The article presents a synthetic outline of history of Szczecin and its connections to France, as well as presenting monuments of material, literary and artistic culture, which bear witness to the lasting connections of our region with France. This article is also a proposal for potential readers to get acquainted with French culture existing in the area, which traditionally, due to its geographical location, is historically connected with the German-speaking cultural circle.
