Opis:
The field of quantum chaos originated in the study of spectral statistics for interacting many-body systems, but this heritage was almost forgotten when single-particle systems moved into the focus. In recent years new interest emerged in many-body aspects of quantum chaos. We study a chain of interacting, kicked spins and carry out a semiclassical analysis that is capable of identifying all kinds of genuine many-body periodic orbits. We show that the collective many-body periodic orbits can fully dominate the spectra in certain cases.

Opis:
Different approaches to quantum gravity proposal such as string theory, doubly special relativity, and also black holes physics, all commonly address the existence of a minimal measurable length of the order of the Planck length. One way to apply the minimal length is changing the Heisenberg algebra in the phase space which is known as the generalized uncertainty principle. It is essential to apply this feature on the statistical mechanics of many body systems in the presence of a measurable minimal length scale in order to see the roles of this natural cutoff on physical phenomena. In this paper, some details of statistical mechanics of many body systems that have not been studied carefully in literature are studied in the presence of minimal length scale. The issues such as isomerization, the Liouville theorem, virial theorem and equipartition theorem are studied in this setup with details and the results are explained thoroughly.

Parmenides was not a metaphysician (he was a materialist), so there is no such thing as Parmenidean metaphysics. Plato’s Parmenides, however, offers metaphysical insights otherwise overlooked by readers unfamiliar to what St. Thomas Aquinas offers concerning the One and the Many. This article highlights some of these insights and will interest students of St. Thomas. It might also acquaint students of Plato to a more perfect metaphysics, and it could even corrode the beliefs of others who maintain that there is no such thing as metaphysics. The fact that none of the sciences may dispense with the first science is brought heavily to bear upon the reader of the Parmenides, who finds it otherwise impossible to resolve any of the difficulties attendant upon reconciling the One and the Many. The many apparent contradictions between the One and the Many displayed in Plato’s Parmenides really cannot be solved without sound metaphysics, and sound metaphysics cannot proceed unaided by St. Thomas and his inheritors. Go to Thomas to understand Plato’s Parmenides.

An unflagging interest in describing future events has continuously motivated investigations, particularly in the field of logic.Aristotle, universally acknowledged as the father of logic, proposed a set of certain bases from which we could depart with our investigations. However, these are tools in which, despite their great value, one can perceive certain shortcomings.Over the centuries many attempts have been made to discover a means of describing any sentence, expressed in any grammatical form. One of these attempts is bilattice theory, through which it has been attempted to describe future events. This theory makes use of tools such as vagueness and different forms of semantics including subvaluationism and supervaluationism. In lattice theory itself, the double lattice known as the FOUR lattice (four-valued bilattice logic) is directly employed. After analyzing the structure of a given theory one may easily make use of it in practice, providing examples of its usage.

In the case that A is an operator with finitely many negative squares we prove sharp estimates on the number of eigenvalues of B in the interval I. The general results are applied to singular indefinite Sturm-Liouville problems.

The relationship between formal (standard) logic and informal (common-sense, everyday) reasoning has always been a hot topic. In this paper, we propose another possible way to bring it up inspired by connexive logic. Our approach is based on the following presupposition: whatever method of formalizing informal reasoning you choose, there will always be some classically acceptable deductive principles that will have to be abandoned, and some desired schemes of argument that clearly are not classically valid. That way, we start with a new version of connexive logic which validates Boethius’ (and thus, Aristotle’s) Theses and quashes their converse from right to left. We provide a sound and complete axiomatization of this logic. We also study the implication-negation fragment of this logic supplied with Boolean negation as a second negation.

Opis:
Starting from the notions of q-entailment and p-entailment, a two-dimensional notion of entailment is developed with respect to certain generalized q-matrices referred to as B-matrices. After showing that every purely monotonic singleconclusion consequence relation is characterized by a class of B-matrices with respect to q-entailment as well as with respect to p-entailment, it is observed that, as a result, every such consequence relation has an inferentially four-valued characterization. Next, the canonical form of B-entailment, a two-dimensional multiple-conclusion notion of entailment based on B-matrices, is introduced, providing a uniform framework for studying several different notions of entailment based on designation, antidesignation, and their complements. Moreover, the two-dimensional concept of a B-consequence relation is defined, and an abstract characterization of such relations by classes of B-matrices is obtained. Finally, a contribution to the study of inferential many-valuedness is made by generalizing Suszko’s Thesis and the corresponding reduction to show that any B-consequence relation is, in general, inferentially four-valued.

Opis:
The term ‘pragmateme’ has been coined relatively recently and therefore its usage is still hesitant and its definitions lack precision. This makes it difficult to delimit the scope of all that relates to the intuition of the term. We believe that two criteria are crucial for the identification of the concept. First, it would signify an autonomous linguistic unit implying an act of enunciation, characterised by the adequacy between selecting an appropriate linguistic segment and its application, with all that it entails as constraints. This criterion derives from classical logic, based on the binary opposition of truth and falsehood. The other element of the definition of the pragmateme is difficult to apply due to its subjectivity. It can be described in terms of many-valued fuzzy logic. It requires that a privileged link be created in the consciousness of langage users between a particular formulation, conveying a given semantic content and other, competing formulations. Neither of the two criteria is correlated with formal exponents, which prevents them from being used in a database compiled for the purpose of creating a dictionary of pragmatemes

The calculations of the influence of the self-energy effects on the electron-positron (e-p) enhancement factors and the e-p momentum distributions are presented. The approach bases on the novel formulation of the Bethe- -Goldstone (B-G) equation for the positron in an electron gas where the scattering of the electrons into the states below the Fermi surface due to the self-energy effects is allowed. This equation has been solved and the corresponding e-p enhancement factors and momentum distributions have been found. The agreement between the absolute values of the theoretical calculations and experimental data has improved noticeably.

Opis:
The purpose of this paper is to offer a logico‑philosophical critical overview of the theory of multiple realities (TWR). The paper is divided into three sections. In the first section I present a brief history of the development of some ideas, which combined together form the conceptual framework of the theory in question, whose main thesis is that there is more than one reality. In the second part I present (and try to address) some interpretations of TWR, which can be described as: ontological; epistemological; esthetical; logical ad mixed interpretations. When doing so, a special emphasis is laid on the presentation of an explication of TWR based on theory of models, an explication authored by Teresa Kostyrko. This explication rests on a conditional recognition of the particular ‘realities’ of Chwistek’s theory as proper models (i.e. those, which fulfill the condition of the identity of meaning of theory’s fundamental notions) of the theories of reality, with the provision that such models are indeed constructible. In the last section of my paper I propose a preliminary appraisal of the TWR as well as a way to reengineer this theory in order to avoid some of its difficulties. By appealing to Kostyrko’s idea on one hand and the spirit Quinean ontological relativism on the other, I wish to argue as follows: (1) ‘reality’ is the name of the set comprising all meanings of the term ‘reality’; (2) under particular conditions these meanings can be arranged in a theory, which posseses a proper model (scientific discourse, some forms of the common talk); (3) model proper designate by definition classes of objects, which we regard as existent on the grounds of a given theory. The above set of theses forms the core of a concept, which I propose to call the ‘manifold reality’ in order to differentiate it from TWR, the development of which theory it is, as well as its modification towards a new kind of ontology.

Finding clusters in high dimensional data is a challenging research problem. Subspace clustering algorithms aim to find clusters in all possible subspaces of the dataset, where a subspace is a subset of dimensions of the data. But the exponential increase in the number of subspaces with the dimensionality of data renders most of the algorithms inefficient as well as ineffective. Moreover, these algorithms have ingrained data dependency in the clustering process, which means that parallelization becomes difficult and inefficient. SUBSCALE is a recent subspace clustering algorithm which is scalable with the dimensions and contains independent processing steps which can be exploited through parallelism. In this paper, we aim to leverage the computational power of widely available multi-core processors to improve the runtime performance of the SUBSCALE algorithm. The experimental evaluation shows linear speedup. Moreover, we develop an approach using graphics processing units (GPUs) for fine-grained data parallelism to accelerate the computation further. First tests of the GPU implementation show very promising results.

We parallelized the sequential algorithm of the four-body correlation function if eachcombination of two pairs(i, j)and(k, l) was averaged over the time in a separate calculation thread. The generator of pairs used as the input for this algorithm was also parallelized and connected with the 4-body correlation function calculations. We used our algorithm to accelerate extremely intensive calculations of the 4-body polarizability anisotropy correlation functions, which were very important to estimate the interaction induced light scattering spectrum. The resulting C code was used to test our algorithm on Graphics Processing Units (GPUs) with the Compute Unified Device Architecture (CUDA) technology from NVIDIA®Corporation. Asa result, we achieved 12 times the acceleration of the 4-body correlation function calculations in comparison to the Central Processing Unit (CPU) core. The peak performance of the GPU calculations was registered at the level of 19 times faster than the CPU core. We also found thatacceleration depended on the memory consumption. In the single precision mode, the relative error between the CPU and GPU calculations was found to be within 0.1%
