This study aims to explore the role of knowledge of content and students of a prospective mathematics teacher in designing learning that integrates mathematical literacy into mathematics teaching and learning. This research was a case study with a single-case design. A participant selected from 75 prospective mathematics teachers through purposive sampling techniques was assigned to compile two sets of learning tools to teach mathematical literacy through learning the concepts of relationships and functions. The data were collected through in-depth semi-structured interviews based on her experiences of designing the learning tools. Then, the data were analyzed to reveal the role of Knowledge of Content and Students (KCS) in designing the learning. The results of the analysis show that KCS has a considerable role in the prospective mathematics teacher in designing learning. The researcher found that knowledge of students’ mastery of the prerequisite materials affected the depth of the material; knowledge about students’ misconceptions, errors, or difficulties influence teaching strategy decision and organizing learning material, and knowledge of students’ interests, motivation influences the selection of problem contexts and strategies to encourage students’ active participation in the class.

In this paper, we give the proposition of didactic discussion on the existence of solutions of some equations containing expressions with absolute value. We are interested in the possibility of applying the method of conceptual problem solving. Under this term we understand such a procedure, in which the solver is not limited to the automatic application of the definition of the absolute value, but he can reject some cases based on his mathematical knowledge. To do this, one must make use from various features of this concept - not only from its definition.

In the research, a quasi-experimental model was applied and the experimental group received the process approach to learning and teaching mathematics, which builds on the cognitive-constructivist findings of educational profession about learning and teaching mathematics. In the control group, the transmission approach prevailed. In the research, the question was answered of what impact the implementation of the process approach to learning and teaching mathematics has on the learner’s knowledge, which can be tested and assessed. Students in the experimental group (EG) performed significantly better in basic and conceptual knowledge, in solving simple mathematical problems, and in complex knowledge than those in the control group. Results of the research have also shown that there are statistically significant correlations between individual areas of mathematical knowledge. The correlations between the areas of knowledge are from medium high to high, indicating that conceptual knowledge correlates significantly with solving simple mathematical problems and with complex knowledge.

To create an astronomical software, one should use the most effective method to produce the quickest hardware calculation. However, the not so effective object oriented paradigm seems to have bigger influence on the astronomical domain. We discuss the status quo of its methodology. The traditional, Turing computation model does not have so distinct influence on knowledge creation because it is hardware-oriented. An object oriented programming language is more influential on discovery, because it works directly in the scientific domain.

The article presents a study which involved the selection of an authority figure by students of the last grades of secondary schools, carried out in May 2022. The main goal was to investigate the relationship between the selection of an authority figure and the achievement of learning outcomes in mathematics at the 4th level of the Polish Qualifications Framework. The literature was reviewed with regard to students’ school achievements and authority. A comparative analysis of the choice of authority in the context of school assessment and the result of an online mock exam in mathematics was carried out. The goal was achieved by presenting research problems concerning the choice of authority and its relationship with the achievement of learning outcomes in mathematics. Final conclusions were then formulated.

The paper, drawing on ancient ideals of knowledge: pure versus practical, argues that natural sciences cannot provide a real worldview by themselves. This is because they have features such as ambiguity of the scientific description of reality, meaninglessness of mathematical models employed, and non-referential character of many important scientific notions. This would leave the human desire to understand the world unfulfilled, if other sources of knowledge are excluded. But if they are allowed, then a proper way of reconciling independent or even seemingly divergent views has to be found. Among complementary sources of a worldview, many accept religion, or rather the rational reconstruction of religious beliefs – theology. This paper suggests that some important concepts found in the contemporary philosophy of science – among them underdetermination and incommensurability – point to ways which may allow for the provision of methodologically acceptable constructs, based on the two pillars – science and theology; constructs, which could go beyond vague metaphors towards a consistent worldview.

In this paper we present a new probability function G that generalizes the classical probability function. A mass function is an assignment of basic probability to some context (events, propositions). It represents the strength of support for some contexts in a domain. A context is a subset of the basic elements of interest in a domain - the frame of discernment. It is a medium to carry the "probabilistic" knowledge about a domain. The G function is defined in terms of a mass function under various contexts. G is shown to be a probability function satisfying the axioms of probability. Therefore G has all the properties attributed to a probability function. If the mass function is obtained from probability function by normalization, then G is shown to be a linear function of probability distribution and a linear function of probability. With this relationship we can estimate probability distribution from probabilistic knowledge carried in some contexts without any model assumption.
