    Opis:
    The article presents an application of queuing theory (mass service) to describe transportation process. It presents the essential concepts of the queuing theory. The process of moving a load unit through the logistics centre was presented. To illustrate the issues an example of five-level, two-input queuing networks was examined.
    W artykule przedstawiono zastosowanie teorii kolejek (masowej obsługi) do opisu procesu transportowego. W artykule zaprezentowano najistotniejsze pojęcia dotyczące teorii kolejek. Przedstawiono proces przemieszczania jednostki ładunkowej w centrum logistycznym. Dla zilustrowania zagadnienia przeanalizowano przykład dwuwejściowej, pięciostopniowej sieci kolejkowej.

    This article focuses on the application of the queueing theory for the analysis of transport processes with regard to rail traffic. Selected aspects of queueing theory application for the analysis and rail traffic flow assessment are presented. A literature review regarding process modelling in rail transport using mass service theory models was performed. In order to study rail traffic flow, the application Java Modelling Tools- JSIM graph was used. The train movement process was analysed with regard to the traffic flow. The study was conducted on the basis of selected stretches of railway lines, numbers 2 (central long-distance in Warsaw) and 448 (central suburban in Warsaw).

    Miarą jakości i wiarygodności harmonogramów budowlanych jest studium ich wykonalności. W przebiegu realizacji przedsięwzięć budowlanych występuje szereg czynników zewnętrznych, generujących ich opóźnienia czasowe i odchylenia kosztowe. Optymalizacja przebiegu procesów budowlanych, zarówno w aspekcie czasu ich trwania jak też ponoszonych kosztów w wielu przypadkach dotyczy zwiększenia stopnia harmonizacji maszyn budowlanych, tworzących zestawy o różnych strukturach. W artykule podjęto próbę oceny stopnia wykorzystania wydajności zestawu maszyn budowlanych do robót betoniarskich przy użyciu teorii masowej obsługi. Wykorzystano w tym celu badania empiryczne autorów, przeprowadzone w 2011 roku na terenie Cementowni Górażdże (Heidelberg Group) podczas procesu betonowania płyty fundamentowej magazynu paliw zastępczych.
    The measure of the quality and reliability of construction schedules is a feasibility study. There are a number of external factors in the course of the implementation of construction projects, generating their time delays and cost deviations. Optimization of the course of construction processes, both in terms of their duration as well as the costs incurred, in many cases it concerns the increase of the degree of harmonization of construction machines, forming sets of various structures. The article attempts to assess the degree of use of the performance of a set of construction machines for concrete works using the theory of mass service. For this purpose, the authors used empirical research carried out in 2011 at the Górażdże Cement Plant (Heidelberg Group) during the process of concreting the foundation slab of the substitute fuels warehouse.

    Opis:
    Background: The maritime port terminals, handling cargo and servicing maritime and land means of transport with variable intensity over time, operate as mass service systems where the process of notifying and fulfilling needs usually occur at random. The main research problem was to determine the interdependence between the mechanism of reporting and meeting the demand for terminal services and its effectiveness measured in terms of operational efficiency and profitability. Methods: The aim of research involves evaluating the terminal operational mechanism and evaluating it under operational categories, that is, operational stability and efficiency, and economic ones, i.e., effectiveness with respect to costs and revenue. To achieve the aim of research, the theory of mass service was applied, with the use of queuing theory as well as case study. The research was conducted in an example of bulk handling terminal, i.e. HES Gdynia Bulk Terminal. Results: In the article, the authors assumed that the bulk cargo handling terminal in Gdynia operates as a queueing model. Therefore, it was possible to analyse the operating mechanism of the selected port terminal as a logistics system and a link in the supply chain by characterising it in terms of technical and operational efficiency and economic and financial effectiveness. Conclusions: So far, such terminals have not the subject of this kind research, because researchers focused predominantly on seaports as composite multimodal transport nodes. The results of the conducted research confirm the previously formulated hypothesis, indicating that queueing theory can be used as an useful instrument to optimize the efficiency and effectiveness of bulk cargo terminals.

    Opis:
    Based on the analysis of the statistical characteristics of heterogeneous network traffic of "Quadruple Play" mobile subscribers, it is shown that it cannot be represented by Poisson or Erlang distributions. It is shown that for such similar traffic, the rate of growth of the required buffer volume increases as the Hurst parameter increases. A method of adaptive traffic formation using the control of the length of intervals of the intensity of the arrival of data packets has been developed. Congestion management is carried out by changing the frequency of the marker generator (GM) on the basis of the results of forecasting the required bandwidth of the system and the required buffer size. The shaper adapts to changes in the length and instantaneous intensity of packet input in real-time.
    Na podstawie analizy charakterystyk statystycznych heterogenicznego ruchu sieciowego abonentów telefonii komórkowej "Quadruple Play" wykazano, że nie może on być reprezentowany przez rozkłady Poissona lub Erlanga. Pokazano, że dla takiego podobnego ruchu tempo wzrostu wymaganej objętości bufora wzrasta wraz ze wzrostem parametru Hursta. Opracowano metodę adaptacyjnego kształtowania ruchu wykorzystującą sterowanie długością interwałów natężenia napływu pakietów danych. Zarządzanie ograniczeniami odbywa się poprzez zmianę częstotliwości generatora znaczników (GM) na podstawie wyników prognozowania wymaganej przepustowości systemu oraz wymaganej wielkości bufora. Shaper dostosowuje się do zmian długości i chwilowej intensywności wprowadzanych pakietów w czasie rzeczywistym.
