This article deals with the constructions of „Matoš” in Croatian histories of literature. Central for the study is Alum Munslow’s thesis that history cannot be „non-narrative”. In that respect the relationship between hi/story and narrative genre is studied on examples of how the „character” of Antun Gustav Matoš, one of the most famous Croatian writers from the beginning of twentieth century, is both perceived and constructed in historical narrative and in philological context that is discursively circled by the narrative.

The article discusses problems for native speakers and foreigners when reading literary texts during Polish language classes. Two important books are presented here (K. Koziołek, 2006; A. Janus¬ Sitarz, 2009). It also refers to publications about the importance of literature in teaching and the role of the teacher (J. Kowalikowa 2004, B. Chrząstowska 1979, 2009). The author of the article also compares the theory of A. Janus¬ Sitarz (designed for teaching Polish as a mother tongue) with J. Spiro’s concept of 6 reading types (concerning the function of literary texts in teaching Polish as a foreign language). The author concentrates on the problem of responsible reading (as described by M.P. Markowski, 2000) and on teaching being understood as an invitation to a dialogue with text. K. Koziołek, A. Janus¬ Sitarz and C. Kramsch in glottodidactics recommend this kind of dialogic approach.

The paper deals with the relationship between the literary form and the message of the pericope John 8:31-36 (along with its immediate literary context). Our examination of five different possible literary forms demonstrated that identifying the precise form bears directly on grasping the correct semantics and pragmatics of this Johannine passage. John 8:31-36 actually reflects the merging of at least two different literary forms: misunderstanding (also called riddle and test) and the covenantal offer of freedom. The ultimate meaning of the text, taken as a whole, should be seen as the offer of freedom. This, however, is misunderstood and eventually rejected by Jesus’ interlocutors, who failed to recognize in Jesus God, the Redeemer and Liberator, and thus did not pass the test of being his true disciples.

Opis:
Reading literary works gives the opportunity to explore various issues related to one’s own development, enriches the process of thinking and experience. It is on the basis of intellectual experience where the educational impact of literature begins, motivating to reflection and evaluation. Metaphors and symbols in the text allow the performance of emotional insight in oneself and realization of what can be done. A mental suggestion appears which is a thought leading to a change in the attitudes and acceptance of new values. Educational process in shaping the values may be supported by reading literature. The article presents the opportunity to broaden the process of upbringing through reading and analysing the book The Master and Margarita.
Czytanie utworów literackich daje możliwość poznania różnych kwestii związanych z własnym rozwojem, wzbogaca proces myślenia i przeżycia. To na gruncie przeżycia intelektualnego rozpoczyna się wychowawcze oddziaływanie literatury, która motywuje do przemyśleń i wartościowania. Metafory i symbole zawarte w tekście pozwalają na przeprowadzenie emocjonalnego wglądu w siebie i uświadomienie tego, co można zrobić. Pojawia się sugestia mentalna, a więc myśl, która prowadzi do zmiany danej postawy i przyjęcia nowych wartości. Proces wychowawczy w kształtowaniu wartości może być wspierany czytaniem literatury. Artykuł ukazuje możliwość poszerzania procesu wychowania przez czytanie i analizę książki Mistrz i Małgorzata.

In this article the hereditary connection between Taras Shevchenko and Ivan Franko’s creative work is studied in Ukrainian literary tradition discourse. Through the prism of Franko’s literary and critical reception of T. Shevchenko’s creative work the causes of coincidences and differences in the ideas and aesthetic conceptions of both writers are determined. The author of the article proves the existance of the indissoluble connection between the different literature generations’ representatives on the idea and content levels, as well as on the formal and aesthetic level. The importance of T. Shevchenko and I. Franko’s creative heritage for Ukrainian culture and literature is also evaluated.

The article explores an intertextual discourse of “Sonety krymskie” by Adam Mickiewicz in Russian and Belarusian literature, its development in the Belarusian literature (20th-21st centuries). Themes, images, subjects that occur in “Sonety krymskie” by A. Mickiewicz have been found in separate works of Belarusian authors – Y. Kupala, M. Bagdanovich, A. Kulyashov, U. Karatkevich, A. Khodanovich. The analysis of different levels of connection between crown of sonnets “Święta studnia” by Jan Czykwin and “Sonety krymskie” by Adam Mickiewicz shows that a hero of the crown of sonnets – undoubtedly a person with a rich inner world – verifies his worldview and life experience, his individual cognitive space with ideals, moral guidelines, that appear in A. Mickiewicz’s works and biography.
W artykule omówiono powstanie dyskursu intertekstualnego „Sonetów krymskich” Adama Mickiewicza w literaturze rosyjskiej i białoruskiej, oraz jego rozwój w literaturze białoruskiej (XX–XXI w.). Motywy, obrazy, tematy podobne do tych występujących w „Sonetach krymskich” można odnaleźć w odrębnych pracach białoruskich autorów: J. Kupały, M. Bagdanovicha, A. Kulashova, U. Karatkievicha, A. Chadanovicha. Podczas analizy różnych poziomów zbieżności między sonetami „Święta studnia” («Sviataya studnia») Jana Czykwina a „Sonetami krymskimi” Adama Mickiewicza wskazano jak liryczny bohater sonetów – niewątpliwie osoba z bogatym światem wewnętrznym – weryfikuje swój światopogląd i doświadczenie życiowe, swoją indywidualną przestrzeń poznawczą z ideałami i wskazówkami moralnymi zawartymi w pracach i faktach biograficznych Adama Mickiewicza.

Opis:
The article deals with two directions of development in Belarusian sonnet writing; the first, named according to its initiator – kupalaŭski (Kupala’s), includes free sonnets; the second, named – bahdanovičaŭski (Bahdanovič’s), includes sonnets according to the classical canon. The author of this article draws attention to the fact that the sonnet, as a kind of verse, holds an important place in Belarusian poetry of the 20 th century and is still relevant today. Belarusian poets, however, often deliberately do not keep to strict sonnet rules: emotion in such works prevails over rationality. With the help of the comparative method it investigates the form and content of the crown of sonnets Śviataja studnia (The Holy Well) by Jan Čykvin compared with the translations of Sonety krymskie (Crimean Sonnets) by Adam Mickiewicz into Belarusian as well as similar works by some Belarusian authors (the crown of sonnets Narač (Lake Narač) by Nil Hilievič, and the crown of sonnets Apakalipsis dušy (Apocalypse of the Soul) by Źmitrok Marozaŭ). The author of this article considers separately the rhythmic structure of the sonnets in Śviataja studnia and the translations of Sonety krymskie. It is shown how the irregular rhythmic structure of the free sonnets creates additional levels of perception of the text. The article concludes that the two directions in Belarusian sonnet writing survived in parallel throughout the 20th century and continued into the 21st. And if the first direction (emotionally determined) dominated at the beginning, the second direction (rationally determined), at the current stage of the Belarusian literary process, has expanded significantly in the work of Belarusian authors.
W artykule zostały omówione dwa nurty rozwoju białoruskiej sonetystyki: nurt klasyczny zainicjowany przez Maksima Bahdanowicza (tzw. nurt bahdanowiczowski) oraz nurt awangardowy, zapoczątkowany przez Jankę Kupałę (tzw. nurt kupałowski). Autor podkreśla, że sonet jako gatunek literacki zajmuje ważne miejsce w poezji białoruskiej XX w. i jest wykorzystywany również współcześnie. Białoruscy poeci często świadomie nie przestrzegali zasad kompozycyjnych sonetu, ponadto preferowali opisy własnych stanów emocjonalnych, elementy racjonalne odsuwając na dalszy plan. Dzięki zastosowaniu metody komparatystycznej analizie poddano formę i treść: cyklu sonetów Święta studnia (Святая студня),przekładów Sonetów krymskich Adama Mickiewicza na język białoruski oraz podobnych utworów poetów białoruskich (cyklu sonetów Narocz (Нарач) Nila Hilewicza oraz Apokalipsy duszy Zmitroka Marozaua). Dokonano również analizysposobu rytmizowania cyklu sonetów Święta studnia Jana Czykwina oraz  przekładu Sonetów krymskich. Wskazano, nieregularne rytmy sonetów wolnych pozwalają na wieloaspektową interpretację tekstu. W artykule udowodniono, że omówione nurty rozwojowe sonetystyki współistniały w w XX w. i funkcjonują w naszych czasach. O ile jednak w twórczości autorów białoruskich początkowo dominował nurt awangardowy, o tyle obecnie obserwujemy powrót do sonetu w jego klasycznej formie. 
У артыкуле разглядаюцца два кірункі развіцця беларускай санетыстыкі; да першага, названага паводле яго ініцыятара купалаўскім, належаць вольныя санеты, да другога, названага – багдановічаўскім – санеты, створаныя паводле класічнага канона. Аўтар артыкула звяртае ўвагу на тое, што санет як від верша займае важнае месца ў беларускай паэзіі ХХ ст. і дагэтуль з’яўляецца актуальным. Аднак беларускія паэты часта свядома не прытрымліваюцца строгіх правіл санета, эмацыянальнае ў такім творы пераважае над рацыянальным. Пры дапамозе кампаратывісцкага метаду даследуецца форма і змест вянка санетаў Святая студня ў супастаўленні з перакладамі Крымскіх санетаў Адама Міцкевіча на беларускую мову, а таксама з падобнымі творамі беларускіх паэтаў (вянок санетаў Нарач Ніла Гілевіча, вянок вянкоў санетаў Апакаліпсіс душы Змітрака Марозава). Асобна разглядаецца рытмічная структура вянка санетаў Святая студня Яна Чыквіна і перакладаў Крымскіх санетаў. Паказана, як іррэгулярная рытмічная структура ў вольных санетах утварае дадатковыя сэнсавыя ўзроўні ўспрыняцця тэксту. У артыкуле сцвярджаецца, што гэтыя два кірункі ў беларускай санетыстыцы паралельна праіснавалі на працягу ўсяго ХХ ст. і перайшлі ў ХХІ ст. І калі напачатку дамінаваў першы (эмоцыа дэтэрмінаваны), то на сучасным этапе беларускага літаратурнага працэсу другі (рацыа дэтэрмінаваны) значна расшырыў свае пазіцыі ў творчасці беларускіх аўтараў.

The vast majority of texts regarding a number of issues connected with the notion of translation describe the translated text as a product – that is as another text rendered into another culture, not even mentioning another language. The idea of this exercise was based upon an attempt of having a look at how exactly the process of translation of a literary text would proceed. All the participants of the exercise wished to see if it would be at all possible to work upon one and the same text, and continue working on it at certain randomly selected points. This short paper is just a small fragment of a much larger work devoted to the process of translation. It is a presentation of a translation exercise undertaken by seven students. Each of the six students have translated two pages, the seventh student was supposed to assemble and unify the translated texts, integrating them into a coherent narration in the target language. All students were asked to try to write down their impressions while they were working on the text, including what was the rationale behind their decisions. As it appears it was not very difficult for the students to come up with quite interesting translations, but it was much more harder for them to describe their choices as translators. As one can notice, the exercise went very well, the students entertained themselves, and at the same time perhaps they also understood a little better that the translation processes worked differently within their minds, even though after all they were working on the text of the same short literary work by Bruno Schultz.

Artykuł przedstawia wybrane refleksje na temat omawianego procesu, prezentowane na łamach tzw. tołstych żurnałow (ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem stanowiska znanej rosyjskiej krytyczki Anny Kuzniecowej), oraz pogląd autorki pracyna ogólny, przejściowy stan rosyjskiej literatury współczesnej.
The article is devoted to modern reconfigurations of the literary process and literature (as a kind of art), experienced in literary criticism as the decline of literature (the thesis “we have no literature” as a statement of the degradation of an art form). The article provides an overview of reflection on this process on Russian “thick journals” (with the emphasis on the position of the well-known Russian critic Anna Kuznetsova), as well as the author’s view on the general transitional state of Russian modern literature.

The idea of this exercise was based upon an attempt of having a look at how exactly the process of translation of a literary text would proceed. This short presentation is just a small fragment of a much larger work devoted to the process of translation” (Chruszczewski 2019: 57–58). It is a presentation of a translation exercise undertaken by ten students coming from two different seminar groups. Each of the students have translated from Polish into English a text of a comparable length. All the students are bilingual, and fluent in English. None of them is a native speaker of English. After the translation exercise was completed the texts were assembled and integrated into a coherent literary narration in the target language. All students were asked to try to write down their impressions while they were translating the text, including what was the rationale behind their decisions. As one can notice, it was relatively easy for the students to provide interesting translations, but the majority of them found it exceptionally difficult to describe their choices as translators. The above can be a hint for future theorists of translation studies to start large scale interdisciplinary projects based on the interesting fact that translation processes (in plural!) can work differently within the minds of translators even if they are almost at the same age and they come from quite similar cultural and linguistic backgrounds.

In the article, a problem of translation of the old Serbian literary texts into Polish is discussed together with the basic mechanisms of the reception process of creativity revealed by the Orthodox Slavs from the Balkan region, that is, in other words, the works arisen in the circle of the Slaviae Orthodoxae and their presence in the Polish culture’s space which belonged to the circle of the Slaviae Latinae. The considerations regard the essence and function of translation, presence and absence of translated literature - its initial version in the target space, and their foundation is located in the collections of translations existing in the Polish reading circuit. The issue of the presence or position of the old South Slavonic literatures, namely, the old Serbian texts in their Polish translation, is featured in several possible perspectives. The problem is exposed in the aspect of these texts’ peripheral character and literary genetics. By dint of the first reference, a phenomenon of asymmetry in the realm of translated literatures is emphasized, which results from the domination of the so-called world literatures and the marginalization of the so-called small literatures along with the translated literary texts’ place - their initial (Old Church Slavonic) status from the view-point of the target (Polish) culture’s space, and their situation in this specific polysystem. The genetic studies’ path, however, is used in order to expose a form of the translated literature’s presence (old Serbian texts in their Polish translation), and to indicate the strategy of its introduction, namely, anthology as a supporting platform of the initial (source) literature in the space of the target culture together with its presentation, dialogical, and intercultural function derived from the authorized genre. In the article’s conclusion, the author accentuates the fact that the collections or individual publications of the old Serbian works, omitting various values of the particular projects and realizations, exist in the Polish reading circuit in order to reflect largely their presence status, knowledge, and need for those concrete South Slavonic literature.

The article is understood as a voice in the discussion over the place of (texts) of culture in teaching (German as) a foreign language at academic level. Its aim is to present the issue of incorporating autobiographical literature in the glottodidactic process and to show its historical and cultural potential used in linguistic education, and in particular in shaping of broadly understood textual competences of philological students.

The authors trace the functioning and interaction of cultural paradigms that determine the time of a long duration. The article discusses some mechanisms of the influence of these paradigms on the modern literary process. The focus of the authors of the article is the study of the literary process by the example of the work of Andrey Platonov and Venedikt Yerofeyev. Analyzed are the prerequisites for changing the boundaries of the dialogue with different cultures, which have become a spiritual reflection of the world-systemic connections of the modern world. The authors trace how spatial, temporal representations and ritual practices are reanimated in the imaginative world of writers, and also study the mechanisms that give rise to deep traditional layers of consciousness, such as trauma, disintegration and drama.
