Artykuł poświęcony jest analizie kategorii przestrzeni literackiej potraktowanej tu jako metafora odniesiona raczej do wymiarów doświadczenia tożsamościowego, pamięci i postpamięci niż jako termin spacjologiczny sensu stricto. Przedmiotem rozważań jest powieść Anny Boleckiej Biały kamień, a ściślej – ukryte w niej tropy zatartej i wypartej pamięci o żydowskiej (współ)genealogii dzisiejszej polskości. Analizy poetyki powieściowej prowadzą do ujawnienia wagi postaci kobiecych, które prócz ściśle fabularnych funkcji pełnią też role wielkiej metafory utraconej (żydowskiej) matki dzisiejszej, w dominującym stopniu katolickiej, Polski. Szczególną wagę mają tu obrazy o charakterze abiektalnym, zgodnie z intuicją Julii Kristevej, ujawniające ambiwalentny charakter relacji dziecko-matka i tym samym wskazujące na dialektyczny charakter nie-pamięci (katolickich) Polaków o ich żydowskich korzeniach.
The article analyzes the category of literary space which is understood here rather as a metaphor of experiencing identity, memory and post-memory than as a spatial term sensu stricto. The author reflects on the novel by Anna Bolecka, Biały kamień [White stone], and more specifically on the hidden tropes of the blurred and denied past memories  of Jewish genealogical component of today’s Polishness. The reading of the novel’s poetics demonstrates the importance of female characters that, apart from their function in the plot construction, figuratively signify the lost Jewish mother of today’s, mostly Catholic, Poland. In addition, following the thinking of Julia Kristeva, of special significance are the images of abject art.

The articles analyzes the poetics in Sylwia Chutnik’s Cwaniary. It is the audacious parody of urban courtyard ballad about four Warsaw feminist scallywags (Polish: 'cwaniary') who fist-fight to take control in the city. The author of the article demonstrates thatWarsaw is not merely the novel’s background scenery but also its main character. By analyzing the poetics of the city in the context of Chutnik’s metatextual remarks and her city guide Warszawa Kobiet (Women’s Warsaw) the author concentrates on the function of description to evoke the Warsaw genius loci. It is in the descriptive parts of the book that the writer particularly demonstrates her fascination with the city, which she herself calls ‘sickness’. This picture of Warsaw results from Chutnik’s social activism and from the attempts to ‘tame’ the place whose traumatic past leaves traces in her literary works.

The article presents the way of domesticating the space of the health resort and hospital in three works of Miron Białoszewski: The Heart Attack, Konstancin and The Letters to Eumenides. The illness – in 1974 first and then in theyear 1983, second heartattack – forces thewriterto stay consecutively in unfamiliar health resorts, and at the same time it opens a new stage in his life and work. Following the assumptions of geopoetics that the way of seeing space is associated with the activity and the perception of the entity, as well as taking into account the causative role of the places, I analyze the changes occurring in Białoszewski’s health resort texts. I further present the stages of constructing the “self” and demonstrate the importance of space of the health resort and hospital in each of the stages.

The topos of the dacha – like the topos of the city (St. Petersburg) and that of the garden – is an important element of the spatial dimension of Alexander Kushner’s poetic world. The article attempts to trace the productivity and functionality of the topos in selected texts of this contemporary poet. Attention is drawn to the characteristics of the categories of time and space, the constituents of the life on the dacha , as well as connections with the literary tradition. When taking up the subject, Kushner updates the rich semantics of the topos: the dacha as a place of retreat for a poet, a place of rest and work, the little homeland, a paradise on Earth.
Топос дачи – наравне с топосом города (Петербурга) и сада – является существенным элементом пространственной картины мира А. С. Кушнера. В статье рассматривается функционирование топоса в выбранных стихотворениях поэта, выявляется своеобразие пространственно-временной характеристики дачи и ее бытовых составляющих, а также указываются связи с литературной традицией. Обращаясь к дачной теме, поэт актуализирует богатую семантику топоса: дача как место уединения, приют поэта, место отдыха и труда, малая родина, (земной) рай.

The article shows a baroque hortus ludi (the garden of entertainment) in the perspective of geopoetics. The subject of explorations are chosen works of seventeenth century’s poets in the base of which there was considered this studied phenomenon. There was demonstrated to what extent real places could inspire authors who were writing about noble or baronial patios and on the other hand, there was made a try of designation how the literary creation builds subjected places for a potential receiver (reader). As a result of analysis it was alleged that descriptions of baroque hortus ludi – creations of places processed in poet’s mind, characterised by aspect of being painterly, which can inspire not only landscape architects, but also painters and other artists.In the article there was also considered a genesis of baroque gardens of entertainment and distinctive features of park-garden assumptions, starting with medieval times to baroque. Hortus ludi present in poetry of seventeenth century was shown in new, geopoethical conceptualization.
Artykuł ukazuje barokowy hortus ludi (ogród zabaw) w perspektywie geopoetyki. Przedmiotem eksploracji są wybrane utwory poetów XVII wieku, na podstawie których badane zjawisko zostało poddane refleksji. Wykazano, na ile rzeczywiste miejsca mogły inspirować autorów opisujących szlacheckie bądź magnackie wirydarze, a z drugiej strony podjęto próbę określenia, w jakim stopniu kreacja literacka buduje miejsca poddane deskrypcji u potencjalnego odbiorcy dzieła literackiego (czytelnika). W wyniku analizy stwierdzono, że opisy barokowych hortus ludi to kreacje miejsc przetworzone w umyśle poety, odznaczające się aspektem malarskości, który może inspirować nie tylko architektów krajobrazu, ale również malarzy i innych artystów.W artykule uwzględniono także genezę barokowych ogrodów zabaw i cechy charakterystyczne parkowo-ogrodowych założeń począwszy od średniowiecza po barok. Obecny w poezji XVII wieku hortus ludi ukazano w nowym, geopoetycznym ujęciu.

The indefinite character of liminality seems to infallibly invite radical solutions: the margin is the locus of the aporia: a non-encounter with a non-language in a non-space. It is there that the Spanish conquistadors located the native peoples of the Americas, construing them as “out of place” in the place in which they had dwelled since the times immemorial; it is there that the thinkers of the Age of Reason would relegate phenomena defying rationalist argumentation or empirical proof, yet undeniably felt as present; it is finally there that individuals driven by empathy end  up today amidst the ruthless political tug-of-war between 21st century nationalisms and progressive advocacy of freedom and equality. The mirage of greatness, poisoning the minds of many, calls into existence discourses of degradation and deprivation; the self-proclaimed “righteous” need a scapegoat to purge their own sins; the necessary condition of “being great” is the legitimization of the fallacy of someone else’s insignificance. with alt-facts ousting hard facts from the public space, with Orwellian media shamelessly creating realities based on the binarity of familiarity and enmity, with all visible attempts to silence the academic humanities, arts and letters by means of massive cuts in funding, the marginalization of those who find the “he who is not with us is against us” philosophy abhorrent gains significant momentum. But it is not in the margins that the monsters awaken: it is in the very heart of the well-defined center that fear rules unchecked while coercion, wearing white gloves, and walking hand in hand with blatant lies that boost fearful egos, facilitates turning a blind eye to cynical oppression, rendering the alleged winners actual victims of their own would-be “greatness.” More thresholds, more limits, all designed to keep the Others out, but all trapping those drawing the demarcation lines within, are being called into existence with increasing speed and intensity; yet the tighter the grip of the stultifying discourse is, the larger the space of the margin, the more obvious the aporias.

Der vorliegende Beitrag soll ein Versuch sein, den dokumentarisch-literarischen Text aus der Sicht des Literaturdiskurses zu erhellen, indem asthetisches Subjekt im Fokus der Diskurspraktiken dargestellt wird. Die Diskursanalyse der Elias Canettis Memoiren soll kommunikative Strategien der Autorinstanz aufdecken, die den Aufschluss daruber geben, dass die Originalitat der Autorenversion des Weltbildes auf der Idee des immer offenen Lebensraums und der fruchtbaren Wechselbeziehungen vielfaltiger kultureller Erscheinungen beruht, was die Logik der Entstehung des Ich-Erzahlers bestimmt.
The present article is intended to be an attempt to illuminate the documentary- literary text from the perspective of literary discourse by presenting an aesthetic subject in the focus of discourse practices. The discourse analysis of Elias Canetti’s memoirs would have to uncover communicative strategies of the author’s instance. They provide information that the originality of the author’s version of the worldview is based on the idea of the always-open living space and the fruitful interrelationships of diverse cultural phenomena, which is the logic of the genesis of the alter ego and determined by the narrator.

Recenzja śledzi najnowsze losy terminu geopoetyka. Celem artykułu jest usytuowanie koncepcji badawczej Elżbiety Rybickiej na tle dotychczasowych badań zajmujących się przestrzenią. Wykorzystując zaproponowane przez badaczkę odsłony geopoetyki, teoria zostaje rozbita na aspekt poetologiczny, geograficzny, antropologiczny oraz performatywny. Geopoetyka zostaje zestawiona z rozważaniami przestrzennymi Petera Sloterdijka (przestrzeń rozrastająca się) i „kulturą obecności” Hansa Ulricha Gumbrechta, co pozwala rozszerzyć rozważania przestrzenne o ujęcie humanistyki nieantropocentrycznej.
This review traces the recent vicissitudes of the term “geopoetics.” The purpose of the article is to situate the scholarly concept developed by Elżbieta Rybicka in the context of previous studies of space. Using her proposed framework of geopoetics, theoretical work on space is broken down into its poetological, geographical, anthropological, and performative aspects. Geopoetics becomes juxtaposed with the spatial thought of Peter Sloterdijk (proliferating space) and Hans Ulrich Gumbrecht’s “culture of space,” allowing reflection on space to be expanded to include a non-anthropocentric interpretation of the humanities.

This essay concerns the fiction works of some Polish writers who made their literary debuts after 1989 (A. Stasiuk, P. Siemion, W. Kowalewski, Z. Kruszyński, K. Varga). Analysis of the urban space in their novels and tales based on three chronotopes (Bachtin) – center, street, road – serves to define certain characteristics of the hero and of the literary narrative mode. In the Polish literary city of the post-socialist era, there is now no trace of the flâneur: replaced with the figure of a wanderer or fugitive, the hero of Polish literary fiction is lost in urban centers that take on the unique characteristics of the labyrinth. In this can be sought the reason behind the revived popularity of the theme of travel in the new Polish prose.
Esej dotyczy belektrystycznej twórczości niektórych pisarzy debiutujących po 1989 roku (A. Stasiuk, P. Siemion, W. Kowalewski, Z. Kruszyński, K. Varga). Analiza przestrzeni miejskiej w ich powieściach i opowiadaniach na podstawie trzech chronotopów (Bachtin) – centrum, ulica, droga – pozwala zdefiniować pewne cechy bohatera literackiego oraz sposób narracji. W polskim literackim mieście epoki postsocjalistycznej już nie ma śladu flâneura: zastąpiony postacią wędrowca lub uciekiniera, bohater polskich fikcji literackich gubi się w ośrodkach miejskich, które przyjmują specyficzne cechy labiryntu. W tym można doszukiwać się przyczyny ponownego powodzenia i przywrócenia wartości paradygmatu podróży w nowej polskiej prozie.

Specifically, the function of photography within the narration is analyzed here. In conclusion, photographs, despite their strong referential charge, do not in any way diminish the undoubted textualization of space in Sebald’s works.

Celem artykułu jest ukazanie zależności między konstrukcją przestrzeni w Studni i wahadle Edgara Allana Poego a kreacją bohatera opowiadania – więźnia hiszpańskiej Inkwizycji, poddawanego skomplikowanym torturom. Odwołując się do ustaleń z zakresu geopoetyki oraz do koncepcji fokalizacji w ujęciu Mieke Bal i Shlomith Rimmon-Kennan, autorka analizuje wpływ przestrzeni na zmysły i emocje podmiotu w sytuacji deprywacji sensorycznej. Podejmuje także kwestię ważnych w twórczości Poego i widocznych w opowiadaniu wątków, takich jak tafefobia, gotycyzm oraz idee oświeceniowe. W toku analizy dowodzi, że konstrukcja podmiotu w opowiadaniu wynika w głównej mierze ze sposobu, w jaki doświadcza on i opisuje przestrzeń więziennej celi.
The article aims to show the relationship between the construction of space in Edgar Allan Poe's The Pit and the Pendulum and the creation of the story's protagonist – a prisoner of the Spanish Inquisition who suffers elaborate torture. Relying on geopoetics and the concept of focalization as understood by Mieke Bal and Shlomith Rimmon-Kennan, the author analyzes the impact of space on the senses and emotions of the subject in a situation of sensory deprivation. She also addresses various themes, important in Poe's work and evident in the story, such as teraphobia, gothicism and the ideas of Enlightenment. In the course of the analysis, she argues that the way the prisoner experiences and describes the space of the prison cell becomes the focal point for the construction of the literary subject in this short story.

The paper summarizes some remarks on the metaphor of map, as it is used within the field of geopoetics. The first of its meanings refers to representation of literary space in a work of fiction. The second is often applied to describe an imaginary vision of real geographic (political, economic etc.) space. It is therefore determined (or “created”) by culture, or rather by innumerable cultural texts, which affect our common, i.e. culture-dependent imagination. In both cases “the map” should not be considered as a representation in its traditional meaning of something essentially present or given. Instead, Deleuzian metaphors of the rhizome and the fold seem more convenient here, as they highlight this unready, process- and interpretation-dependent character. The sets of metaphorical notions, such as “fold/ply”, “double fold/twofold/two-ply” and “folding/creasing/ironing imaginary maps” are used in this paper to clarify the idea of “antechamber effect”. In consequence, this is a phenomenon which, within the realm of literary imagination, renders some real territories with weak cultural potential nonexistent.

The article is an attempt at reading Natalia Fiedorczuk’s text Jak pokochać centra handlowe [How to fall in love with shopping centers] in the perspective of Marc Aug´e’s theory of non-places (non-lieux) and Ewa Rewers’ concept of the subject as a non-place. The author uses the strategy in which attributes of non-place as a physical space are combined with the ontological status of the subject. It lets me define depressive condition of the mother as a transitive one, constituted on the figures of movement, anonymity and loneliness. This strategy also incorporates into maternity discourse the issues marginalized in cultural awareness (depression, emotion policy and maternal memory).

Opis:
This paper deals with Gombrowicz’s novel Pornografia which is interpreted as a third space where different literary discourses and philosophical concepts are interwoven. Of a special interest are in this respect two German authors: Thomas Mann and Friedrich Nietzsche. It is the aim of this article to show, to what extent Gombrowicz refers to writings of these two authors in his attempt to establish himself as an important writer in the conditions of his exile in Argentina. The novel Pornografia works in this respect as sphere of interferences and space of emerging hybridity, where Gombrowicz is creating a special textuality consisting of hidden references to and even polemics with Mann and Nietzsche, respectively. The notion of conflict is thus applicable in the description of the literary practice Gombrowicz resorts to in writing his novel.
