Opis:: The subject of the author's considerations are the controversies concerning sex education in Poland, resulting mainly from the clash of two discourses dominating public sphere the conservative one, connected with the Christian (mostly Catholic) world view, and the liberal one, promoting the multitude of visions of sexuality and lifestyles. The author reviews the most recent literature for the youngest readers tackling the subject of physicality (e.g. the bottom and the pooh), human sexuality (anatomy, masturbation), emotional relationships (kisses, dates, good and bad touch), and sexuality (e.g. LGBT, patchwork families). On this basis, it is considered to what extent the authors who break the taboo in their books (by daring narration, illustrations or the subject as such) take into account children's reading competencies, and what consequences it may possibly have for their emotional development.

Opis:: The following essay discusses liberal (arts) education from critical discourse analysis perspective. After a historical and philosophical introduction, three examples of liberal education discourse are discussed: 1) ‘liberal arts’ vs. ‘liberal education’, 2) ‘liberal arts’ and ‘neoliberal arts’ and 3) descriptions of liberal education at Wagner College in 1970 and 2013. The article concludes with a general reflection on liberal education in the current educational landscape and a tentative agenda for using the critical discourse analysis toolbox in further studies.

Opis:: Aim. The aim of the research is to examine how Mainland China and Chinese people are represented in the visual materials of four sets of Liberal Studies (LS) textbooks in Hong Kong. Methods. Fairclough’s Critical Discourse Analysis, viewing language as a social practice and van Dijk’s ideological coding categories are integrated to analyze discursive representations (e.g., the embedded hidden power) in the Hong Kong Today volumes published by four influential commercial publishers: Modern, Ming Pao, Marshall, and Aristo. Results. The analysis reveals that China and mainland Chinese are negatively portrayed in visual images in four commercial LS textbooks, in which, the representations concerning mainland China and mainlanders are all found ideologically biased to highlight their negative characteristics and alienness. Conclusions. Via an overview of Hong Kong’s history, economy, educational policies, and controversial political events, the reasons why China and its people are represented negatively in LS textbooks is explained.

Opis:: References to fear are often associated with narratives created by right-wing parties and media, especially while talking about issues such as gender, LGBTQIA+ or abortion. However, similar practices can be found in centre-liberal discourse, proving that the creation and reproduction of the dialectic of fear can apply to all agents, no matter their political affiliation. The article aims to challenge popular academic perceptions of the sources of fear by proposing a counterperspective that means to shift perception on agents of polarisation. Used examples focus on contemporary Polish mainstream centre-liberal newspapers which reproduce fear in their narrative, adding to both local and worldwide phenomena of political polarisation and radicalisation.

Opis:: Główną inspiracją do napisania niniejszego artykułu była koncepcja władzy-wiedzy Michela Foucaulta, teoria reprodukcji Pierre’a Bourdieu oraz koncepcja modernizacji refleksyjnej Ulricha Becka. Celem autorów jest analiza podstawowych pojęć oraz idei związanych z liberalnym dyskursem dotyczącym edukacji oraz reprodukcji wiedzy w społeczeństwie ponowoczesnym, odznaczającym się globalizacją wiedzy, a zarazem prywatyzacją mechanizmów poznawczych. Autorzy stawiają tezę, że wyżej wymienione procesy wiążą się w ramach odgórnego i wszechogarniającego imperatywu samorealizacji i racjonalności jednostkowej, który pozwala na przenikanie logiki zarządzania rynkiem na poziom mikromechanizmów reprodukcji podmiotowości. Rezultatem tego procesu są zmiany zachodzące we współczesnych programach edukacyjnych Unii Europejskiej i OECD. Tym samym współczesna polityka edukacyjna staje się narzędziem swoistej liberalnej polityki poznania opartej na idei rational actor, zaś system edukacji reprodukuje strukturalne urynkowienie społeczeństwa.
The main inspiration for for this paper came from Michel Foucaulfs concept of power/knowledge, Pierre Bourdieu’s theory of reproduction and the Ulrich Beck’s concept of reflexive modernisation. Authors aim to analyse the basie notions and ideas associated with the liberał discourse on education and knowledge reproduction in the post-modern society, characterised by globalisation of knowledge and privatisation of cognitive mechanisms. The authors posit that those processes are interrelated within the top-down, omnipresent imperative of individual self-fulfilment and rationality, which allows the market- oriented governance logie to permeate the micromechanisms of the reproduction of selfhood. As a result, we witness changes in contemporary educational curricula in the EU and OECD. Therefore, the modern education policy becomes a tool of a liberał cognition policy based on the idea of a rational actor, whereas the education system reproduces the structural marketisation of the society,
