Opis:
Manufacturing and geotechnical engineering utilise a number of machining tools. In their construction, a significant role is played by brazed joints, thanks to which the machining element can be made of WC/Co materials. The metal-ceramics material is joined with steel or cast steel elements with the use of filler metal, based on copper alloys. The components of filler metals are different depending on technological requirements. These may be the alloys of copper, silver, zinc, nickel, cobalt, and manganese. The article presents various techniques of brazing 40HM steel and WC/Co material with filler metal not containing zinc Cu87Mn10Co3. The experimental joints were made with the use of distance rods, steel mesh, and nickel mesh. The impact of the material that provides repeatability of the geometry of the brazing process was tested on the strength of a joint that is subjected to shear stress. The impact of distance elements is mostly positively assessed; however, in some data from publications, the impact of steel mesh is assessed negatively. In order to assess the correctness of joints, x-ray computer tomography was conducted.
W artykule przedstawiono różne techniki wykonania połączenia lutowanego stali 40HM i materiału WC/Co lutowiem bezcynkowym Cu87Mn10Co3. Doświadczalne połączenia wykonywano z wykorzystaniem dystansowych drutów stalowych, siatek lutowniczych stalowych oraz niklowych. Zbadano wpływ materiału zapewniającego powtarzalność geometrii procesu lutowniczego na wytrzymałość połączenia poddanemu naprężeniu ścinającemu. Wpływ elementów dystansujących jest przeważnie oceniany pozytywnie, jednak w niektórych danych literaturowych [5] wpływ siatki stalowej oceniany jest negatywnie. Do określenia poprawności wykonanych spoin wykorzystano rentgenowski tomograf komputerowy.

Opis:
Commonly applied theories of self-excited vibrations in machine tools are prevailingly based on frequency domain analysis of linear models and are devoted in most cases only to evaluation of stability limits of strictly linear systems. In this way, the behaviour of more stable or more unstable systems cannot be studied and analyzed. Certain important nonlinear effects cannot be studied as well for limitations connected with classical representation of systems only in the frequency domain. Evaluation of stability by analysis of nonlinear systems in time domain has not been applied until now. The paper shows a new approach based on interpretation of the self-excited vibration systems as nonlinear servo-systems. With this approach, linear and nonlinear systems of any degree of stability can be studied by combination of frequency and time-domain methods. This can considerably contribute to better understanding of complex phenomena in various regimes and special situations.

The paper presents results of wear measurements of carbide shank milling cutters during machining of AlSi10Mg casting alloy. The comparison was made between blades wear of milling cutters without protective coating, with TiB2 coating, and with TiAlCN coating. All cutters had identical geometry dedicated to milling of materials of ISO N group. To assess blades wear degree, measurement of two direct indicators, i.e. VBC and VBBmax, and one indirect indicator, i.e. machined surfaces roughness, were used. Received results allowed to determine usefulness of using selected protective coatings in machining of aluminium alloys, especially Al-Si casting alloys.

This paper highlights the performance of precision hard turning with CBN cutting tools from energy point-of-view with additional tool wear effect. For this purpose several wear tests were performed during which the tool nose wear VBC and the corresponding changes of component forces Fc, Ff and Fp were continuously measured. Based on the measured forces and geometrical characteristic of the uncut layer, specific cutting and ploughing energy were determined for several combinations of cutting parameters. Consequently, changes of energy consumption resulting from tool wear evolution for variable feed rate, depth of cut and tool nose radius were presented.

Opis:
This article summarizes experimental analyses for the determination of process parameters that can be achieved in an industrial machine tool with parallel kinematics. Focus is on the examination of the machining results' dependency on position and direction. Therefore milling experiments are conducted, testing different positions and directions within the workspace. Surface quality, process forces, acceleration as well as vibration characteristics of the working platform are assessed. Based on measured frequency responses the stability limits are determined at different locations within the workspace. By these examinations it can be confirmed that the dependency of static and dynamic machine properties on position and direction has an influence on machining results. Best results are achieved in central positions of the machine used for most of respective operations. Furthermore it's represented that the machining results are comparable to conventional serial machines though parallel kinematics show a stronger dependency on direction.

Opis:
Marine propellers are complex surfaces that are usually machined with a perfect roughness in order not to disturb the theoretical flow. Because this requirement is penalizing from a manufacturing point of view, the global objective of the study is to propose an approach in which the machining parameters are linked to functional properties of the blade in order to remove the polishing phase. To reach this objective, hydrodynamic data are used: streak lines, that are computed during the propeller design phase, characterize the fluid behavior at the close vicinity of the blade. Those lines, which are theoretically continuous at the leading edge, turn out to be discontinuous, due to the computing method. To be consistent with the fluid behavior as much as possible, the idea presented in the paper is to compose a continuous trajectory, especially at the leading edge, to mill the surface. Thus, an algorithm is developed to plan tool paths which are smoothed at leading edge using Bezier curves. Moreover, this algorithm allows to quantify the cusp height at the leading edge to avoid a drop in performance using criteria linked to the dynamical behavior of a five axis machine tool. In this work, a strategy is developed and enables multiaxial milling of a blade surface by using geometric and hydrodynamic data and by respecting the associated constraints.

Reconfigurable Machine Tool (RMT) is the active issue to realize both the flexibility and productivity of manufacturing systems and satisfy the mass-customization production. The purpose of this paper is to present a RMT design methodology. Specifically, the part analysis and the RMT architectural modelling. The method of RMT design is focused on a simultaneous machining process using multi-spindle in a single RMT. Based on the concept of machining features, the process data, retrieved as a starting point in identifying various functions necessary to carry out a given part family, are displayed. Moreover, geometrical and kinematical architectures of RMT are defined as a result of the specification of all manufacturing processes of features to be machined. Where, all architectural solutions and the criterions related to select the suited solution are presented. Our methodology presents all activities allowing to pass from machining features of part to be machined to the structure of RMT.

Opis:
The context of this paper implies disciplines of mechanical design, machining and hydrodynamics behaviours applied to propellers. Performances of propellers are linked with their shape and their surface texture. To optimise hydrodynamics behaviours, it is demonstrated in this paper that required polishing operation is not essential. To study the influence of an predefined surface texture on the performances of a three-dimensional foil, a comparative analysis is conducted. The presented methodology allows the definition of tool paths, according to the desired surface texture and upstream flow. Three foils are machined, and their performances are compared to each other: the first, considered as the reference, has a surface roughness like mirror, the second features machined peaks parallel to the upstream flow and the third has machined peaks following streamlines obtained by Computational Fluid Dynamics for operating conditions. The validation of this method is experimental: on the one hand by the manufacturing of foils following pre-established trajectories, and on the other hand by the functional test in hydrodynamic tunnel. This paper presents the methodology steps, and the hydrodynamic behaviours that the three different foils show. In a first approach, the different surface textures do not influence the lift coefficient but strongly influence the drag coefficient of a foil. Furthermore several hypotheses educed from the observed tendencies are discussed.

Vibration in metal cutting processes has been studied to a great extent resulting in for instance stability lobe diagrams under which stable machining parameters can be selected. One limitation of accurately estimated stability diagrams is the change in process and dynamic characteristics of the machine tool under operation. The machine tool dynamic response is often analysed with experimental modal analysis under off operational conditions. One drawback with this approach is the large number of measurements required to fully describe a machine tool and workpiece in different positions and time of machining. Another drawback is that the change of dynamiccharacteristics under operation is excluded. Operational modal analysis has been applied in machining under different conditions resulting in successfully improved stability lobe prediction. This research includes operational modal analysis of the workpiece, fixed on a stiffness controllable joint and stability prediction to stress the importance of various machining conditions.

Opis:
Unmanned manufacturing systems has recently gained great interest due to the ever increasing requirements of optimized machining for the realization of the fourth industrial revolution in manufacturing ‘Industry 4.0’. Real-time tool condition monitoring (TCM) and adaptive control (AC) machining system are essential technologies to achieve the required industrial competitive advantage, in terms of reducing cost, increasing productivity, improving quality, and preventing damage to the machined part. New AC systems aim at controlling the process parameters, based on estimating the effects of the sensed real-time machining load on the tool and part integrity. Such an aspect cannot be directly monitored during the machining operation in an industrial environment, which necessitates developing new intelligent model-based process controllers. The new generations of TCM systems target accurate detection of systematic tool wear growth, as well as the prediction of sudden tool failure before damage to the part takes place. This requires applying advanced signal processing techniques to multi-sensor feedback signals, in addition to using ultra-high speed controllers to facilitate robust online decision making within the very short time span (in the order of 10 ms) for high speed machining processes. The development of new generations of Intelligent AC and TCM systems involves developing robust and swift communication of such systems with the CNC machine controller. However, further research is needed to develop the industrial internet of things (IIOT) readiness of such systems, which provides a tremendous potential for increased process reliability, efficiency and sustainability.

Circular saw blades are rolled in the shape of a ring by special roll tensioning machines to improve the static and dynamic behaviour of steel saw blades. Plastic deformation and strain hardening in the roller track area cause residual stresses in the circular saw blade, which influence the static stiffness and the natural frequencies of the circular saw blade. Roll tensioning is one of the important parts when producing circular saws, especially in the production of thin circular saw blades. Although the influence of the roll tensioning process on the static and dynamic properties is well-known, it is interesting to further investigate the parameters influencing the roll tensioning process. This paper presents the influence of various parameters on the roll tensioning process, such as material properties, rolling force, contact condition between roller wheels and circular saw blade. These investigations help to find the optimisation ability of this process and to gain a better understanding of the relationships between roll tensioning processes and improved static and dynamic properties of thin saw blades.

Reducing energy consumption is a necessity towards achieving the goal of net-zero manufacturing. In this paper, the overall energy footprint of machining Ti-6Al-4V using various cooling/lubrication methods is investigated taking the embodied energy of cutting tools and cutting fluids into account. Previous studies concentrated on reducing the energy consumption associated with the machine tool and cutting fluids. However, the investigations in this study show the significance of the embodied energy of cutting tool. New cooling/lubrication methods such as WS2-oil suspension can reduce the energy footprint of machining through extending tool life. Cutting tools are commonly replaced early before reaching their end of useful life to prevent damage to the workpiece, effectively wasting a portion of the embodied energy in cutting tools. A deep learning method is trained and validated to identify when a tool change is required based on sensor signals from a wireless sensory toolholder. The results indicated that the network is capable of classifying over 90% of the tools correctly. This enables capitalising on the entirety of a tool’s useful life before replacing the tool and thus reducing the overall energy footprint of machining processes.

Present work is concerned on the development of kinetics problems of a solid represented by a tool fixed flexibly and is a continuation of the problem. Part 1 covers the definition and characteristics of the machining space-time and is referred generally to the kinetics. Then the kinetic and dynamic magnitudes characterizing tool in the space-time are described. The set of these magnitudes has been extended by introducing the properly understood impulse and time-effect. Part 2 of the work is to consider the dynamics of tool in the machining space-time. Rapid evolution in sensing, data analysis, and industrial internet of things technologies had enabled the manufacturing of advanced smart tooling. This has been fused with effective digital inter-connectivity and integrated process control intelligence to form the industry I4.0 platform. This keynote paper presents the recent advances in smart tooling and intelligent control techniques for machining processes. Self-powered wireless sensing nodes have been utilized for non-intrusive measurement of process-born phenomena near the cutting zone, as well as tool wear and tool failure, to increase confidence in the process and tool condition monitoring accuracy. Cyber-physical adaptive control approaches have been developed to optimize the cycle time and cost while eliminating machined part defects. Novel artificial intelligence AI-based signal processing and modeling approaches were developed to guarantee the generalization and practicality of these systems. The paper concludes with the outlook for future work needed for seamless implementation of these developments in industry.

Opis:
This work is a continuation of the problems of kinetics and dynamics of solid on the example of a tool fixed flexibly under cutting. Present work is concerned on the development of work and energy. A special attention has been paid to the work description by underlying a distinctness and lack of connection with the energy notion. Polarization of these two magnitudes has been revealed. An adequate and extended definition of energy in general, with mechanical energy in particular, is formulated. There are three kinds of mechanical energy considered, located on the stable static potential field being one of the limits of the machining space-time. They are the following energies: repel, inertial, and gravitational. Proper measures/potentials have been assigned to these energies, treating the energy as a mental notion, having no physical meaning in contrast to the potential as the physical magnitude.

Opis:
Building repositories of data relevant for enterprise operations requires harmonization of formats and semantics. OPC UA’s nodes-and-references data model shares basic elements with well-established semantic modeling technologies like RDF. This paper suggests the use of transformed OPC UA information models on the higher level of Enterprise Knowledge Graphs. It proposes good practice to integrate the separate domains by representing OPC UA servers as RDF-graphs and subsequently attaching them to Digital Twins embedded in Enterprise Knowledge Graph structures. The developed practice is implemented, applied to combine a server’s structure with an existing knowledge graph containing an Asset Administration Shell and released open source.

Opis:
This article shows the results of research on the effectiveness of operation of an original tool air cooling system in cutting. A case of turning EN-GJL 250 cast iron with TH10 tungsten carbide cutting inserts without protective coatings was selected for testing. The paper gives constructional details of the tested tool cooling system and discusses the principle of its operation. The research carried out has shown that this way of cooling the cutting insert causes a significant decrease in temperature in all sub-areas of the cutting zone. In addition, air cooling has been proven to significantly reduce cutting tool wear and slightly improve the roughness of the machined surface. The results obtained showed that the proposed method of cooling can be successfully used in the treatment of grey cast iron. In the future, it may serve as a basis for the construction of a professional cooling system for industrial applications.
