Information technology companies often have to setup a specific virtual environment in order to develop innovative software products. Software development requires a variety of IT tools to ensure a smooth flow of information and proper organisation of tasks within the project team. The evolution of information and communication technologies has allowed virtual teams to share knowledge online, which became more preferable than traditional meetings of developers. The main objective of this article is to determine how virtual project teams are being formed and what are the key attributes of a virtual team – a conceptual Three Aspects Model of a virtual team was presented that may be used in further research. An overview of supportive project management software solutions for virtual teams has also been conducted. The research results presented in the paper indicate that various IT tools lack support in some aspects of virtual project teams.

The paper presents modern NetApp storage systems through a brief description of their features hardware and software management, necessary for effective governing of stored data. This document presents the issues of cutting-edge hardware, consolidation and administration of data and protection from loss. It also issues system software and its capabilities in advanced information technologies, the effect of which is the ability to meet the diversified demands of customers and users.

Współcześnie, zarządzanie projektami wymaga zmierzenia się z turbulentnym środowiskiem projektowym, dużą ilością informacji wymagających przetworzenia oraz rozproszonymi zespołami, pracującymi w różnych częściach świata. Wpływa to na rozwój narzędzi informatycznych, wspomagających zbieranie, przetwarzanie i dystrybucję w rozproszonym środowisku projektowym informacji zarządczej. Wraz ze wzrostem liczby tego typu produktów, coraz trudniejszym staje się dobór oprogramowania odpowiedniego do wymagań danej organizacji oraz prowadzonych przez nią projektów. Celem artykułu jest przedstawienie procedury wyboru optymalnego oprogramowania z wykorzystaniem metody AHP (Analytic Hierarchy Process). Realizując go, dokonano przeglądu literatury oraz przedstawiono założenia pilotażowych badań empirycznych. Ich celem była weryfikacja postulatywnego, wielowymiarowego modelu wyboru oprogramowania do zarządzania projektami. Na podstawie uzyskanych wyników sformułowano wnioski o charakterze poznawczym, metodologicznym oraz utylitarnym, wskazując także na trudności zaobserwowane podczas realizacji badania.
Nowadays, project management requires dealing with a turbulent project's environment, a lot of information to process and the team of people working in different parts of the world. This affects for the development of IT tools that require collection, processing and distribution of management information. In the parallel with increasing the number of these products, it becomes more and more difficult to choose software that is appropriate to the organization's requirements and the projects it runs. The aim of the article is to present the procedure for selecting the optimal software by using AHP method (Analytic Hierarchy Process). By implementing it, the literature was reviewed and the assumptions of pilot empirical research were presented. The goal was to verify the postulative, multidimensional model of selecting project management software. Based on them, cognitive, methodological and utilitarian conclusions were formulated, also indicating the difficulties observed during the implementation of the study.

Software Configuration Management (SCM) evolves together with the discipline of software engineering. Teams working on software products become larger and are geographically distributed at multiple sites. Collaboration between such groups requires well evaluated SCM plans and strategies to easy cooperation and decrease software development cost by reducing time spent on SCM activities - branching and merging, that is effort utilized on creation of revisions ('serial' versions) and variants ('parallel' versions). This paper suggests that SCM practices should be combined with modular design and code refactoring to reduce cost related to maintenance of the same code line. Teams which produce several variants of the same code line at the same time should use approaches like components, modularization, or plug-ins over code alternations maintained on version branches. Findings described in this paper were taken by teams in charge of development of radio communication systems in Motorola GEMS divisions. Each team collaborating on similar projects used different SCM strategies to develop parts of this system.
Zarządzanie konfiguracją oprogramowania (SCM) ewoluuje razem z dyscypliną inżynierii oprogramowania. Zespoły pracujące nad wytwarzaniem oprogramowania stają się coraz większe oraz niejednokrotnie fizycznie znajdują się w ośrodkach położonych na różnych kontynentach. Współpraca pomiedzy takimi zespołami powinna opierać się na dobrze przygotowanych planach zarządzania konfiguracją oprogramowania. Niniejszy artykuł sugeruje, że praktyki zarządzania konfiguracją oprogramowania powinny być połączone z fazami projektowania oraz refaktoringiem kodu, tak aby zmniejszyć koszt zwiazany z utrzymaniem tej samej linii kodu. W opinii autora artykułu, każdy z wariantów oprogramowania powinien być wytwarzany przy użyciu technik innych niż związane z zarządzaniem konfiguracją. Zespoły pracujące nad kilkoma wariantami tej samej linii kodu powinny przedkładać biblioteki i komponenty nad modyfikacje dokonywane i utrzymywane na gałęziach wersji. Doświadczenia opisane w artykule zostały nabyte przez zespoły pracujące w dziale firmy Motorola zajmującym się wytwarzaniem oprogramowania dla systemów radiokomunikacyjnych.

This paper presents a new concept of an approach to risk assessment which can be done on the basis of publicly available information about vulnerabilities. The presented approach uses also the notion of trust and implements many concepts used in so called trust and reputation management systems (which are widely used in WSN, MANET or P2P networks, but also in ecommerce platforms). The article shows first outcomes obtained from the presented model. The outcomes demonstrate that the model can be implemented in real system to make software management more quantified and objective process, which can have real and beneficial impact on institutional security. In article, however the emphasis was set not on the model itself (which can be easily changed) but on the possibility of finding useful information about vulnerabilities.

Opis:
Writing comments is as important as writing code. The main purpose of using comments is to improve readability of our code but frequently thoughtless comment writing decrease understandability of source code. Comments must be concise and precise simultaneously. Also, when our code is changed, comments for this code must be changed too. While using comments in our code we must realize that if expressiveness of our programming language allows us to express clearly what we want in code, there is no need to write comments at all. And if we decide to use comments, they must be extremely accurate and understandable, because another person must understand, what we do and most importantly, why we do it. Frequently comments can be replaced with good clear names of variables, functions or classes. Also, we can replace our comments with assertions. Comments should clarify and explain our intentions. Copyrights and an authorship can be implemented using comments too. But our IDE can do these things automatically.

W pracy zaprezentowano aplikację służącą do symulacyjnego badania przebiegu procesów logistycznych. Rozważany problem sterowania przepływem towarów i wymiany informacji w łańcuchu dostaw odwołuje się do sytuacji, w której zasoby centrum logistycznego, wykorzystywane do zaspokojenia zgłaszanego popytu, są uzupełniane towarami z zamówień składanych u jednego lub wielu dostawców. Aplikacja umożliwia badanie właściwości podstawowych, jak również zaawansowanych metod sterowania procesem zarządzania zasobami w warunkach zmiennego popytu oraz różnych parametrów środowiskowych. Za pomocą symulatora możliwa jest ocena wpływu doboru algorytmu oraz parametru minimalnej ilości towarów zamawianych jednorazowo u dostawców na redukcję kosztów transportu przy zachowaniu założonego poziomu obsługi klientów.
The paper presents an advanced software tool for modeling and control of periodic-review inventory systems. In the presented model stock in the warehouse is replenished by one or more suppliers at the same time. The application allows its users to analyze properties of both basic and advanced supply policies in the presence of variable demand and various environmental parameters. Presented software is used to determine the impact of minimum order amount parameter and chosen supply policy on total transportation cost, while still maintaining high customer service level.

The authors of this paper present a simulation of the socio-technical system in which teams of students - regarded as low-maturity organizations - were given a task to utilize the (relatively) mature technologies that support IT project and service management. The experiment consisted of the following phases: teams formation, introduction to technologies used during the simulation, performing a set of reactive and proactive service management tasks.
W artykule zaprezentowano symulację systemu społeczno-technicznego, w którym zespołom złożonym ze studentów - traktowanym jako organizacje o niskiej dojrzałości - powierzono zadanie wykorzystania stosunkowo dojrzałych technologii wspierających zarządzanie przedsięwzięciami i usługami informatycznymi. Na eksperyment składały się następujące etapy: sformowanie zespołów, wdrożenie ich w technologie użyte w symulacji, wykonanie zestawu działań reaktywnych i proaktywnych z zakresu zarządzania usługami.

The process of software development has become so dynamic that it nowadays requires more and more supporting tools. An organization which intends to have such tools implemented must take into account its possible future needs. Complex solutions usually offer greater variety of available options and functionalities but are costly to implement. This paper presents some models o IT project management together with the supporting software. Owing to applying the resource management policy at the stage of production and implementation one may assess the risk and identify potential threats. The discussed issues may shed some light on potential difficulties occurring at the particular stages of software production management whereas the conclusions may help people in charge choose the best model, including its implementation strategy. The first model are dedicated tools created from scratch and often preceded by the analysis of the existing solutions and the needs of the company and the customers. The second is to seek from the very beginning multifunction and complex tools for the big or well-developed IT systems providers. This article is to present the models regarding the IT project management (together with the related supporting tools) which are applied in the IT companies involved in providing the foreign customers with the bases of knowledge. On the basis of the experience gained while designing and developing dedicated software (by means of the above-mentioned tools) and its implementation one drew some conclusions concerning e.g., risk assessment; potential threats at every stage of the project lifecycle; improvement of the quality and production time of the software; reduction of the number of errors; improvement of the internal communication within the project team (it is the first step in the development of the design patterns). The patterns should help the managers choose the proper management model and related tools for the implementation and particular project tasks.

Despite the fact that many researchers and practitioners agree that organisational issues are equally important as technical issues from the software cost estimation (SCE) success point of view, most of the research focus has been put on the development of methods, whereas organisational factors have received surprisingly little academic scrutiny. This study aims to identify organisational factors that either support or hinder meaningful SCE, identifying their impact on estimation success. Top management’s role is specifically addressed. The study takes a qualitative and explorative case study based approach. In total, 18 semi-structured interviews aided the study of three projects in three organisations. Hence, the transferability of the results is limited. The results suggest that the role of the top management is important in creating prerequisites for meaningful estimation, but their day-to-day participation is not required for successful estimation. Top management may also induce undesired distortion in estimation. Estimation maturity and estimation success seem to have an interrelationship with software process maturity, but there seem to be no significant individual organisational factors, which alone would make estimation successful. Our results validate several distortions and biases reported in the previous studies, and show the SCE research focus has remained on methodologies and technical issues.

The paper concerns advanced risk management in the security domain. This approach is based not only on the traditional risk assessment, but also on the financial cost-benefits analysis and on the identification of hidden, non-financial factors, which may harm the operations of security measures in the operational environment. The paper is related to the FP7 ValueSec project and presents its background, methodology and results. Special focus is placed on the cost-benefits assessment (CBA) of the proposed security measures. Cost and benefits categories are discussed along with the operation of the CBA component. The elaborated toolset is used to support decision makers in different security domains.
Artykuł dotyczy ilościowych metod zarządzania ryzykiem, pozwalających na uwzględnienie w formie pieniężnej kosztów zabezpieczeń oraz korzyści związanych z redukcją ryzyka, uzyskiwanych w wyniku wdrożenia zabezpieczeń. Pokazano przykład zastosowania analizy kosztów-korzyści w projekcie FP 7 ValueSec zrealizowanym z udziałem Instytutu EMAG oraz zamierzenia wykorzystania tego podejścia w aktualnie realizowanym projekcie CIRAS (EPCIP) poświęconym zarządzaniu ryzykiem w infrastrukturach krytycznych. Przedstawiona została przykładowa struktura kosztów i korzyści oraz mierniki efektywności analizowanych rozwiązań. Artykuł przedstawia moduł analizy kosztów-korzyści na tle całego systemu ValueSec, obejmującego także szacowanie ryzyka oraz ocenę czynników pozaekonomicznych, ograniczających efektywność zabezpieczeń.

Agile methods for project management are often treated as methods for mitigating risk. However, there is disagreement as to whether explicit methods of risk management should be used in projects which are executed according to Agile methodology or is the implicit risk management built into Agile methodologies sufficient. To contribute to the discussion, an attempt has been made to identify risks that are either caused by the introduction of an Agile methodology to a project or become more significant when such methodology is in use. If such risks exist, this would be evidence that explicit risk management is required, even in the case of Agile methodologies. The results of this research may be useful for any organization that is in the process of selecting a methodology for project management and is considering Agile methodologies.

The availability of dynamic resource management will be crucial for the deployment of future wireless systems characterized by high data rate services with rigid quality of service demands. Flexible radios appear as the technological answer required to achieve constraint goals under different channel conditions and transmission scenarios. This paper is focused on enhancing another step of flexibility within the resource management by including an efficient handling of computing resources. This concept towards flexible architectures represents a key word for a real successful implementation due to the relationship between the radio applications, which face the scarcity of resources within a heterogeneous environment, and the processing power needed to execute them.

Software-Defined Networking (SDN) is seen as the most promising networking technology today. The spread of a new technology depends on the acceptance of the engineers implementing the networks. Typically, when engineers start the conceptualization of new network devices that work with a new paradigm, and that should provide expected business values, they must identify and utilize technical enablers for the defined business use cases. This paper tries to summarize essential SDN applications and defines the technical enablers for advanced and efficient SDN networking. To this end, we identify the core technical mechanisms, expecting to provide a useful analysis for the design of new SDN networks.

Celem artykułu nie jest porównanie i przedstawienie wszystkich programów, a jedynie zaprezentowanie pojedynczych przedstawicieli grup programów, które można zestawić w jeden działający system zarządzania projektem, organizacji wiedzy oraz danych bibliograficznych, a także analizy materiału empirycznego z wykorzystaniem rodziny programów CAQDAS (Computer Assisted Qualitative Data Analysis Software).
The article introduces the reader to the area of computer programs that can contribute to work on a research project in each of its phases and on the organizational and substantive level. The aim of the article is not tthe comparison and presentation of all of the programs, but the presentation of individual representatives of programs that can be compiled into a single functional system. A system which facilitates such operations like project management, knowledge and bibliographic data organization, and analysis of empirical material with the use of CAQDAS (Computer Assisted Qualitative Data Analysis Software).

Nowadays, much of the crimes committed were unreported to the authorities. Given this fact, the study presents the development of a Crime Management and Reporting System through online and even offline and at the same time is the active participation of the citizens. The idea draws its motivation from the inconvenience of going to the police station and personal belief of the weak investigative capabilities of the authorities to resolve petty crimes and limited spreading of crime information to the community. The project specifically looks into the crime detection and prevention. This study aims to provide an overview of the investigative process and, in doing so, identify effective and efficient approaches to the investigation and detection of the volume of crimes. The review is particularly aimed to highlight the research evidence those investigative practices and actions that are likely to lead to a positive outcome. The development of software includes the process of brainstorming and planning, requirements analysis, system analysis and designs, implementation and testing, deployment, and maintenance. The criteria of evaluation of software quality were adapted in ISO/IEC 25010:20011. This also shows that distance is also a factor that influences greatly how crimes are being handled with many crimes going unreported as a result. Crime Management and Reporting System would really help the complainant and the authority to communicate privately and easily with regards to the reported issue. In addition, it would be easier for the complainant to report a witnessed crime without the fear of getting involved in the problems because of the security that the only authorized user can see the report. Based on the findings, the researchers recommend the following for further study: widening the limit of the system by considering other cities; a generic platform for keeping human records from birth till death, deploying this sort of platform will serve as a source of information on persons from various states within the country and even those outside. Verification using Biometric is highly recommended to enhance the security of data stored in the system. This increases the restriction on access to the system, thus unauthorized users have no access to the system. Face recognition technology can be added.

Zaprezentowano implementację systemu zarządzania dokumentami (DMS) przeznaczonego do nadzoru obiegu dokumentów generowanych podczas realizacji projektu PROTEUS. Jako podstawę do realizacji systemu wykorzystano oprogramowanie OpenKM Community instalowane pod systemem operacyjnym Windows Server 2003. Omówiono proces instalacji oraz konfiguracji serwera JBoss aplikacji Java. System zarządzania dokumentami DMS umożliwia dostęp rozproszonego zespołu konsorcjantów do zasobów informatycznych posadowionych w serwerze JBoss. Webowy interfejs użytkownika, zgodny ze specyfikację Web 2.0, powoduje, że nie jest wymagane instalowanie lokalnego oprogramowania klienckiego. Podkreślono bezpieczeństwo transferu danych pomiędzy serwerem i użytkownikami osiągnięte przez zaimplementowanie protokołu ssl wspomaganego wygenerowanym dla potrzeb systemu certyfikatem bezpieczeństwa oraz restrykcje przy nadawaniu praw dostępu. Omówiono wybrane elementy funkcjonalności systemu tak z pozycji użytkownika jak i administratora.
The implementation of the Document Management System (DMS) dedicated for the supervising of the documents' route, which are generated while realizing PROTEUS project, is presented. The base software for the system is the OpenKM Community installed under the Windows Server 2003 OS. The installation steps as well as the configuration process were discussed. Document Management System offers remote access to the IT resources, which are located in the JBoss server, dedicated for the scattered consortium team. The compliance of the web user interface with the Web2.0 specification causes there is no need to put in any local client software. It is emphasized, that the server-client data transfer security could be achieved thanks to ssl protocol implementation supported with the certificate which was created for the security reason and the restrictions while involving the users access. Some selected systems' features intended for users as well as for the administrator use were discussed.

The aim of the study was to analyze the impact of technical debt on projects goals achievement, considered from the perspective of software developing teams. The investigations are addressed to technical debt accumulation, difficulties related to its service and repaying. The most important stakeholders are identified on which the dechnical debt has an impact or which influence the technical debt accumulation. An interesting issue was to look at the debt from the inside in order to obtain views of members of the software developing teams. In order to obtain all the necessary information, a survey is conducted referred to the members of the software developing teams. The responses obtained from the survey concerns types of technical debt encountered, attitude, knowledge and approach to the debt. The article also shows that the lack of knowledge and awareness related to technical debt in teams affects the technical debt growth. The paper provides, based on SWOT analysis, solutions proposals that are designed to prevent dangerous situations resulting from technical debt.

The paper is aimed at presenting a model of transition from quality management systems to knowledge management systems in software developing organizations. The methodology focuses on presenting components of the model of transition from quality management systems to knowledge management systems. The paper defines the model of transition from the quality management systems conformable with series 9000 ISO international standards supplemented with ISO/IEC 90003:2004 to knowledge management systems. The model consists of four processes and five elements treated as the results of the process implementation. The paper demonstrates how quality system elements can be useful in the implementation of knowledge management system processes, such as localisation and the acquisition of knowledge.

The balance of gains and losses makes the computer one of the most significant inventions of the twentieth century, finding application in almost every area of life. The article attempts to present how the computer can facilitate the process of real estate management and how to use it effectively. In addition, the article proposes a concept of an integrated information system and discusses the advantages and disadvantages posed by the use of such solutions in an enterprise engaged in real estate management.

Background: Key Performance Indicators are a common way of quantitative monitoring of project progress in modern companies. Although they are widely used in practice, there is little evidence on how they are set, and how many of them are used in large product development projects. Goal: The goal of this paper is to explore how KPIs are used in practice in a large company. In particular, it is explored whether KPIs are used continuously or only during short, predefined periods of time. It is also explored whether software-related KPIs are reported differently from non-software-related KPIs. Method: A case study of 12 projects at the Volvo Car Group in Sweden was conducted. The data from the project progress reporting on tools was collected and triangulated with data from interviews conducted with experts from the company. Results: KPIs are reported mostly before the milestones and the manual assessment of their status is equally important as the automated data provision in the KPI reporting system. The trend of reporting software-related KPIs is very similar to the non-software-related KPIs. Conclusions: Despite the documented good practices of using KPIs for project monitoring, it is difficult to develop a clear status-picture solely using quantitative data from progress reporting tools. It was also shown that the trends in reporting the software-related KPIs are similar to the trends in reporting the non-software related KPIs.

The subject of this article is network management through web service calls, which allows software applications to exert an influence on network traffic. In this manner, software can make independent decisions concerning the direction of requests so that they can be served as soon as possible. This is important because only proper cooperation including all architecture layers can ensure the best performance, especially when software that largely depends on computer networks and utilizes them heavily is involved. To demonstrate that the approach described above is feasible and can be useful at the same time, this article presents a switch-level load balancer developed using OpenFlow. Client software communicates with the balancer through REST web service calls, which are used to provide information on current machine load and its ability to serve incoming requests. The result is a cheap, highly customizable and extremely fast load balancer with considerable potential for further development.

W artykule opisano próbę analizy zasadności wykorzystania informatycznych narzędzi wspierających zwinne zarządzanie projektami oraz określenia modelowych cech, którymi powinno charakteryzować się takie oprogramowanie, aby zaspokoić oczekiwania konkretnych członków zespołów projektowych w każdej fazie ich realizacji (koncepcyjnej, planowania, produkcji, testowania w fazie operacyjnej). Rozważania prowadzono, opierając się na wynikach pogłębionych wywiadów, przeprowadzonych wśród członków zespołów projektowych realizujących zadania w sektorze inżynierii oprogramowania.
In this paper we described an attempt of the analysis the legitimacy of the use of tools to support project management and to determine the characteristics of the model, which should have the tools to meet the needs of post-specific members project teams at every level of implementation (planning, design, production, testing and management). The data we used was collected by in-depth interviews conducted with members of the software engineering project teams.

Wytwarzanie oprogramowania to rynek, który w Polsce jest szacowany na 6 mld złotych. Duża dynamika i rozwój tej grupy projektów informatycznych sprawia, że przedsiębiorstwa szukają rozwiązań pozwalających budować długofalową przewagę konkurencyjną. Celem niniejszego artykułu jest analiza specyfiki projektów wytwarzania oprogramowania w odniesieniu do czynników wpływających na budowę przewagi konkurencyjnej. W pierwszej części omówiono specyfikę projektów wytwarzania oprogramowania. Następnie przedstawiono proces badań empirycznych oraz zaprezentowano uzyskane wyniki. Badania mają charakter pilotażowy i stanowią podstawę do kontynuacji badań nad podjętą problematyką badawczą.
Polish software development market is estimated at 6 billion PLN. This demanding and dynamic sector forces companies to look for solutions that allow building a long-term competitive advantage. The purpose of this article is to analyze the specificity of software development projects in relation to factors affecting the construction of competitive advantage. The first part of the article will discuss the specificity of software development projects. The empirical research process and the presentation of the results are presented in the next part. The results presented in the paper are regarded as pilot research and constitute the foundations for further research on these issues.

The number of data centers (DCs) used for storing and processing data has evolved rapidly in recent years. However, the operations held by DCs may relate to a number of disadvantages, primarily presuming in excessive energy and power consumption due to the poor management standards applied. This may lead to a situation in which many devices within the DC operate at full capacity without any tasks assigned for actual execution. A Software Defined Network (SDN) is a network architecture where the control plane is an independent entity from the data plane, yielding to a higher controllability and flexibility over the network. Through the utilization of SDN architecture, a highly functional energy aware network may be established. In this paper, we propose a heuristic algorithm that monitors the current status of an SDN network (in addition to all ingoing and outgoing traffic), in order to dynamically and efficiently allocate network resources by ensuring that only the necessary network devices are active and by turning the idle ones off. The results show that the proposed algorithm reduces energy consumption of the network compared to existing solutions.

The HR departments in IT companies usually define for their employees opportunities for promotion or retraining. This results from the goals to adapt workers’ skills to the company requirements on the one hand and the needs to meet the aspirations of employees on the other. The article focuses on the issue of developers transitions to the management positions, in particular that of the project manager. The study examines the issue of employee competencies definitions and careers building in IT companies. The studies present developers views on the competencies of project managers. The position of IT companies regarding soft skills of software developers and project managers is investigated based on published job offers. In the conclusions some proposals for HR departments and developers are given regarding transition from software developer to project management positions.

System pozwoli w sposób optymalny zarządzać infrastrukturą informatyczną Instytutu oraz efektywnie wykorzystywać czas pracowników IT.
The paper presents a range of functionality of a copyright application, the main objective of which was to create an information database and the database management system. The system was developed for the implementation of strategies to optimize sharing of resources stored in diverse databases operating at the Institute. The other functionality is optimal server power allocation for computing tasks performed by individual departments. The new software will allow the best use of available resources, combined with simultaneous environment optimization. It will make possible adaptation of the storage conditions to the new scientific knowledge databases created in research departments of the Foundry Research Institute.The system will enable optimum management of the Institute IT infrastructure and fully efficient use of the IT staff work time.

Ryzyko kreatywności dotyczy sytuacji, w których nie są osiągane zamierzone cele związane z kreatywnością lub występują niekorzystne skutki uboczne zastosowania metod kreatywności. W artykule dokonano systematyzacji tych zjawisk z wykorzystaniem wymiarów ukierunkowywania kreatywności i ujęto je w kategoriach zarządzania ryzykiem w projekcie. Wynikiem tych prac jest lista zagrożeń i czynników ryzyka kreatywności, która została zweryfikowana i udoskonalona w wyniku studiów przypadku występowania ryzyka kreatywności w projektach informatycznych.
Creativity risk appears when the goals related to creativity are not achieved or unwanted consequences of using creativity methods take place. This paper deals with creativity risk using dimensions of directed creativity and risk management categories. The results are the lists of threats and risk factors related to creativity. They have been validated and improved with case studies of creativity risk in seven diploma software projects.

Context: The Technical Debt metaphor has grown in popularity. More software is being created and has to be maintained. Agile methodologies, in particular Scrum, are widely used by development teams around the world. Estimation is an often practised step in sprint planning. The subject matter of this paper is the impact technical debt has on estimations. Objective: The goal of this research is to identify estimation problems and their solutions due to previously introduced technical debt in software projects. Method: The Systematic mapping study (SMS) method was applied in the research. Papers were selected from the popular digital databases (IEEE, ACM, Scopus, etc.) using defined search criteria. Afterwards, a snowballing procedure was performed and the final publication set was filtered using inclusion/exclusion criteria. Results: 42 studies were selected and evaluated. Five categories of problems and seven proposed solutions to the problems have been extracted from the papers. Problems include items related to business perspective (delivery pressure or lack of technical debt understanding by business decision-makers) and technical perspective (difficulties in forecasting architectural technical debt impact or limits of source code analysis). Solutions were categorized in: more sophisticated decision-making tools for business managers, better tools for estimation support and technical debt management tools on an architectural-level, portfolio approach to technical debt, code audit and technical debt reduction routine conducted every sprint. Conclusion: The results of this mapping study can help taking the appropriate approach in technical debt mitigation in organizations. However, the outcome of the conducted research shows that the problem of measuring technical debt impact on estimations has not yet been solved. We propose several directions for further investigation. In particular, we would focus on more sophisticated decision-making tools.

The aim of the article is to present the neglected issue of creativity in organi-zations in Poland in the context of the knowledge workers’ environment. For instance, software development processes demonstrated the possibilities of expanding functional flow with creative problem solving (CPS) operations. Also, there were presented empiri-cal works and creative techniques used, which contributed to finding new and unique problem solutions. The text can be a theoretical background for undertaking empirical research in the field of creativity in the organization and contribute to filling knowledge gaps in Polish literature on creativity in knowledge-based organizations.
Celem artykułu jest przedstawienie pomijanego w literaturze zagadnienia kreatywności w organizacjach w Polsce w kontekście otoczenia pracowników wiedzy. Na przykładzie procesów tworzenia oprogramowania zademonstrowano możliwości rozszerzenia przepływu funkcjonalnego o kreatywne rozwiązywanie problemów CPS (Creative Problem Solving). Przedstawiono również prace empiryczne oraz wykorzystane w nich techniki kreatywne, które przyczyniły się do znalezienia nowych i unikalnych rozwiązań problemu. Tekst może stanowić teoretyczne zaplecze dla podjęcia badań empirycznych w dziedzinie kreatywności w organizacji oraz przyczynić się do wypełnienia niedoborów wiedzy w polskiej literaturze o kreatywności w organizacji opartej na wiedzy.

Using agile methods during the implementation of the system that meets mission critical requirements can be a real challenge. The change in the system built of dozens or even hundreds of specialized devices with embedded software requires the cooperation of a large group of engineers. This article presents a solution that supports parallel work of groups of system analysts and software developers. Deployment of formal rules to the requirements written in natural language enables using formal analysis of artifacts being a bridge between software and system requirements. Formalism and textual form of requirements allowed the automatic generation of message flow graph for the (sub) system, called the “big-picture-model”. Flow diagram analysis helped to avoid a large number of defects whose repair cost in extreme cases could undermine the legitimacy of agile methods in projects of this scale. Retrospectively, a reduction of technical debt was observed. Continuous analysis of the “big picture model” improves the control of the quality parameters of the software architecture. The article also tries to explain why the commercial platform based on UML modeling language may not be sufficient in projects of this complexity.

Celem artykułu jest analiza tych specyficznych systemów zarządzania wiedzą w projektach wytwarzania oprogramowania działających na terenie Polski. Autorzy zdecydowali przyjrzeć się istotności wiedzy oraz zinwentaryzować tę przestrzeń w ujęciu narzędziowo- -procesowym.
Software development projects are one of the most dominant subcategories of IT projects. Universal tools and processes rarely fulfill their role in this type of initiatives. This is due to the specificity of the product itself and a dynamic, competitive environment. The purpose of this article is to analyze knowledge management systems in software development projects implemented in Poland. The authors decided to look at the significance of knowledge and make inventory of existing tools and processes.

The article shows the possible ways of use of federated database technologies in data management in the logistic chains of companies. The architectures and components of software for creating the federated systems and some suggestions for the architecture of data management information systems for companies are presented in the text. The mentioned solution stands a proposal to resolve the difficult problem of cooperation between the computer information systems in companies, which refers to making the data of company available to the external users and managing data in the logistic chain. This paper addresses issues associated with the global optimization algorithms, which are methods to find optimal solutions for given problems. It focuses on an integrated software environment - global optimization object-oriented library (GOOL), which provides the graphical user interface together with the library of solvers for convex and nonconvex, unconstrained and constrained problems. We describe the design, performance and possible applications of the GOOL system. W artykule przedstawiono analizę możliwości stosowania specjalizowanego oprogramowania inżynierskiego do wspomagania analizy i zarządzania ryzykiem w produkcji rolnej. Opisano problematykę ryzyka w produkcji rolnej i w usługach związanych z rolnictwem, przedstawiono poszczególne fazy zarządzania ryzykiem. Następnie dokonano przeglądu możliwości wykorzystania oprogramowania komputerowego do wspomagania zarządzania ryzykiem produkcji rolnej. Stwierdzono występowanie interesujących systemów komputerowych do zarządzania niektórymi rodzajami ryzyka oraz brak kompleksowego podejścia do wspomagania zarządzania ryzykiem.
The paper presents the preliminary results of the study on software application to risk management in agriculture. The subsequent phases of risk management process were introduced, the problem of agricultural production risk and of sources as well as the methods and tools of their limitation were described. Next a review was made on the possibilities of software application for management risk support in agriculture. Very interesting software systems dedicated to some kind of agricultural production risk were noticed, but no integrated (holistic) approach to the problem of risk in agricultural production was confirmed.

W firmach informatycznych cały czas poszukiwane są efektywne metody rozwoju oprogramowania. Zwykle te podejścia dostosowywane są do rodzaju prac związanych z rozwojem oprogramowania. Do najbardziej popularnych należą podejście zwinne (agile), szczupłe (lean) i proaktywne (klasyczne). W opracowaniu poddana zostanie ocenie metodyka łącząca w sposób synergetyczny podejście zwinne (agile) i podejście szczupłe (lean). Reprezentantami tych podejść są Scrum i Kanban. W wyniku tej oceny zostaną zaproponowane optymalne rozwiązania dla zespołów rozwijających oprogramowanie. Przedstawiony zostanie przykład studialny (case study) użycia rozwiązania łączącego podejście zwinne i szczupłe.
IT companies are constantly looking for effective methods of software development. Typically, these approaches are tailored to the type of software development work. The most popular are the agile, lean and proactive (classic) approaches. The study will assess the methodology that synergistically combines the agile and lean approaches. Representatives of these approaches are Scrum and Kanban. As a result of this assessment, optimal solutions for software development teams will be proposed. A case study of using a solution combining agile and lean approaches will be presented.

The paper contains an assessment of the usability of the previously proposed model of transition from quality management systems to knowledge management systems in software developing organisations for the purpose of establishing KMS elements (solely for knowledge localisation and acquisition processes). The assessment of usability is made in relation to quality management systems conformable with the ISO 9001:2000 supplemented by ISO/ IEC 90003:2004.

Celem niniejszej pracy jest charakterystyka zarządzania wiedzą w organizacji w podejściu kontekstowym. Spersonalizowany kokpit menedżerski został przedstawiony jako narzędzie wspierają ce zarządzanie wiedzą i poprawiające wydajność organizacji. Ponadto wskazano rolę personalizacji w podejściu kontekstowym na przy-kładzie portalu korporacyjnego. Autorzy zaprezentowali kilka rodzajów kontekstów kokpitu menedżerskiego związanych z poziomem zarządzania, specyfiką użytkownika, danymi, wykorzystywanym oprogramowaniem i sprzętem.
The aim of this paper is characterization of knowledge management in organization in context approach. Personalized dashboard has been presented as a tool of knowledge management and performance improvement. Also role of personalization in the context approach on the example of the corporate portal has been indicated. Authors for personalized dashboard specified a few kinds of contexts connected with management level, user specificity, data, software and hardware.

The aim of the paper is to present the current state of cloud computing solutions application in the management of a contemporary business organization. The author outlined such theoretical aspects of cloud computing solutions as its key concept and architecture, and the benefits resulting from its implementation in contemporary companies and enterprises. The article presents the vendor perspective of cloud computing services utilization in business organizations prepared on the basis of case studies, practical examples and an international research review. The research presenting the user perspective on cloud computing usage was based on the opinions of 100 respondents of cloud computing services and indicated the pros and cons resulting from the implementation and application of this solution which allowed to indicate not only its benefits but also its limitations.

W artykule przedstawiono prace nad modyfikacją oprogramowania użytkowego bazy JBDG w celu aktualizacji zbiorów bazy danych JBDG danymi „uzupełniającymi”. Programy weryfikujące zbiory JBDG stanowią istotną grupę oprogramowania użytkowego bazy, zapewniając poprawność zawartych w nich danych oraz powiązań pomiędzy zbiorami. Istotnymi informacjami wprowadzanymi do bazy danych są tzw. dane „uzupełniające”. Dotyczą one różnych grup danych, związanych ze sobą tematycznie. Programy weryfikujące mają zapewnić specjalne kontrole oraz właściwe wyszukiwanie i operowanie danymi.
The article presents works on the modification of the JBDG database application software in order to update the JBDG database files with „supplementary” data. JBDG files verification programs constitute an important group of the database application software, ensuring the correctness of the data contained in them and the links between the files. Important information entered into the database are the so-called „supplementary” data. They concern various groups of data related thematically. Verification programs are designed to provide special controls and proper retrieval as well as manipulation of data.

In recent years project management has become a complex and diverse field of scientific research. It embodies a number of specific tools and techniques, choice of which to particular project is far from being obvious, especially for the beginners. Such situation rationalizes efforts aiming at the development of methods of training, which are more efficient than the “trial-and-error” approach. In this context the paper presents a web application that simulates real life scenarios and allows for developing skills, among others, in identifying the needed/available resources against the dynamically changing goals. The platform teaches the agile approach to project management with Scrum and gives an opportunity to “materialize” the progress made by users with an original piece of software. The prototype of the web application has been successfully tested at Cardinal Stefan Wyszynski University.
