Technology has tremendously shaped human society, economy and environment. The quest for better ways to human development has always been a key driver of technological advancement. However, such advancements have somewhat turned human beings to slaves of modern technology, its effects are therefore devastating. Several philosophers of technology have described technology as alienating: making humans lose their connection with fellow beings and nature, besides causing environmental degradation. Even though civilisation faces new unprecedented challenges regarding the negative impacts of technology on human societies, it can still be useful. This work posits that environmental challenges threatening humanity are not something that can be simply overcome by reducing or increasing technological use, but rather by humans re-thinking the attitude in which technology is applied to the environment. This study investigates the possibility of environmental sustainability through the ethics of anthropoholism. This work agrees with several environmentalists that the traditional anthropocentric attitude, which sees the environment only as a store-house for human exploitation with the use of technology is the major reason behind environmental degradation. This research reveals that humans need to adopt the ethics of anthropoholism, which sees the environment as having inherent value and humans as caretakers of the environment. Anthropoholism is the idea that human beings are a part of nature and that (s)he cannot exist independently of the environment, hence technological tools should be developed and applied with the live and let live attitude towards the environment. This study, as philosophical research, is critical in approach and uses the textual and contextual analytic method in arriving at its conclusions.

Opis:
handelt sich um Lexik und Kollokationen, die mit dem Fußball im Zusammenhang stehen. Der Grund dafür ist, dass Fußball heutzutage der populärste Sport in Deutschland ist. Fußball schauen nicht nur die deutschen, sondern auch die ausländischen Zuschauer und in der Bundesliga oder anderen Ligen spielen auch die ausländischen Fußballspieler, die die deutsche Sprache und Fußballausdrücke als Fremdsprache lernen müssen. Die deutsche Sprache, so wie jede Sprache, hat ein System von kombinatorischen Regeln in der Lexik, das spezifisch, also idiosynkratisch ist. Deshalb ist selbstverständlich, dass die festen Wortverbindungen anders strukturiert sind, wie in den anderen Sprachen. Das Ziel des Beitrags ist, einen Vorschlag für ein Glossar der Kollokationen zu erfassen, das die Lexik und Kollokationen dieses Themas auf optimale Art und Weise abdeckt.
Abstract: The article presents a linguistic analysis of the German vocabulary. We will deal with the lexis and collocations that are related to football. The reason is that football is the most popular sport in Germany today. Football catches the interest not only of German viewers, but also foreign viewers. In the Bundesliga or other leagues in German there are also foreign football players who need to learn the German language and football terms as a foreign language. The German language, like any other language, has a system of combinatorial rules in lexicons that is specific and idiosyncratic. Therefore, collocations are structured differently from other languages. The aim of the article is to create a collocation glossary that optimally covers the lexis and collocations of this subject area.

The live broadcast of different, socially important events is nowadays no longer reserved only for radio and television. The live-ticker, a result of various media convergence processes, is a multimodal and interactive set of institutional reports, journalists’ and politicians’ opinions, pictures, short films and social media posts, that 24/7 provides the most up-to-date information on a specific topic. The article is an investigation into the media genre live-ticker with a focus on its multimodal structure, the language-image relations, as well as aspects of hypertextuality. Finally, I want to show what the live ticker differs from similar forms of online broadcasting. The corpus are three Danish live-tickers that provided the most detailed report on the trial of the Danish entrepreneur and designer Peter Madsen: bt.dk, ekstrabladet.dk and jyllands-posten.dk. Madsen murdered in 2017 a Swedish journalist Kim Wall, for which he was sentenced in April 2018 to life imprisonment.

We investigated changes in diversity and density of testate amoebae in epiphytes of trees in tropical montane rain forests of southern Ecuador. Local – microscale [height on tree trunk of 0 (base of tree trunk), 1 and 2 m; TH I, TH II and TH III, respectively] and regional – macroscale (forests at 1000, 2000 and 3000 m) changes were investigated. At the macroscale diversity and density of testate amoebae peaked at 2000 m. At the microscale diversity reached a maximum at TH I, whereas density reached a maximum at TH III. The percentage of empty shells at the macroscale was at a maximum at 2000 m and at the microscale at TH I, whereas the percentage of live cells was at a maximum at 3000 m and at TH III. The diversity of testate amoebae in epiphytes found in the present study was high (113 species). However, only two to nine species were dominant representing 54–85 percent of total living testate amoebae. The results suggest significant variations in density and diversity of testate amoebae at both the micro- and macroscale. However, for testate amoebae density the macroscale appears most important whereas changes in diversity are more pronounced at the microscale

Opis:
Large span soil-steel culverts are rarely used in Finland as vehicular underpasses. The large span and low soil cover height together with high traffic loads place high demands on the construction of culvert backfills. Traffic-induced stress changes and the fatigue resistance of the plates play a major role in the endurance of a culvert. According to design calculations, the most critical section of the culvert is the crown. For this reason, the focus of this project is on the assessment of the structural behaviour and performance of the crown area under the influence of traffic load. The structural performance of the culvert was verified by monitoring stress changes and deformations under live railway traffic, which proved the suitability of the multi-plated culvert built under a railway.

The quest for and the discovery of the meaning of life, so basic to human existence, play a fundamental role in the process of self‑discovery, that is, in the examination of our own identity, subjectivity and the “self”. Underlying this quest are not merely vague approximations to what man is, but clear fundamental dimensions of humanity: freedom and responsibility.Etty Hillesum and Victor Frankl, take different perspectives on the meaning of life of a person who experiences himself, the world, others and God in the face of war and extreme circumstances (Etty perished in Auschwitz, Frankl survived the concentration camps). However, they both point to the universal trait of the utmost engagement of the will and the assumption of responsibility for one’s life, despite the inevitability of death and the prevalent “cultural hibernation”.In both analyses, freedom appears as a response to reality, to the here and now. That response, as such, means taking responsibility for reality and its shape. Hence it an important question to ask would be what it means to take control of one’s destiny. Is it an obligation, a task, life’s demand, or perhaps just submission to what life may bring? Freedom, which is constantly threatened, must fight for itself. This happens owing to the will to live, which first evokes meaning and then the obligation of taking responsibility for oneself, for others, and even for God himself.

Introduction: The study aimed to assess the influence of rhinoplasty on the quality of different aspects of life. The study group included 79 patients with congenital or posttraumatic nasal deformities (38 males, 41 females) aged from 17 to 49 (mean age 20 years) with open septorhinoplasty. Materials and Methods: Quality of life was assessed before and 3 months after surgery, using the WHOQOL-BREF questionnaire. Other patient data including demographic data, other surgeries and comorbidities were also registered. Completion of 71 preoperative and 70 postoperative questionnaires was accomplished. R esults showed statistically significant differences in the quality of life in all domains. Discussion and conclusion: Based on the conducted studies and after analysis of available literature, it may be concluded that functional and plastic surgeries including septorhinoplasty have an influence on the quality of life. To control postoperative results, tools evaluating this aspect should be used.

The importance of visual input in the contemporary ELT classroom is such that it is commonplace to use audiovisual elements provided by pictures, films, clips and the like. The power of images is unquestionable, and as the old saying goes, an image is worth a thousand words. Following this line of reasoning, the objective of this article is to discuss the potential of one particular type of audiovisual material – live action shorts – in the ELT context. In the first section, reference to previous work is made. Then, the article explores the main features of live action shorts. In the second part possible uses are discussed and a descriptive framework is sketched so that it can be used systematically as a tool for analysis and language exploitation. The overall idea is to focus on shorts not as a complement or decoration but as the starting point of ELT lessons.

This article examines perceptions and systems of time and temporality in live-action role-playing (larp). Taking cues from the work of management game scholar Timo Lainema, the article presents examples of the effects of game duration, asynchronicity, and boredom, and then offers a new option for viewing time at, and in, larp play.
Artykuł zajmuje się percepcją i systemami reprezentacji czasu i czasowości w larpach (live-action role-playing games). Na podstawie prac Timo Lainema, badacza gier menedżerskich, niniejszy artykuł przedstawia przykładowe efekty czasu trwania gry, asynchroniczności i nudy, a następnie proponuje nowe podejście do postrzegania czasu na - i w - larpach.

Artykuł zajmuję się szerokim obszarem e-sportu i dotyka problemu badawczego jakim jest bierne uczestnictwo w transmisjach e-sportowych oraz sposobów konsumpcji transmisji e-sportowych przez widzów. Wyróżnione zostały dwa cele artykułu: 1) eksploracja zachowań i motywacji widzów rozgrywek e-sportowych oraz 2) ocena platformy streamingowej video game live Twitch wśród widzów e-sportu. W artykule weryfikowane są hipotezy dotyczące oceny jakości platformy Twitch wśród widzów e-sportu oraz hipotezy dotyczące ich zachowań i motywacji (czasu poświęcanego na oglądanie e-sportu, sposobów realizowania tej aktywności oraz czynników motywujących do takiej formy spędzania czasu). E-sport jest dynamicznie rozwijającą się zjawiskiem sportowo-widowiskowym o stale rosnącym znaczeniu rynkowym. Dodatkowo jest on relatywnie słabo zbadany w literaturze naukowej, co implikuje istotność prowadzenia badań w jego zakresie. Do eksploracji wybranego obszaru badawczego oraz zweryfikowania postawionych hipotez wykorzystano metody ilościowe. Dane zostały zebrane wśród respondentów techniką CAWI. W celu pomiaru jakości serwisu Twitch zastosowano autorską metodę bazującą na modyfikacji metody E-Servqual. Uzyskane dane zapewniają dodatkowy wgląd w analizowanie e-sportu z perspektywy zjawiska widowiskowego o sportowym charakterze oraz pomagają zrozumieć percepcję widzów e-sportu w stosunku do platform streamingowych video game live. Wyniki badania wskazują na to, że widzowie e-sportu są aktywnymi graczami gier, których rozgrywki oglądają. Do biernego uczestnictwa w e-sporcie dodatkowo motywuje ich chęć rozrywki oraz zainteresowanie daną grą. Uzyskane wyniki potwierdzają dominującą pozycje platformy Twitch. Dane wskazują jednak, że jej użytkownicy nie są w pełni zadowoleni z jakości jaką ona oferuje dla widzów rozgrywek e-sportowych.
This article covers the broad area of e-sports and touches on the research problem of passive participation in e-sports broadcasts and the ways in which viewers consume e-sports broadcasts. Two goals of the article are distinguished: 1) the exploration of the behavior and motivation of viewers of e-sports games, and 2) the evaluation of the video game live streaming platform Twitch among e-sports viewers. The article verifies hypotheses concerning the evaluation of the quality of the Twitch platform among e-sports viewers, as well as hypotheses concerning their behavior and motivation (time spent watching e-sports, ways of realizing this activity, and factors motivating this form of spending time). E-sport is a rapidly growing sports-viewing phenomenon with an ever-increasing market significance. In addition, it is relatively poorly studied in the scientific literature, which implies the relevance of conducting research in its field. Quantitative methods were used to explore the selected research area and verify the hypotheses. Data were collected among respondents using the CAWI technique. A proprietary method based on a modification of the E-Servqual method was used to measure the quality of the Twitch service. The data obtained provide additional insight into analyzing e-sports from the perspective of a sports-themed spectator phenomenon and help to understand the perception of e-sports viewers toward video game live streaming platforms. The results of the study indicate that e-sports viewers are active players of the games they watch play. Their passive participation in e-sports is further motivated by their desire to be entertained and their interest in a particular game. The results obtained confirm the dominant position of the Twitch platform. However, the data indicate that its users are not fully satisfied with the quality it offers to viewers of e-sports games.

Dynamic changes in professional communication mediated through digital media leads to a transformation of the existing types of text. This article focuses on the tennis live ticker as a new hybrid form of sports reporting, which gives internet and app users the opportunity to participate in a given sports event ‘just in time’ and to comment it online asynchronously. The non-linearity, multimodality, hypertextuality and the level of expertise represented by tennis-live-tickers require the recipient to be particularly interactive. In comparison to conventional sports reports and commentaries in the press or on television, the semiotic resources of the live ticker offer a unique way of conveying specialist content in digital media. The differences in the journalistic form of presentation, text structure and adaptation to the reception requirements of the medium are explored in the selected texts of the German and Polish tennis live tickers from online press and live score websites.
Dynamiczny rozwój komunikacji w mediach cyfrowych skutkuje transformacjami w obszarze istniejących typów tekstów. Przedmiotem rozważań w niniejszym artykule jest tekst relacji na żywo online z meczów tenisowych (live-ticker) jako nowa hybrydowa forma sprawozdania lub komentarza sportowego, która daje użytkownikom internetu i odpowiednich aplikacji możliwość uczestniczenia w bieżącym wydarzeniu sportowym ‚just in time’ i komentowania go online. Nieliniowość, hipertekstualność, multimodalność i poziom wiedzy specjalistycznej jako cechy charakterystyczne live-tickera tenisowego wymagają od odbiorcy szczególnej aktywności. W porównaniu z tradycyjnymi relacjami sportowymi i komentarzami zasoby semiotyczne tickera oferują specyficzny sposób przekazywania specjalistycznych treści w mediach cyfrowych. Artykuł wskazuje na różnice w dziennikarskiej formie prezentacji, strukturze tekstu i dostosowaniu do wymogów recepcyjnych podyktowanych przez samo medium na podstawie wybranych tekstów niemieckich i polskich relacji na żywo z meczów tenisowych z prasy online i aplikacji z wynikami na żywo.

Permanent hearing damage, which was diagnosed in the postlingling period - prevents “normal” life. Adult, mature people who until now had certain social roles and activities, suddenly experienced the phenomenon of exclusion as a result of hearing loss, which leads in many cases to personal dramas. The aim of the research was to determine the possibility of improving the quality of life of patients with postlingual deafness after implanting the cochlear implant. The study involved 96 patients aged 30-75 years, postlingally deaf, equipped with a cochlear implant. The study used the CES-D questionnaire, the PANAS-PL questionnaire and the diagnostic survey method (questionnaire survey). The results of the study show that in the majority of patients after implantation, there was a subjectively evaluated improvement associated with activity in various spheres of life. The use of the cochlear implant in post-lethal hearing impaired patients allowed to achieve satisfactory auditory functioning, which contributed to the improvement of the quality of life.

Opis:
The aim of the article is an acoustic description of German vowel elongation during live sports commentary. It is not about long vowels that are in time relation to the other segments in the lexeme, but about those that, regardless of the quantity, have an additional duration (over 0.2 seconds) in a particular communication situation. The research material consists of two sports commentaries. The first concerns Germany‘s victory in the quarter-finals of the 2017 IIHF World Hockey Championship; the second - the gold medal won by Gesa Krause during the women‘s 3000 metres steeplechase at the 2018 European Athletics Championships.

Opis:
Despite numerous publications on the soundscape of Wroclaw and the history of major music festivals like Jazz nad Odrą, not enough attention has been devoted to the local, independent activity of popular music artists. This article is a contribution to contemporary research into the popular music scene in Wroclaw. The author has carried out his own research in the summer and autumn of 2019, focusing on rock music and jazz. This is because, according to surveys, these types of music are most often indicated as specific to Wroclaw. The author’s goal is to indicate the reasons for the popularity of specific popular types of music and to determine the features specific to the popular music scene in Wroclaw. Into account is taken the history of the city and the repertoire of contemporary concerts as well as the reception of the events and the soundscape of places and the entire city. The author presents the methodology (sound walks, participant observation, surveys, interviews) using literature on the subject of popular music studies, soundscape studies and performance studies.
