Opis:
Laser power transmission (LPT) is considered a potentially efficient way for power delivery, especially in long-distance wireless applications and harsh hazardous environmental conditions. In contrast to other wireless power transmission (WPT) methods, LPT has many advantages such as lower device size, focused transmitting direction and high power density. With the development of technology, LPT has been widely adopted in several fields. In conservative industries, the utilisation of LPT can resolve the limitation problem in a wired connection. The adverse influence of electromagnetic interference (EMI) concerning application and high-temperature fields can be reduced. This paper will give a simple review of LPT and demonstrate the basic concept of a photoelectric emitter, transmission channel and receiver material. Based on the recent research about diode laser beam combining technology and high-efficiency multi-junction photovoltaics (PV) materials, the advised LPT devices for simple application as laser power motor will be simply discussed.

Opis:
Current achievements in the field of high-power laser diodes (LD) construction are briefly presented. The scope has been limited to issues of heterostructure optimisation in terms of the parameters the most important for high power devices, such as power conversion efficiency (PCE), COD level and an emitted beam quality (M2 and divergence). Presented results (of leading laboratories and ITME) indicate that simultaneous maximisation of these parameters is very difficult. There is a wide diversity of the record-high attainments in terms of preferred design solutions and due to different wavelengths and material systems.

Opis:
Purpose: The primary purpose of the study was the metallurgical characterization of laser welds. The weldability of commercial production of pure titanium and titanium alloy (CP-Ti) has also been examined. Design/methodology/approach: In this research, the laser fibre method was used to weld sheets of pure titanium, and then microscopy and scanning electron microscopy were used to study the changes in the microstructure, the depth of weld penetration and the width of the weld area with changing welding parameters. Findings: The results proved that increasing the laser power significantly increases the depth of weld penetration and weld width. When the heat input is increased, the shape of the weld pool changes from a V shape to an hourglass shape. It was also observed that the depth of the crater formed increases with the increase in the laser power due to the increase in the melting and evaporation of the weld metal. Increasing the welding speed also has a negative impact on the weld geometry because it reduces the heat input and absorption of laser energy by the weld metal and thus reduces the melting of the metal. The microstructure of the fusion zone consists of acicular α. Fine grains formed in the weld centre at low heat input; the granules became columnar-like. Since commercially pure titanium contains a small amount of beta-phase stabilizers, the cooling rate is extremely high for martensite to occur. Research limitations/implications: In the future, it is recommended to study the effect of changing welding parameters on the mechanical properties of pure titanium because of its great importance in industrial and medical applications. Originality/value: Studying the effect of changing laser power and welding speed on the metallurgical properties of pure titanium, and consequently its effect on the mechanical properties of welds.

Opis:
Purpose: of this paper was to analyze the influence of the basic parameters of laser welding (i.e. laser beam power and welding speed, as well as energy input) of butt joints of the 2.0 mm thick stainless steel AISI 304 sheets on the weld shape and joint quality. Design/methodology/approach: The preliminary trials of simulated laser welding by melting the austenitic stainless steel sheets (the so called bead-on-plate welding), as well as the welding of the test butt joints, were carried out using the high-power diode laser (HPDL) ROFIN DL 020, without the additional material (the technique of autogenous welding). A crucial parameter that determines both the mechanical properties and the corrosive resistance of a joint (the region of a weld and HAZ - heat affected zone) in the case of stainless steels with austenitic structure is energy input, which should be kept at a minimum, and at the same time full penetration and a proper shape of the fusion zone should be ensured. The investigations included the macrostructure and microstructure observations by light microscopy, researches of mechanical properties in a static tensile test and also microhardness measurements made by Vickers method. Findings: The results have shown that it is possible to provide a proper shape of the weld of fine-grained structure and narrow heat affected zone, but it requires careful selection of the welding parameters, especially a low energy input. The microhardness measurements showed that the in case of welding the butt joints using the high-power diode laser in HAZ area a slight increase in microhardness to approx. 185HV0.2 compared to base material (160-169HV0.2) and a decrease in microhardness in the fusion zone (FZ) to approx. 140- 150HV0.2 have been observed. All welded sample broke from the joint during the testing at tensile stress between 585 MPa and 605 MPa with corresponding percentage elongation in the range of 45-57%. It can be found that the joints strength is not less than the strength of the base metal of 2.0 mm thick AISI 304 austenitic stainless steel sheet. Research limitations/implications: Studies of the weldability of stainless steels indicate that the basic influence on the quality of welded joints and reduction of thermal distortions has the heat input of welding, moreover the highest quality of welded joints of austenitic stainless steel sheets are ensured only by laser welding. Practical implications: The laser welding technology can be directly applied for welding of austenitic steel AISI 304 sheets 2.0 mm thick. Originality/value: Application of high power diode laser for welding of austenitic stainless steel AISI 304.

This paper presents an investigation into effect of nitrogen content of shielding gas mixture on weld geometry, microstructure and hardness of pulsed laser welded 2205 duplex stainless steel. Full penetration autogenous welding was performed on 2 mm thick plates using a low power pulsed Nd: YAG laser. light and scanning electron microscopy were used to study the resulting microstructures. It is observed that 2 mm full penetrated joint decreases to 1.8 mm by dominating nitrogen in argon-nitrogen mixture. Different morphologies of austenite phase as well as an increase of 8% of its content can be observed in pure nitrogen shielded welds. Average weld grain size in sample which is welded in nitrogen atmosphere stands at approximately 41 μm which is smallerthan that of argon atmosphere which is about 51 μm. Micro-hardness test reveals that hardness values increase from 280 HV in base metal to 307 HV in weld center line and the shielding gas mixture does not significantly influence the weld hardness.

Opis:
One of the methods of obtaining highly accurate and current spatial data about the terrain, as well as objects situated on it, is laser scanning. LIDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) is among the most modern, dynamically developing technologies and reveals in surveying new capabilities that have been unachievable in a traditional way so far. The aim of the publication is to show the possibilities of using data from airborne laser scanning to perform the survey and visualization of the energy network, and also identification of hazards which the present network constitutes for the immediate environment using the TerraSolid software package. The survey was conducted for two independent sections of the power line, on the basis of two different clouds of points obtained from the airborne laser scanning. The first one had a density of 16 points/m2, while the other 22 pts/m2. The project was created in an environment of MicroStation V8i software using special overlays – TerraScan and TerraModeler of Finnish TerraSolid Company. The use of the test clouds of different densities was intended to indicate an optimal density of the cloud of points, which allows carrying out a survey and visualization of the energy network based on data derived from airborne laser scanning. The publication presents on particular examples the procedure of vectorization and visualization of the power line and detection of objects within a dangerous distance from it. The possibility of using applied LIDAR data, meeting the industry requirements, to the survey of power lines has been also confirmed.

1) Background: the modeling, characterization, transformation and propagation of high-power CW laser beams in optical (including fiberoptic) trains and in the atmosphere have become hot topics in laser science and engineering in the past few years. Single-mode output is mandatory for high-power CW laser applications in the military field. Moreover, an unstationary, dynamic operation regime is typical. Recognized devices and procedures for laser-beam diagnostics could not be directly applied because of dynamic behavior and untypical non-Gaussian profiles. 2) Methods: the Wigner transform approach was proposed to characterize dynamically variable high-power CW laser beams with significant deterministic aberrations. Wavefront-sensing measurements by means of the Shack-Hartmann method and decomposition into an orthogonal Zernike basis were applied. 3) Results: deterministic aberration as a result of unstationary thermal-optic effects depending on the averaged power of the laser output was found. Beam quality determined via the Wigner approach was changed in the same way as the measurements of the beam diameter in the far field. 4) Conclusions: such an aberration component seems to be the main factor causing degradation in beam quality and in brightness of high-power CW laser beams.

The results of optimizing laser cutting parameters of footwear materials, i.e. speed and power, are presented. Selected materials were tested, differing in terms of raw material and/or manufacturing method, thickness and intended use. On the basis of the tests, it was found that the physical properties of CO2 laser radiation – Maximus PRO (model: JSM 90 x 60), ensure high quality processing of any footwear materials. The visual effects of the cut depend on the precision of the focal length settings between the flat cutting surface and the laser head, as well as the speed and laser power parameters. Therefore, it is necessary to always select them on the basis of the control tests.

Opis:
We developed a three-stage, amplifying, tunable diode laser system that comprises a master laser in a Littrow configuration, frequency-stabilized by dichroic atomic vapour laser lock, acousto-optic frequency shifter, injection-locked slave laser, and tapered amplifier. The slave amplifies the injected frequency-shifted master beam while suppressing (within 0.5%) the strong dependence of its intensity on the acousto-optic frequency shifter carrier frequency, thus acting as a strongly saturated optical limiting amplifier with constant output power. The resulting beam is then amplified in a tapered amplifier. The system provides an output power above 700 mW at a wavelength of 780 nm, with a time-averaged linewidth of 0.6 MHz, and a frequency drift below 2 MHz/h. Dichroic atomic vapour laser lock enables frequency stabilization in the range of 400 MHz around D2 lines of rubidium. The mode-hop-free tuning range amounts to 2 GHz. Determined by the acousto-optic frequency shifter model used, the fine-tuning range (recision of few tens kHz) spans 70 MHz. A description of the system was presented and its performance was tested. The basic components have been designed in our laboratory.
