    The object of analysis in this article is a type of multi-layer description characteristic of Schulz and certain writers and painters of his era. According to the author, Schulz’s descriptions of space include a reflection of two attitudes: 1) a mystical rapture by the sacral world and 2) a sense of degradation of human existence. Simultaneously, however, what manifests itself in them is a fascination with the artificiality typical of the era in which he worked.

    Artykuł rozważa funkcję nadmiarowego detalu w realistycznej deskrypcji, a w szczególności w prozie Gustave’a Flauberta. Analizowany fragment opisu z Prosty serca Flauberta stał się przedmiotem refleksji Rolanda Barthes’a we Wstępie do analizy strukturalnej opowiadań oraz w Efekcie rzeczywistości. Wiszący nad pianinem barometr – ów zbędny szczegół – miałby fundować referencjalne złudzenie, czyli oznaczać samą kategorię „rzeczywistości”. Artykuł przedstawia rozliczne polemiki, jakimi obrosła ta interpretacja, by wyróżnić spośród nich krytyczną rewizję Jacques’a Rancière’a wyłożoną w Le fil perdu. Filozof odwraca tezy Barthes’a: w barometrze pani Aubain dostrzega nie tyle figurę referencjalnej pełni, co znak rozsadzający światoobraz, wymykający się konsensualnym uzgodnieniom. W tej perspektywie nadmiarowy detal jest stricte skandaliczny: stanowi przeszkodę dla interpretacji, która zmierza do zintegrowania wszystkich tekstowych znaków i ujawnia skandaliczną, rudymentarną równość wpisaną w porządek zmysłowego.
    The article discusses the function of redundant details in realistic descriptions, especially in Gustave Flaubert’s prose. The analysed fragment of the description from Gustav Flaubert’s “A Simple Heart” was also discussed by Roland Barthes’ in An Introduction to the. Structural Analysis of Narrative and in The Reality Effect. The barometer hanging over the piano – the mentioned superfluous detail – was supposed to trigger a reference illusion by belonging to the category of “reality”. The article presents numerous views on the mentioned issue. It focuses on what Jacques Rancière writes in Le fil perdu. The philosopher reverses Barthes’ thesis: Namely, Mrs. Aubain’s barometer does not serve as a figure of a referential fullness, but rather as a sign disrupting the image of the world. In this light, the redundant detail is stricte scandalous: it prevents proper interpretation that aims to integrate all text signs and reveals a scandalous, rudimentary equality inscribed in the sensual order.

    Artykuł jest próbą odpowiedzi na pytanie: czy istnieje ściślejszy związek między opisowością tekstu literackiego a jego ilustrowaniem, przy czym zostaje ono zadane z perspektywy redaktora, któremu w udziale przypadło wydanie utworu literackiego i w związku z tym musi podjąć decyzję o wyposażeniu go w warstwę plastyczną lub o zaniechaniu takiego działania. Przywołując przykłady ilustrowanych wydań utworów między innymi Stanisława Lema, Elizy Orzeszkowej czy Adama Mickiewicza, autorzy pokazują, że za decyzją o ilustrowaniu (lub nie) stało wiele różnych czynników od estetycznych, przez wręcz patriotyczne, dydaktyczne, aż po technologiczne i ekonomiczne.
    This article attempts to answer the following question: is there a connection between description and illustration in a literary text? We ask this question from the perspective of the editor who has to publish a literary work and therefore must decide whether to include illustrations or not. We refer to the illustrated editions of works by, among others, Stanisław Lem, Eliza Orzeszkowa and Adam Mickiewicz and demonstrate that the decision to illustrate (or not) was motivated by many different factors – aesthetic, patriotic, didactic, technological and economical.

    Opis:
    The aim of the article is to show the lexical and stylistic diversity of the Polish language used in Upper Silesia, presented by Anna Cieplak, and to indicate the linguistic and cultural processes which the language of younger and older generations living in this region undergoes. The most important of them include the disappearance of the Silesian dialect in the speech of the thirty-year-old heroes and the intensification of vulgarization of the language as a result of the lack of professional and personal prospects in their lives. The lexical layer of the novel is dominated by the colloquial version of the Polish language along with youth slang, with a large number of Anglicisms, and a smaller number – Germanisms, mainly from the sphere of the Internet and stimulants. One can speak of the lexical-stylistic hybridity of the description of the world as a tool for expressing its diversity and complex identity of Silesians.
    Celem artykułu jest ukazanie różnorodności leksykalnej i stylistycznej polszczyzny używanej na Górnym Śląsku, przedstawionej przez Annę Cieplak, oraz wskazanie na procesy językowo-kulturowe, jakim ulega język młodszych i starszych pokoleń zamieszkujących ten region. Do najważniejszych z nich należy zanikanie gwary śląskiej w mowie trzydziestoletnich bohaterów i nasilenie wulgaryzacji języka jako skutek braku w ich życiu perspektyw zawodowych i osobistych. W warstwie leksykalnej powieści dominuje odmiana potoczna polszczyzny wraz z młodzieżowym slangiem, z dużą liczbą anglicyzmów, mniejszą – germanizmów, głównie ze sfery internetu i używek. Można tu mówić o leksykalno-stylistycznej hybrydyczności opisu świata jako narzędzia wyrażania jego różnorodności i złożonej tożsamości Ślązaków.

    The articles analyzes the poetics in Sylwia Chutnik’s Cwaniary. It is the audacious parody of urban courtyard ballad about four Warsaw feminist scallywags (Polish: 'cwaniary') who fist-fight to take control in the city. The author of the article demonstrates thatWarsaw is not merely the novel’s background scenery but also its main character. By analyzing the poetics of the city in the context of Chutnik’s metatextual remarks and her city guide Warszawa Kobiet (Women’s Warsaw) the author concentrates on the function of description to evoke the Warsaw genius loci. It is in the descriptive parts of the book that the writer particularly demonstrates her fascination with the city, which she herself calls ‘sickness’. This picture of Warsaw results from Chutnik’s social activism and from the attempts to ‘tame’ the place whose traumatic past leaves traces in her literary works.

    The subject for the critical and literary comments in the present article is, in the first instance, the collection of essays devoted to the literary output of the Irish Nobel prize-winner Seamus Heaney written by Jerzy Jarniewicz and entitled “Wiersze pod dotyk”. Though this is the chief reason, but not the only one, as this seemingly innocent monograph book turns out to be a gem in itself with regard to the poetical artistry of the Polish author of the essays. And so, the reader finds the following: poetical language of description, poetical sensitivity in reading and a particular poetical manifesto that has a programme-character for Jarniewicz-poet. And all this is revealed form the eponymous “in between”, from between the verses, reading material, fascination and connotations of the author.

    The article analyzes Listy z narodowej pielgrzymki ( Letters from the national pilgrimage ) by Ryszard Berwiński. It is a series of five texts written in prose in which the author tells his impressions from a trip to the vicinity of Gopło, probably in the summer of 1838. At that time, such escapades became fashionable in Poland. The aim of the study is to define the lexis used in the Letters to describe the cultural landscape of Greater Poland in order to identify the aforementioned word material and analyse the way it is used.

    The article is devoted to the 13th century Gospel Book, which is kept in the Russian State Archive of Old Records and registered under reference F. 381, № 7. The aim of the paper is to define the similarity of the manuscript to other old texts according to its content and order of readings. Moreover, the author attempts to find the Gospel Book’s place in the classification of full lectionaries. In the course of the analysis it is stated that the text has various typological features. Despite the fact that in some elements it resembles the South Slavonic Miroslav Gospel, it belongs to the most common type of full lectionaries in Ruthenia among which the leading role is played by Mstislav Gospel. Furthermore, the manuscript reflects the peculiar features of Milata Gospel, which makes it a part of the class of manuscripts represented by this old text of Novgorod.

    In the nineteenth-century European literary tradition the Jew is represented as 'the Other'. The general image is a stereotypical description of the Jew as a parasite, a sorcerer or a villain. Even when one can specify and set down the linguistic, geographical and historical circumstances in which particular novels and stories were written, many of them incorporate the figure of 'the Jew' as a construct that plays a particular role in the narrative.1 Alongside the development of the European fiction, within the Jewish literary context, the new-Hebrew and Yiddish literatures are born and mature.     Rdz 1,1–2,3 to perykopa traktowana zwykle jako tekst jednorodny literacko, przypisywany w całości autorom kapłańskim (P). Jako taka łączona jest też z – istniejącym początkowo niezależnie – dokumentem P (tzw. Grundschrift-P) i uznawana za jego tekst programowy. Współczesne analizy krytycznoliterackie tego tekstu pozwalają jednak dostrzec w nim wiele niekonsekwencji i w związku z tym doszukiwać się w nim trzeba co najmniej trzech etapów wzrostu literackiego.
    Gen 1:1–2:3 is a pericope usually treated as a uniform literary text, entirely assigned to priestly authors (P). As such, it is also combined with the – initially independently existing – document P (so-called Grundschrift-P) and considered as its programming text. Contemporary literary criticism of this text, however, allows us to see many inconsistencies in it and, therefore, it is necessary to look for at least three stages of literary growth.
    Gen 1: 1–2: 3 ist eine Perikope, die normalerweise als einheitlicher literarischer Text behandelt wird und vollständig priesterlichen Autoren zugeordnet ist (P). Als solches wird es auch mit dem - zunächst eigenständig existierenden - Dokument P (der sogenannten Grundschrift-P) kombiniert und als dessen Programmtext betrachtet. Zeitgenössische kritisch-literarische Analysen dieses Textes lassen uns jedoch viele Ungereimtheiten darin erkennen, und deshalb müssen wir in ihm nach mindestens drei Stadien des literarischen Wachstums suchen.

    In the article, a problem of conceiving and depicting of the Turkish authority is taken into account, for the considerations concentrate on the patterns of presentation regarding the Ottoman Turks’ invasion of the Balkan territory, together with their oppressive rule. The above mentioned patterns, present in the Old Serbian literature, were to commemorate all those tragic events. In the Old Serbian texts (pertaining to hagiography, historiography, hymnic literature, and also to the brief literary forms – notations), the Turkish authority was expressed in explicitly negative categories of illegality, violence, and godlessness, presented in the context of the “end of time”, Christian community’s martyrdom, maintained in the eschatological perspective of history’s definition and exegesis, the perspective so characteristic for the Middle Ages.

    В статье демонстрируется влияние Библии на формирование русского литературного языка. Этот процесс объединяет русский язык с литературными языками многих народов, приобщенных к христианской культуре. Рассматриваются библеизмы разного типа, имеющие соответствия в других европейских языках, в том числе славянских. При общности источника библеизмов в языках, находящихся под влиянием христианской культуры, и в русском языке обнаруживаются большие различия как в количестве, так и в качественном составе этих единиц. Специфичность адаптации библеизмов в русском языке проявляется в сочетании книжно-церковного и разговорного (навеянного во многом кальками с европейских языков) начал, значительно обогатившем фонд русских библеизмов. В статье рассматриваются примеры, иллюстрирующие европейский фон усвоения и активизации библеизмов в русском литературном языке. Обобщается и опыт их лекскикографического описания.
    W artykule pokazany jest wpływ Biblii na kształtowanie się rosyjskiego języka literackiego. Proces ten łączy język rosyjski z językami literackimi wielu narodów pozostających pod wpływem kultury chrześcijańskiej. Omówione zostały biblizmy różnego typu, posiadające odpowiedniki w innych językach europejskich, w tym także słowiańskich. Mimo wspólności źródłowej biblizmów w językach będących pod wpływem kultury chrześcijańskiej język rosyjski wykazuje znaczne zróżnicowanie w strukturze tych jednostek zarówno pod względem ilościowym, jak i jakościowym. Specyficzność adaptacji biblizmów w języku rosyjskim przejawia się w połączeniu pierwiastka książkowo-cerkiewnego i potocznego (głównie jako produktu kalk z języków europejskich), który znacznie wzbogacił zasób biblizmów rosyjskich. W artykule analizowane są przykłady ilustrujące europejskie tło przyswojenia i aktywizacji biblizmów w rosyjskim języku literackim. Ukazane są przykłady opisu leksykograficznego analizowanych jednostek.
    The article demonstrates the influence of the Bible on the formation of the Russian literary language. This process unites the Russian language with the literary languages of many other nations who are attached to the Christian culture. The author analyzes bibleisms of different types that have correspondences in other European languages, including Slavic ones. With the common source of biblical texts in languages influenced by Christian culture, in Russian also great differences are found both in the number and in the qualitative composition of these units. The specificity of the adaptation of bibleisms in the Russian language is manifested in the combination of old-church and colloquial (inspired in many ways by tracing from European languages), which greatly enriched the fund of Russian bibleisms. The article examines examples illustrating the European background of the assimilation and activation of bibleisms in the Russian literary language. The experience of their lexicographical descriptions is also generalized.
