    W artykule zaprezentowano podstawowe zagadnienia związane z tworzeniem strategii ponadregionalnej na przykładzie Polski Zachodniej. Dokument strategiczny poświęcony Polsce Zachodniej jest odpowiedzią na zmieniającą się politykę spójności Unii Europejskiej i nowy okres programowania 2014-2020. Założeniem inicjatywy jest określenie wspólnych priorytetów rozwojowych obszaru Polski Zachodniej, które powinny być zgodne z wyzwaniami polityki spójności Unii Europejskiej, jak również z zasadami polskiej polityki regionalnej. W pierwszej części opracowania omówiono uwarunkowania wynikające z zapisów Strategii „Europa 2020” i polskich dokumentów programowych o horyzoncie czasowym do 2020 roku. Następnie przestawiono koncepcję i założenia budowy strategii makroregionalnej.
    This article presents the main issues referring to creation of a supra-regional strategy on the example of western Poland. The strategic document devoted to Western Poland is a response to the changing European Union's cohesion policy and the new programming period 2014-2020. The objective of the initiative is to define common priorities for development of Western Poland, which should be in line with the aims of the EU Cohesion Policy as well as with the principles of the Polish Regional Policy. It is in the first part of this paper that the conditions resulting from the Strategy "Europe 2020" and the Polish Program Documents for the time horizon till 2020 were considered. Then, the assumptions and the concept behind construction of the macro-regional strategy were presented.

    Opis:
    Purpose: To present the results of consumer research in terms of the self-reported levels of recognition, sourcing, self-preparation and consumption of certain types of fermented food products in Polish households and to investigate the traditions of making these products at home in two macro-regions. Design/methodology/approach: Recognition of products, household consumption habits, sourcing of products (RHS) in Northern and Eastern Poland were explored. On-line questionnaire survey was conducted in households located in these macro-regions (n = 600). Data were analysed with Statistica 13.1 PL software, which included descriptive statistics and Chi-squared χ2 test. Findings: Pickled cucumbers and sauerkraut were the most recognized fermented vegetable products. These products are rooted in the culinary tradition of the households surveyed. Regional differences in terms of consumption, commitment to culinary heritage, engagement with traditional production at home and openness to new market propositions were observed. The region and place of residence influence the consumption of pickles, as well as related behaviours, customs and culinary traditions. Research limitations/implications: The use of a convenience sampling method limits the conclusions and the generalisability of the results. The findings have theoretical implications as they bring new knowledge about consumer behaviour that is mediated by home heritage and tradition, and region of origin. Practical implications: The results can be a starting point for food promotion agencies and for importers of ethnic food. The regional differences should be taken into account by food business operators. Originality/value: There has been little empirical study on the subject. The designed RHS model can be replicated in further research.

    Celem prezentowanych badań było określenie roli Uniwersytetu Warmińsko-Mazurskiego w procesach kształtowania makroregionu funkcjonalnego aglomeracji olsztyńskiej. Za główne kryterium delimitacji przyjęto zasięg funkcji edukacyjnych olsztyńskiej uczelni. Wykorzystano do tego dane dotyczące pochodzenia kandydatów na studia w UWM zarejestrowanych w trakcie procedury rekrutacyjnej w latach 2011 i 2012. W pracy dokonano także analizy wpływu wybranych czynników na wielkość obszaru przestrzennego oddziaływania olsztyńskiej uczelni. Na podstawie przeprowadzonych badań można stwierdzić, że oprócz obszaru województwa warmińsko-mazurskiego makroregion funkcjonalny aglomeracji olsztyńskiej obejmuje także sąsiadujące z nim gminy województw podlaskiego i mazowieckiego.
    The aim of the present research is to describe the role of the Warmia and Mazury University in the formation of the functional macroregion in the Olsztyn agglomeration. The main criterion used to delimitate the macroregion of Olsztyn is the range of educational services of the biggest university in Warmia and Mazury. The authors use data relating to the place of living of the candidates who registered during the recruitment process in 2011 and 2012. They also analyze the impact of selected factors on the size of the area of Olsztyn university’s spatial influence. The research results show that the functional macroregion of the Olsztyn agglomeration covers, apart from the Warmia and Mazury voivodship, also the neighbouring districts of the Podlaskie and the Mazowieckie voivodships.

    Głównym celem opracowania koncentruje się będzie na rozpoznaniu wartości interpretacyjnej i wnioskowej migracji wewnętrznych na pobyt stały z uwzględnieniem ich kierunku. Analizowane dane obejmują okres 2002–2017 a pochodzą z internetowej bazy danych Demografia GUS. W opracowaniu dokonano rozpoznania zjawiska migracji wychodząc od ujęcia ogółem, przez ujęcie klasyczne, ostatecznie do ukazania wielkości i kierunków przemieszczeń. Ukazując wielkość i kierunki przemieszczeń posługiwano się sumaryczną, wartością migracji w badanym okresie. Podejście to określono mianem „agregatowego”. Pozwoliło ono na identyfikację zlewni i obszarów atrakcyjności migracyjnej. Jakkolwiek obszary te są silnie zbliżone co do ich rozciągłości przestrzennej to zróżnicowane ze względu na wielkość i zasięg głównych strumieni migracji. Migracje wewnętrzne na pobyt stały jawią się jako dobry identyfikator urbanizacji stref podmiejskich i kształtowania powiązań funkcjonalnych miasto–obszar wiejski–miasto.
    The main aim of the study is to identify the interpretative and conclusive value of internal migrations including their direction. The analysed data covers the period between 2002–2017 and comes from the online database Demografia GUS [Demography, Central Statistical Office]. The paper analyses the phenomenon of migration starting with a general overview, via a classical approach to finally present the volume and directions of movements. While presenting the volume and directions of migrations total values of migration have been considered for the given period. The approach has been called “the aggregate approach”. It allowed to identify the catchment areas as well as areas of migratory attractiveness. These areas are highly similar in terms of their spatial extent. However, they differ significantly in terms of magnitude and reach of the main migration streams. Permanent internal migrations appear to be a good indicator of urbanisation of suburban zones and the shaping of functional urban–rural–urban connections.

    Zgodnie ze światowymi zjawiskami globalizacji i integracji, a także procesami, według których coraz więcej podmiotów terytorialnych zaczyna łączyć się, tworząc megapodmioty, obserwujemy podobne zjawiska i procesy w Polsce, czego przykładem jest powstanie makroregionów: Polski Wschodniej i Polski Zachodniej. W artykule przedstawiam przyczyny powstania makroregionu Polska Zachodnia, który w 2010 roku powołały do życia samorządy województw: dolnośląskiego, opolskiego, lubuskiego, wielkopolskiego i zachodniopomorskiego. Zwracam uwagę na to, kto zamieszkuje ten obszar, jaki jest jego potencjał, a także na szczególne położenie makroregionu, które stało się filarem jego budowania – w oparciu o Odrę, transgraniczność, silne oddziaływanie jednego z największych biegunów wzrostu w Europie, jakim jest obszar metropolitarny Berlina. W artykule w zarysie charakteryzuję podstawowe dokumenty, które planują rozwój Polski Zachodniej, a także najważniejsze działania, które podjęto w ostatnich latach.
    According to the world phenomena of globalization and integration, as well as processes according to which more and more territorial entities are starting to merge forming mega-subjects, we are observing similar occurrences and processes in Poland which the coming into existence of the macro-regions of Eastern Poland and Western Poland is an example of. In the article I present the causes of the uprising of the macro-region Western Poland, which in 2010 launched the self-government bodies of the following provinces: Lower Silesia, Opole Voivodship, Lubuskie Voivodship, Greater Poland and Western Pomerania. I pay attention to who is inhabiting this area, what its potential is, as well as especially the macro-region which became a pillar of its formation – leaning against the Oder, cross-border-ness, the strong influence of one of the greatest areas in Europe which contains the metropolis of Berlin. In the outline there are characteristics of basic documents which describe the development of Western Poland, as well as the most important actions which were undertaken in the final years of planning.

    W 2009 roku opracowano Strategię Unii Europejskiej dla Regionu Morza Bałtyckiego. Strategia ta opiera się na koncepcji podejścia makroregionalnego, która została w niej zainicjowana. Teorią wspierającą tę koncepcję jest teoria wielopoziomowego zarządzania (MLG). W artykule przeanalizowano proces wdrażania tej strategii i stworzone w niej podejście makroregionalne. Analiza związana jest z 10. rocznicą powstania strategii i podejścia makroregionalnego, które zostało przekształcone w koncepcję wdrożoną również w innych makroregionach Unii Europejskiej.
