Opis:
This paper presents a computational model which describes motion of an object of six degrees of freedom (DoF), intended for simulation of spatial motion of one- or two- rope-sling lifeboat or rescue boat during its launching from ship in rough sea. This is a complex model which accounts for sea conditions as well as elasticity and damping properties of davit’s elements and mechanisms, rope and boat hull. Also, are presented results of example calculations for an assumed set of technical parameters of davit and boat as well as sea conditions.

Opis:
The article describes numerical simulations of the process of lifeboat launching at the ship’s side. The research aimed at finding the values of ship motion parameters which appear to be most dangerous for people in the lowered lifeboat due to the generated accelerations. The simplified model of ship hull motion adopted at this research stage bases on a superposition of harmonic motions with given amplitudes and periods in six degrees of freedom. The range of the amplitude of motion for each degree of freedom corresponds approximately to that of possible motion of the PANAMAX type ship on the Baltic sea. In total, 120 960 cases of ship hull motion were examined.

This paper is a continuation of the work titled : “A computational model for simulation of motion of rescue module during its launching from stern ramp of a ship at rough sea”. It presents results of computer simulations of motion of a rescue module with embarked persons during its launching on rollers along stern ramp of a ship at rough sea. The simulations were conducted for a selected ship fitted with a launching ramp , for a few selected scenarios of sea conditions. It was assumed that during this operation the ship drifts across direction of wave propagation.

Between 1985 and 1992, at the NUTEC training facility in Bergen training launches at heights of both 28 meters and 12.5 meters took place. During this period sixteen injuries to personnel were sustained. It is not recorded if all the injuries were associated with a particular launch height and it is assumed that the injuries followed launches from both heights. It is noted that a higher number of injuries occur during on-board ship drills than during shore-based training. The Swedish submission concludes that, 'During the launch of the free-fall lifeboat, there is a potential for the occupants to be injured'. As a result of these accidents interesting topic for further research and development has become evident: evaluation of performance of a free fall lifeboat in a wind and wave environments. In the paper the stochastic model of wave influence on the free fall lifeboat trajectory is presented.

Opis:
The article presents the experiment’s results of the lifeboat model lowered with an initial speed and then released to fall onto a flat water surface. The purpose of the research is to determine the trajectory of the vertical boat motion and describe it with a mathematical model. This is closely related to determining the damping factor since the vertical motion is damped and the lifeboat gets balanced and stops moving after some time. The procedure of selecting parameters in the mathematical model to adjust to the results of the experiment was described in details. The summary describes the imperfections of the presented damping model and their probable causes.

Opis:
Today, a significant number of quite advanced technology applications support safety at sea. To the dismay of the maritime industry, the manifestation of passengers during an evacuation scenario/case has not followed a similar path of improvement, when compared to the counterpart Life Saving Appliances (LSA) Code. Embarkation and muster proceedings are still following the similar approaches that were established during the early 1900s. There have been relatively few advances in these procedures; most often, they include manually checking-in the passengers on electronic systems, along with “on the spot” completion of check-off lists and passenger counts, allowing for an influx of potential error by the concerned personnel. Furthermore, the rely and transmission of the manifest to a Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) is often associated with a considerable amount of time, or even involving secondary passenger counts, after the disembarkation event has been concluded. It is understandable that a vessel with limited people on-board (tankers, bulk carriers, container vessels, etc.) can effectively be abandoned in a matter of minutes, but what happens with vessels carrying a large number of passengers and more specifically those heavily engaged with cruising activities? This paper examines the creation of an electronic manifestation system that will be able to automatically record the passengers during lifeboat embarkation. This proposed system will employ the use of Near-Field Communication (NFC) and/or (Radio-frequency identification) RFID bracelets, that are already utilized within the cruise industry. It will record relevant passenger and crew data, upon their boarding on the designated lifeboat, through readers installed on the parallel sides of the entryway. The data will be displayed in electronic tablet devices to the lifeboat leaders, as well as to the Master of the vessel in real-time. This will allow for an accurate representation of the evacuation process in any given moment. Furthermore, a complete “snapshot” of that information can also be directly transmitted to the MRCC via an automated message and without any further human intervention, or even stored locally aboard the lifeboats used for the evacuation and the ship’s Vessel Data Recorder (VDR).

Opis:
This paper presents description of a computer program for motion visualization of a lifeboat lowered along ship’s side. The program is a post-processor which reads results of numerical calculations of simulated objects’ motions. The data is used to create scene composed of 3D surfaces to visualize mutual spatial positions of a lifeboat, ship’s side and water waving surface. Since the numerical data contain description of a simulation as a function of time it is possible to screen a static scene showing the simulated objects in an arbitrary instance of time. The program can also reproduce a sequence of scenes in the form of animation and control its speed. The static mode allows to view an arbitrary crosssection of the scene, rotate and enlarge specific details and make the image more realistic by hiding invisible lines or shading. The application of the program is aimed at making it possible to assess and analyze numerical calculation results in advance of their experimental verification.

The article presents a numerical model of object motion in six degrees of freedom (DoF) which is intended to be used to simulate 3D motion of a lifesaving module during its launching from a ship using a stern ramp in rough sea. The model, of relatively high complexity, takes into account both the motion of the ship on water in changing sea conditions, and the relative motion of the ramp with respect to the ship. The motion of the ramp changes and strongly depends on its constructional and geometrical parameters. The presented model takes into account the displacement of the submerged part of the ramp, as well as its damping in the water and the interaction with the module moving on it. The results of test simulation of a module launching from the ship in still water are included.

This paper presents a continuation of the projects [5, 6] dealing with the novel concepts of evacuating people from large passenger ships. A novel integrated drive and control system for chain lift with lifeboats fastened on it as well as for stern port- ramp, is presented. Additional novel elements is the application of the stern port - ramp fitted with a buoyancy element, and its increased capability of automatic adjusting its operational deflection in the case of a large forward trim of ship. It increases safety and comfort of evacuation in the difficult conditions, but to obtain it a more complex drive and control system has been required to be designed.

Opis:
This study proposes the use of generative adversarial networks (GANs) to solve two crucial problems in the unmanned ship navigation: insufficient training data for neural networks and convergence of optimal actions under discrete conditions. To achieve smart collision avoidance of unmanned ships in various sea environments, first, this study proposes a collision avoidance decision model based on a deep reinforcement learning method. Then, it utilizes GANs to generate enough realistic image training sets to train the decision model. According to generative network learning, the conditional probability distribution of ship maneuvers is learnt (action units). Subsequently, the decision system can select a reasonable action to avoid the obstacles due to the discrete responses of the generated model to different actions and achieve the effect of intelligent collision avoidance. The experimental results showed that the generated target ship image set can be used as the training set of decision neural networks. Further, a theoretical reference to optimize the optimal convergence of discrete actions is provided.
