Opis:
In the paper a nonlinear model of a lattice-boom crane with lifting capacity up to 700mT for static analysis is presented. The rigid finite element method is used for discretisation of the lattice-boom and the mast. Flexibility of rope systems for vertical movement and for lifting a load is also taken into account. The computer programme developed enables forces and stress as well as displacements of the boom to be calculated. The model is validated by comparison of the authors’ own results with those obtained using professional ROBOT software. Good compatibility of results has been obtained.

Opis:
Tintinnids (Ciliophora: Spirotricha: Tintinnina) are occasionally the dominant ciliates in the marine plankton. The tintinnid loricae are minute artworks fascinating scientists for more than 230 years, but their chemical composition remained unclear, viz., chitinous or proteinaceous substances were discussed. Since sedimenting loricae contribute to the flux of elements and organic compounds in the oceans, knowledge about their nature is necessary in assessing their ecological role. Previous techniques and new methods, e.g. enzymatic digestion and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy, are applied in the present study. A chitinous nature of the loricae is rejected by the Van-Wisselingh test and failure of chitinase digestion. Only proteins might show a resistance against strong hot bases (KOH at 160°C for ~ 40 min. in tintinnid loricae) similar to that of chitin. Actually, the presence of nitrogen in the EDX analyses and the digestion of at least some loricae by proteinase K strongly indicate a proteinaceous nature. Furthermore, the crystal lattice revealed by high-resolution TEM in Eutintinnus loricae is similar to the proteinaceous surface layer (S-layer) of archaea, and the striation recognizable in transverse sections of Eutintinnus loricae has a periodicity resembling that of the crystalline proteins in the extruded trichocysts of Paramecium and Frontonia. The proteolytic resistance of some loricae does not reject the idea of a proteinaceous nature, as proteins in S-layers of some archaea and in most naturally occurring prions show comparable reactions. The data from the present study and the literature indicate proteins in the loricae of thirteen genera. Differences in the proteolytic resistance and staining properties between genera and congeners are probably due to deviations in the protein composition and the additional substances, e.g. lipids, carbohydrates. At the present state of knowledge, correlations between lorica structure, wall texture, ultrastructure of the lorica forming granules, and the histochemical and enzymatic findings are not evident. Therefore, further studies are required to estimate the taxonomic significance of these features and the ecological role of sedimenting loricae.

A sonic crystal consists of a finite-size periodic array of scatters embedded in a background material. One of the fascinating properties of sonic crystals is the focusing phenomenon. In this study, the near field focusing effect of a solid-air 2D sonic crystal lens with a square lattice configuration is investigated in the second frequency band. The band structure and equifrequency contour of the crystal are analyzed to reveal the dispersion of an acoustic wave on the crystal structure. The frequency dependence of the acoustic wave focalization by the sonic crystal flat lens is demonstrated via Finite Difference Time Domain simulation results and experimental measurements.

The square-type nanowire is simulated on the Bethe lattice by using the core-shell structure consisting of the Ising spins. A nanoparticle is formed by placing a spin to the center and four others to the corners of a square. Then, each nanoparticle is combined with two neighboring ones with a perfect alignment of the squares to form the nanowire. Only nearest-neighbor spin interactions, either ferromagnetic or antiferromagnetic type, are allowed. The phase diagrams are calculated by studying the thermal variations of magnetizations for various values of bilinear interactions. It is found that the model gives both second- and first-order phase transitions in addition to the tricritical points and compensation temperatures.

Opis:
Lattice materials (LM) are a novel concept stemming from the combination of crystallography and structural optimisation algorithms. Their practical applications have become real with the advent of versatile additive layer manufacturing (ALM) techniques and the development of dedicated CAD/CAE tools. This work critically reviews one of the major claims concerning LMs, namely their excellent stiffness-to-weight performance. First, a brief literature review of spatially uniform LMs is presented, focusing on specific strength of standard engineering materials as compared with novel structures. An original modelling and optimisation is carried out on a flat panel subject to combined shear and bending load. The calculated generalised specific stiffness is compared against reference values obtained for a uniform panel and the panel subjected to topological optimisation. The monomaterial, a spatially repetitive solution turns out to be poorly suited for stiff, lightweight designs, because of suboptimal material distribution. Spatially non-uniform and locally size-optimised structures perform better. However, its advantage over manufacturable, topologically-optimised conventional designs can at best be marginal (< 10%). Cubic-cell lattices cannot replace conventional bulk materials in the typical engineering use. The multi-cell-type and multi-material lattice structures, albeit beyond the scope of this article, are more promising from the point of view of mechanical properties. The possibility of approaching the linear scaling reported in the recent litterature can make them an attractive option in ultra-low weight designs.

Let X be an atom (= hereditarily indecomposable continuum). Define a metric ϱ on X by letting $ϱ(x,y) = W(A_{xy})$ where $A_{x,y}$ is the (unique) minimal subcontinuum of X which contains x and y and W is a Whitney map on the set of subcontinua of X with W(X) = 1. We prove that ϱ is an ultrametric and the topology of (X,ϱ) is stronger than the original topology of X. The ϱ-closed balls C(x,r) = {y ∈ X:ϱ ( x,y) ≤ r} coincide with the subcontinua of X. (C(x,r) is the unique subcontinuum of X which contains x and has Whitney value r.) It is proved that for any two (nontrivial) atoms and any Whitney maps on them, the corresponding ultrametric spaces are isometric. This implies in particular that the combinatorial structure of subcontinua is identical in all atoms. The set M(X) of all monotone upper semicontinuous decompositions of X is a lattice when ordered by refinement. It is proved that for two atoms X and Y, M(X) is lattice isomorphic to M(Y) if and only if X is homeomorphic to Y.

In according with the stated conception the purpose of the present work is the reconstruction of some of innumerable microstates of α phase of ferritic steels, definition of its macroparameters and their subsequent comparison with indicators of mechanical properties of industrially let out steels. The establishment of a correlation between the measured indicators of mechanical properties of already created materials and the calculated state parameters of their basic phase opens an opportunity of mechanical properties prediction of materials in dependence on their prehistory that as a matter of fact represents the central task of material science. Simulation of α-phase state of series of industrially let out ferritic steels and alloys is executed in the assumption of identity of its composition to composition of steel or alloy as a whole. The correlation between indicators of mechanical properties of steels and alloys and state parameters of their basic phase is traced.

An unflagging interest in describing future events has continuously motivated investigations, particularly in the field of logic.Aristotle, universally acknowledged as the father of logic, proposed a set of certain bases from which we could depart with our investigations. However, these are tools in which, despite their great value, one can perceive certain shortcomings.Over the centuries many attempts have been made to discover a means of describing any sentence, expressed in any grammatical form. One of these attempts is bilattice theory, through which it has been attempted to describe future events. This theory makes use of tools such as vagueness and different forms of semantics including subvaluationism and supervaluationism. In lattice theory itself, the double lattice known as the FOUR lattice (four-valued bilattice logic) is directly employed. After analyzing the structure of a given theory one may easily make use of it in practice, providing examples of its usage.

Opis:
A theoretical study of artificial neural network modelling, based on vibrational dynamic data for 2D lattice, is proposed in this paper. The main purpose is to establish a neurocomputing model able to predict the 2D structures of crystal surfaces. In material surfaces, atoms can be arranged in different possibilities, defining several 2D configurations, such as triangular, square lattices, etc. To describe these structures, we usually employ the Wood notations, which are considered as the simplest manner and the most frequently used to spot the surfaces in physics. Our contribution consists to use the vibration lattice of perfect 2D structures along with the matrix and Wood notations to build up an input-output set to feed the neural model. The input data are given by the frequency modes over high symmetry points and the group velocity. The output data are given by the basis vectors corresponding to surface reconstruction and the rotation angle which aligns the unit cell of the reconstructed surface. Results showed that the method of collecting the dataset was very suitable for building a neurocomputing model that is able to predict and classify the 2D surface of the crystals. Moreover, the model was able to generate the lattice spacing for a given structure.

In the paper, the numerical modelling of heat transfer in one-dimensional crystalline solid films is considered. A generalized two-layer problem is described by the Boltzmann transport equations transformed in the phonon energy density equations supplemented by the adequate boundary-initial conditions. Such an approach in which the parameters appearing in the problem analysed are treated as the constant values is widely used, but in this paper the interval values of relaxation time and the boundary condition for silicon and diamond are taken into account. The problem formulated has been solved by means of the interval lattice Boltzmann method using the rules of directed interval arithmetic. In the final part of the paper the results of numerical computations are presented.

In this paper a description of heat transfer in one-dimensional crystalline solids is presented. The fuzzy coupled lattice Boltzmann equations for electrons and phonons are applied to analyze the heating process of thin metal films via a laser pulse. Such an approach in which the parameters appearing in the problem analyzed are treated as constant values is widely used. Here, the model with fuzzy values of relaxation times and an electron-phonon coupling factor is taken into account.
