    Książka jest zbiorem sześciu studiów na temat teologicznego obrazu Maryi w świetle patrystycznej i scholastycznej wykładni Pisma Świętego. Przedwczesna śmierć autorki nie pozwoliła jej uczynić z nich spójnej całości. Jej współpracownicy, po naniesieniu drobnych poprawek redakcyjnych, postanowili przygotowany przez nią maszynopis opublikować (bez wstępu i zakończenia). Regina Willi wybrała z Biblii kilka perykop i motywów maryjnych (np. Mulier fortis, Mater Ecclesiae, Mater unitatis, Sedes sapientiae). Na ich przykładzie ukazuje jak Ojcowie Kościoła i pisarze średniowieczni je analizowali i interpretowali, aby odkryć ich sens alegoryczny. Pragnęli w ten sposób pogłębić rozumienie tajemnicy Maryi. 
    The book is a collection of six dissertations on the subject of theological image of Mary from patristic and scholastic perspective of the Scripture. Premature death of the author did not allow for the publication to form a coherent whole. Her coworkers, having introduced some minor editorial corrections, decided to publish her typescript (without an introduction or a conclusion). Regina Willi chose a few pericopes and Marian motifs from the Scripture (e.g. Mulier fortis, Mater Ecclesiae, Mater unitatis, Sedes sapientiae). Basing on these examples she shows how the Fathers of the Church and medieval writers analyzed and interpreted them in order to discover their allegorical meaning. They desired to deepen their understanding of the mystery of Mary.

    У раду се аналитичким методом указује на домете и импликације Павловићевог проучавања српске усмене и средњовековне књижевности. Притом, текст настоји да овај сегмент његове есејистике представи и у контексту ширег Павловићевог есејистичког, али и песничког опуса, истичући њихово плодно и разноврсно кореспондирање. Његови есеји у функцији су смисаоног и вредносног осветљавања наших најстаријих књижевних слојева, чиме се до краја уобличава представа о књижевно-историјском распону српске поезије и искуство јединственог духовног континуитета. Павловићеви Огледи о народној и старој српској поезији представљају пример како ширина интересовања, импресиван интелект, ерудитна компетенција, отворен и откривалачки дух, али и незаобилазан уметнички сензибилитет и неретко поетска експресија, постају замајац нових читања и тумачења, сасвим сигурно драгоцених за будуће генерације читалаца и изучавалаца.
    Using the analytical method, the paper points to the extents and implications of Pavlović’s research of Serbian verbal folk and medieval literature. Along with this, the paper tries to present this segment of his essayistic work in the context of the wider Pavlović’s essayistic and poetic opus as well, emphasizing their prolific and versatile corresponding. His essays are in a function of thoughtful and evaluating reflections of our oldest literature strata, which eventually shapes up the image about literature and historical span of Serbian poetry and the experience of a unique spiritual continuity. Pavlović’s Essays on Folk and Old Serbian Poetry (orig. Ogledi o narodnoj i staroj srpskoj poeziji) represent an example of how broadness of interests, an impressive intelect, erudite competency, an open and explorative spirit, but also inevitable artistic sensibility and frequent poetic expression become a trigger for new readings and interpretations surely valuable for new generations of readers and researchers.

    The article contains acritical edition with Polish and English translations of the hermeneutic introduction into the medieval glossary of the biblical symbols Allegoriae in universam Sacram Scripturam by Pseudo-Garnier of Langres. A discussion on the assumed symbolic-allegorical interpretation of the Bible that emerge from the text preceded the critical edition and translations.
    Artykuł zawiera edycję krytyczną wraz z polskim i angielskim tłumaczeniem wstępu hermeneutycznego do średniowiecznego glosariusza symboli biblijnych Allegoriae in universam Sacram Scripturam Pseudo-Garniera z Langres. Edycja i tłumaczenia zostały poprzedzone omówieniem założeń symboliczno-alegorycznej interpretacji Biblii, jakie wyłaniają się z publikowanego tekstu.

    Cztery żywioły w średniowiecznej ikonografii sądu ostatecznego? Propozycja nowej interpretacji ikonograficznej dekoracji mozaikowej ze ściany zachodniej bazyliki na Torcello – część i Artykuł ma na celu przedstawienie problematyki skupionej wokół niektórych elementów wczesnośredniowiecznej ikonografii czterech żywiołów stanowiących integralną część sceny Sądu Ostatecznego. Wybrany problem został pokazany na bazie przedstawienia ze ściany zachodniej Bazyliki Wniebowzięcia Najświętszej Maryi Panny na wyspie Torcello (Włochy). Autorka stawia pytanie o możliwe występowanie i symboliczne znaczenie czterech żywiołów w wyżej wymienionej mozaice, porównując ją z innymi przedstawieniami Sądu Ostatecznego z tego samego i wcześniejszego okresu. Na podstawie przesłanek wynikających z gruntownej analizy ikonograficznej przedstawienia, dokonanej we wcześniejszych publikacjach oraz rozprawie doktorskiej, autorka proponuje nową hipotezę interpretacyjną zarysowaną przez obecność ikonografii czterech żywiołów jako symbolu pierwotnego aktu stworzenia w przedstawieniu Sądu Ostatecznego.
    The article aims to present the issues concentrated on early medieval iconography of the four elements being an integral part of the scene of the Last Judgment. The selected problem was shown basing on the representation from the western wall of the Basilica of the Assumption of the Mary on the island of Torcello (Italy). The author poses a question about the possible occurrence and symbolic significance of the four elements in the abovementioned mosaic, comparing it with other representations of the Last Judgment from the same and the earlier period. Basing on a thorough iconographic analysis of the representation present in her earlier publications and the doctoral dissertation, the author presents a new interpretation hypothesis outlined by the presence of the iconography of the four elements as a symbol of the original act of creation in the Last Judgment.

    The topic of the article is an analysis of the positions of today’s interpretations of the old Polish literature. Firstly, the position of the interpreter was examinated in the context of the methodological map of medieval, Renaisssance and Baroque studies in Poland. Secondly, it is about the chronological location of the interpreter, generally beyond the horizon of medieval and early modern authors’ expectations toward future readers, that was limited by the eschatological perspective (near the end of the world). The issues of empathic references and affective reactions have also been raised, which are considered here as a stimulating experience of “recognizing continuity” between the ancient and present epochs. At last, the article presents the justification for the interpretative practice that could be called “the poetology of insight” – in reference to the remarks by Roland Barthes and Hans Ulrich Gumbrecht.

    This paper focuses on Dante’s centrality in the Umberto Eco’s reflection about persistence over the centuries of the “way of thinking” defined “hermetic semiosis” by the author of The name of the rose, which has affected at considerable lenght many contemporary “reader-oriented” theories and practices. In fact Dante, by contravening the Thomist devaluation of the poetic genre, not only assigned a revealing and mystic-prophetical function to poetry, but also, at the same time, according to Eco, anticipated the “epistemological break” begun with florentine neoplatonism, namely “that mystic text trend which is still continuing today” (Eco 1985).

    The paper attempts to analyze the epistemological background (conceptual frameworks) to significant contemporary Polish verse theories, and to show their impact on the characterization of the oldest (medieval) Polish poetry. The author holds the opinion that Polish medieval verse is difficult to define, because there are only a few original sources available and we are far removed from the epoch in which they were created; thus this is a conceptual construct resulting not so much from the interpretation of the texts as from pre-interpretative research assumptions (open and hidden) that determine the cognitive judgments of the theoreticians.
