Opis:
Optimizing the efficiency of modern asynchronous machines requires the knowledge of the particular loss components. In this contribution a method shall be presented, where by the transient FEM-calculation the copper losses in the rotor bars by harmonic field effects and the consequential originating harmonic currents can be estimated. By this way the determination of the current density of the rotor current harmonics is carried out along the height of the rotor bar. The loss distribution from the bar bottom to the bar tip is derived from the effective current density and its spatial distribution. The calculation shows, that the additional losses represent a considerable quantum of the total losses, they are partly in the range of the fundamental copper losses and therewith they have a lasting effect on the efficiency of the machine. By convenient geometrical actions a reduction of the additional losses is possible.

Opis:
In order to assess possibilities of energy saving during hydrostatic drive system operation, should be learned, and described losses occurring in system. Awareness of proportion of energy, volume, pressure, and mechanical losses in elements is essential for improving functionality and quality of hydrostatic drive systems characterized by unquestionable advantages. In systems with too low efficiency there is increase of load, mainly in case of pump load, which can lead to higher risk of failure, necessity of repair or replacement, as well as to shorten service life of system. Coefficients ki, given in subject literature by Paszota, describe relative value of individual losses in element. They make it possible to assess proportions of losses and assess value of energy efficiency (volumetric, pressure, mechanical) resulting from losses occurring at nominal pressure pn of system in which element is used. As a result, thanks to knowledge of coefficients ki of individual losses, it is possible to determine losses and energy efficiency of components operating in hydraulic system as well as efficiency of system with defined structure of motor speed control as function of speed and load coefficient of motor. Knowledge of coefficients of energy losses occurring in system elements (pump, hydraulic motor, conduits, and motor) allows building models of losses and energy efficiency of element working in system and energy efficiency of system as whole composed of elements. Mathematical models of losses and energy efficiency in system must take into account conditions resulting from applied structure of system, from level of nominal pressure, from rotational speed of motor driving pump shaft, from viscosity change of applied hydraulic oil. Article presents method of determining coefficients of axial piston pump used in typical hydrostatic drive system with proportional control. Values that can be assumed for these loss coefficients for other hydraulic pumps are also given.

Straty fosforu analizowano na podstawie wyników badań modelowych przeprowadzonych w warunkach deszczu naturalnego na Stacji Doświadczalnej w Puławach w latach 1999-2001. Badania wykonano na mikropoletkach o wymiarach 2 m x 1 m x 0,3 m i nachyleniu 10%, wypełnionych materiałem glebowym z poziomu orno-próchnicznego. Pod względem genetycznym przeanalizowano siedem typów gleb, a pod względem składu granulometrycznego - 10 gatunków gleb. Glebę w mikropoletkach w sezonie wegetacyjnym utrzymywano w czarnym ugorze. W okresie trzech lat w materiale glebowym wymytym z mikropoletek (zawiesinie glebowej) analizowano zawartość próchnicy i fosforu oraz stężenie formy rozpuszczonej fosforu w wodzie spływu powierzchniowego. W wymytym materiale glebowym stwierdzono ponad 2-krotny wzrost próchnicy w stosunku do jej zawartości w mikropoletku.
The losses of phosphorus were analyzed based on the results of model tests carried out under natural rain conditions at the Experimental Station in Pulawy in the years of 1999-2001. The study was performed in microplot experiments with the dimensions of 2 m x 1 m x 0.3 m and a slope of 10% filled with soil material from the top - humus layer. In terms of genetic analyses, seven types of soils, and in terms of the texture 10 of the soil groups were analyzed. The soil in microplots was maintained in black fallow. The loss of phosphorus and humus content in the washed soil and in the water runoff was analyzed within three years of the experiments. In the spring of the third year of the experiment, phosphorous fertilization was used in order to determine the direct effect of phosphorus fertilization with superphosphate on the phosphorus concentration in water runoff and its content in the washed out soil material. The study of runoff and phosphorus losses and humus content were conducted separately for each erosion rain. The results showed a clear increase in the concentration of phosphorus in the runoff and washed soil where phosphorus fertilization was applied. There was also a twofold increase in the humus content in the washed out soil material compared to the soil in microplots.

Opis:
The purpose of this paper is to focus on the loss separation of non-grain-oriented electrical steels used for speed-variable rotating electrical machines. The impact of laser-cutting, used in prototype manufacturing and of flux density harmonics, occurring locally in the lamination, on the loss distribution is studied in detail. Iron losses occurring under operation can physically be separated in different loss components. In this paper, a frequency-based loss model with parameters identified for single-sheet tester specimens, cut in strips of different widths, is therefore used. Moreover, a time-domain approach considers loss distributions occurring from higher harmonics. Hysteresis losses having high sensitivity to cut edge effects are calculated by the well-known Jiles-Atherton model adapting the frequency-based loss parameters. The model is validated by free-curve measurements at a single-sheet tester. It has been shown that the studied elliptical hysteresis model becomes inaccurate particularly for specimens with small strip widths with similar dimensions as teeth of electrical machine laminations. The incorrect mapping of losses occurring from minor hysteresis loops due to higher harmonics is concluded. The results showconsequently that both, the impact of a cut edge effect and local distributions of flux density harmonics need to be considered in terms of accurate iron loss prediction of electrical machine design.

This paper presents a finite element investigation into the proximity losses in a high-speed permanent magnet (PM) machine for traction applications. A three-dimensional (3D) finite element analysis (FEA) is employed to evaluate and identify the endwinding contribution into the overall winding power loss generated. The study is focused on the end-winding effects that have not been widely reported in the literature. The calculated results confirm that the end-winding copper loss can significantly affect the eddycurrent loss within copper and it should be taken into account to provide reasonable prediction of total losses. Several structures of the end-winding are analyzed and compared in respect to the loss and AC resistance. The results clearly demonstrate that the size of the end-winding has a significant impact on the power loss. The calculated results are validated experimentally on the high-speed permanent magnet synchronous machine (PMSM) prototype for selected various winding arrangements.

Full picture of the energy losses in a hydrostatic drive system is a picture of the power of energy losses in the system elements. Paper presents the areas of the power fields of energy losses occurring in the elements of some hydraulic systems with different structures of the hydraulic motor speed control. Proposed graphical interpretation allows analysing and comparing different hydrostatic drive systems. In many constructed and manufactured machines currently used hydrostatic drive systems or electro hydrostatic systems of varying complexity. Today, the need for energy-efficient systems forces to some extent the development and improvement of computational methods using computer aided relating to energy efficiency systems. Hydrostatic systems especially in modern machines play a very important role. Actuators, such as hydraulic motors, hydraulic cylinders is commonly used for a long time, including on machines and equipment land and marine. Unawareness of proportions of the energy, volumetric, pressure and mechanical losses in elements is often the case. Problems connected with energy efficiency are essential for improvement of functionality and quality of hydrostatic drive systems, characterised by unquestioned advantages. Energy efficiency of hydrostatic transmissions, particularly those with throttling control of the motor speed, and also efficiency of the hydraulic servomechanism systems may be in fact higher than the values most often quoted in publications on the subject.

Opis:
The formation of oil film is possible under certain parameters of microgeometry cooperating components the main node of the internal combustion engine, which is a piston-pin-piston rings. In addition, this node is primarily responsible for the formation of mechanical losses. It is advisable to reduce friction losses in the piston-cylinder group lead to an increase in the overall efficiency of the engine and thus reduce the fuel consumption. One way of achieving these objectives is modification of microgeometry of the piston-bearing surface, which cooperates with the cylinder wall. The geometry of the gap between the piston skirt and the cylinder liner greatly affects the friction loss inside the engine. This means that the friction loss is much more affected by the area covered by the oil film separating the mating elements than its thickness. The method to reduce the area covered by the oil film is a modification of the bearing surface of the piston by adjusting the profile. The supporting surface, which performs a reciprocating motion relative to the strokes of the cylinder liner ensure the continuity of the oil film with the smallest possible value of the friction losses at the node piston-cylinder. This paper presents the results of simulation leading which aim to determining the parameters oil film on the friction loss for the modified bearing surface of the piston.

Geometry of the slot between piston bearing surface and cylinder bore affects the friction losses of the IC engine to the far extent. It appears that these losses depend more on the area covered with oil than the thickness of oil layer separating collaborating parts. Barrel-shaped or stepwise piston bearing surface is the way to reduce the oil-covered area. The first concept has been used for years while the stepwise profile has not been applied for various reasons, although this idea providing higher load capacity of oil layer in stepwise slot was published in literature in the fifties of twentieth century. The stepwise profile can be obtained covering the cylindrical or tapered piston-bearing surface with a thin layer graphite. This paper presents the results of simulation leading to the reduction in friction losses and abrasive wear of piston bearing surface and cylinder bore. Covering the piston bearing surface with a thin layer of graphite one can get an extremely advantageous tribological properties of the piston assembly which means the expected parameters of oil film and in a case of film rupture – an ignorable abrasive wear of the graphite layer and/or cylinder bore.

The effects of the load and speed on the mechanical loss balance were also analysed. The tests were conducted on a test bench equipped with a DC motor generator at speeds between 1500 and 4800 min-1 and three load levels of 25, 50, and 100%. The results showed that the mechanical efficiency ranges between 22.5% and 83.2% for the tested engine and the evaluated operation points, attaining the highest efficiency under the full load and 2100 min-1. However, at this load level, the efficiency is reduced to 29% with the increase in the rotation speed. Concurrently, the pumping losses contribute up to 58.7% of the total losses, which indicates that their contribution is even higher than the sum of the other components under low load conditions. However, as the load increases, this contribution decreases to 18% for lower rotation regimes. In addition, the experimental results of the total mechanical losses were compared with some numerical correlations found in the literature. Finally, some empirical correlations were proposed for the mechanical efficiency calculation of the tested engine.
