Opis:: Faced with the scientific hypotheses of the 18th and 19th centuries on the origins of life, some authors try to maintain the creationist imagery while others develop representations of the gradual emergence of life forms from inert matter (heterogeny). The divide is not between the scientific and the literary: what is most remarkable is the pooling of all resources, the borrowing from various disciplines to put words to the emergence of life. This mix of science, poetry, myth and observation, which can be likened to the category of the legendary, shows that science and the humanities dialogue and interpenetrate despite ideological and religious obstacles, and recalls the unity of the cultural whole.

Opis:: Subject and purpose of work: The study aims to explore the role of social capital in the new concept of “effective” cluster, by exploiting not only its human and financial assets but also the social networks with the cluster. Materials and methods: The study presents the case-study findings of the five life-sciences clusters which were conducted in 2018-2019. Additionally, the article discusses the role of social capital and the collaborative efforts within the life sciences clusters during the Covid-19 pandemic. Results: All the analyzed cluster environments have their own social dynamics. Considering the scale and scope of social ties, the Cambridge and Medicon Valley clusters conform with the concept of the "functional clusters", while the Bay Area and Seattle clusters can be classified as “effective clusters”. Conclusions: All the cluster ecosystems have evolved from different origins and they follow different evolutionary paths. Yet, clusters with richer social capital achieve higher collaborative synergy, leading to an increase in knowledge spillovers and innovations. Public policies should focus on the active promotion of social networks and market-oriented intermediaries connecting main cluster partners.

Opis:: The article aims to present the research findings regarding the level of knowledge the students of Warsaw University of Life Sciences and the students of Jadwiga Dziubińska Agricultural Education Centre Schools in Golądkowo have about renewable energy resources. The research shows that the university and secondary school students are most knowledgeable about solar energy and wind power. The students whose field of studies is Renewable Energy Technologies demonstrate more knowledge of geothermal energy, biogas or biomass. Most respondents acquire knowledge about renewable energy resources from the Internet and television while the students of Renewable Energy Technologies acquire their knowledge in the course of their studies. The respondents believe that the production of energy from renewable sources is safe for the environment and human health. But most respondents, including the secondary school and university students, think that biogas is harmful for the environment and human health. Almost three fourth of the respondents are most willing to use solar energy. The second most popular source of energy is wind power. According to the respondents, the advantages of the investments are the protection of the environment and reduction of greenhouse gases emission. A big proportion of the students of Renewable Energy Technologies are for becoming independent of the increasing prices of fossil fuels. The research shows that, in the students’ opinion, wind power and solar energy development is most prospective in Poland. The students of Renewable Energy Technologies believe that there are big opportunities for biomass development in Poland.

Opis:: Contemporary employers put numerous competency requirements for the staff candidates. Only those having desirable competencies stand a chance for employment. It turns out that candidates for employees who are graduates of universities have competency gaps, particularly in the field of work organization and time management. The purpose of this article is to determine what exactly the people entering the labor market are not capable of, and how great the scale of the deficiencies in the activities associated with the organization of their own work is. Having this in mind, questionnaire surveys were conducted among the students of the Warsaw University of Life Sciences - SGGW. On the basis of the surveys results it was concluded that people entering the labor market have a number of deficiencies in work organization skills resulting mainly from the lack of knowledge and the habit of organizing work in time. It was also established that this problem is not marginal, and it concerns a large number of future employees. Therefore, it seems necessary to undertake educational activities that lead to improvement of the observed situation.

Opis:: The concept of order, including the spatial order, should be the basis for any actions concerning the development of the space surrounding us that this particular symmetry between nature and the human activity could be preserved and could mark the harmonious compatibility and the correct interdependence of components. While the cultural heritage as an important element of national heritage, is fairly well protected (durability of the legal solutions, the stabilized structures of public administration, social awareness) is the landscape, especially the rural landscape, it is not properly protected and treated with care, and one of the reasons for this is a crisis situation in terms of spatial planning. Institute of Landscape Architecture at the University of Environmental and Life Sciences (IAK) participates in activities in support of rural leaders since 2001, when it was initiated cooperation with the Office of the Marshal of the Opole Province. Since 2004, there were works began in the Lower Silesia region in cooperation first with municipalities and the local action groups, and afterwards in cooperation with the Marshal Office of Lower Silesia. The employees of IAK has begun since that time training for the rural leaders, moderators, and local authorities, realizing topics related to the cultural heritage and landscape conservation of the village. They were conducted in both provinces, as well as in Silesia, Lublin and Great Poland voivodeship.

Opis:: Esej przedstawia w krótkiej formie główny argument książki Thomasa Nagela Mind and Cosmos: Why the Materialist Neo-Darwinian Conception of Nature is Almost Certainly False (Oxford University Press 2012). Zgodnie z tym argumentem nauki fizykalne w obecnej postaci nie są w stanie podać zadowalającego wyjaśnienia świadomego życia i w związku z tym są niezupełne. Nie powinno nas to jednak skłonić do przyjęcia jakiejś formy teizmu, ale raczej do poszukiwania szerszej, adekwatniejszej koncepcji przyrody.
The essay outlines the main argument of Thomas Nagel’s influential book Mind and Cosmos: Why the Materialist Neo-Darwinian Conception of Nature is Almost Certainly False (Oxford University Press 2012). According to the argument the physical sciences in their present form cannot adequately account for our conscious life and are thus incomplete. This should not lead us to accept some form of theism, however, but to a search for a broader, more adequate conception of nature.

Opis:: Анна Тереса Тыменецкая (1923–2014) – польская философ, чья научная деятельность развивалась на рубеже XX и XXI веков. Больше сорока лет она развивала и совершенствовала собственную концепцию феноменологии жизни. Её вдохновляли все дисциплины науки, с которыми она одновременно полемизировала. Особенно важна была для неё феноменология Эдмунда Гуссерля, а также естественные науки. Она считала феноменологию естественным способом отношения человека к действительности и к своей жизни. Естественные науки были для неё источником большой правды о естественном генезисе человеческой жизни. Поэтому феноменология жизни признает эту правду, одновременно предоставляя естественным наукам недостающее им критическое отношение.
Anna Teresa Tymieniecka (1923–2014) – a polish philosopher acting at the turn of the XX and XXI century. She has been developing and perfecting her own conception of phenomenology of life for more than forty years. She was inspired by all disciplines of science with which she also rolled the polemic. Particularly important for her was the Edmund Husserl’s phenomenology and the natural sciences. She recognized this phenomenology as a human’s natural way of relating to the reality and to the human’s life. The natural sciences were a great source of the truth for her about the natural origins of human’s life. The phenomenology of life accepts this truth and provides a missing critical attitude into the natural sciences.
