Opis:
The present paper deals with the study of a fundamental solution in transversely isotropic thermoelastic media with mass diffusion and voids. For this purpose, a two-dimensional general solution in transversely isotropic thermoelastic media with mass diffusion and voids is derived first. On the basis of the obtained general solution, the fundamental solution for a steady point heat source on the surface of a semi-infinite transversely isotropic thermoelastic material with mass diffusion and voids is derived by nine newly introduced harmonic functions. The components of displacement, stress, temperature distribution, mass concentration and voids are expressed in terms of elementary functions and are convenient to use. From the present investigation, some special cases of interest are also deduced and compared with the previous results obtained, which prove the correctness of the present result.

In this article, we examined the solution of a homogeneously intensified isothermal inclined infinite plate with constant temperature. The plate is elevated to Tw, and the species accumulation is enhanced at a consistent speed. Under appropriate boundary conditions, the non-dimensional guiding formulae are remedied using the Laplace transform procedure. The effect of velocity, temperature, and concentration on various factors, including thermal and mass Grashof numbers, Schmidt numbers, and duration, is discussed. The velocity increases proportionally to the thermal and mass Grashof numbers, but decreases as the inclined angle, Schmidt numbers and time increase.

An numerical study on an unsteady flow past an oscillating semi-infinite vertical plate with variable temperature and uniform mass diffusion under the influence of a first order chemical reaction has been carried out. The dimensionless governing equations are solved by an unconditionally stable and fast converging implicit finite difference scheme. The effects of velocity and temperature for different physical parameters such as the chemical reaction parameter, thermal Grashof number, mass Grashof number and time are analysed. It is observed that due to the presence of first order chemical reaction, the velocity increases during a generative reaction and decreases in a destructive reaction.

Thermal radiation effects on an unsteady free convective flow of a viscous incompressible flow of a past an exponentially accelerated infinite isothermal vertical plate with uniform mass diffusion in the presence magnetic field are considered. The fluid considered here is a gray, absorbing-emitting radiation but a non-scattering medium. The plate temperature is raised to Tw and the concentration level near the plate is also raised to Cʹw . An exact solution to the dimensionless governing equations is obtained by the Laplace transform method, when the plate is exponentially accelerated with a velocity u= u0 exp(aʹtʹ) in its own plane against gravitational field. The effects of velocity, temperature and concentration fields are studied for different physical parameters such as the magnetic field parameter, thermal radiation parameter, Schmidt number, thermal Grashof number, mass Grashof number and time. It is observed that the velocity increases with decreasing magnetic field parameter or radiation parameter. But the trend is just reversed with respect to a or t .

Opis:
A theoretical solution of flow past an exponentially accelerated vertical plate in the presence of Hall current and MHD relative to a rotating fluid with uniform temperature and mass diffusion is presented. The dimensionless equations are solved using the Laplace method. The axial and transverse velocity, temperature and concentration fields are studied for different parameters such as the Hall parameter (m), Hartmann number (M), Rotation parameter (Ω), Schmidt number, Prandtl number, thermal Grashof number (Gr) and mass Grashof number (Gc). It has been observed that the temperature of the plate decreases with increasing values of the Prandtl number and the concentration near the plate increases with decreasing values of Schmidt number. It is also observed that both axial and transverse velocities increase with decreasing values of the magnetic field parameter or rotation parameter, but the trend gets reversed with respect to the Hall parameter. The effects of parameters m, M, […], Gr and Gc on the axial and transverse velocity profiles are shown graphically.

Opis:
In this investigation, the analogy between thermal and mass diffusive effects of a free convective flow in a rectangular enclosure is emphasized. The upwind finite volume method is used to discretize the governing equations of the continuity, momentum, energy and mass transfer. The novelty in this exploration is to appropriately modify the well-known Semi-Implicit Method for Pressure-Linked Equations (SIMPLE) algorithm so that it suits to the present problem and thereby, the new flow variables such as the temperature and the concentration are computed. An empirical correlation for the average Sherwood number (Sh) that does not exist in literature is suggested in this work. The average Sherwood numbers for distinct fluids (gases and liquids) are calculated, and mass diffusion effects within the horizontal rectangle are analyzed. The average Nusselt numbers (Nu) are calculated for distinct fluids such as liquids (Pr ≫1), liquid metals (Pr≪1) and gases (Pr < 1) for different Rayleigh numbers in the range of 3x105 ≤ RaL ≤ 7x10 9 from relevant empirical correlations existing in the literature. Accordingly, the thermal diffusion effects within the horizontal rectangle are analyzed.

The calculation of column’s height plays an important role in packed columns precise design. This research is based on experimentally measurement of mass transfer coefficients in different heights of packed column to predict its height. The objective of presented work is to introduce a novel conceptual method to predict column height via new correlation for mass transfer coefficient. As the mass transfer coefficient is decreased with increase of column height, the HTU’s are not constant figures along the column so this new approach is called increasing HTU’s. The results of the proposed idea were compared with other correlations and the conventional method i.e. constant HTU’s. Since the results are in very good agreement with experimental data comparing to conventional method, it seems this approach can be a turning point in design of all differential columns like packed columns. Making use of this method is suggested for design of differential columns.

Opis:
An approach for studying stochastical diffusion flows of admixture particles in bodies of multiphase randomly nonhomogeneous structures is proposed, according to which initialboundary value problems of diffusion are formulated for flow functions and methods of solution construction are adapted for the formulated problems. By this approach the admixture diffusion flow is investigated in a two-phase multilayered strip for the uniform distribution of phases under conditions of constant flow on the upper surface and zero concentration of admixture on the lower surface. An integro-differential equation equivalent to the original initial-boundary value problem is constructed. Its solution is found in terms of the Neumann series. Calculation formulae are obtained for the diffusion flow averaged over the ensemble of phase configurations under both zero and constant nonzero initial concentrations. Software is developed, a dependence of averaged diffusion flows on the medium characteristics is studied and general regularities of this process are established.

Opis:
Admixture diffusion flows are investigated in two-phase randomly nonhomogeneous multilayered strips with non-uniform distributions of inclusions. Cases where the most probable disposition of layered inclusions is located near the body boundary on which the mass source acts in the neighborhood of another boundary and in the middle of the body are considered. The initial-boundary value problem is formulated for the function of random mass flow under conditions of a constant flow on the upper surface and zero concentration of the admixture on the lower surface. Calculation formulae are obtained for the diffusion flow averaged over the ensemble of phase configurations in the particular cases of beta-distribution at zero and nonzero initial concentrations. The dependences of the averaged admixture flows on medium characteristics are established. It is shown that if the admixture diffusion coefficient in inclusions is greater than in the matrix, consolidation of inclusions in the middle of the body leads to an increasing diffusion flow. Simulation of the averaged diffusion flows of the admixture in the multilayered strip is performed for different model variants of a probable disposition of phases in the body and their comparative analysis is carried out.

Opis:
It is known that external diffusional resistances are significant in immobilized enzyme packed-bed reactors, especially at large scales. Thus, the external mass transfer effects were analyzed for hydrogen peroxide decomposition by immobilized Terminox Ultra catalase in a packed-bed bioreactor. For this purpose the apparent reaction rate constants, kP, were determined by conducting experimental works at different superficial velocities, U, and temperatures. To develop an external mass transfer model the correlation between the Colburn factor, JD, and the Reynolds number, Re, of the type JD = K Re(n-1) was assessed and related to the mass transfer coefficient, kmL. The values of K and n were calculated from the dependence (am kp-1 - kR-1) vs. Re-1 making use of the intrinsic reaction rate constants, kR, determined before. Based on statistical analysis it was found that the mass transfer correlation JD = 0.972 Re-0.368 predicts experimental data accurately. The proposed model would be useful for the design and optimization of industrial-scale reactors

An analytical solution of an MHD free convective thermal diffusive flow of a viscous, incompressible, electrically conducting and heat-absorbing fluid past a infinite vertical permeable porous plate in the presence of radiation and chemical reaction is presented. The flow is considered under the influence of a magnetic field applied normal to the flow. The plate is assumed to move with a constant velocity in the direction of fluid flow in slip flow regime, while free stream velocity is assumed to follow the exponentially increasing small perturbation law. The velocity, temperature, concentration, skin friction, Nusselt number and Sherwood number distributions are derived and have shown through graphs and tables by using the simple perturbation technique.

One of the basic issues of examination of process of interaction of two-component alloys is the study of the mass transfer process in the presence of dot flaws: internodal atoms and vacancies. The study of this process in real experiments is impossible; therefore it is reasonable to apply computer modelling. The authors present a model of Ni-Al bimetal diffusion process produced by the method of molecular dynamics.
Jednym z podstawowych zagadnień analizy procesu interakcji stopów dwuskładnikowych jest badanie procesu wymiany masy w obecności defektów punktowych: atomów międzywęzłowych i wakansów.
