This study uses statistical quality control (SQC) and overall equipment effectiveness (OEE) to examine quality at a porcelain production firm. The study is motivated by the most frequently broken machines in 2019, is the Jigger 01 machine. This paper aims to evaluate the machine’s effectiveness using the OEE method. The OEE determines the scope of the problem to be solved using the SQC method. The average OEE value in 2019 was 70%. Based on the SQC method, the product defect produced is still under control. However, the average defect is still above the company’s tolerance limit of 10%. Consequently, this study offers enhancements utilizing the Failure Mode Effect Analysis (FMEA) technique. The results indicate that human resources and machines caused defective products. This paper contributes to providing several improvements that the company can apply to maximize its quality control analysis. After implementing the improvement, the OEE value increases to 74%.

Opis:
The subject of the article is the influence of filament moisture on the quality of products manufactured using the additive method using the Fused Deposition Modelling (FDM) method. Three types of thermoplastic polymers were tested: ABS, PLA and PET-G. The polymers were stored in environments with different humidity. The moisture content of the filament was determined as the water content in the material expressed as a percentage by weight. To obtain the expected humidity of the samples, they were conditioned for 7 days in tightly closed containers with constant humidity of 40%, 60% and 80%. After the sample conditioning process was completed, they were removed from the container and subjected to further tests. The influence of filament humidity on selected properties of manufactured products is presented, such as: surface quality of the obtained samples, tensile strength and dimensional repeatability. To sum up, the method of storing the filament affects the moisture content of the filament. The humidity of the filament, in turn, affects the quality of products manufactured using the FDM method, including: on: mechanical properties, dimensional stability, Surface appearance. Therefore, it is important in what conditions the filament is stored before the production process begins.

Opis:
Purpose: In the development of ideas for Industry 4.0, information about the element production cycle has become more and more important. Knowledge of the subsequent forming processes, determination of the machine on which the process has been carried out and of the type and wear of the tool, leads to smart production management, which plays an increasingly important role in the metal forming industry. To meet the current expectations for these challenges, an advanced technology needs to be introduced for monitoring the manufacturing processes by deploying flexible solutions. This technology must include, but not be limited to, identifying and tracking the product using laser marking. Design/methodology/approach: Laser marking allows a permanent mark in the form of a barcode to be applied to the sheet metal surface. Commonly used marking methods and the condition of the sheet metal surface can affect the marking contrast. This paper presents a concept for recording individual stages of sheet metal forming and determination of the impact of the laser marking technology on the contrast of the applied barcode. To ensure accurate control of the deformation stages, the bulging process of the spherical dome has been used as an example. Findings: Analysis of the influence of laser marking method on the barcode recognition accuracy can contribute to the development of smart management of the production process according to the idea of Industry 4.0. Research limitations/implications: A large plastic deformation has been applied to the sheet metal surface and no limitation in a barcode reading process (using vision scanning technology) was indicated. Also, the geometry deformation (different angle view of the CCD camera) of the barcode image has introduced no additional problems with a barcode reading. Originality/value: The optimal parameters of a laser marking technique for barcode marking, which are critical for the material that is subjected to metal forming operations that deform it, have been studied. The results shows that traceability is an attractive solution for tracking technological data in the production chain for a single-shaped product.

Opis:
Kaizen has long been known as an improvement philosophy that starts with small frequent changes to make larger changes in production. These changes come from the ideas and creative thinking of employees to ensure that the production conditions and processes are continuously improved. However, Kaizen not only helps motivate employees to think creatively with effective methods and skills, but it also helps them develop their capabilities, personality, and good work habits. The purpose of this paper is to show a new approach to human resources quality improvement through the Kaizen philosophy as a sustainable and active strategy to improve work performance. With analytical research on the relationship between Kaizen implementation, human resources quality improvement, and production efficiency and exploratory research on particular cases in manufacturing enterprises in Vietnam, the authors point out changes in production efficiency and human capacity before and after implementing improvement (Kaizen) projects. The paper finds significant changes of employee capability (Kaizen practitioners) after evaluating the human resource development process on the basis of six indicators of two groups (namely capacity development, personality development) and a set of criteria using a 5-point scale. In addition, the paper proposes a PDCA based framework with 12 contents corresponding to stages of the human resource development. This paper extends theories related to Lean Manufacturing or Kaizen, highlighting how philosophy of Kaizen has hard and soft impacts on the improvement of performance and human resources.

Opis:
Today, manufacturing companies strive to find the stability between satisfying their customers by producing in accordance with their expectations (quantity and quality) and keeping leading positions when it comes to competitiveness on their markets. This paper aims to compare two very well-known philosophies in the manufacturing industry: Lean Manufacturing (LM) and Six Sigma (6S). The integration of these two philosophies solves the insufficiency that the absence of one of them causes, considering that Six Sigma is based on statistical tools that focus on measuring and reducing variations in processes and achieving goals set by the customers' requirements. Lean Manufacturing focuses mainly on the value added for a client, for example,by eliminating all kinds of waste from processes what leads to the reduction of time and cost of the process. Lean Six Sigma combines the features of both methods, which means that it meets the client's requirements based on statistical knowledge and the process flow control, but simultaneously in addition to that, it reduces the time and cost of the processes. As a result, it gives manufacturing companies the possibility of having loyal and satisfied customers and who provide companies with new customers. This paper has a greater goal of persuading the Angolan manufacturing industries to implement the Integrated Lean Six Sigma (IL6S) into their production and management processes.

Previous studies of reliability centered maintenance (RCM) rarely consider the maintenance quality for the operation condition monitoring of manufacturing system. Therefore, a quality-oriented maintenance approach for the multistate manufacturing system with the aid of mission reliability is proposed. First, connotations of the mission reliability and maintenance quality of the multistate manufacturing system are expounded on the basis of the operational mechanism. Second, a quality stochastic flow network (QSFN) model of the multistate manufacturing system is established, and a novel mission reliability model is presented. Third, a quality-oriented mission reliability–centered maintenance framework for multistate manufacturing systems is proposed, and the optimal integrated maintenance strategy is obtained by minimizing the total cost. Finally, an industrial example of subway flow receiver is presented to verify the proposed method. Results show that the proposed method can simultaneously balance the maintenance cost and maintenance quality of the multistate manufacturing system.

Paracetamol also known as acetaminophen is a widely used antipyretic and analgesic agent. The therapeutic efficacy of pharmaceutical products depends on both microbial and physicochemical qualities of the products, hence, the need to routinely assess the pharmaceutical quality of the available brands of the tablets to ensure they conform to standard specifications. This study was done to evaluate the microbial and physicochemical qualities of 10 brands of paracetamol tablets sold in Nigeria. The purchased drug samples were evaluated for their uniformity of weight, crushing strength, friability, disintegration time, total viable aerobic count and content of active ingredient. These tests were performed by standard methods and techniques following official pharmacopoeia protocols. The investigated 10 brands of paracetamol tablets passed the standards of the British Pharmacopoea (BP) regarding microbial specifications. The tablets were uniform in weight with crushing strength 5 KgF - 12 KgF except a brand with crushing strength ranging between 15 KgF – 18 KgF and another brand which has no crushing strength. The disintegration times were within 15 minutes except a brand with a disintegration time of 27 minutes 44 seconds. Friability values were less than 1%. The % content of paracetamol as an active ingredient in the tablets ranges from 90-110%. 8 out of 10 brands of the paracetamol tablets assessed met all compendia standards. However, products of good quality can be guaranteed through quality control and adherence to the provisions of good manufacturing practices. Also, a routine sentinel market surveillance of pharmaceutical products is encouraged.

Opis:
Aiming to reduce flatness (Total Thickness Variation, TTV) defects in the lapping process of the silicon wafer manufacturing, it is crucial to understand and eliminate the root cause(s). Financial losses resulting from TTV defects make the lapping process unsustainable. DMAIC (Define, Measure, Analyse, Improve and Control), which is a Six Sigma methodology, was implemented to improve the quality of the silicon wafer manufacturing process. The study design and the choice of procedures were contingent on customer requirements and customised to ensure maximum satisfaction; which is the underlying principle of the rigorous, statistical technique of Six Sigma. Previously unknown causes of high TTV reject rates were identified, and a massive reduction in the TTV reject rate was achieved (from 4.43% to 0.02%). Also, the lapping process capability (Ppk) increased to 3.87 (beyond the required standard of 1.67), suggesting sustainable long-term stability. Control procedures were also effectively implemented using the techniques of poka yoke and control charts. This paper explores the utility of Six Sigma, a quality management technique, to improve the quality of a process used in the semiconductor industry. The application of the Six Sigma methodology in the current project provides an example of the root cause investigation methodology that can be adopted for similar processes or industries. Some of the statistical tools and techniques were used for the first time in this project, thereby providing new analysis and quality improvement platform for the future. The article offers a deeper understanding of the factors that impact on the silicon wafer flatness in the lapping process. It also highlights the benefits of using a structured problem-solving methodology like Six Sigma.

The study highlighted many issues where the Lean Manufacturing concept supports and opposes the BRC Standard for Packaging. A framework for the coexistence of both approaches was determined. The study was of a conceptual nature; it adopted an analytical approach. The approach was based on in-depth consideration of each requirement in the BRC Standard for Packaging s and an assessment of the coherence with the Lean Manufacturing methodology. As a result, many conclusions, clues and challenges were found. The article indicates several areas, in which Lean Manufacturing supports the BRC Standard for Packaging, attributing a special positive role to Lean Tools & Techniques. Also, it indicates six areas, in which the BRC Standard for Packaging contradicts the Lean Manufacturing approach. A comprehensive analysis of the coexistence of both management systems allows a better understanding of challenges while implementing both of them in an organisation. The presented concept of the coexistence of both systems is valuable for management.
