Opis:
Objective: To assess current literature focused on the influence of functional training with blood flow restriction (BFR) on muscular adaptation in adults below the age of 65 years. Methods: A systematic literature search was performed with the following databases: PubMed, CINAHL Complete EBSCOhost, and ScienceDirect. Two researchers filtered the articles according to the criteria and quality, supported by the Consolidated Standards of Reporting Trials (CONSORT) tool. Studies were limited to those with participants with a mean age between18 and 65 years. Articles were peer-reviewed, available in English, and utilized either multi-joint resistance exercises or functional exercise as the intervention. Results: The search yielded 16 studies on uninjured, older adult, injured and athletic subjects. Regardless of the population, the studies tended to favor BFR training for improvements of strength, but this was highly dependent on cuff pressure and training load. Conclusions: Current literature suggests that BFR with functional and or multi-joint strength training is successful in improving strength, hypertrophy, function and in pain reduction. Favorable results with functional BFR included procedures using relative and well-controlled occlusion pressure. More research is necessary to understand the effect of BFR on self-reported outcomes and hypertrophy in athletic and older adults.

Opis:
Aluminized 2,4,6-trinitrotoluene (TNT) based, melt-cast, high explosive compositions are widely used in warheads. These compositions offer a blast effect over a larger period due to the secondary combustion of aluminum. During recent times tungsten based explosives have been reported for lethality at close range to avoid collateral damage in low intensity conflicts (LIC) and find application in shaped charges to enhance their penetration capability. This paper reports findings on tungsten-based, melt-cast, explosive formulations. The compositions were prepared by substituting aluminum with tungsten in the reference aluminized, high explosive formulation. The compositions were characterized for their sensitivity to mechanical/shock stimuli, velocity of detonation (VOD) and blast performance. The study reveals that the impact sensitivity remains comparable on incorporating 10% tungsten at the cost of aluminum whereas an increase in tungsten content to 20% leads to an increase in impact sensitivity. However friction sensitivity and shock sensitivity remained more or less unchanged. The velocity of detonation (VOD) of tungsten-loaded, aluminized formulations is found to be comparable to the standard aluminized formulation. The peak over pressure of tungsten-based formulations is lower than the reference, aluminized composition at close range but is almost unchanged at long range. The impulse of tungsten-based formulations is also lower than the reference, aluminized composition. The reduction in impulse at close range is substantial on replacing 10% aluminum with inert tungsten.

Opis:
Studying the dynamic behavior of magnetic particle suspensions in the low intensity magnetic separator has important implications for various mineral beneficiation processes. A new approach for fully coupled multi-physics modeling of the dynamic behavior of multi-type magnetic particles (MTMPs) is developed in the study. In this model, the particle tracing module is employed to identify and determine individual particle trajectories in the fluid and magnetic field, which are modelled through the COMSOL Multiphysics. The results show that the different arrangements of the permanent magnet assembly and the volume percentage of interlocked particles affect the dynamic behavior of MTMPs and the efficiency of the separation. The model is compared with experiments and the particle capture theory and the correctness of the solution obtained from COMSOL is demonstrated. The model gives new possibilities to control, optimise, and develop the process of LIMS.

Opis:
This study aims to find the effectiveness of different exercise intensities (high-, moderate-, and low-intensity) on the dynamic and static balance of elderly women. A single-blinded factorial design study was conducted in healthy older adults (>65 years) in 12 weeks. The authors have assessed the Forward Reach Test (FRT), Lateral Reach Test (LRT), One Leg Stand (OLS), Tandem Stand Test (TST) in 60 healthy older women at a gym centre, Fit House located in Bukit Rimau, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Participants were randomly assigned to a High-Intensity Training (HIT) group; (n=15) (Mean age 69.60 ± 3.68) who performed four exercises [Leg Press (LP), Leg Extension (LE), Leg Curl (LC), and Calf Raises (CR)] at 80 to 90% of One-Repetition Maximum (1RM); Moderate-Intensity Training (MIT) group (n=15) (Mean age 69.27 ± 3.41) performed at 65 to 75% of 1RM; Low- Intensity Training (LIT) group (n=15) (Mean age 69.27 ± 1.94) performed at 50 to 60% of 1 RM; and a Control Group (CG) (n = 15) (Mean age 68.67 ± 2.38) with no training. Data was collected at pre-test, 4th, 8th, and 12th weeks of intervention. 60 participants were analysed and the main effect of time showed a statistically significant difference in the mean of all variables (all p < 0.001), and also there was a statistically significant interaction between intervention and time on all variables (all p < 0.001). Different levels of intensity on only the lower extremities muscles had a significant effect on the dynamic balance and static balance of the elderly population. After four weeks of training HIT, MIT, and LIT illustrated significant improvement in dynamic balance, as well as static balance.

Opis:
Urbanization is one of the global most distinctive phenomena. This process affects also the nature of combat scenario while more and more military operations take place in urban areas, as it was expressed in the last 15 years in Iraq, Afghanistan, the Balkan, Chechnia, Somalia and during the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Military Operations in Urban Terrain (MOUT) introduces many challenges into different combat scenarios, LIC (Low Intensity Conflict) and complex anti-terror operations. In the late stages of the urban combat phase of operation, as well as during the survivability and sustained operations (SASO) phase of the urban fight, military forces are often operating at close quarters against an ambiguary enemy [1]. In this kind of asymmetric war, the enemy gains the advantage by using simple munitions and relies on the natural protection of three dimensional urban structures. Mission forces are usually divided into small self-reliant groups (bubbles) that confront the complexity of the urban battlefield. Traditional weapons are insufficient for this scenario. This paper presents RAFAEL's breaching devices family which offers an innovative and unique solution for variety of targets and challenges within the Urban terrain.

Russian-Ukrainian war,
hybrid war,
conflicts of low intensity,

Opis:
In the article the problem to determine the nature, peculiarities of origin and means to overcome military conflicts like Russian-Ukrainian war (have been continuing since 2014) is studied. Modern scientific approaches to understanding of modern wars’ essence such as the theory of “hybrid wars”, “conflicts of low intensity”, “privatized wars”, рost-modern conflict and degenerate warfare are analyzed. Special attention is given to M. Kaldor’s conception of “new war” and the unusual character of modern wars is emphasized, when elements of partisan confrontation and international warring parties are combined. In reality it is impossible to distinguish civilian population from warring parties. A very important feature is the formation of new forces, which are decentralized and consist of many different types (para-military secessionist units, local field commanders, mercenaries and regular armies). The author gives special consideration to such nuance of Russian-Ukrainian war as the destruction of Ukrainian statehood by the Russian Federation (RF) using not only the external front but the inner one. In the article the influence of the RF on home Ukrainian problems is proposed to study in three projections: political, economic and cultural. At the same time the accent is made on the RF’s using of democratic Ukrainian procedures and institutions for Russia’s benefit. As to the economic component, Russia holds an interest in creating of additional expenses for Ukraine because of: 1) population that in fact is in occupation (social services: pensions, indemnities for health and home losses, etc.); 2) destruction of infrastructure in occupied regions; 3) works in territories under the RF’s control. The cultural changes, which help Russia in the war confrontation, are emphasized. Firstly, it is the formation of a separate regional identity (prevailing over the state one) in the occupied territories. Secondly, there are strained relations (between Russians and Ukrainians, parishioners of the Moscow and Kiev Patriarchate, age strata, etc.). Thirdly, gradual destruction of “new” Ukrainian heroes’ (soldier of Anti-Terrorist Operation (ATO)) images is conducted. Fourthly, they consolidate negative images of local population of the ‘LPR’-‘DPR’, who couldn’t defend the independence of their region and now make additional budgetary loadings. Reasons of Russia entry into the war against Ukraine are also analyzed in the article. These reasons are: overdependence of Russian economic system from external world, fatal developmental scientific lag. The author indicates that concentration of social attention on the war let mobilize Russian society to struggle against common enemy, level the aftermath of hydrocarbon era and inevitable social and economic polarization of Russian society. The following aspects are treated by the author as the aftermath of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict: 1) compensation of total government ownership and encroachment on rights ands freedoms of Russian citizens by means of felling like “the great nation” as the result of the of Ukrainian territory seizure (the Crimea); 2) creation of a precedent to reconsider post-World War II agreements. In the conclusions of the article it is indicated that the most acceptable for the RF variant of further Russian-Ukrainian conflict is its tailing. The existence of the “grey zone” (the ‘LPR and the ‘DPR’) is advantageous in long-term perspective: to make up economic losses; to draw dividends from the opportunity to influence Ukraine the opportunities to reallocate areas of influence in world politics.

The eastern tailings of the Anshan mining area are generally categorized as high silicon-bearing iron tailings, and the iron mainly exists in the form of hematite–limonite with an iron grade of 10.60%. In order to recover iron minerals and reduce the influence of the tailings on the environment, a method for pre-enrichment through the combination of low intensity magnetic separation and high intensity magnetic separation with fluidized magnetizing roasting and subsequent low intensity magnetic separation was developed to treat the eastern tailings of the Anshan mining area. The effects of gas-flow rate, H2 concentration, roasting temperature, and roasting time on the quality of the final iron concentrate were discussed. Moreover, the iron phase transformation and change in magnetism of the sample were studied. The results indicated that an iron concentrate with an iron grade of 65.30% and a recovery of 85.85% could be obtained under the conditions of gas-flow rate of 8 m3/h, H2 concentration of 50%, and fluidized magnetizing roasting at 600 ℃ for 20 s. X-ray diffraction analysis, phase analysis, and magnetism analysis on the roasted materials indicated that the hematite–limonite could be transformed into magnetite during the fluidized magnetizing roasting process, and effective separation of iron and gangues could be easily achieved by the weak magnetic separation.

The article attempts to theoretically systematize conflicts in contemporary Asia. At the beginning, attention was paid to the cultural and civilizational determinants of disputes and tensions in the region, which have a direct impact on the sphere of political activity of individual states. It has been found that ethnic and religious heterogeneity is the cause of tensions in Asia in most cases. The critical role of the United States in creating new security architecture across the Asian region has been determined. At the same time, it has been emphasized that multifaceted diversity is not always at odds with conflict-free development and stability. The exemplification of this hypothesis is Malaysia – a country of three cultures (Islamic, Chinese and Hindu). This country gives an example for the whole Asia that diversity does not mean the fatalism of internal conflicts. Malaysia can be an inspiration, especially for the Islamic civilizational circle.

The article presents one of the forms of military involvement of states, which is a lowintensity conflict. It has been shown that initiating and participating in them can be an instrument of foreign policy. The first part describes this type of conflict, specifying the level of funds used, the territorial scope, the dynamics of the activities carried out and their legal status. In addition, examples of conflicts from current political practice were identified. The second part of the article analyzes the goals pursued by states using lowintensity conflicts, such as destabilizing a hostile state or questioning its political position, attempts to resolve territorial disputes and revise state borders, generating internal problems, building their own political position, as well as changing the political and legal circumstances. The content of the article concerns the theory of politics, but the totality of the issues presented may serve as a basis for reflection on examples from political practice.
