Opis:: The article presents an assessment of industrial companies in Poland versus companies from selected European countries. It begins with the literature survey in which the authors highlight the specificity and main factors shaping the competitiveness of industry. Both traditional and contemporary determinants of competitiveness are discussed, particularly those associated with spatial integration, effects of concentration on selected growth sectors with a high added value, use of creative skills, quality of institutions and social capital. The authors also analyse the competitiveness of Polish companies with use of some complex measures such as Global Competitiveness Index and the Competitive Industrial Performance Index. The article concludes with indicating the key factors and barriers of competitiveness of Polish industrial companies.

Opis:: This article elaborates an existence of a positive effect of the use of a series of ICTs by knowledge workers on increasing the number of R&D projects in a manufacturing company. It focuses on the set of the knowledge workers, who use a series of ICTs (1) for searching data and information, (2) for sales and purchases, (3) for creating new ideas and products, (4) for analysing data and information in manufacturing companies and is based on a survey and data obtained from 62 Polish Manufacturing Enterprises from Lubuskie region and from 23 German Manufacturing Enterprises from Brandenburg region – also from 85 manufacturing enterprises from the region: „cross-border cooperation: Lubuskie/Poland and Brandenburg/Germany”. This article develops a framework to examine the main relationships between the use of a series of ICTs by knowledge workers and how it influences the increase of R&D projects in manufacturing companies and further discusses the research results.
W artykule pokazano istnienie pozytywnego wpływu użytkowania informatycznych technologii przez pracowników wiedzy na wzrost liczby realizowanych projektów badawczo-rozwojowych w przedsiębiorstwach produkcyjnych. Zdefiniowano zbiór pracowników wiedzy, którzy stosują technologie informatyczne odpowiednio dla celów: (1) poszukiwania danych i informacji, (2) dla celów sprzedaży i zakupu, (3) dla celów tworzenia nowych pomysłów i produktów, (4) dla celów analizy danych i informacji w przedsiębiorstwie produkcyjnym. Wyniki badań przedstawione w artykule opierają się na wynikach badań empirycznych uzyskanych z 62 polskich przedsiębiorstw produkcyjnych z województwa lubuskiego i z 23 przedsiębiorstw produkcyjnych z regionu Brandenburg – to jest z 85 przedsiębiorstw produkcyjnych z regionu transgranicznej współpracy polsko-niemieckiej: Lubuskie – Brandenburg. W artykule zdefiniowano relacje pomiędzy zastosowaniem informatycznych technologii przez pracowników wiedzy i zwiększeniem liczby realizowanych projektów badawczo-rozwojowych w przedsiębiorstwach produkcyjnych oraz przeprowadzono dyskusję wyników.

Opis:: The unique set of physical and chemical properties of asbestos has led to its many industrial applications, such as roof coverings, textiles, rope, cord and yarn, paper, friction and composition materials, household product, acid-resistant filters, packing, insulation, and certain types of lagging, amongst others. In Poland asbestos-containing products were manufactured from raw materials imported mainly from the former Soviet Union, with production launched at the beginning of 20th century. According to Annex 4 to the Act of 19 June 1997 on the prohibition of the use of asbestos-containing products, there were 28 asbestos manufacturing plants in Poland located in 11 provinces throughout the country. The current survey was undertaken to enable asbestos manufacturing plants to be arranged, described and divided in order to contribute to further surveys.

Opis:: Celem artykułu jest ukazanie powiązań foresightu regionalnego z nowoczesnym zarządzaniem przedsiębiorstwem produkcyjnym. Autorzy opisują rodzaje oraz etapy realizacji foresightu regionalnego, dokonują przeglądu polskich foresightów regionalnych, a także przedstawiają rządowe programy służące działaniom typu foresight. Dokonują przy tym modyfikacji czynników wpływających na strategię przedsiębiorstwa produkcyjnego, dowodząc, że uczestnictwo w foresightcie regionalnym oraz obserwowanie wyników innych projektów typu foresight może być, w perspektywie długoterminowej, źródłem wymiernych korzyści.
The aim of the article is to present the relationship between regional foresight and modern management of a manufacturing enterprise. The article discusses different types and stages of regional foresight, gives an overview of Polish regional foresight programmes and presents governmental initiatives aimed at promoting foresight. The authors modify the set of factors which influence strategies of manufacturing enterprises and prove that active participation in regional foresight as well as monitoring of outputs from other foresight projects may bring tangible benefits in the long-term perspective.
