Opis:
The fused deposition modeling process of digital printing uses a layer-by-layer approach to form a three-dimensional structure. Digital printing takes more time to fabricate a 3D model, and the speed varies depending on the type of 3D printer, material, geometric complexity, and process parameters. A shorter path for the extruder can speed up the printing process. However, the time taken for the extruder during printing (deposition) cannot be reduced, but the time taken for the extruder travel (idle move) can be reduced. In this study, the idle travel of the nozzle is optimized using a bioinspired technique called "ant colony optimization" (ACO) by reducing the travel transitions. The ACO algorithm determines the shortest path of the nozzle to reduce travel and generates the tool paths as G-codes. The proposed method’s G-code is implemented and compared with the G-code generated by the commercial slicer, Cura, in terms of build time. Experiments corroborate this finding: the G-code generated by the ACO algorithm accelerates the FDM process by reducing the travel movements of the nozzle, hence reducing the part build time (printing time) and increasing the strength of the printed object.

The purpose of the study is to compare Developmental leadership with Lean leadership; document the differences and similarities and examine if you can combine these theories to achieve better results in the organization. A literature review is used. The result indicates more similarities than differences between Developmental leadership and Lean leadership behavior. The major difference is that Developmental leadership focuses on making the leader conscious of their own behavior and develop (possibly change) their behavior. Through new behaviors their co-workers and organization also gain developmental advantages. There is no further purpose described in Development leadership theory. Lean leadership also concentrates on behaviors, but clearly declares an override purpose; continuous improvement with focus on eliminating waste in the value stream. Lean leadership behaviors share a similar purpose, and focus on making leaders aware of what incorrect behaviors can cost or cause the organization. Even if Lean leadership does not have this clear and distinct relationship it is an underlying element in one of the two key principles - respect for people, which permeates both models. The two studied models seem to be quite similar and both focus on role models and frequency of developmental/value creating behaviors. The proposed comparative study should be oriented towards practical application in management positions.

Opis:
This paper is a  literature review to compare selected dimensions of manufacturing, services and R&D sectors supply chains. Each supply chain is seen as a  system which proper input should be proceed to gain appropriate output. Therefore, to study the supply chains, inputs, outputs and the processors specifications should be considered and the most common characteristics of each sectors’ input and output are investigated; additionally, due to wide range of supply chain specifications the factors are brought from the literature to the model to have a  unique structure of comparison: quality, cost, flexibility, competitiveness, resource utilization and innovation. The final result is a  comparison of the factors in manufacturing, service and R&D sourcing.Purpose – This paper is a  literature review. Due to novelty of R&D sourcing in compare with tangible manufacturing sourcing and intangible service sourcing, and lots of models and procedures from manufacturing sourcing were modified in services sourcing, we tried to compare manufacturing and services sourcing bold aspects with R&D souring to find out the possibilities of such modifications. Additionally, exploring on the similarities and differences could lighten up sourcing strategy selection processes.Design/methodology/approach – Supply chain management is initiated in manufacturing companies, and then various methods, procedures and strategies are modified, developed, and applied at service sector organizations. Therefore, R&D supply chains can be understood by comparing various factors of manufacturing (tangible) and service (intangible) supply chains to find opportunities for modification or innovation in R&D supply chains. The supply chain is a  system in which the input should pass out the processor to be converted into the appropriate output. Thus, in this study, inputs, outputs, and processors of supply chains are studied. Using the variation and range of supply chains factors as processor criteria, the most important characteristics of supply chains are studied: quality, cost, flexibility, competitiveness, resource utilization, and innovation.Findings – The result of the study is a  general comparison of R&D, manufacturing, and service supply chains in terms of these criteria: quality, cost, flexibility, competitiveness, resource utilization, and innovation that gives a  synergetic view pointsOriginality/Value – Modifying and developing sourcing strategies and procedures in manufacturing and service sourcing are possible approaches. The possibilities and opportunities in R&D sourcing were evaluated. Subsequently, there are not any other researches which compare R&D sourcing with manufacturing and services.

Opis:
In recent years, additive manufacturing (AM) technologies, have been one of the fastest developing methods of production of various components. As far as building material is concerned, they allow for using not only polymers, but also composites or metals. Products fabricated using said technologies are used in various areas of industries, for instance in medicine, architecture, entertainment, and in particular in the construction of parts and components of machinery and equipment. To recognize and determine the products’ strength properties in a more comprehensive manner, 3D printing products used in mechanical applications are subject to various tests, e.g. static tensile test. This paper contains research about static torsion test on cylindrical samples made of high grade 20CrNiMo2-2 steel using the selective laser melting (SLM). Such an approach allowed to observe the material behaviour and to determine specific values of strength properties, such as the maximum tangential stresses in the material and bulk modulus of elasticity (shear modulus). The determination of such parameters allowed to compare them with the results of the tests carried out on components manufactured using other methods (e.g. a cold drawn solid bar sample).
Produkty powstałe z zastosowaniem opisywanych technik znajdują zastosowanie w różnych dziedzinach życia, dla przykładu w medycynie, architekturze, rozrywce a w szczególności w budowie części i elementów maszyn i urządzeń. Aby lepiej poznać i określić właściwości wytrzymałościowe wyrobów, kluczowe w przypadku wykorzystania produktów druku 3D w dziedzinie mechanicznej, poddaje się je wielu badaniom np. statycznej próbie rozciągania.

Knowledge management is a process aimed at enriching and effectively using knowledge assets in various areas of business operations. It also applies to manufacturing enterprises that offer tangible products combining it with the art of processing information and intellectual assets into added value for the customer. A characteristic feature of manufacturing enterprises is assigning their employees a double role: a knowledge user and, at the same time, an internal source of specialist knowledge. In the situation of dynamically changing market conditions, there is an additional need to acquire new knowledge (in practice: often to buy knowledge) from the company’s environment. A solution in the above-mentioned scope in Poland may be digital repositories of science assets as tools for knowledge transfer to SMEs. Research institutes are an important element in the process of knowledge transfer from scientific units to the economy (e.g. they offer their services in open access). The paper presents the concept of such a repository preceded by a diagnosis of the existing state, an analysis of the recipients of the deposited content and the examination and analysis of the requirements of potential users of the repository.

Manufacturing errors (MEs) are unavoidable in product fabrication. The omnipresence of manufacturing errors (MEs) in product engineering necessitates the development of robust optimization methodologies. In this research, a novel approach based on the morphological operations and interval field (MOIF) theory is proposed to address MEs in the discrete-variable-based topology optimization procedures. On the basis of a methodology for deterministic topology optimization (TO) based on the Min-Cut, MOIF introduces morphological operations to generate geometrical variations, while the dimension of the structuring element is dynamically set by the interval field function’s output. The effectiveness of the proposed approach as a powerful tool for accounting for spatially uneven ME in the TOs has been demonstrated.

The varied product range characterized by lower technological-organizational similarity when compared to “Ushaped” units typical for Lean Production. The paper presents an algorithm for the designing of a “tree-shaped” production line and examples of its application. The designed unit underwent evaluation according to the criteria preferred by Lean Manufacturing experts. The designed production unit achieved results confirming the effectiveness of the proposed concept for the analysed sets of input data on the product range and production capacities.

Maintenance is a key manufacturing function that contributes to a company’s productivity, profitability and sustainability. Unfortunately, many aspects of the contribution of maintenance to sustainability in manufacturing remain unexplored, and many enterprises are not yet ready to assess the maintenance impacts on their sustainability. Maturity models are useful tools for assessing maintenance practices; however, no maintenance maturity model that allows the evaluation of the contribution of maintenance to sustainable performance was found in literature. This paper proposes a model for assessing the maturity and sustainability of maintenance processes. The model outputs are: a measure of the maintenance and sustainability maturity level; recommendations for improvement to undertake to enhance maintenance maturity and, thus, meet sustainability standards. The model was applied in three manufacturing enterprises: the calculation of their maintenance maturity and sustainability indices made the maintenance stakeholders more aware of the need to implement effective strategies for more sustainable maintenance performance.
