Opis:
In this study, different flowsheet options were evaluated to achieve the best upgrading conditions for a micaceous iron oxide ore. The first option included the recovery of micaceous iron oxide particles using a double stage magnetic separation circuit after the grinding and classifying of the ore into coarse (-1000+106 μm) and fine (-106 μm) size fractions. A belt type dry high gradient magnetic separator (BHGMS) was used to beneficiate the coarse fraction. The concentrate of the BHGMS was ground to -106 μm, and combined with the fine fraction produced at screening stage, and subjected to high gradient magnetic separation (HGMS) at 1.2 T. A concentrate grading about 61.33% Fe with 60.3% recovery was obtained applying the separation process incorporating BHGMS and HGMS. A single stage separation circuit considering the use of HGMS after the grinding the ore below 106 μm was employed as the second concentration option. A concentrate having 63.80% Fe with 37.1% weight recovery was obtained in this test. As the highest Fe grade and the lowest S concentration was obtained by application of HGMS after the grinding the ore below 106 μm, and it was decided to conduct a pilot scale study using pulsating HGMS. A concentrate assaying 69.45% Fe with 60.1% weight recovery was produced by operating the pulsating HGMS at 0.6 T. The results showed that it was possible to obtain a micaceous iron oxide concentrate to be used in pigment production using magnetic separation method.

Opis:
For unambiguous identification of products of nuclear reactions by the (TOF-?E) method, it is necessary to know exactly the magnetic field distributions, the 3D field map for the entire working area of separator. The possibility of the field reconstruction inside the total volume surrounded by the closed surface, on which the magnetic measurements are performed, is demonstrated in this paper. Distributions of the measured magnetic field components of the magnets, forming the magnetic structure of the separator, as well as the respective reconstructed fields together with the estimated reconstruction errors, are presented. Precise simulation of particle trajectories inside the separator becomes possible as a result of this work

The paper deals with the magnetic system of the disk separator with permanent magnets. It is shown that the developed magnetic system can be used to purify finely dispersed friable substances from unwanted ferromagnetic inclusions. The main advantage of the magnetic system is the ability to self-clean the surface of a non-magnetic rotating discharging disk. The research of the distribution of the force function acting on multi-domain ferromagnetic particles in the working zone of the disk separator was carried out. To solve the main tasks of the study, a finite element method was implemented, realized in the COMSOL Multiphysics software environment. It is shown that when changing the air gap or the effective length of the poles, the distribution of the force function over the height of the working zone, as well as the magnitude of force, varies. The rational size of the air interpolar gap, which provides the maximum value of power force, was determined.

Opis:
Studying the dynamic behavior of magnetic particle suspensions in the low intensity magnetic separator has important implications for various mineral beneficiation processes. A new approach for fully coupled multi-physics modeling of the dynamic behavior of multi-type magnetic particles (MTMPs) is developed in the study. In this model, the particle tracing module is employed to identify and determine individual particle trajectories in the fluid and magnetic field, which are modelled through the COMSOL Multiphysics. The results show that the different arrangements of the permanent magnet assembly and the volume percentage of interlocked particles affect the dynamic behavior of MTMPs and the efficiency of the separation. The model is compared with experiments and the particle capture theory and the correctness of the solution obtained from COMSOL is demonstrated. The model gives new possibilities to control, optimise, and develop the process of LIMS.

The demand for feldspar as a raw material for various industrial applications continuously increases. Feldspar is a primary raw material in manufacturing ceramics, glass, fillers, welding electrodes, and enamel. Feldspar is often associated with iron oxide, which decreases its economic value and hinders its industrial application. The present work aimed at reducing iron oxide content in Egyptian feldspar ore from the Wadi Zerabi locality. Ball milling was used for preparing feldspar feed of size -250+45μm. Carpco dry high-intensity magnetic separation followed by acid leaching processes were carried out in order to decrease the iron contamination and increase the feldspar content. A Box-Behnken statistical design was used to optimize the magnetic separation results. From a feldspar feed containing 1.40% Fe2O3, a non-magnetic concentrate of 0.25% Fe2O3 was obtained. The Fe2O3 removal reached up to 82% with a high yield as the % weight of non-magnetic feldspar reached up to 97.5%. The leaching process further reduced the iron oxide content down to 0.19 %. Also, the feldspar whiteness was improved from 65.17% in the original ore to 85.60% in the leached product.

Separatory magnetyczne bębnowe stanowią najbardziej rozpowszechniony typ separatorów stosowanych w procesach wzbogacania rud magnetytowych oraz regeneracji cieczy zawiesinowych w układach wzbogacania grawitacyjnego w cieczach zawiesinowych. Efekty wzbogacania są zależne od szeregu czynników, takich jak: wydajność separatora, zawartość części stałych w zawiesinie, natężenie pola magnetycznego w przestrzeni roboczej separatora, prędkość obrotowa bębna, uziarnienie nadawy oraz rozkład właściwości magnetycznych w nadawie. Ze względu na zjawisko flokulacji magnetycznej dla uzyskania produktów o określonej jakości stosuje się wielokrotne separacje czyszczące lub uzupełniające. W artykule wyznaczono charakterystykę przestrzeni roboczej separatora magnetycznego w postaci rozkładu pola magnetycznego i siły magnetycznej działającej na ziarno, określono optymalną wartość podziałki biegunów układu magnetycznego separatora. Z bilansu sił wyliczono wartość magnetycznej podziałowej przy wzbogacaniu na sucho oraz zawartość magnetytu w ziarnach podziałowych. Dla przeprowadzenia analizy rozdziału opracowano model wielokrotnego wzbogacenia w procesie ciągłym, uzyskując na jego podstawie ogólne wyrażenie na uzysk ziaren magnetycznych w produkcie magnetycznym po kilkukrotnych separacjach uzupełniających produktu niemagnetycznego oraz zależność zawartości składnika magnetycznego w produkcie niemagnetycznym od długości drogi separacji w pojedynczym stadium. Wykorzystując empiryczną zależność składnika magnetycznego w produkcie niemagnetycznym od liczby obrotów bębna, wyznaczono na podstawie modelu zależność stałej prędkości separacji składnika magnetycznego od liczby obrotów bębna.
Drum magnetic separators constitute the most common type of separators applied in the magnetic ore enrichment processes and in dense-medium recovery in the systems of gravitational enrichment in heavy medium suspensions. The separation effects depend on many factors, such as separator efficiency, content of solid parts in the suspension, magnetic field intensity in the separator working space, drum rotational speed, feed particle size and distribution of magnetic properties in the feed. Due to the phenomenon of magnetic flocculation, multiple cleaning or supplementing separations are used to obtain products of fixed quality. In the paper, by means of solving Laplace's equation in the polar system (Eqs 1 and 2), the author determined the characteristics of the working space in the magnetic separator in the form of magnetic field distribution (Eqs 9 and 13) and magnetic force acting upon the particle (Eqs 15a and 15b), determined the optimum value of pole pitch of the separator magnetic system (Eq 23). The dependence of pole pitch on particle size for two values of the drum radius was presented in Fig. 3. The value of magnetic separation susceptibility at dry enrichment was calculated from the force balance together with the content of magnetite in separation particles (Eqs 27 and 29, respectively). The model of multiple separation in the continuous process was elaborated in order to execute the separation analysis, obtaining a general expression for the recovery of magnetic particles in the magnetic products after several supplementing separations of the non-magnetic product (Eq 42) as well as the dependence of the content of magnetic component in the non-magnetic product upon the length of separation path in a single stage (Eq 50). In equation (42) and (50) denotes the separation rate constant of magnetic particles. Applying the empirical dependence of content of the magnetic component in the non-magnetic product upon the number of drum rotations the author, according to the model, determined the dependence of separation rate constant of the magnetic components upon the number of drum rotations. Figure 8 presents this dependence. The analysis of separation, presented in this article, is based upon heuristic considerations. Magnetic interactions between particles should be taken into account when calculating the dependence of the separation rate constant of the magnetic component upon the process efficiency. On the other hand, in order to determine the dependence of the separation rate constant upon the number of drum rotations, the separation process should be considered as a birth and death stochastic process in the continuous separation system.
