Opis:
Readiness and reliability is a special attribute of rescue systems (army, police, fire service), where performance at the highest level is more important than economic efficiency. For this reason, special attention is given to the process of renewal of technical objects. In such systems, a preventive strategy is most often used. Though this is a safe model, it does not always take into account the specifics of the use of a technical object. Moreover, in some situations, it forces the end of life of a device that could still continue to operate as intended. The article analyzes precisely such technical objects, removed from operation after just 10 years of use. It was shown that such approach is not justified and that modern management strategies must be implemented also in relation to machinery and equipment operating in rescue systems. The most important achievements of the article are the use of reliability analysis methods in the systems where it is not common, and the indication of the benefits of such analysis. It has been shown that knowing the characteristics of reliability, you can consciously control each process and make decisions in this regard based on the technical condition of the facility and not on instructions. In the case under study, this would make it possible to undermine the decision to withdraw the analyzed objects from operation.

Opis:
Flight safety, which characterizes the aviation industry, is an important element that contributes to increasing the trust of customers and passengers. The aforementioned factor closely corresponds to the reliability of aircraft and their individual components, including power units. Over one hundred years of development of aviation techniques has led aviation to the currently observed level of safety and reliability. Aviation techniques should be understood as technologies as well as local and global regulations affecting individual branches of the industry. Guidelines No. 9 of the President of Polish Civil Authority of August 29, 2016 on the inter-repair periods of piston engines, indicate the possibility of waiving the requirements related to the performance of major repairs, and a number of conditions must be met. One of the requirements set out in the Guidelines is performing a spectrographic analysis of engine oil in order to estimate the rate of wear of individual engine parts (ULC, 2016). The main goal of this study was to recognize whether regular analysis of engine oil may affect the assessment of the technical condition of aircraft piston engines based on the example of ROTAX 912S, thus affecting or not influencing the maintenance intervals. The engines referred to in the research were produced in the amount of about 2,000 units. Thus, these engines gained popularity as power units for airplanes, helicopters, and gyroplanes. With the increasing number of ROTAX units introduced into service, research into the technical condition becomes more important due to their percentage share in the market.

Problem bezpieczeństwa w systemach produkcyjnych Przemysłu 4.0 ma charakter wielowymiarowy. Nowe technologie generują nowe rodzaje zagrożeń, ale jednocześnie umożliwiają budowę bardziej efektywnych systemów bezpieczeństwa. Systemy LOTO to zbiór specjalnych procedur i praktyk mających na celu ochronę pracowników przed energią uwalnianą przez pracujące maszyny lub zagrożeniami występującymi podczas bieżących czynności obsługowych. Celem badań było opracowanie wytycznych i materiałów szkoleniowych wspierających wdrażanie procedur LOTO w Przemyśle 4.0. Wymagało to przeprowadzenia analizy 5 wybranych inteligentnych systemów produkcyjnych Przemysłu 4.0 w celu identyfikacji zagrożeń, które mogą wystąpić podczas prac konserwacyjnych. Analizowane były systemy produkcyjne takie jak maszyny współpracujące bezpośrednio z operatorem, automatyka przemysłowa sterowana za pośrednictwem IoT, systemy produkcyjne wykorzystujące algorytmy sztucznej inteligencji itp. Opracowane wytyczne i materiały szkoleniowe zostały zweryfikowane podczas szkolenia pilotażowego. W ankietach dotyczących wytycznych i materiałów szkoleniowych znalazły się wypowiedzi dotyczące ich zawartości, użyteczności oraz kompleksowości i kompletności. W ankiecie wykorzystano 5-punktową skalę Likerta. Następnie dokonano oceny wskaźnika ważności treści określając I_CVI i S-CVI. Do oceny istotności statystycznej wybrano test parametryczny wartości średniej jednej zmiennej z prawostronną hipotezą alternatywną t-studenta. Wyznaczono również prawdopodobieństwo testowe p-value. Opracowane wytyczne wraz z materiałami szkoleniowymi stanowią podstawę do wdrażania systemu LOTO w przedsiębiorstwie.
The problem of safety in Industry 4.0 production systems is multidimensional. New technologies generate new types of hazards, but at the same time make it possible to build more effective safety systems. LOTO systems are a set of special procedures and practices designed to protect workers from energy released by running machinery or hazards that occur during ongoing maintenance activities. The goal of the research was to develop guidelines and training materials to support the implementation of LOTO procedures in Industry 4.0. This required analyzing 5 selected Industry 4.0 intelligent manufacturing systems to identify hazards that may occur during maintenance operations. Production systems such as machines that work directly with the operator, industrial automation controlled via the Internet of Things, production systems using artificial intelligence algorithms, etc. were analyzed. The developed guidelines and training materials were verified during the pilot training. Surveys of the guidelines and training materials included statements regarding their content, usability and and comprehensiveness and completeness. The survey used a 5-point Likert scale. The content validity index was then evaluated by determining the I-CVI and the S-CVI. A parametric test of the mean value of one variable with a right-sided alternative hypothesis of t-student was chosen to assess statistical significance. A p-value test probability was also determined. The developed guidelines, with training materials, form the basis for implementing the LOTO system at the enterprise.

This article presents an economic analysis of the exploitation of the main mine drainage according to the condition of machines. The study is based on actual operating data obtained during the operation of an underground hard coal mine. Through the selection of state estimators, appropriate sensory systems, as well as a long-term economic approach, operating procedures were developed that allowed for the introduction of significant financial savings. Operating costs are reduced by lowering energy consumption and reducing the costs of current repairs and spare parts. In addition to the classic approach to monitoring the state of a machine, based on the observation of residual processes, a global coefficient, referred to as unit energy consumption, has been proposed. Thanks to this, the operation of the machine occurs not only on the basis of its current dynamic state, but also due to the control processes of the machine’s operation. Moreover, the article refers to the area related to water safety and the reliability of the pumping station.

Due to rheological properties of salt rock mass, maintenance of mine excavations, including shafts may be very challenging, especially in the long term. Many different ideas and approaches to a subject of sinking and maintaining a shaft in salt rock mass have emerged over the years, of which the main directions include two opposite ideas, such as an application of high-strength lining and an approach based on flexible lining. The article presents a shaft reaming machine designed for maintenance of mine shafts located in salt rock mass designed with a flexible shaft lining approach.

Opis:
The process of describing human activities in procedures has been used since the beginning of the 20th century. However, it is increasingly evident that procedures understood as sets of orders and prohibitions can be counter-productive because they do not allow the proper use of employees’ knowledge and experience. Therefore, it is postulated that guidelines for practice should be co-developed by employees from the ‘sharp end’ of the organization, but there are no simple methods that can achieve this aim. In the present work, we propose a procedure based on sticky notes, inspired by how information technology teams function. We present a description of the original sticky notes method (SNM) and demonstrate its application in the railway sector. As a result of the workshops conducted with the participation of experts, we gained knowledge about practices that were not included in the documentation, but that could significantly improve the process under research. The primary purpose of the SNM is to ensure the involvement of employees in the process of creating guidelines for practice. This method is particularly useful for describing linear processes in which activities can be arranged chronologically.

Opis:
The aim of the article is to develop a method for the analysis of tram dynamics related to safety during operation. To achieve this, a mathematical model of the vehicle represented by a multibody simulation MBS system is used. Models of tram with a classic and innovative drive, based on a system of independently rotating wheels on crank axles are analyzed. A new configuration of an innovative drive control of the considered vehicle with the use of braking of independent wheels is proposed. A new geometry of test track is presented. During numerical investigation the values of ‘Y’ leading forces of tram wheels with the considered innovative drive proved to be lower than in the corresponding vehicle with standard wheelsets. It has been demonstrated that the active control systems are of key importance and should be applied in such innovative tram drives.

The Bearingless Switched Reluctance Motor (BSRM) is a new technology motor, which overcomes the problems of maintenances required associated with mechanical contacts and lubrication of rotor shaft effectively. In addition, it also improves the output power developed and rated speed. Hence, the BSRM can achieve high output power and super high speed with less size and cost. It has a considerable ripple in the net-torque due to its critical non-linearity and the salient pole structures of both stator and rotor poles. The resultant torque ripple, especially in these motors, causes the more vibrations and acoustic noises will affects the levitated rotor safety also. Practically at high-speed operations, the accurate measurement of the rotor position is complicated for conventional mechanical sensors. A new square currents control with global sliding mode control based sensorless torque observer is proposed to minimize the torque ripple and achieve a smooth, robust operation without using any mechanical sensors. The proposed controller is designed based on the error between the reference and measured torque values. The sliding mode torque observer measures the torque from the actual phase voltages, currents, and look-up tables. The simulation model has been modelled to validate the proposed methodology. From the simulation outputs, it is clear that the reduction of torque ripple by the proposed method shows improved than the conventional sliding mode controller. The overall system is more robust to the external disturbances, and it also gets efficient torque profile.

The maintenance system is a key system that provides continuity and safety of the operation of production systems and that affects the safety of people working in these systems. At the same time, the maintenance system is a set of work processes carried out by people under specific environmental conditions, using specific equipment and within a specific organizational and management structure. The purpose of this article is to identify the main management factors that affect occupational safety and to rank these factors in terms of their effectiveness in ensuring safe maintenance, using the grey systems theory. Based on the literature analysis, 12 key management factors were identified and then subjected to expert assessment. In order to rank the factors, a decision model based on the grey systems theory (GST), i.e. systems with incomplete and uncertain information about structure and behavior, was developed and verified. The use of GST in the area of ensuring safety in maintenance is original. The findings of the article will be very useful for managers in implementing safe maintenance systems in various sectors of the economy.

The maintenance system is one of the key systems in the industry, because it ensures the continuity of work and the safety of the production systems. The maintenance system includes a set of specific activities carried out by people in various environmental conditions, with the use of appropriate equipment and within a specific organizational and management structure. Activities carried out by maintenance workers are related to the occurrence of various types of physical, chemical, biological or psychosocial risks. These dangers can lead to accidents or occupational diseases. Therefore, the task of managers within maintenance systems is to provide people working in these systems with an appropriate level of safety through the use of properly selected preventive measures. The methods of safety analysis are related to the examination of various systems in order to identify and assess the risks in these systems and to prepare the safety characteristics of these systems, which allows for the correct adjustment of preventive measures to the identified needs. The purpose of this work is to present the basic methods of Safety Analysis in terms of their possible use in the area of industrial maintenance. As part of the work, the hazards at work in maintenance were characterized, the importance of safety analysis for the identification of hazards and accident prevention was discussed, and the key methods of safety analysis were presented in terms of their possible use to improve work safety in an industrial maintenance system. The presented considerations are original. The findings of the article will be very useful for management in implementing safe maintenance systems in industry.

Maritime safety involves minimizing error in all aspects of the marine system. Human error has received much importance, being responsible for about 80% of the maritime accident worldwide. Currently, more attention has been focused to reduce human error in marine engine maintenance. On-board marine engine maintenance activities are often complex, where seafarers conduct maintenance activities in various marine environmental (i.e. extreme weather, ship motions, noise, and vibration) and operational (i.e. work overload and stress) conditions. These environmental and operational conditions, in combination with generic human error tendencies, results in innumerable forms of error. There are numerous accidents that happened due to the human error during the maintenance activities of a marine engine. The most severe human error results in accidents due to is a loss of life. Moreover, there are other consequences too such as delaying the productivity of marine operations which results in the financial loss. This study reviews methods that are currently available for identifying, reporting and managing human error in marine engine maintenance. As a basis for this discussion, authors provide an overview of approaches for investigating human error, and a description of marine engine maintenance activities and environmental and operational characteristics.

Sidewalks play a very important role in the dynamism maintenance as well as the development of cities especially historic cities. To ensure the maintaining service quality of sidewalks, the first step is to prevent distress occurrence, thereafter repair the distress that occurred in the sidewalks. In historic cities, the lack of suitable sidewalks for walking led to the gradual elimination of pedestrians. Yazd is a historic city recorded as a world heritage site by UNESCO, which attracts many tourists from all over the world every year. Therefore, preserving the quality of sidewalks in this city is of great importance. In this research, the SCI method was used to investigate the condition of the sidewalks in the studied area. This method is similar to the pavement condition index (PCI) method. The results showed that the condition of sidewalks in the studied area is in the range of 55-70, which is relative.

There is a number of ports where approach or inside navigation channels are located close to the quay walls. In difficult hydrometeorological conditions appropriate speed of ship is needed to keep proper ship’s steering while passing through channel. The ships that pass near the quay walls with high speed create high interaction forces on moored ships and negatively interact on their mooring equipment and quay walls. Ports should ensure relevant maintenance and reliability of quay walls and ships’ mooring equipment. That is why investigation of the ships interaction forces during ship passing near the ships moored to quay walls is very important to find limitations of the passing ship speed depending on passing ship’s parameters, distances and environmental conditions to provide reliable maintenance of navigation channel. In the article the conditions of dynamic forces caused by passing ships are investigated, including possible external forces influencing on moored ships, mooring equipment and quay walls. The methodology to assess the forces exerted on ship moored to quay wall by ship passing close to them is created. On the basis of the case study analysis results, the recommendations for the limitations to ships passing near the ships moored to quay walls were proposed that will allow providing relevant maintenance and reliability of navigation channel and its infrastructure.
Istnieje wiele portów, w których tory podejściowe lub wewnętrzne kanały nawigacyjne znajdują się obok ścian nabrzeży. W trudnych warunkach hydrometeorologicznych należy utrzymywać odpowiednią prędkość statku, aby zapewnić jego prawidłowe sterowanie podczas przemieszczania się przez kanał. Statki, które przepływają z dużą prędkością w pobliżu ścian nabrzeży, wywierają duże siły na zacumowane jednostki i negatywnie oddziałują na urządzenia cumownicze statków i ściany nabrzeży. Porty powinny zapewniać należyte utrzymanie oraz niezawodność ścian nabrzeży i urządzeń cumowniczych statków cumowanych przy nabrzeżach. W związku z tym ważne jest zbadanie sił interakcji podczas przemieszczania się statku w pobliżu jednostek przycumowanych przy nabrzeżu, aby znaleźć ograniczenia prędkości przepływającego statku w zależności od jego parametrów, odległości i warunków środowiskowych, co pozwoli zapewnić niezawodną eksploatację kanału nawigacyjnego. W artykule zbadane są uwarunkowania sił dynamicznych wywieranych przez przepływające statki, w tym możliwe siły zewnętrzne, które wpływają na zacumowane jednostki, urządzenia cumownicze i ściany nabrzeży. Opracowano metodologię oszacowania sił wywieranych na statek przycumowany przy nabrzeżu przez przepływającą obok jednostkę. Na podstawie wyników analizy studium przypadku zaproponowano zalecenia dotyczące ograniczeń w odniesieniu do statków przepływających w pobliżu statków przycumowanych przy nabrzeżu, które pozwolą zapewnić należytą eksploatację i niezawodność kanału nawigacyjnego i jego infrastruktury.

The article discusses the problem of choosing the optimal frequency of functional tests, taking into account the reliability and law requirements, but also the impact of business aspects in the company. The subject of functional test interval is well described for purposes of the process industry. Unfortunately, this is not the case for the machinery safety functions with low demand mode. This is followed by a presentation of the current business approach, which, in order to achieve industrial excellence, monitor their performance through the appropriate selection of key performance indicators. In addition, companies are increasingly exploring potential risks in the following areas: new challenges in advanced risk management, including the perception of the company’s facilities as a safe workplace insight of customers and business partners. Eliminating potential hazards is increasingly taking into account, especially the impact of human activity and its interaction with machines. The case study has been presented based on the machines used for the production of tire semi-finished products. In this article, the authors propose a solution for selecting the interval of functional tests of safety functions and additional machine protection measures as a compromise to achieve satisfactory results in terms of safety requirements, performance and legal requirements.
