The article comprises a definition of the term “restricted collections” and an enumeration of legal regulations from the period 1944-1955. Mentioned arrangements contained circumscription of securing's policy. The restricting libraries action was held on territory named Ziemie Odzyskane (Recovered Territories), the other type of collections were former manors houses' libraries regardless of storage area. Next paragraphs contain short history of each of five main storage places based in: Kraków, Poznań, Wrocław, Szczecin, Gdańsk i Katowice. Aim: An attempt to present Rev. Prof. Ludwik Grzebień SJ as a bookseller and documentalist. Methods: A historical analysis of source materials. Conclusions: To present the library and archival achievements of the Professor against the background of the history of the Society of Jesus. The starting point of the considerations is the history and functioning of the Jesuit libraries and archives (also contemporary). Results: The protagonist of this article was one of the most outstanding Jesuit scholars of the modern era. As a librarian, archivist, but also as an author of fundamental works, he became a scientific authority for many contemporary academics, professional users of archives and libraries.

Il saggio prende in esame due biblioteche tardo-seicentesche, di cittadini cracoviesi di origine italiana. Quella di Andrzej Kortyn, ossia Andrea Cortini, italiano di seconda generazione, con poco più di una settantina di titoli; e quella del mercante lucchese Girolamo Pinocci, con poco meno di duemila titoli. La formazione di entrambe risaliva al secolo precedente, e i dati incrociati dell’una e dell’altra ci parlano della Cracovia seicentesca, ma anche di quella che era stata l’antica capitale del Regno, e dei suoi molteplici legami con l’Italia.  
The essay examines two late seventeenth-century libraries owned by Cracovian citizens of Italian origin. The library of Andrzej Kortyn, i.e. Andrea Cortini, a second-generation Italian, included over seventy titles; and the library of the Lucchese merchant Girolamo Pinocci – just under two thousand titles. The formation of both dates back to the previous century, and the cross-referenced data of each speak of seventeenth-century Cracow, but also of what had been the Kingdom’s ancient capital and its multiple links with Italy.
Artykuł omawia dwie biblioteki z drugiej połowy XVII w., będące własnością mieszczan krakowskich pochodzenia włoskiego. Pierwsza z nich, należąca do Andrzeja Kortyna vel Andrei Cortiniego, włoskiego migranta drugiego pokolenia, liczyła nieco ponad 70 tytułów, a druga, której właścicielem był kupiec z Lukki Girolamo Pinocci – nieco mniej niż 2 tys. tytułów. Obydwie powstały w poprzednim stuleciu, a zbiorcza analiza wypływających z nich informacji pozwala na poznanie nie tylko siedemnastowiecznego Krakowa, ale również dawniejszego miasta, niegdyś stolicy Królestwa, oraz jego wielorakich związków z Italią.

This study aims to present the importance and current situation of the libraries in Kosovo Correctional Service; their function and effect on prisoners’ daily lives, rehabilitation, well-being and informal education. To reach this purpose three questions were raised: Do libraries help with prisoners’ informal learning, rehabilitation and reintegration in KCS? Are the prisoners willing to loan books from prison libraries? Do prison libraries in Kosovo offer enough books in different languages for prisoners who come from different ethnic and religious backgrounds? This research is presented through qualitative data, a literature review and interviews as instruments of the research dedicated to prison libraries within KCS and their effect on prisoners’ wellbeing and education. The study results showed that prison libraries impact positively the lives of the incarcerated population while they are paying their debts to society in Kosovo prisons for the crimes committed. Prisoners are eager to borrow medium number of books present in different languages and genres offered to them within Correctional and Detention centers all around Kosovo.

Aim. The main objective of this research is to know the influencing factors for KM practices in the library field of Bangladesh from the user's point of view. Therefore, the study examines the elements influencing Knowledge Management (KM) practice in Bangladeshi university libraries. Methods. Present research used a quantitative approach, by adopting printed survey questionnaire for data collection from the users of the University of Dhaka (DU) and the University of Rajshahi (RU) in Bangladesh. Statistical software IBM®-SPSS® was used for data analysis, and the "partial least squares" (PLS) method was used to test the proposed hypothesis. Results. The findings revealed that KM familiarity and perceptions in gender and current study level varied across users. This study found that all the proposed hypotheses are supported, i.e., the service quality and critical success factors are the most influencing factors for practicing KM in the DU and RU library. Conclusions. The findings provide valuable insights regarding awareness about KM practices and assist university authorities in formulating relevant policies and taking necessary actions for KM practices in libraries. Originality. The present research is one of the first research in Bangladesh that identified the influencing factors of KM from the user’s point of view.

This article is the first study of the library belonging to the Łódź industrialist and art collector Henryk Grohman (1862–1939). It attempts to answer the question of the degree to which analysing these volumes, which are now housed in the collections of the University of Warsaw Library and the National Museum in Warsaw, can prove helpful in the study of art collections. The methodology for researching historical book collections was used to reconstruct and describe the library. These inquiries resulted in more than 165 titles being determined, which originally belonging to Grohman and covered oriental and European arts and crafts, as well as graphic and drawing arts (about 60). These included monographs, albums, and critical catalogues, exhibition and antiquarian nature, published mainly in Western Europe before 1914. The collector’s specialized book collection, built up on an ongoing basis, overlapped with his artistic interests and had the character of a utilitarian library. From the point of view of the study of graphic collections of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, the reference libraries of their creators seem to be of particular importance. In times when taste no longer sufficed to create a valuable collection, and quality and rarity became the main criteria for selecting graphic works, specialized literature on the subject was of help. Created by art historians, collection curators, art market experts, and also private collectors, it introduced the nuanced world of graphic arts. It provided a tool to help identify a print, determine its state, edition and quality, and thus determine the value of a given work. The preserved publications from Grohman’s library were therefore regarded as sources of specialized knowledge that the collector could not acquire either during his education or in his native environment. Three publications have been analysed in detail in the context of Grohman’s graphic arts collection: the series Le peintre-graveur illustré by Loys Delteil (1906–1926), the two-volume catalogue of Jean-Louis Forain’s lithographs and etchings by Marcel Guérin (1910, 1912), and the album devoted to the engravings of Fank Bangwyn prepared by Frank Newbolt (1908). These are publications reflecting the thriving activity of the circle of print enthusiasts of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, which had a significant impact on the dissemination of knowledge about this field of art. The series of relationships revealed between the collection of prints and drawings and the reference library significantly expanded the knowledge on its creator and how the collection was formed. It made it possible to appreciate the collector’s expertise and artistic taste, to observe how his awareness grew, influencing decisions on subsequent purchases, and also to detail the provenance of certain works. Thanks to the research field being expanded to include Grohman’s library, the findings on his graphic collection have become more complete and reliable.

The paper begins with the historical facts related to the collection of CyrilloMethodian sources' photocopies in the Scientific Archive of Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. It aims at identifying the original manuscript copies of some Prologue Vitaе of Cyril and Methodius whose photocopies were preserved in this archive, at finding out their present location, and at checking the available data about them. Three such manuscripts are located in the National Scientific Library of Ukraine in L'viv, one in the Shevchenko Scientific Society and another one in the holdings of the L'viv National Library. The originals of eight other photocopies, however, have not been located and most probably no longer exist, which makes these photocopies the only evidence at present and thus a precious part of the Slavonic CyrilloMethodian heritage. The author of the article presents all the available information about them and publishes the transcripts of three of these photocopies.

Everyday spaces represent central platforms that provide opportunities for encounters marked by ethnic and cultural diversity, where transformations can be negotiated that rethink living together. The significance of these ‘third places’ has been extensively researched. Yet, some spaces such as public libraries continue to be largely overlooked by geographers. Public libraries also remain under-appreciated within wider society despite their obvious social functions. Central here is that public libraries can be understood as dynamic and ‘lived spaces’ that enable the emergence of transient connections and relationships. Such spaces are increasingly sparse within modern cities. This paper explores the potential of everyday spaces of encounter, specifically public libraries, to facilitate the unfolding of ‘light’ connections and relationships, nurturing more inclusive forms of urban togetherness and belonging in multi-ethnic societies and the significance that people attribute to these often mundane encounters and micro connections. In so doing, this paper combines findings from two research projects that investigate mixed or intercultural encounters in public libraries in Bremen (Germany) and Glasgow (Scotland).

During World War II, the Polish state and Polish culture suffered enormous, in many cases difficult to estimate due to the lack, destruction or loss of documentation. This situation was caused mainly by the destructions resulting from hostilities, the accidental ones, but mostly deliberate and deliberately planned. In addition, there was a plunder of Polish cultural goods by the German and Soviet invaders, and then by the occupant. The balance of losses resulting from the destruction and theft, despite many attempts made, starting with Karol Estreicher, through immortalized in post-war reports, reports, sometimes also in publications, taken almost immediately after the end of the war and after a longer break, in the 1990s, they still remain an open tab. The aim of the text is to present the state of knowledge about the extent and scope of losses of larger Polish libraries in large and medium-sized towns, libraries of various provenance, public, scientific and pedagogical during World War II. Therefore, a survey addressed to selected Polish libraries was conducted in 2021. Specific objectives included finding out what the library had done so far to register and recover lost collections before and after 1989. Libraries were asked what had been recovered so far. The survey found whether libraries cooperate with foreign institutions, in particular with libraries, to determine where the lost works are stored. The subject of interest was also obtaining knowledge whether the library cooperates in the field of registration and recovery of war losses with institutions of the Polish state established for this purpose, in particular with the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Justice. As a result, it was also possible to find out whether the library, on its own, undertook work aimed at registration and recovery of war losses. The survey results will be presented and discussed in detail. In addition, the state of work on the registration and recovery of war losses in the Silesian Library in Katowice is presented using the case study method. At the end, conclusions and research postulates were presented.

Artykuł przedstawia problematykę scalania archiwaliów w Polsce w okresie międzywojennym (1918–1939). Po odzyskaniu przez Polskę niepodległości problem scalania archiwów stał się w polskich archiwach państwowych szczególnie ważny, zwłaszcza w kontekście prowadzonej akcji rewindykacji archiwaliów i zbiorów bibliotecznych oraz konieczności ich racjonalnego rozmieszczania w archiwach, jak również w kontekście opracowania i udostępniania zasobu archiwalnego do badań naukowych. Autorka przedstawia najważniejsze problemy, jakie towarzyszyły temu procesowi. Zwraca uwagę na inicjatywy Wydziału Archiwów Państwowych oraz najwybitniejszych archiwistów polskich w tym zakresie. Wskazuje również na aspekty prawne tego procesu oraz na najważniejsze trudności, jakie były związane z jego realizacją. Podkreśla także rolę i wysiłek archiwów i bibliotek naukowych, przede wszystkim uniwersyteckich, w procesie scalania archiwaliów w Polsce w tym okresie.
The aim of this article is to present the issue of consolidation of archival materials in Poland in the interwar years (1918–1939). After Poland regained independence, the problem of merging archives became particularly important for Polish state archives, both in the context of ongoing revindication process of archival records and library collections and the need for their rational distribution in the archives as well as in the context of arranging and making archival resources accessible for scientific research. The author discusses the main problems that accompanied this process. She draws attention to the initiatives of the State Archives Department and the most prominent Polish archivists in this regard. She also points out the legal aspects of this process and the main difficulties associated with its implementation. The author emphasizes the role and efforts of archives and scientific libraries in the process of consolidating archival materials in Poland during the said period.
