Opis:
With high-grade apatite resources exhausted and economic development, enhancing the apatite quality from calcium gangue such as dolomite has a great significance for production. However, it is difficult to separate apatite from dolomite effectively due to the similar surface properties. In this study, the N-carboxybutyl chitosan ($CBC$) was tested as a potential selective depressant to separate apatite from dolomite in the sodium oleate ($NaOL$). Flotation results of single mineral and artificially mixed mineral confirmed the selective depression effect of CBC. The depression mechanism of $CBC$ was investigated using wettability analysis, Fourier Transform Infrared ($FTIR$), and X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy ($XPS$) analyses. The results indicated that the $CBC$ adsorption quantity and intensity on the dolomite surface more than that on the apatite surface, which was due to $CBC$ absorbed on apatite surface by hydrogen bonding, while absorbed on dolomite surface mainly through chemical chelating between $Ca$ on the mineral surface and -COO- on the depressant. These adsorption differences led to the flotation separation of the two minerals.

Opis:
Under the recent background of ‘Green Shipping’ and rising fuel prices, it is very important to reduce the fuel consumption rate of ships, which is directly affected by the performance of the main engine. A reasonable maintenance schedule can optimise the performance of the main engine. However, a traditional maintenance schedule is based on the navigation distance and time, ignoring many other factors, such as a harsh working environments and frequently changing operating conditions, which will lead to faster performance degradation. In this study, a real-time evaluation method combing big data of ship energy efficiency with physics-based analysis is proposed to judge the degradation of main engine performance and assist in determining the maintenance schedule. Firstly, based on the developed ship energy efficiency big data platform, the distribution statistics and comparison of different operating states are carried out. Gaussian mixture model (GMM) and Density-Based Spatial Clustering of Applications with Noise (DBSCAN) are used to cluster the data and the high-density data areas are obtained as the analysis points. Then, the data of the analysis points are polynomial fitted, by the least square method, to obtain the propulsion characteristics curves, load characteristic curves, and speed characteristic curves, which can be used to observe the performance degradation of the main engine. The results show that this method can effectively monitor the degradation degree of the main engine performance, and is of great significance to fuel efficiency improvements and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reduction.

Landing on a moving ship particularly small size during bad weather is not a safe manoeuvre. Article provides an overview of existing solutions that improve safety during the landing manoeuvre of the helicopter to the ship and describes an innovative mechanism with can stabilize helicopter pad in four degrees of freedom. This solution is characterized in that the landing plate is movable and actuated simultaneously by two support plates and two levers. Plates and levers are driven by separate linear motors that move along the guides connected to the base. The main feature of the mechanism is that when the base is not stable, it can reduce the linear movement of the landing platform in the vertical and transverse direction and angular displacement around an axis perpendicular and parallel to the axis of the ship. A preferred feature of the mechanism is that in folded position it occupies relatively little space. In addition, advantageous attribute of the mechanism is its large working area, enabling the reduction of high amplitude vibration. The article contains a calculation of the kinematics for the proposed structure of the mechanism. It also includes speed drives waveforms, which are the result of simulations for the input parameters of the ship movement.

Helicopter pad located on the ship significantly increase the operational capabilities of military and civilian ships. During the storm, especially side tilts of the ship hinder or even prevent the safe use of the helicopter pad. It is proposed to apply the system placed between the deck of the ship and landing site plate, driven by three independent linear drives located under the deck. The task of the system will be preventing from transferring to Helicopter pad the tilt of the ship around the longitudinal axis and the displacement of the deck along the transverse and vertical axis within the limits of the work area. The mechanism consists of the three movable pillars with the plate on top, which is the movable helicopter pad platform. As the linear actuators, plates moving along a horizontal guide were used, powered by system of steel cables with three independent electric motors. In folded state the mechanism, take up appropriately little space in the deck area. For the assumed extreme amplitudes of the ship motion, minimum dimensions of the mechanism links that meets the requirement to work in one configuration and lack of collisions were determined. Kinematic relationships were created indicate which mechanical quantities should be measured in real time to determine the momentary drives speed. For the adopted assumptions simulation was performed, confirming the predicted behaviour of the system. Based on the dynamics equations of system, drives loads, their power and individual links and joints load were determined.

In this study, X-ray diffraction, thermogravimetric analysis and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) method were used to analyze the main characteristics of sweet potato starch, and to analyze the thermal degradation process of sweet potato starch. Specifically, X-ray diffraction to study its structure, thermogravimetric analysis to study the thermal degradation kinetics, and differential scanning calorimetry to study the thermogram of sweet potato starch. The thermal decomposition kinetics of sweet potato starch was examined within different heating rates in nitrogen atmosphere. Different models of kinetic analysis were used to calculate the activation energies using thermogravimetric data of the thermal degradation process. Activation energies obtained from Kissinger, Flynn-WallOzawa, and Šatava-Šesták models were 173.85, 174.87 and 174.34 kJ/mol, respectively. The values of activation energy indicated that the thermal degradation of the sweet potato starch was a single reaction mechanism or the combination of multi-reaction mechanisms. The differential scanning calorimetry analysis show that two decomposition stages were presented: the first at a low temperature involves the decomposition of long chain; and the second at a high temperature represents the scission of glucose ring. This information was helpful to design the processing process of many natural polymers. Thermogravimetric Fourier transform-infrared (TG–FTIR) analysis showed that the main pyrolysis products included water, methane, carbon dioxide, ammonia, and others.

Opis:
The process of atmosphere-pressure acid leaching of laterites has attracted considerable attention in the nickel industry in recent years. However, the leaching kinetics of laterite using hydrochloride acid has not yet been fully researched. In this paper, the mineral analysis of the ore was carried out, and the leaching mechanism of different minerals at different time was studied comprehensively. The kinetics analysis of the leaching process of nickel, cobalt and manganese showed that the kinetics model of diffusion controlling was suitable and could be described by the linear equation, 1-3(1-a)2/3+2(1-a)=k2t. Based on the linear equation and the Arrhenius equation, the values of activation energy of metal leaching can be deduced (11.56 kJ/mol for nickel, 11.26 kJ/mol for cobalt and 10.77 kJ/mol for manganese). Study of leaching mechanism shows that the order of these minerals dissolution is: goethite, lizardite, magnetite and hematite. Due to the original or product of silica, magnetite, hematite and talc, they can form the solid film which hinders the leaching of valuable metals. Thus, the diffusion controlling step is inner diffusion, namely solid film diffusion controlling.

Opis:
In this paper, a source separation approach based on the Blind Source Separation (BSS) is presented. In fact, the Independent Component Analysis (ICA), which is the main technique of BSS, consists in extracting different source signals from several observed mixtures. This inverse method is very useful in many fields such as telecommunication, signal processing and biomedicine. It is also very attractive for diagnosis of mechanical systems such as rotating machines. Generally, dynamic responses of a given mechanical system (displacements, accelerations and speeds) measured through sensors are used as inputs for the identification of internal defaults. In this study, the ICA concept is applied to the diagnosis of a one-stage gear mechanism in which two types of defects (the eccentricity error and the localized tooth defect)are introduced. The finite element method allows determination of the signals corresponding to the acceleration in some locations of the system, and those signals may be used also in the ICA algorithm. Hence, the vibratory signatures of each defect can be identified by the ICA concept. Thus, a good agreement is obtained by comparing the expected default signatures to those achieved by the developed inverse method.

Opis:
It is well-known that the longwall mining method (with roof caving) is widely used in underground mining extraction for bedded deposits (e.g. coal) due to its numerous advantages. Generally, this method is not commonly applied for ore deposits such as copper deposit. In Poland, the longwall mining method has been tested for thin copper deposits at the Polkowice-Sieroszowice copper mine (KGHM). Various failure modes were observed during longwall operation in the 5A/1 panel. This paper aims to examine these occurred failures. To do so, an analysis has been conducted using 3D numerical modelling to investigate the failure mode and mechanism. Based on the 3D numerical modelling results with extensive in situ measurements, causes of failure are determined and practical recommendations for further copper longwall operations are presented.

The paper presents numerical analysis of a single segment of a floating bridge built in the form of a metal cassette with a movable bottom. An internal elastic container - a pontoon filled with the air was fixed in the cassette [4]. It enables a fluent change of displacement of a single segment and of a floating ribbon assembled from segments. A multibody analysis of cooperation of the cassette in the process of filling the pontoon and opening the cassette was discussed. Numerical analysis of a single cassette presented in the paper constitutes a part of tests including stand tests. The single floating cassette has a typical shelled construction consists of a tight deck, a pneumatic chamber closed with a reinforced movable bottom and sets of fastenings together with a mechanism of bottom opening. Each cassette is equipped with a highly resistant elastic or semi-elastic cushion hereinafter called a pontoon. The movement of the bottom and the process of opening the cassette module with a pneumatic air cushion realized under an influence of pressure of the compressed air. As a result of uneven filling the individual chamber of the pontoon with the air or their uneven emptying in the process of closing the cassette, there can occur the asymmetry of displacements of the bottom resulted even in seizing of telescopic mechanisms. In the paper were considered the cases of symmetrical and asymmetrical movement of the bottom corresponding to symmetrical and unsymmetrical pull out of the telescopic mechanism modules. Dynamical analysis of movement of cooperating subsystems of the floating cassette was carried out with the use of MSC.Adams code [5, 8].

Wear resistance is one of the main indicators of the reliability of machine parts. The selection of wear-resistant material should consider the operational environment and specific types of abrasive material. The steel abrasive wear resistance depends not only on its hardness and microstructure but also on the abrasive material's properties, such as hardness and particle morphology. This work aimed to determine abrasion wear mechanisms of a set of steels, i.e., S235, S355, C45, AISI 304 and Hardox 500, abraded by different types of grit i.e. garnet, corundum and carborundum. The abrasion tests were conducted using T-07 tribometer (rubber wheel method). Wear traces were examined with a scanning electron microscope (SEM), and a contact profilometer. SEM analysis revealed that apart from Hardox 500, ploughing and microfatigue were the dominant wear mechanisms. Microcutting was the main wear mechanism for Hardox 500 tested with carborundum (SiC). The highest mass loss was usually obtained for carborundum. The lowest wear resistance in garnet and carborundum was obtained for the S235JR and S235J2 steels and Hardox 500 tested with corundum. The effect of steel microstructure on the wear mechanism has been confirmed. AISI 304 austenitic steel abraded by carborundum grit, presented outstanding roughness parameters: Ra, Rz, RSm, Rk, Rvk and Rpk than other steels tested with carborundum. Steel hardness affects the morphology of the wear trace reducing the Ra and Rz roughness parameters. The effect of abrasive hardness and grain morphology on abraded surfaces has been stated. Contrary to fine grains of the hardest carborundum, coarse garnet grains caused high roughness parameters (Rk, Rpk and Rvk) determined in wear trace.

Kinematic model of the human knee joint, considered as one-degree-of-freedom spatial parallel mechanism, is used to analyse the spatial displacement of the femur with respect to the tibia. The articular surfaces of femoral and tibia condyles are modelled, based on selected references, as spherical and planar surfaces. The condyles are contacted in two points and are guided by three ligaments modelled as binary links with constant lengths. In particular, the mechanism position problem is solved by using the vector method. The obtained kinematic characteristics are adequate to the experimental results presented in the literature. Additionally, the screw displacements of relative motion in the knee joint model are determined.
