Opis:
The article presents the world of attitudes and values of Janusz Stanisław Pasierb (1929-1993), future philosopher, art historian and poet, who during childhood and adolescence emerged within the space of his family home. This young man in this period acquired a peculiar, internal order, with help of his relatives and closest friends he „worked out” a set of ideas that became both a tool used to „control” the desintegration of the war in 1939-1945, and something that defined his identity. Final turning point of this very important stage in the life the author of Czas otwarty was the year 1947, when he joined the Seminary in Pelplin. Stay in the seminar caused problematic aspects of subjectivity, previously mentioned by the young artist, to obtain a remarkable dynamism that abstracts from the elements of „externality”, characteristic for the occupation period, as well as the great depth of meanings.

CEL NAUKOWY: Celem artykułu jest zaprezentowanie wyników przeprowadzonej analizy przekazów medialnych i wskazanie sposobów charakteryzowania młodych naukowców w mediach. PROBLEM I METODY BADAWCZE: Problemem badawczym jest ukazanie różnych kryteriów postrzegania młodości i ich odniesienie do badań nad wizerunkiem młodego naukowca w mediach. Wśród metod badawczych wykorzystano badania ilościowe, analizę korpusową i pomocniczo analizę treści oraz analizę komparatywną danych statystycznych i wyników badań wtórnych. PROCES WYWODU: Wywód składa się z trzech części. Celem pierwszej części jest ukazanie specyfiki postrzegania kategorii młodości na przykładzie badań opinii społecznej i analizy danych statystycznych. W dalszych rozważaniach autorki wskazują, kogo w obszarze nauki i szkolnictwa wyższego określa się mianem młodego naukowca. Trzecia część wywodu skupia się na zaprezentowaniu specyfiki przedstawiania młodych naukowców w mediach. WYNIKI ANALIZY NAUKOWEJ: Artykuł przedstawia autorską klasyfikację portretów młodego naukowca w mediach. Różnorodność wskazywanych grup jednoznacznie pokazuje nieścisłość i niekonsekwencje w posługiwaniu się określeniem „młody naukowiec”. WNIOSKI, INNOWACJE, REKOMENDACJE: Określenie „młody naukowiec” jest wykorzystywane w przekazach medialnych bez odniesienia do wytycznych ustawowych. Ma ono często charakter promocyjny dla innych grup wiekowych biorących udział w przedsięwzięciach z obszaru szeroko rozumianej nauki czy edukacji. Dlatego innowacyjne wydaje się stworzenie autorskiej klasyfikacji portretów młodego naukowca w mediach, która powstała na podstawie analizy przekazów internetowych i porównawczo wypowiedzi prasowych, telewizyjnych i radiowych. Autorki rekomendują wykorzystanie określenia w komunikacji marketingowej dla wzmocnienia funkcji wartościującej w odniesieniu do osób spoza definicji ustawowej młodego naukowca.

Esej jest impresją krążącą wokół problematyki buntu i anarchii obecnej w dziele Witolda Gombrowicza od debiutu po ostatnie utwory. Problematyka związana jest z centralnymi w tej twórczości opozycjami dojrzałość – niedojrzałość i wyższość – niższość. W wywodzie autor nie pretenduje do rozstrzygania i stawiania arbitralnych tez, przyjmuje raczej pozycję związaną z gatunkiem eseju literackiego – wątpliwości i próby. To pozwala także na podjęcie próby odczytywania fragmentów utworów autora Ferdydurke przez pryzmat współczesności i hipotezę, iż „nauki” Gombrowicza nie zostały w Polsce społecznie przepracowane, co zawdzięczać należy także politycznym i ideologicznym manipulacjom.
This essay considers the subjects of rebellion and anarchy in the work of Witold Gombrowicz from his debut to his last pieces. Both issues are related to two of the central oppositions in his work, maturity versus immaturity and superiority versus inferiority. In his considerations, Jerzy Olejniczak does not attempt to settle any issues or to advance arbitrary claims. Rather, he assumes the authorial position characteristic of the genre of the literary essay, asking questions and suggesting routes of exploration. This position allows him to essay to read passages from Gombrowicz through the prism of the present day and to submit that Gombrowicz’s “lessons” have not been thoroughly learned in Poland, owing largely but not exclusively to political and ideological machinations.

Two Polish historical films set in 19th-century cities were created. The paper analyzes film images of Warsaw, Paris and Vienna. For the needs of Warszawska premiera [Warsaw Première] and especially Młodość Chopina [Youth of Chopin] impressive sets of 19th-century cities were built in an atelier in Łódź. The author presents the main architectural principles behind these visions and points to the problems faced by the artists who wanted to create a credible and convincing illusion of the past. The films of socialist realism are today a peculiar souvenir of the Stalinist culture with its brazen propaganda message. It is, however, worth noting that the staging and decorations in the films depicting the past were created with great historical accuracy and some of the solutions applied during the production of Warsaw Première and Youth of Chopin were a great hint for later films of a similar character.

Youth is an important period in human life as it influences whole future on an individual. John Paul II, as evidenced by his teaching during the World Youth Day, granted special consideration to the young people. Also the Church pays special attention to the early period of human life, a key stage in religious formation. The Polish Pope called the youth „future and hope of the world” and oxen claimed that Christ needs the young people in order for the Gospel to reach to all corners of the world. They youth seek ideals and want to grant sense to their lives. They want to build their lives on solid foundations. Youth is open to intellectual growth, therefore it is worthwhile to cultivate broad education at this stage of life which is characterized by good memory and ability to reason in logical manner. Youth is the period of increased creativity, although it is also characterized by criticism. The article is an attempt to show how the young people may creatively en-gage in the present and the future of the Church and the world.

The purpose of this article is to compare beliefs concerning factors affecting human health expressed by women and men in two age categories: young (20–37 years) and old (above 63 years). These beliefs constitute one of the aspects of the cognitive component of the attitude towards health. Science provides several models pointing to different types of determinants of the psychophysical condition of individuals. A question arises, what ideas concerning this topic function in popular awareness and does gender and age differentiate these beliefs (and more broadly, the approach towards health). The interest in influence of gender and age on health awareness stems from differences in evaluating the state of one’s own health and health-related behaviour of men and women of different age that were observed in social research (Dzwonkowska-Godula et al. 2012; CBOS 2012a). The basis here is the hypothesis about the influence of cultural definitions of femininity and masculinity (gender), differentiated in relation to people being in different phases of life (gendered age), on attitudes towards health, including health awareness.
Celem artykułu jest porównanie przekonań dotyczących czynników wpływających na zdrowie człowieka, wyrażanych przez kobiety i mężczyzn w dwóch kategoriach wiekowych: młodych (20–37 lat) oraz starych (powyżej 63 lat). Przekonania te stanowią jeden z aspektów poznawczego komponentu postawy wobec zdrowia. Nauka dostarcza wielu modeli wskazujących na różne rodzaje uwarunkowań kondycji psychofizycznej jednostek. Pojawia się pytanie, jakie wyobrażenia na ten temat funkcjonują w świadomości potocznej oraz czy płeć i wiek różnicują te przekonania (i szerzej postawy wobec zdrowia). Zainteresowanie wpływem płci i wieku na świadomość zdrowotną wynika ze stwierdzanych w badaniach społecznych różnic w ocenie własnego stanu zdrowia oraz zachowaniach zdrowotnych kobiet i mężczyzn w różnym wieku (Dzwonkowska-Godula i in. 2012, CBOS 2012a). Punktem wyjścia jest tu założenie o wpływie na postawy wobec zdrowia, w tym także świadomość zdrowotną, kulturowych definicji kobiecości i męskości (gender) zróżnicowanych w odniesieniu do ludzi będących w różnych fazach życia (gendered age).

Opis:
Renata Gadamska-Serafin’s book entitled Imago Dei. Człowiek w myśli i twórczości Cypriana Norwida [Imago Dei. The Man in Cyprian Kamil Norwid’s Thought and Works] is devoted to anthropological issues in the poet’s works. She focuses her studies on two anthropological issues: the essence of the man and the human condition; or in other words, the essence and the existence. These two issues are analyzed in the context of both the 19th century anthropological thought with all its base of theological and philosophical tradition, as well as of selected trends in modern anthropology. As a source context for Norwid’s reflections Biblical and patristic tradition, especially Paul’s theology, as well as Socratic philosophy and Thomism are referred to. The first chapters of the book are devoted to analysis and reconstruction of ontological aspects of Norwid’s anthropology. A lot of space is given to Norwid’s long and fervent polemic with Darwin’s evolutionism. The issue of Christian personalism in the poet’s works is especially meticulously presented. The second part of the deliberations on Norwid’s anthropology is devoted to the poet’s Christian existentialism recognized by the author. Quite a lot of space is taken up by three existential issues: suffering, sorrow and happiness. Another extensive part of the book, entitled Aetates hominum, is devoted to the periods in a human being’s life, from childhood to old age, in the poet’s works. And the final, short subsections deal with inter-human relations, such as love, friendship, politeness and dialogue. Looking for a formula that would describe Norwid’s whole thought about the man, in the conclusion the author reminds Hanna Malewska’s accurate definition: she called Norwid’s anthropology theocentric humanism.

The Old Believer’s in Poland live in three regions: Augustów, Suwałki and the Mazurian Lakeside. In one of them (the Augustow region) there are people, who have developed their own system of transcription of the Russian dialect to create their memorable texts. Nowadays it is the only literature in the Old Believers’ community. This specific kind of poetry is a very important source of knowledge about history, culture and traditions minority group. Because of the specific self-made system of transcripion and themes related to the local community, the poems uniqe. Moreover, they are also interesting because of their thematic diversity, containing many popular folk topics. One of them is the theme of youth. The concept of “youth” evokes many associations among the representatives of the older generation. The local poets writing about the past rely on their own observations and present only its positive aspects.

The theme of melancholy in the Polish prose of the 21st century is still valid and directly related to the issue of identity and maturity of protagonists. People who suffer from depression exist in a world in which “ all that is solid, melts into the air”. This feeling complicates their existence because they often cannot describe their own identity (both individual and collective). The modern homo melancholicus often treats his or her own life as someone else’s project, which intensifies the experience of incoherent self-image and sense of alienation. In the latest realistic prose, reflections on passing away appear in thirty-year-old protagonists who lose the illusion of a quick career which would give them (apparently) happiness. Recalling the past, rooted in communist Poland, turns out to be a type of autotherapy. Melancholics see their lives as scattered, deformed, similar to the puzzles that should be put together again. The ongoing depersonalization and identity problems make that the heroes wander around the labyrinth, looking for a way out of it. The experience of melancholy proves to be the experience of transgression in which a person can find himself by accepting the complexity of the world.
