The author, facing the crisis of western civilization, presents the concept of proper life based on scientific research, philosofical reflection, intuitive insights of writers and religious tradition.

    Współcześnie obserwuje się narastanie zjawiska nihilizmu. Towarzyszy temu poczucie pustki i bezsensu życia. Nadzieja chrześcijańska rodzi inicjatywy na rzecz dobra i integralnego rozwoju człowieka.
    Nowadays the phenomenon of defeatism and nihilism is increasing. It is accompanied by a feeling of emptiness and nonsense of life. Catholic theology, presenting hope as a supernatural virtue, presents it from a broad eschatological perspective. Supernatural hope protects a person from making absolute the difficulties that exist in life. Thus, it inspires courage to live, defends against doubts and resignation, and points to the paschal perspective. Christian hope - the source of theological optimism - transcends historical and political argumentation that can lead to pessimism, defeatism, nihilism, and catastrophism. It shows not only the vision of how the world lasts but also its fulfilment. A man of faith believes in the absolute future of mankind in the Kingdom of God and sees in the current history of the world a plan of development up to Parousia - complete renewal. Christian hope gives rise to initiatives for the good and integral development of man.

    Opis:
    Diverse areas of studies are concerned with the answer to the inquiry on the meaning of human existence. Also theology, referring to the Divine Revelation, points out to the meaning of existence, revealed by God. Also Benedict XVI refers to this issue in his apostolic exhortation Verbum Domini – On the Word of God in the life and mission of the Church. Indicating the Eternal Word, that entered the time and was pronounced in human way, at the same time the Holy Father convinces us, that for the person receiving this Word in faith, it can be the source of the meaning of existence. The Divine Revelation becomes the source of the meaning of human life thanks to its rationality, through responses it provides for the deepest human inquiries and desires, and thanks to the perspective of fullness of life transcending the limits of temporality. The meaning of human existence revealed in the Word of God, is properly understood and most fully accessible in the Church. The community of God's people is called to reveal the Eternal Word faithfully as reality, which can be lived, and thanks to which one can live.

    The autopsy of mothers raising adult children with profound intellectual disability is a documentation of maternity that varies from the commonly accepted role model of the mother and the role of the woman. Narrative conversations show that this group of women is struggling with many difficult experiences and emotions related to their own existence. The purpose of this article is the analysis of the existential experiences of the examined mothers in the level of reflection and the questions “why me?”, the meaning of life and the future. An attempt will also be made to find determinants conditioning them.

    Rev. Franciszek Sawicki (1877-1952), undoubtedly the most prominent member among the Pelplin scholars, chose as a one of the topics of his writings the problem of the suffering, its meaning and importance for the human existence. Sawicki, as he strives to classify various instances of the evil and its manifestations, puts a question about what might be the meaning of the suffering in the context of the faith. The mundane experience of happiness binds us with this world. The suffering and death, on the other hand, directs the human being towards the supreme good and the true end of our lives which is God himself. As an outcome of the enquiry made by this sage of Pelplin we obtain a very interesting interpretation of the mystery of suffering which has an existentially optimistic dimension.

    In framing a question about meaning of man, respectively human history, Patočka uses a historical-philosophical aspect as well as a phenomenological aspect. By tracking the genesis of the concept of eternity from Kant to the 20th century he concludes, that human meaning cannot be derived from moral postulates which exceed finitness of man. By deleting the concept of eternity Patočka concludes, that the question of meaning cannot be bound by human targets, because filled purpose is already objectified, existing, without the horizon of your being and in this its takes the form of a relative meaning. The meaning, according to Patočka is phenomenologically bound to being, which is non-objective, implying that the meaning is problematic, unreal, yet constantly perpetuated. This attitude has served Patočka to the criticism of nihilism and in it especially to the unacceptability of active nihilism, the concept which Nietzsche introduced into the philosophy. Patočka transferred a critique of Nietzsche´s understanding of realized meaning in terms of superman by rejection of his idea of will to power (he understood it in the definition of gross and ruthless animal life, namely in the form of the highest being) and the doubtful idea of eternal return. Patočka with his attitude to Nietzsche only echoed the opinion presented by Heidegger, which called Nietzsche the consummator of modern subjectivity.In terms of the present (Kouba) it shows, that phenomenology will profit more if it converts both Nietzsche´s thoughts to its own area and use them in the analysis of situational meaning that is constantly (by contradiction) bound to the horizon of possibility of the situation without a sense – that is in meaningful situation suppressed, not realized, but its validity and consistency with the horizon of meaning does not lose. In this view, it appears that Nietzsche´s understanding of the meaning is also problematic, but this problematic natureis not bound to absolute meaning.

    We are now more often than ever contemplating existential problems. In this text I present some reflections related to the issue in the title. I do it in two steps. First, I consider from which perspective one can reasonably and effectively adjudicate about the meaning of an individual's life. Next, I illustrate this problem by presenting several concepts that refer to the mythological fate of Sisyphus. I precede the text with an introduction and close with an ending.

    Artykuł jest próbą podjęcia fenomenologicznej refleksji nad nadzieją. Na drodze tego badania z jednej strony przeciwstawiam się popularnej praktyce „teologizowania” nadziei, tj. traktowania jej jako cnoty teologalnej, z drugiej – naukowym usiłowaniom jej naturalizowania. W rezultacie odkrywam nadzieję jako „nadzieję egzystencjalną”, która przedstawia się jako fundamentalny sposób bycia egzystencji.
    The article is an attempt at phenomenological reflection on hope. On the way of this study, on the one hand, I oppose the popular practice of "theologizing" of hope, i.e. treating it as a theological virtue, on the other - the scientific attempts to naturalize it. As a result, I discover hope as "existential hope" which presents itself as a fundamental „way of being” of existence.

    The author, following Heidegger’s analysis of Dasein way, starts with a description of common understanding of a project of existence. Then he passes on to its ontological understanding. Both common and Heidegger’s way of understanding treat these issues in a different way. Despite significant differences, both ways of understanding the existence project – as a suggested answer to “how to live” question claiming to be the right ones – result from the same paradigm of viewing a human-being, mostly as somebody apart, who is distinguishable by possessing a self-imposed task, which could be “discovered” and put into reality only by an entity alone – and be oneself. Such a human, as a unique in his existence, is his own biggest problem and a task (a project) for all life.

    Człowiek w logoterapii Viktora E. Frankla charakteryzuje się trzema podstawowymi sposobami bycia: fizycznym, psychicznym, duchowym. Duchowy sposób bycia jest sferą autonomiczną, w której jesteśmy zdolni do pozyskania sensu przez przeżycie i robienie czegoś wartościowego oraz dzięki któremu możemy nabrać dystansu i odnieść się do chorobowych symptomów zaburzonej psychiki. Wypełnienie się sensem przez robienie czegoś wartościowego jest możliwe dzięki trzem zdolnościom, zakorzenionym w strukturzebycia ludzkiego: zdolności do intencjonalnego kierowania się poza siebie do świata zewnętrznego, zdolności transcendowania siebie ze względu na doświadczenie czegoś wartościowego i zdolności do dystansowania się od siebie, dzięki której w ogóle możemydoświadczyć czegoś takiego, jak to, że jesteśmy także duchowymi osobami i objawić się w swoim człowieczeństwie. W artykule ukazano antropologiczne podstawy logoterapii Frankla, akcentując aspekt ludzkiej wolności.
    The specific mode of being of the human being is characterized by the coincidence of three different types of being. Hence, the human being is physical (corporeal), psychic and noetic (spiritual) at the same time. All three dimensions of human existence are interwoven and have a special relationship to each other. While the physical and psychological dimensions are closely related, man can rise above his psychophysics by virtue of his spiritual dimension. With logotherapy, Viktor E. Frankl devised an approach that aims in a special way at establishing a prominent position for the spiritual dimension. The spiritual dimension enables people to distance themselves from themselves (self-distancing) and creates the possibility to step out of themselves (self-transcendence)and concentrate on things in the outside world. Through these two possibilities, man can make his life meaningful in the world and get rid of pathological symptoms of mental disorders. The article shows the anthropological basis of Frankl’s logotherapy, emphasizing the aspect of human freedom.
