Opis:
Item Response Theory (IRT) is an extension of the Classical Test Theory (CCT) and focuses on how specific test items function in assessing a construct. They are widely known in psychology, medicine, and marketing, as well as in social sciences. An item response model specifies a relationship between the observable examinee test performance and the unobservable traits or abilities assumed to underlie performance on the test. Within the broad framework of item response theory, many models can be operationalized because of the large number of choices available for the mathematical form of the item characteristic curves. In this paper we introduce several types of IRT models such as: the Rasch, and the Birnbaum model. We present the main assumptions for IRT analysis, estimation method, properties, and model selection methods. In this paper we present the application of IRT analysis for binary data with the use of the ltm package in R.

Opis:
Item response theory (IRT) is widely used in educational and psychological research to model how participants respond to test items in isolation and in bundles. Item response theory has replaced classical measurement theory as a framework for test development, scale constructions, scree reporting and test evaluation. The most popular of the item response models for multiple choice tests are the one-parameter (i. e. the Rasch model) and threeparameter models. This is the general framework for specifying the functional relationship between a respondent’s underlying latent trait level, commonly known as ability in educational testing, or the factor score in the factor analysis tradition and an item level stimulus. In this paper, arguments are offered for continuing research and applying multidimensional IRT models. The position is also taken that multi-parameter IRT models have potentially important roles to play in the advancement of measurement theory about which models to use should depend on model fit to the test data. All calculations are conducted in R available from CRAN which is a widely-used and well-known environment for statistical computing and graphics.

A recent IEEE Access Paper by Gunn, Allison and Abbott (GAA) proposed a new transient attack against the Kirchhoff-law-Johnson-noise (KLJN) secure key exchange system. The attack is valid, but it is easy to build a defense for the KLJN system. Here we note that GAA’s paper contains several invalid statements regarding security measures and the continuity of functions in classical physics. These deficiencies are clarified in our present paper, wherein we also emphasize that a new version of the KLJN system is immune against all existing attacks, including the one by GAA.

Opis:
The new original methods of statistical information processing are used in astrometry and space exploration for many years. It was turned out that these methods have universal character and can be successfully applied in various spheres and it was showed by testing these methods, which were conducted by the department of mathematical modeling of IUEH for 15 years. After testing all these methods were combined in the new “Nonclassical theory of errors measurement” (NTEM) published in 2015. The objective of research: To acquaint the specialists in the field of statistical information mathematical processing and analysis with the objects and opportunities of NTEM and its fundamental regulations because knowledge and usage of which are the most important in our time. As the result significance of the NTEM procedures in the complex of methods that make up the data mining. Methods: The statistical methods which demonstrate adequacy of the methods used by us in practice of observation are considered in the “Nonclassical Theory of Errors Measurement”. Conclusion: NTEM is the new, important and effective tool in the field of mining large amounts of statistical data, particularly in mathematical modeling, its diagnosis and processing of samples, the volume of which

Przedstawiono poprzedzającą niezbędną identyfikację i usunięcie składowych regularnie zmiennych z surowych danych pomiarowych. Podano wzory dla równoważnej, tzw. efektywnej liczby nieskorelowanych obserwacji ηeff, zależnej od funkcji autokorelacji ρk próbki. Umożliwia ona poprawne wyznaczenie niepewności pomiarów według dotychczasowej procedury GUM. Omówiono sposób oszacowania estymaty funkcji autokorelacji τk z danych pomiarowych. Rozważania zilustrowano przykładami liczbowymi.
Expanding of the application range of the present formalism of GUM to the case of regularly sampled mutually correlated observations is proposed. First, the obvious previous identification and cleaning of the raw sample data from regularly variable components is discussed briefly. The formulae for standard deviation and standard deviation of the mean are expressed with the use of the so-called effective number of observation ηeff. This quantity depends of real number of observation n and elements of the autocorrelation function ρk. The another parameter named effective degree of freedom νeff describes the dispersion of both estimators of standard deviation and can be used to calculate the expanded uncertainty. We also show how to adopt this formalism if only an estimate τk of the ACF derived from a sample is available. A novel method is introduced based on truncation of the τk function at the point of its first transit through zero (FTZ). This method can be applied to non-negative ACFs which occurs most often in practice. Considerations are illustrated by the numerical example.

The aim of the article is to show the positive significance of family theories in examining family relations and family functioning and to present the most significant models in the area. Discussing the benefits resulting from using theoretical models in family researches it has been noted that they allow to identify factors essential to understand family relations and family functioning, they provide the supposed causal relationships between variables, they also equip researchers with the common academic language and allow for comparing results of different researches. They are also the basis of working out reliable and accurate research tools which can be used in clinical jobs and counselling. Family theories have been discussed as being grouped according to Skelton and cooperators (2012) into three main categories: family as a system, family stress and resilience and families in time and space.

Opis:
The aim of this paper is to formulate a new proposal for perception measurement on a linguistic scale coded with fuzzy numbers. Additionally, an attempt is made to show the assessment process of the adequacy of a linguistic scale. The basis for the proposal is the discussion of issues related to the ambiguity of the results of measurements made by means of a subjective type of measurement scales. The proposed assessment technique is relevant when the results of the measurement based on a linguistic scale are coded with numerical equivalents in the form of e.g. unconventional fuzzy numbers. The issue the subjective perception of the products' quality illustrates the objectivity level of measurement results. Subjective perception is measured with a specially designed IT tool allowing the respondent to determine all the characteristics of the resulting fuzzy numbers. The scale adequacy assessment tool is based on the Item Response Theory, and particulary so on the model devised by Georg Rasch. The measurement of socio-economic phenomena, including material and subjective wellbeing of households, the quality of households' durable goods, and the assessment of the quality of goods available on the market requires special tools. It seems that one of the most useful and powerful tools for the measurement of socio-economic phenomena is a linguistic scale. The problematic issue in the analysis presented in the paper is coding verbal terms with their numerical equivalents.

The article is the presentation of the work on the upgrading of the test to measure levels of identity in adulthood. The test is based on the theory of identity statuses James Marcia who describes four statuses: identity diffusion, foreclosures, moratorium and achievement. Basic calculations were made with a view to standardization and normalization of questionnaire. This test was designed to research of the teachers' identity in early adulthood. It was also used in studies of young adults with schizophrenia. Currently, studies are ongoing identity of adults from families with different emotional relationships that allow for verification of the calculations.

Anyone who seeks the service of psychology (which translates to “science of the mind”) faces a persisting dilemma. One has to choose between two psychologies: “Subjective”, also called “qualitative”, psychologists believe that the focus on studying the internal structure of the human mind will provide important insights needed in therapy and education. Yet the human mind, they argue, can be studied only with subjective methods like clinical interview, not with standardized tests. In contrast, “objective” or “quantitative”, psychologists argue that if psychology wants to be recognized as a science, it must enlist only objective methods of measurement. Yet this excludes, they argue, the study of internal psychological factors of the human mind. While the subjective approach is based on psychological assumptions regarding the nature of the target measurement object, the objective approach is based on purely statis-tical theories. Must we really have to abandon psychological objects like intellectual and moral capaci-ties if we want our measurement to be objective? In this paper I show that both approaches are based on questionable theories about the relationship between visible behavior on the one side and psychological objects on the other. I also show that we can measure psychological traits objectively and validly if we use an experimental approach. Experimental Question-naires can be used in all fields of psychology in which testable theories about the nature of its object have been developed. We have successfully used this new approach, for example, for the construction and validation of the Moral Competence Test (MCT).

Opis:
Researchers who need valid and objective data for evaluating their theories or the efficacy of educational methods and programs have to choose between two equally undesirable alternatives: either they can use “objective” methods which have a questionable validity, or they can turn to “subjective” assessment methods with better validity. In other words, while subjective approaches to the study of human traits may be, or really are, valid, they lack objectivity, that is, they may be biased toward the researcher’s theory. On the other hand, objective approaches to the study of psychological traits often lack psychological underpinning but are solely designed to fit a certain statistical model. Thus, we cannot know what these instruments really measure. Here I present a new approach to the study of human traits, which claims to be objective as well as psychologically valid, namely the concept Experimental Questionnaire (EQ). An EQ lets us make traits visible without relying on dubious statistical assumptions. Thus, it makes it possible for the researcher to test the psychological theory underlying its designs. The EQ methodology is not only an idea, but it has been applied for constructing the Moral Competence Test (MCT) and for testing the assumptions about the nature of moral competence which were used to design it. So far, all the studies have clearly confirmed their validity. This makes the MCT suitable for testing hypotheses regarding the relevance and teachability of moral competence, and, therefore, also for evaluating the efficacy and efficiency of educational methods of fostering this competence. Experimentally designed questionnaires can also be used in other fields of educational and psychological research in which testable theories about the nature of its objects have been developed.

We outline the management performance measures (MPMs)' boundaries based on the upcoming introduction of MPM's definition to International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS). The literature investigates business performance measures concentrating on managers' needs, while IFRS aims to provide financial information to external users who provide resources to the entity. This indicates a gap between how performance metrics have been investigated so far and how IFRS will adopt them. We used analysis of the exposure draft of the planned standard together with working materials developed in the consultation process. Further, a case study is presented. Results show that the scope of MPM to be introduced to IFRS is limited compared to the broad spectrum of performance measures presented in the literature. We contribute by showing the avenues for future performance measures research using signalling and agency theory and by indicating the limited scope of MPMs and thus bound prospects for using them for a full assessment of the entity‘s performance.

Opis:
Digital image correlation is a well-known optical measurement method for full-field deformation and strain measurements. The quality of speckle images used in digital image correlation calculation can directly affect the measurement accuracy of digital image correlation. In most practical measurement circumstances, a uniform illumination environment is usually required to illuminate the detected object in order to capture speckle images upon different deformed states with uniform background intensity. However, the tested object becomes so large that the adopted light source cannot cover all the interested area with uniform illumination, and the speckle images acquired by CCD camera may have non-uniform background intensity distributions. In this paper, the influence of non-uniform illumination is first analyzed in detail by means of a comparison of experimental results of digital image correlation using speckle patterns with both uniform and non-uniform intensity distributions. Then, a new correctional method based on the combination of the basic retinex theory and the illumination formulae of a point light source is proposed. Finally, a real experiment with non-uniform illumination is implemented to verify the effectiveness of this method.
