Opis:
Influence of the machine frame on the dynamic properties of spindle and tool is investigated using an example of a real machine tool. Model of the whole mechanical system is created as a coupled system of the tool, spindle and machine frame single submodels. Experimental verification of the model has shown a good match of the system critical frequencies and compliances. It has been proved that properties of the machine frame limit the dynamic properties at the tool tip especially in the case, if a compact tool is used.

Opis:
The article deals with the problems of application of aluminium matrix composites in car industry and electro discharge machining (EDM) of selected composites, which are used for engine pistons. Composites with Al+20%Si+3%Cu+1%Mg matrix were manufacturing by the powder metallurgy route in the process of cold compaction, degassing and hot extrusion. As the reinforcing phase Al2O3 particles with average size of 3, 9, 23 and 53 μm were used. Samples had constant reinforcing phase 5 and 10 % by volume. Electro discharge machining was performed using machine equipped with RLC generator. Four modes of energy of single discharge Ei in the range of 0.165 to 2.268 mJ were applied. EDM was carried out in a free – system. The main parameters determined after machining were volumetric productivity Vw (mm3 /min) and roughness of the machined surface expressed as Ra. It was shown that energy of single discharge influence mainly on the EDM process running. The higher was Ei, the higher were value of Vw. Increasing particle granularity from 3 to 53 μm caused decreasing in process productivity 13 to 19%. Ei affects the surface roughness during EDM. The value of Ra increases as this energy increases. When the size of reinforcing particles is growing, roughness parameter Ra is also growing.

Opis:
Tool wear and surface roughness as performance indexes are considered to be the most important in terms of hardened materials’ machinability. The best combination of cutting parameters which enhances the compromise between tool life, productivity and machined surface quality contribute to benefice on production cost, which makes manufacturing industry interested in it. The aim of this research is to investigate the life of ceramic cutting tool and machining productivity together with surface roughness during turning of hardened steel C45, with focus on the selection of the optimal cutting parameter combination. The experiments are carried out based on uni-factorial planning methodology of cutting speeds and feed rates. The results show that the mixed ceramic tool is suitable for turning hardened steel C45 (40 HRC) and the conclusion is that it performed well in terms of tool life, productivity and surface quality at a combination of cutting speed (200 m/min), feed (0.08 mm/rev) and depth of cut (0.3 mm). Additionally, a tool life model has been proposed which is presented very high coefficient of determination.
