Opis:
In this paper, a novel fuzzy-integral-sliding controller (FISC) is designed for coupled nonlinear two-input two-output (TITO) systems. Decomposing the original system into two subsystems, the coupling effects are modelled as uncertainties. In order to ensure the robustness properties with respect to system uncertainties and external disturbances, the sliding mode technique with a proportional integral (PI) sliding surface is adopted. On the other hand, to avoid the chattering phenomenon, the Takagi-Sugeno fuzzy rules are incorporated into the control algorithm, which forms a fuzzy sliding controller. The stability analysis is also presented based on the Lyapunov stability theorem. The proposed FISC is then applied to control the elevation and azimuth angles of Humusoft CE150, as a two degree of freedom (DOF) laboratory helicopter model with highly cross-coupled dynamics. The simulation results are also presented to demonstrate the performance of the proposed control scheme.

Opis:
Dynamics and control of discrete chaotic systems of fractional-order have received considerable attention over the last few years. So far, nonlinear control laws have been mainly used for stabilizing at zero the chaotic dynamics of fractional maps. This article provides a further contribution to such research field by presenting simple linear control laws for stabilizing three fractional chaotic maps in regard to their dynamics. Specifically, a one-dimensional linear control law and a scalar control law are proposed for stabilizing at the origin the chaotic dynamics of the Zeraoulia-Sprott rational map and the Ikeda map, respectively. Additionally, a two-dimensional linear control law is developed to stabilize the chaotic fractional flow map. All the results have been achieved by exploiting new theorems based on the Lyapunov method as well as on the properties of the Caputo h-difference operator. The relevant simulation findings are implemented to confirm the validity of the established linear control scheme.

The paper presents some issues related to the control of fatigue test machines based on W(t) parameter taking into account the simultaneous interaction of stress and strain. This parameter is defined as a product of these values. Such a research method represents a new approach in fatigue testing with an innovative control system. Because of the W(t) function characteristics, the system presents nonlinear behavior and there is a significant deterioration of the control quality and the controlled signal significantly differs from the reference signal waveform. This problem can be solved by introducing a nonlinear block into the feedback loop. Fatigue tests have been carried out for sinusoidal and randomized reference signal waveforms. These tests have proved that the controlled signal follows reference values with an appropriate control quality.

Opis:
Nonlinear motion of the microcantilever probe in the Atomic Force Microscope (AFM) has been extensively studied considering mainly the van der Waals forces. Since the behavior of the microcantilever is vital to quality of generated images, the study of control strategies that force the probe to avoid undesired behavior such as chaotic motion, is also of significant importance. A number of published works has shown that the microcantilever is subject to chaotic motion for a certain combination of parameters. For such a parameter combination, the control system must suppress the chaotic motion. Here, an study of the AFM mathematical model is presented, aiming to find a region of operation of the AFM where the motion is chaotic. In order to suppress the chaotic motion, a periodic orbit of the system is obtained, and the controller forces the system to that periodic orbit. Two control strategies are used, namely: The State Dependent Riccati Equation (SDRE) and the Optimal Linear Feedback Control (OLFC). Both control strategies consider the complete nonlinearities of the system, and the OLFC guarantees the global stability. The numerical simulations carried out showed the efficiency of the control methods as well as the sensitivity of each control strategy to parametric errors. Without the parametric errors, both control strategies were effective in maintaining the system into the desired orbit. On the other hand, in the presence of parametric errors, the SDRE technique was more robust than the OLFC.

Opis:
The presence of backlash in wind turbines is a source of limitations as it introduces nonlinearities that reduce their efficiency in speed/torque control which affect the performance of the power quality. Because of production tolerances during rotation, the teeth contact is lost for a small angle; until it is re-established, it produces a backlash phenomenon. The desire to eliminate this phenomenon is often hard to realise due to the nonlinear dynamic behaviour, which arises with the presence of backlash fault in a system. Therefore, the goal of this study is to develop an LQ optimal control structure in a form of an R-S-T controller in order to reduce the disturbing torque transmitted inside the dead zone of a gearbox in the wind turbine system. The actual system is also developed to be used as a demonstration model at lectures or presentations. The efficacy of the proposed control is illustrated via simulations.

Photovoltaic (PV) system generates renewable energy from sunlight, which has low efficiency due to the variance in nature of temperature and irradiance in a fast changing environment condition. Different researchers have proposed different maximum power point tracking MPPT techniques to improve the efficiency. However, still there are many open issues. Thus, to address this, a non-linear back-stepping-based higher order sliding mode controller (BHOSMC) is proposed to harvest maximum power from PV system. The PV module and load is interfaced by a non-inverted buck-boost converter (NIBBC). A linear interpolation method is used for voltage generation and Lyapunov stability is used to verify the control system equation. MATLAB/Simulink software is used for testing the proposed controller performance. The experimental result verified that the proposed BHOSMC is robust, accurate and fast tracking, faultless and less chattering as compared to perturb and observe (P&O), back-stepping control (BSC) and back-stepping-based sliding mode control under rapidly varying meteorological condition.

The paper presents an error estimate for Runge-Kutta direct discretizations of terminal optimal control problems for linear systems. The optimal control for such problems is typically discontinuous, and Lipschitz stability of the solution with respect to perturbations does not necessarily hold. The estimate (in terms of the optimal controls) is of first order if certain recently obtained sufficient conditions for structural stability hold, and of fractional order, otherwise. The main tool in the proof is the established relation between the local convexity index of the reachable set and the multiplicity of zeros of appropriate switching functions associated with the problem.

Due to the wide rang variation of the radius and inertia of the rollers the system dynamic change considerably during the winding/ unwinding process. Decentralized PI controller for web tension control and linear speed control are presented in this paper. The devised model takes into account the stochastic model for predicting the occurrence of faulty products. The aim of the control model is to determine the number of products which should be manufactured in each planning period to minimize both manufacturing costs and potential financial penalties for failing to fulfill the order completely.

As a special case, relative stochastic controllability of dynamic systems with a single point delay is also considered. The main interest of this new scheme is that it improves the performance of current SIR based power control techniques while avoiding the problem of power escalation, which is often observed in current systems.

A direct approach is used to solve some linear-quadratic stochastic control problems for Brownian motion and other noise processes. This direct method does not require solving Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman partial differential equations or backward stochastic differential equations with a stochastic maximum principle or the use of a dynamic programming principle. The appropriate Riccati equation is obtained as part of the optimization problem. The noise processes can be fairly general including the family of fractional Brownian motions.

A ball balancing on a beam is a perfect platform for demonstration various control strategies. The task is to place ball rolling freely, in a reference position along the beam driven by a motor, rejecting disturbances. The research system consists of mechanical platform with stepper motor and two infrared ball position sensors, power supply and electronic controller based on a 32-bit microcontroller connected to Matlab/Simulink software running the main control algorithm. Designed in Simulink input and output subsystem blocks contain all functions required to provide data exchange with microprocessor controller of the mechanical system. Developed data exchange protocol and its implementation both in microcontroller software and Simulink subsystems allow to use this complete system for educational purposes: the controller designer is free to develop supervisory control layer, not going into details of system operation. The results of system operation with P, PD and LQR control laws are shown at the end of this paper.

This paper presents state feedback control with a linear-quadratic regulator of a doubly fed induction generator. Resonant terms are added to the plant model in order to provide disturbance rejection and reference tracking. A new approach to controlling a parameter varying linear model of the induction machine is presented, allowing to apply a linear-quadratic regulator to the doubly fed induction generator. The control scheme described herein is suitable for the doubly fed induction generator operating under unbalanced stator voltage conditions, because the controller with resonant terms is built in the stationary αβ coordinate system. In it, the positive and negative symmetrical sequences have equal frequencies. The paper highlights specific problems associated with state feedback control of the doubly fed induction generator, i.e. the process of generator connection to an unbalanced grid. In contrast with classical voltage-oriented cascade control methods, in state feedback control of a stand-alone doubly fed induction generator there is no separate rotor current controller. This may cause over-current problem during DFIG synchronization with the grid which has been solved in this paper. Voltage synchronization and grid operation of the generator were tested in a laboratory rig with a 7.5 kW wound-rotor induction machine.

In the present paper approximate constrained controllability of linear abstract second-order infinite-dimensional dynamical control systems is considered. First, fundamental definitions and notions are recalled. Next it is proved, using the so-called frequency-domain method, that approximate constrained controllability of second-order dynamical control system can be verified by the approximate constrained controllability conditions for the simplified, suitably defined first-order linear dynamical control system. General results are then applied for approximate constrained controllability investigation of mechanical flexible structure vibratory dynamical system. Some special cases are also considered. Moreover, many remarks, comments and corollaries on the relationships between different concepts of approximate controllability are given. Finally, the obtained results are applied for investigation of approximate constrained controllability for flexible mechanical structure. In this case linear second-order partial differential state equation describes the transverse motion of an elastic beam which occupies the given finite interval.

We consider a linear-quadratic elliptic optimal control problem with pointwise state constraints. The problem is fully discretized using linear ansatz functions for state and control. Based on a Slater-type argument, we investigate the approximation behavior for mesh size tending to zero. The obtained convergence order for the L²-error of the control and for H 1-error of the state is 1 - ε in the two-dimensional case and 1/2 - ε in three dimensions, provided that the domain satisfies certain regularity assumptions. In a second step, a state-constrained problem with additional control constraints is considered. Here, the control is discretized by constant ansatz functions. It is shown that the convergence theory can be adapted to this case yielding the same order of convergence. The theoretical findings are confirmed by numerical examples.

This paper presents the formulation and numerical simulation for linear quadratic optimal control problem (LQOCP) of free terminal state and fixed terminal time fractional order discrete time singular system (FODSS). System dynamics is expressed in terms of Riemann-Liouville fractional derivative (RLFD), and performance index (PI) in terms of state and costate. Because of its complexity, finding analytical and numerical solutions to singular system (SS) is difficult. As a result, we use coordinate transformation to convert FODSS to its corresponding fractional order discrete time nonsingular system (FODNSS). After that, we obtain the necessary conditions by employing a Hamiltonian approach. The relevant conditions are solved using the general solution approach. For the analysis of formulation and solution algorithm, a numerical example is illustrated. Results are obtained for various values. According to state of the art, this is the first time that a formulation and numerical simulation of free terminal state and fixed terminal time optimal control problem (OCP) of FODSS is presented.

In this paper, the optimal control law is derived for a multi-variable state-space Linear Quadratic Gaussian Predictive Controller (LQGPC). A dynamic performance index is utilized resulting in an optimal steady-state controller. Knowledge of future reference values is incorporated into the controller design and the solution is derived using the method of Lagrange multipliers. It is shown how the well-known GPC controller can be obtained as a special case of the LQGPC controller design. The important advantage of using the LQGPC framework for designing predictive controllers is that, based on stabilizing properties of LQG control, it enables a systematic approach to selection of the design parameters to yield a stable closed-loop system. The system model considered in this paper can be further extended toalso include direct feed-through and knowledge about future external inputs.

An optimal control problem for 2d and 3d Stokes equations is investigated with pointwise inequality constraints on the state and the control. The paper is concerned with the full discretization of the control problem allowing for different types of discretization of both the control and the state. For instance, piecewise linear and continuous approximations of the control are included in the present theory. Under certain assumptions on the L∞-error of the finite element discretization of the state, error estimates for the control are derived which can be seen to be optimal since their order of convergence coincides with the one of the interpolation error. The assumptions of the L∞-finite-eleinent-error can be verified for different numerical settings. Finally the results of two numerical experiments are presented.

Machine tools’ feed dynamics are usually limited in order to reduce excitation of machine structure oscillations. Consequently, the potential increase in productivity provided by direct drives, e.g. linear motors, cannot be exploited. The novel approach of the Kinematically Coupled Force Compensation (KCFC) applies a redundant axis configuration combined with the principle of force compensation and thus achieves an increase in feed dynamics while drive reaction forces cancel out each other in the machine base. In this paper, the principle of KCFC is introduced briefly. Subsequently, the basics for the realisation of a highly dynamic KCFC motion system with planar motion are derived and discussed. In order to achieve highest acceleration (> 100 m/s2) and jerk (> 100000 m/s3), a mechatronic system with specially designed components for the mechanical, electrical and control system is required. Thus, the design approach presented in this paper applies lightweight slides, a decoupled guide frame and voice coil motors operated at high frequencies for the pulse width modulation and control loops.

The paper deals with an optimal control problem in a dynamical system described by a linear differential equation with the Caputo fractional derivative. The goal of control is to minimize a Bolza-type cost functional, which consists of two terms: the first one evaluates the state of the system at a fixed terminal time, and the second one is an integral evaluation of the control on the whole time interval. In order to solve this problem, we propose to reduce it to some auxiliary optimal control problem in a dynamical system described by a first-order ordinary differential equation. The reduction is based on the representation formula for solutions to linear fractional differential equations and is performed by some linear transformation, which is called the informational image of a position of the original system and can be treated as a special prediction of a motion of this system at the terminal time. A connection between the original and auxiliary problems is established for both open-loop and feedback (closed-loop) controls. The results obtained in the paper are illustrated by examples.

To be possible, within this integration, to design the controller which guarantees a pre-specified H∞ norm disturbance attenuation level, the design conditions has to be regularized using the H2 performance index and, moreover, augmented fault observer must be of enforced dynamics. Analyzing the ambit of performances given on the mixed H2/H∞ design, the joint design conditions are formulated as a minimization problem subject to convex constraints expressed by a system of LMIs. The feasibility of the conditions is demonstrated by a numerical example.

Current drive control systems tend to push control loops to the limits of their performance. One of the ways of doing so is to use advanced optimization algorithms, usually related to model-based off-line calculations, such as genetic algorithms, the particle swarmoptimisation or the others. There is, however, a simpler way, namely to use predictive control formalism and by formulation of a simple linear programming problem which is easy to solve using powerful solvers, without excessive computational burden, what is a reliable solution, as whenever the optimization problem has a feasible solution, a global minimizer can be efficiently found. This approach has been deployed for a servo drive system operated by a real-time sampled-data controller, verified between model-in-the-loop and hardwarein- the-loop configurations, for a range of prediction horizons, as an attractive alternative to classical quadratic programming-related formulation of predictive control task.

This paper presents explicit necessary and sufficient commutativity conditions for commutativity of second-order linear time-varying systems with non-zero initial conditions. It has appeared interesting that the second requirement for the commutativity of non-relaxed systems plays an important role on the commutativity conditions when non-zero initial conditions exist. Another highlight is that the commutativity of switched systems is considered and spoiling of commutativity at the switching instants is illustrated for the first time. The simulation results support the theory developed in the paper.

This paper is about optimal control of infinite-horizon nonstationary stochastic linear processes with a quadratic cost criterion. The synthesis problem of optimal control is solved under the assumptions that the criterion is an average expected cost and that the process' matrices possess limits for the time approaching infinity. Furthermore, the limit matrices are such that the "limit" process is both observable and controllable. The paper documents existence of an optimal feedback control policy. The policy is such that the gain matrix is a (scaled) solution to a Riccati stationary matrix equation. The equation is stationary in that its coefficients are the limits of the process' non-stationary matrices.

The efficiency of vibration control in an automotive semi-active suspension system depends on the quality of information from sensors installed in the vehicle, including information about deflection of the suspension system. The control algorithm for vibration attenuation of the body takes into account its velocity as well as the relative velocity of the suspension. In this paper it is proposed to use the Linear Variable Differential Transformer (LVDT) unit to measure the suspension deflection and then to estimate its relative velocity. This approach is compared with a typical solution implemented in such applications, where the relative velocity is calculated by processing signals acquired from accelerometers placed on the body and on the chassis. The experiments performed for an experimental All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV) confirm that using LVDT units allows for improving ride comfort by better vibration attenuation of the body.

The cause of vibrations is a nonlinear and unknown friction between a drill string and the environment, containing jumps in its characteristics. Nonlinear behaviour of the friction coefficient results in self-excited vibration and causes undesirable stick-slip oscillations. The aim of this paper is to present a novel adaptive technique of controlling vibrating systems. The scheme is based on the linear quadratic regulator and uses direct measurements of the friction torque to synthesize its linear dynamic approximation. This approach allows generating a control law that takes into account the impact of the friction on the system dynamics and optimally steers the system to the desired trajectory. The controller’s performance is examined via numerical simulations of the stabilization of the drilling system. The proposed solution outperforms the comparative LQG regulator in terms of the minimization of the assumed cost functional and the overall stability of the control system under the nonlinear disturbance.

Opis:
The present paper studies an optimization problem of dynamically loaded cylindrical tubes. This is a problem of linear elasticity theory. As we search for the optimal thickness of the tube which minimizes the displacement under forces, this is a problem of shape optimization. The mathematical model is given by a differential equation (ODE and PDE, respectively); the mechanical problem is described as an optimal control problem. We consider both the stationary (time independent) and the transient (time dependent) case. P. Nestler derives the model-equations from the Mindlin and Reissner hypotheses. Then, necessary optimality conditions for the optimal control problem are given. Numerical solutions are obtained by FEM, numerical examples are presented.

The main disturbances of the machine tool frame are caused by operation of motion axes. Movement of high dynamic motion axes is connected with powerful force stroke that excite machine tool frame vibration and deteriorate machining surface quality and productivity. There are several possibilities how to suppress this vibration. This deals with the simulation and experimental testing of new advanced conception where the main motor is connected with the frame by an active element that is controlled by intelligent control technique.

Opis:
This paper focuses on the design and control of an active suspension system, where a tubular linear motor is integrated into a spring damper system of a vehicle. The spring takes up the weight of the vehicle. Therefore the electric linear motor can be designed very compact as it has to provide forces to adjust the damping characteristic only. Design and construction of the active suspension system, a control strategy and validation measurements at a test bench are presented.

Opis:
A new formulation of the minimum energy control problem for the positive 2D continuousdiscrete linear systems with bounded inputs is proposed. Necessary and sufficient conditions for the reachability of the systems are established. Conditions for the existence of the solution to the minimum energy control problem and a procedure for computation of an input minimizing the given performance index are given. Effectiveness of the procedure is demonstrated on numerical example.

Opis:
A new concept of control of objects described by state equation system (1) or equivalent ones is proposed. Basing on Eqs. (5),(6) and model (2) shown in Fig. 1, one can determine such an object input U(t) that the output has the form Y(T), where the "new" time T is defined by formula dT=A(t)dt depending on the time-variable, time-scale coefficient A(t). Y(t) is the object response to the reference input for A=1 (see Fig. 3). Signal A(t) is formed on the basis of control system error signal e(t) as the result of static, linear or nonlinear operation A(t)=q(e(t)), where q(0)=0. Thus, using (5),(6) and model (2), one can design the modified MFC structure shown in Fig. 4 for precise control of the object output Y. The principle of control is very simple: if the error reaches the value e(t)=A(t)=0, then the object model in Fig. 1 can be treated as decoupled, values of its state variables remain the same and model output y remains the same, too. Because Y follows y (Fig. 4), the changes of the object output Y do not occur. If e(t)=A(t) 0, then y and Y tend to the reference signal yo and the rate of this follow-up action depends on the choice of q(e(t)). During this process the consecutive values of the model and object output are y(T) and Y(T). This means, that the "reference" plant response Y(t) for A=1 exactly defines Y(T). The mentioned above properties generate an extremely simple way for analysis of the system stability and allow obtaining perfect results of the follow-up action (lack of overshoots, short setting times) - see Figs. 5, 6.

Opis:
First- and second-order optimality conditions are established for the boundary optimal control of quasilinear elliptic equations with pointwise constraints on the control. The theory is developed for Neumann controls in polygonal domains of dimension two. For the derivation of second-order sufficient optimality conditions, which is the main goal of this paper, the regularity of the solutions to the state equation and its linearization is studied in detail. Moreover, a Pontryagin principle is proved. The main difficulty in the analysis of these problems is the nonmonotone character of the state equation.
