Opis:
The paper presents the ecological effects of land consolidation carried out in upland loess areas. The design of a large plot of land on a slope with a gradient of up to 18% and its impact on the intensity of water erosion were investigated. The analyzed plot was created by consolidation 12 smaller plots. Before the consolidation, all plots had a cross-slope layout and direction of agrotechnical operations. Exactly the same arrangement remained after the consolidation. The WEPP simulation model was used for the comparison of the pre-consolidation and postconsolidation state. The amount of soil loss and sediment yield was estimated under different scenarios of slope management. It was found that after consolidation (creation of a plot with the width of more than 130 m), as a result of removing of terraces and sodded cross-slope scarps, the intensity of erosion increased many times. In order to restore the anti-erosion effect of cross-slope cultivation on such a slope without increasing the difficulties of agrotechnics, it is necessary to restore the sodded scarps that existed before consolidation. The simulation results show that the scarps should be located transversely to the slope (along the plot) in the middle and lower parts of the slope, in the place of the highest inclination. As advantage of the consolidation project was considered the elimination of longitudinal balks which were focuses of linear erosion on the slope.

Opis:
The article presents the development of a small, midfield form of road, which cuts the side of a loessic valley. The contemporary shape of the surface was determined by GPS measurements (Leica System 500), set together in ArcView and ArcGIS. Changing of its position was determined by a field analysis of the construction of 50 profiles of the Luvisols with varying degrees of erosion or aggradation. Calculation and visualization were performed in the ‘Surfer’ program. The results are interpreted in the context of changes in the agrarian structure since the end of the 19th century. It was found that the development of erosional forms is associated with an intensive use, since the late 1930s, of the road traced at the end of 19th century. Significant rate of its cutting is also the result of earlier soil erosion, due to its agricultural use since the late Middle Ages. Until achieving the depth of about 1 m, the form was the shape of a trough, because the road also served as a zone of turning round during the cultivation of the adjacent transversal-slope fields. In the 1970s, after a change in cultivation mode, erosion took the form of a box-like section. The average annual rate of cutting into the deepest section increased from 2.5 to4 cm and the depth - to 1.8 m. These conclusions confirm the profile of deposits on the extended cone at the gully mouth at the valley bottom. Their lower series, with thickness of 1.7 m and a massive structure, are products of soil erosion accumulated for several hundred years. The laminated top series with thickness of 0.8 m is distinguished by CaCO3 content growing towards the surface. Its accumulation at a rate of 1.2 cm per year is the result of a deeper cutting of the road on the slope.

Opis:
Anthropogenic alterations of the recent millennia of our era, in the loess areas of the Lublin Upland are clearly visible in the composition and character of the sediments that fill river valleys. This paper is an attempt to review this issue on the example of a small river valley that runs through the loess relief regions near Lublin. Samples were taken from deep drilling (up to 6 m) in the three cross-sections of the valley (Ożarów, Jastków, Snopków). A total of 172 samples taken from 5 drillings were investigated. The results obtained allow to conclude that delluvial processes dominated in the course of sediment formation that filled the Ciemięga river valley. Those delluvial processes started in the Neolyth by climatic changes and cutting down forests for the incoming agriculture - and have been intensified since the Middle Ages up till now. It is seen in a clear correlation between the growing part of ash components and mineral interbeddings in the peat deposits, as well as in the presence of cereal grains and weed pollen from cultivated fields in the investigated samples. In the chemical composition of the sediments, anthropogenic enrichment of K, P, Fe, Mn, Pb, Cr, Cu, Zn, and Co is observed.

Opis:
Two years`investigations of water quality of Ciemiegga river situated in eroded loess region fully agriculturally used were conducted in 1996 and 1997. It was found that chemical composition of river water was not affected by erosion processes, except of phosphorus compounds. It was only under the geochemical processes.
