    Among researchers who use methods and tools of mathematical sciences in the description of economic phenomena and processes, Józef Maria Hoene-Wroński occupies a prominent place. His works on social economy in which he attempts to mathematically define relations holding between elements of economic processes place him among the forerunners of mathematical economics in Poland. Relying on assumptions of absolute philosophy and scientific messianism, he presents an interesting approach towards the aim and principles of social economy. He formulates an original theory of value and develops a novel, dynamic economic system in which he highlights the possibilities that mathematical methods and tools bring.

    Opis:
    Background: Happiness and its determinants have been the subject of scientifi c inquiries as early as in the works of Aristotle. It has appeared in many fi elds of science. For example, in economics, Frank Knight indicated happiness as one of the three main factors of business success (1921). Nowadays, positive psychology also deals with success. Happiness is therefore an important success factor, not only in business, but also in the real life, career, and development of every human being (Brickman et al. 2016; Seligman 2005). Aim: The main research problem, as a case study, was to identify a defi nition of happiness, which would provide the opportunity to formulate a mathematical model, thus making it possible to measure levels of happiness. Materials and methods: Literature reviews on the defi nition of happiness were conducted to achieve the main aim. They resulted in identifying the proposals of Stanisław Lem, who in his futuristic works not only off era definition of happiness but also describes a unit of its measurement and provides a recipe for it. This became the basis for designing a computer simulation of the defi nition of happiness as a kind of human experience. Results: A newly designed mathematical model was formulated that describes levels of happiness from a quantitative point of view, including a unit of its measurement. Conclusion: The designed mathematical model is complete and is the fi rst example of the implementation of the defi nition of happiness described in literature. It is also the first step in the mathematical approach to happiness becoming the most important factor of human work, development, and success.
    Szczęście i jego uwarunkowania są przedmiotem badań naukowych już od czasów Arystotelesa. Temat jest podejmowany z różnym powodzeniem w wielu dziedzinach nauki. Głównym problemem badawczym jest w niniejszym studium określenie defi nicji szczęścia, która dałaby możliwość sformułowania modelu matematycznego, umożliwiając w ten sposób zmierzenie poziomu szczęścia. W tym celu dokonano przeglądu literatury dotyczącej definicji szczęścia. Jednak w propozycji Stanisława Lema zidentyfi kowano sformułowanie defi nicyjne pozwalające na osiągnięcie zamierzonego celu. Stanisław Lem w swoich futurystycznych pracach nie tylko podał precyzyjną defi nicję szczęścia, ale także zaproponował stosowną jednostkę jej pomiaru. Na tej podstawie został sformułowany model matematyczny, który opisuje poziomy szczęścia z ilościowego punktu widzenia, z zastosowaniem jednostki jego miary włącznie.

Matematyczna gospodarka to jest zestaw metod matematycznych, pozwalających przedstawić teorie i przeanalizować problemy w gospodarce. To zaprzecza, że matematyka nie pozwala ekonomii sformować znaczące, testowane propozycje. Mowa matematyki pozwala ekonomistom konkretyzować, pozytywne wymogi o spornych czy dokładnych tematach, które były by niemożliwe bez matematyki. Dużo co teorii z ekonomicznej jest teraz obecne w terminach matematycznych modeli ekonomicznych.

    Artykuł jest podzielony na trzy części traktujące: o (1) miejscu nauk ekonomicznych wśród nauk w ogóle, (2) poglądach wybranych ekonomistów polskich na matematyzację ekonomii, (3) zmatematyzowanym postępowaniu naukowym w ekonomii dzisiaj, o odstępstwach od tego postępowania i potencjalnych konsekwencjach tych odstępstw. Po dwóch częściach o charakterze przeglądowym, w trzeciej podany jest bardzo ogólny schemat matematycznego podejścia do problemów ekonomicznych i odstępstwa od tego schematu sprowadzające się do dwóch grup problemów: matematyzacji problemów ekonomicznych, które tego nie wymagają; przejmowania przez ekonomię schematów postępowania właściwego innym naukom, w tym biernego stosowania istniejących algorytmów i programów komputerowych. Wartykule omówiono też wybrane konsekwencje tych odstępstw dla wyników naukowych.
    The paper is divided into three parts devoted to the following: the place of economics among the sciences; the views of selected Polish economists on the formalization (mathematization) of economics; and the formal (mathematical) scientific procedures used in economics today along with departures from these procedure and the potential consequences of such departures. After the first two parts of the paper, characterized as reviews, the third presents a very general scheme of the mathematical approach to economic problems as well as departures from this scheme. The problems of departures can be divided into two groups: the first being the mathematization of problems that do not need such an approach, the passive assumption of schemes appropriate for other sciences, the passive usage of various algorithms and the various computer programs used. Secondly, the paper discusses the potential consequences of such departures on the results of scientific research.

    Goal – construction of models that describe the social, environmental, and economic sustainability of rural areas in the context of the development of agritourism, which would make it possible to determine the leading factors for their sustainable development. Research methodology – the research applied the procedures of goal setting, measurement, establishing criteria, forming and choosing alternatives, algorithms, methods of PLS‑PM modeling, and methods of qualitative modeling. Score/results – a systematic solution to the numerous environmental, social, and economic problems of the development of agritourism cluster is not achievable without appropriate economic and mathematical models and tools for their support, which would make it possible to accurately predict the main indicators of the sustainable development of agritourism, identify the main factors of sustainable development, determine the degree of the effectiveness of certain management decisions. Originality/value – based on the applied software products developed in this way, support systems for making complex management decisions can be formed that make it possible to identify all potential scenarios for the development of any complex systems and transitions between them, as well as provide a predictive function for evaluating key blocks. In the future, the proposed toolkit can be used to model and optimize the sustainable development of specific tourism investment projects in rural regions, as well as to select investment areas at the regional agritourism cluster level.

    Metody matematyczne są szeroko stosowane w rolnictwie i ekonomice rolnictwa. W artykule przedstawiono wybrane metody badawcze. Powszechnie stosuje się metody opisu statystycznego. Do ważnych metod, przydatnych do analiz rynkowych należy metoda bilansowa. Do klasycznych metod o charakterze planistycznym należy metoda programowania liniowego. Duże znaczenie ma metoda oparta na funkcji produkcji rolniczej. Metody korelacyjne są szczególnie przydatne w doświadczalnictwie rolniczym i badaniach naukowych. Metody statystyczne oceny ryzyka są wykorzystywane w ubezpieczeniach rolniczych. Wykorzystanie metod matematycznych ogranicza niski poziom wiedzy na ich temat.
    Mathematical methods are widely applied to agricultural economics. The paper presents chosen research methods in that field. Ones commonly applied are of statistical description. The balance method is among more important methods useful for making market analysis. And the linear planning is one of the classic planning. In agriculture the method based on a function of agricultural production is very important. In addition, correlation is particularly appropriate in the agricultural experiments and researches. Statistical risk evaluation is applied to agricultural insurance. However, the application of mathematical methods is constrained by insufficient knowledge of them.
