Opis:
It is a special challenge for an individual to be the hero of his/her own life in the social conditions of reflexive modernisation. Autobiographies are not only descriptions of what happened during the life course, but they also reflect individual capacity to construct cultural identities in reflexive and reflective ways. To reflect on one’s own success, personal gains and losses have to be compared with the competitive capacities of other community members of the hierarchically structured society. Reflexive capacity is the demand to become a conscious self and culturally identified member of a social group. Selfidentity is reconstructed and coped with in light of meaningful others during certain transition periods in the life course. Life-political meaningfulness is checked by overcoming personal difficulties in order to manage life-challenges further. Self-respect gives the resources needed for overcoming alienating experiences, for controlling the risk of social exclusion and for mastering one's own life successfully. Narrative identification of self tends to produce life-heroes. But the problem considered relevant here starts from reflecting altruism with reflexive monitoring of the self. The question is whether heroic episodes of life can be narrated so that heroic everyday deeds are emphasised in autobiographies. Or is everyday heroism present only in precarious moments which escape ego-centrism because this kind of heroism can be placed only at the social margin, where surviving a difficult situation obliges one to turn unselfishly toward another?

Three processes are indicated in the article, which have an influence on the employment policies applied to disabled persons in Poland: (1) creating a community concept of counteracting exclusion (including the disabled in all spheres of social life), (2) changing educational policy (which has an impact on the level of education of the disabled persons), and (3) creating a Poland-wide employment policy (from protective measures to activation). The first process may be interpreted – in the words of A. Giddens – as an attempt to proceed from emancipation politics to life politics (at the level of the EU-idea which is recommended to the member states). The second process consists in individuals using structural possibilities as means of group emancipation of disabled persons in Poland (emancipation politics). The third is interpreted as an attempt to create institutional appearances of emancipation because of its scarce effects on the employment of disabled persons. The asynchrony of processes is discussed which results in social effects for the community, families and the disabled persons themselves, thus giving rise to new social problems instead of solving the old ones.

The shaping of a politician’s image may be considered in terms of various research aspects. The purpose of this article is to draw attention to the issue of the use of communication strategies from the fields of PR and political marketing in the context of building a negative message, using the following mechanisms: anomie, conspiracy theory – political paranoia and political lies. From a psychological point of view, anomie can mean “a dearth of sense, a dearth of meaning”. The cause of this phenomenon is always sought for outside ourselves, in states of confusion and disorientation, when we want to find those guilty of an event/socio-political situation. These treatments are frequently combined with the building of a “conspiracy theory”. They appear at specific moments in history, or in specific socio-political formations. They may relate to the collective mentality (operating on the principle of legends or myths). In the analysed context, they are states of consciousness of an individual who also performs important public and political functions. Their use in a political creation consists primarily of finding, for oneself and others, the existence of a collective enemy and fighting it. The result of this approach is the creation of the phenomenon of “political paranoia” as a particular way of thinking about politics. Another element of this puzzle is the articulation by politicians of a political lie. This phenomenon (according to definition) occurs when someone utters a claim that s/he knows or suspects is false, in the hope that others will consider it to be true. Lying is an action deliberately

Opis:
The concept of life politics appears from my explorations within the Humanities. In my opinion this construct has the potential to bring into Pedagogy. Life politics is a topic related to discussions about condition and characteristics of modern world as well as about individualization, consciousness, reflexivity, choice and ethics. Life politics concerns political issues which flow from processes of selfactualization in post-traditional contexts, where globalizing influences intrude deeply into the reflexive project of the self, and conversely where processes of self-actualization influence global strategies. Life politics is the politics of self-actualization in the context of the dialectic of the local and global and the emergence of the internally referential systems of modernity. Life politics is the creation of morally justifiable forms of life that will promote self-realization in the context of global interdependence. It develops ethics concerning the issue ‘how should we live?’ in a post-traditional order and against backdrop of existential questions. In my view this can be perceived as a pedagogical phenomenon.

Recently the reports of terrorist acts, committed either by separatists or Muslim fundamentalists, have been getting more and more frequent. The sole definition of terrorism, as an act against human life or health (or its threat), conducted as a mean to terrorize and force an organized group of people (usually a nation) to fulfill the culprits’ demands, neither leads to its moral judgment nor is sufficient to find the way to prevent it. To answer those questions one has to consider such aspects as the reasons behind the attacks and the terrorists’ goals. The question about the moral interpretation of terrorism is a question whether we agree with the statement, that the end justifies the means, or not. Any apology of terrorism has to be based on utilitarian grounds. In case of the political terrorism, in some instances the terrorist act might be considered the lesser evil, while such justification does not apply to the religious terrorism. Simple calculation is not sufficient. What’s most detestable in terrorism is the fact, that it is blind, it affects both the guilty and innocent indiscriminately. Therefore the terrorist act itself should be deemed as evil and should be met with firm resistance, and the demands associated with it should be ignored or fulfilled in an indirect manner (if they are just), so that this action would not be tied to the act itself, as it may trigger another attack. It is also important to establish the limits of the counterterrorism, and to consider whether the renouncement of some rights and the impairment of some institutions is not an indirect goal of the terrorists. An unequivocal answer to the question “is terrorism solely evil?” is not possible, for it depends strongly on the point of view. The same applies to the methods of the fight against terrorism – a military act might lead to the escalation of the conflict, and at the same time ideological war might have questionable effectiveness. Important causes of the terrorism are poverty and the lack of proper education, a long-term fight against terrorism should be therefore based on their prevention.

‘Biopolitics’ is a complex discipline that comprises of various disciplines of science. Today it is discussed in the field of sociology, social, political and medical sciences as a separate notion. Its various concepts and interpretations have resulted in the last centuries in tragic phenomena with the human being seen as a subject of the dominant socio-political ideologies. The contemporary biopolitics seems to be firmly rooted in the mainstream of the postmodern thought. The biopolitics with its multiple varieties always has a certain philosophical anthropology as its foundation. The Catholic Church also has some reasons in using this notion. In many statements of the magisterium the biopolitics is not only just another interpretation of the “politics of life” but also an important antithesis against the contemporary reductionist concepts of the human being and rejection of the objective values.

It has to be pointed out that in the second half of the 20th century the public discourse was dominated mainly by two phenomena. Namely, to put that notion in short, the change of our culture from a word-centric into image-centric one. As well as the decrease of the importance of the worldview-ideological disputes. The aim of this article is to indicate the effects of these phenomena on the social life. The authors point out to the consequences of the decrease in the role of the intellectual motifs in favour of the growing importance of the emotions when making a political-based decision. Thus, the concentration of the voters’ attention on the personality of the politician, not on his or hers views, achievements or political program. Hence, one may observe the decrease in the role of the political party in the political life at the national level and the diminishment of the inner-party democracy and its direct effect, namely, widely seen growth of demagogy and populism.

At the beginning of the XXI century Ukrainian art observed activization of the artist’s interest for the political life of the country. The starting point was 2004, marked by protests against unfair elections in the country, the birth of the first “Maidan” and “Orange revolution”. In a number of artistic actions organized by art groups we can see the reflection of the revolution events and, later, the frustrations of its ideals. The most striking manifestation of political issues in contemporary art in Ukraine was the great creativity following the second “Maidan” (2013). In this spontaneous Performance everyone plays a role: the participants are the protesters, official persons, fighters of “Berkut” and interior force troops, journalists and others. Protesters’ tents, barricades, a statue of Lenin and “Maidan” itself (or Independence Square) as a place of free will and creativity became the Symbols of the “Maidan” and its own art objects.

The aim of the article is to indicate that there is quite strong support in the text of the Nicomachean Ethics for the argument that its inquiry is “political” rather than “ethical” in character – the textual evidence provides reasons to challenge the traditional belief that Aristotle separated ethics from politics and started the rise of ethics as a new branch of philosophy. In addition, one can posit a hypothesis (and this has already been done) that the reader, whom Aristotle had in mind while writing what we now know as the Ethics, was a politician-lawgiver (and not just any educated Greek or – which is even less probable – any human being). So the reader aimed at in the Ethics is the same as the reader aimed at in the Politics – a politician-lawgiver. The Ethics and the Politics are a two-part but inseparable compound that together make a textbook for a politician-lawgiver. Both parts should be read together because the one cannot be understood correctly (i.e. as closely as possible to the intentions of their author) without the other. Aristotle studies human good not from the point of view of the individual but from the point of view of the human community. The highest human good – the philosopher’s eudaimonia – is achieved not by individual effort (or not fundamentally by that) but as a result of good laws and a well-organized life in a polis.

The purpose of this article is to assess the quality of life of the residents of a degraded satellite area of a city. It is considered in the context of urban development policy – as the result of decisions and as a challenge for long-term development. The research was based on a case study, which is the district of Opole referred to as Metalchem. It is characterized by an isolated location in the city structure as well as economic transformations. The study was based primarily on an analysis of source materials and results of a survey. The results show that the assessment of the quality of life is inconsistent. The living conditions are good, but satisfactory fulfilment of social needs is lacking. The residents of the studied area feel that their quality of life is lower than that of other residents of the city. This situation is the result of three main factors: insufficient access to public services, an ingrained negative image of the quarter, and a lack of coherence and continuity of the policy regarding this area. Research shows that the quality of life of the residents of degraded and satellite districts depends on the management and investments in the area, on the area’s perceived status within the city, but primarily on a consistent implementation of spatial and economic policies. Ensuring cohesion and integration between the satellite districts and the city center as well as other districts is also important.

But there also arises another question about the crisis of the left, which could mean the end of the previous model, intergroup rivalry. But there is no doubt that it occurred after 2005 events. Initiated processes took a completely different direction than those in the 90s. The purpose of the article is to explain the ongoing political disputes, and also attempt to answer the question: what factors shape the profile of program-ideological political formations in Poland.

Zostało postawione, gdyż zauważyłam, że to pobudzenie emocjonalne występuje równocześnie u kilku badanych (badaniom podlega osiem kobiet) w odniesieniu do pewnych poruszanych w wywiadzie problemów.
The issue of homosexual women’s functioning is more and more often raised in social sciences, however there is still a lack of some significant data showing in details each dimension of their lives. The construct of quality of life includes aspects that can be used to diagnose the situation of the interesting social group to a great extent. Within its components I organised the conceptual frame that was a point of reference to interviews; it evolved during the research development. Qualitative analysis and interpretation of empirical material that was collected by the method of individual cases and through observation, allowed me to categorize and to code the data; then the cases were simultaneously described (the method of continuous comparing). Presented data was collected for my master thesis titled ‘The quality of life of homosexual women— cases study’. The research question mentioned in the article: ‘which aspects of quality of life of the researched homosexual women arouse their irritation?’ was not included in the initial conceptual frame. It was stated when I noticed that such an emotional agitation occurs simultaneously among some of the women (eight interlocutors were researched) while speaking about certain interviewed problems. Researched women feel irritation when the following issues are brought up: life conditions in Poland, the national politics and their faith and religiosity. The last aspect is connected to two issues: the Church involvement in political and social life and the attitude of that institution towards nonheteronormative people. Researching the quality of life in a specific trend (comparatively-descriptive) requires the relation to data representing the population of Poland. S Such a comparison shows that homosexual women’s opinion referring to first three questions is analogous to the opinion of other residents of our country—their irritation has its basis in socio-political situation, it is not conditioned by the sexual orientation. The relation Church verus nonheteronormative people raises anger of my interlocutors as they are the members of the social group, in which a negative message of the mentioned institution is directed. The quality of life of homosexual women in the context of foregoing aspect is lower than of the other members of our society; in the connection to remaining questions it can be stated that the quality of life is on the same level. It seems that in this aspect and in the context of emotional agitation of nonheteronormative people, in the face of specific problems, there should be further research conducted. The results could contribute to the improvement of the quality of their functioning and to designing anti-homophobic and anti-discriminatory activities.

The current literature on the subject has elaborated at least two hypotheses regarding this topic: one characterizes the current scenario in terms of neo-Pentecostalization of the world, while the other is oriented more towards concepts such as spirituality. We concentrate on a case study that synthesizes the religious dimension with politics and economics: the field of Corporate Social Responsibility – CSR. In empirical terms, we set out to study the first International Congress of Social Responsibility (CIRS), which took place in October 2013 in Argentina. Two results can be highlighted from our study: on the one hand, CSR involves networks that express an area of social power that concentrates different resources. On the other hand, there is a range of values that go from spirituality to “NGO-ism”, and that is characterized by different ways of collective construction centered on the individual as an agent of transformation.

Opis:
The ordinary life of Slovak Republic citizens is becoming more and more dependent on their ability to be successful on job market as an employee or businessperson, but also from the overall health condition of citizens, from the social political situation in country, but also from the civilization context which is given mainly by development of science and technology. Faster than in any other period, the lifestyle changes of citizens occur, the changes are done mainly in the individual life strategies, dramatically the life quality is changed. On the life quality has the biggest influence the affluence of financial means for individuals and household. With this, there is the connection of the need to have employment, work for higher wage than the minimal and from the played salary normally pay the insurance fees and taxes. With regard to high rate of unemployment in Slovakia approximately 5 per cent of citizens works for minimal wage. It also starts to be certainty that minimal wage is not only played for work with regards of difficulties and sufficient professional training and education but also for the work which belongs to the more demanding. When comparing the minimal wage with the average wage in national economy it is visible that minimal wage is not high as 40 per cent from the amount of average monthly wage which has negative impact on life quality of employed citizens of Slovakia. It is right if in the country the amount of minimal wage defined? Would not it be convenient to establish the minimal wage according the regions and optimized it to average wage? It is totally necessary from the reason that the amount of minimal wage is not enough for employed citizens in the full range to cover basic life needs. The average wages, minimal wages but also the costs of work in Slovakia are lower mainly when comparing to the other EU countries. According the recommendations of EU the minimal wages should be at least 60 per cent of average nominal monthly wage of economics. Low level of wages means not only the lowering of the quality of citizens life’s but also lowering of motivation to find a job, loosing of interest of getting higher qualification and leaving of young people with higher education abroad. The present day problem in the area of wages should getting along of market demands on the graduate students which has its part also by failing personal policy of employers.
