Opis:
It is shown in the paper that drop size distribution in liquid-liquid dispersions is affected by both the fine-scale and the large-scale inhomogeneity of turbulence. Fine-scale inhomogeneity is related to the phenomenon of local intermittency and described using a multifractal formalism. Large-scale inhomogeneity is related to inhomogeneous distributions of the locally averaged properties of turbulence, including the rate of energy dissipation and the integral scale of turbulence. Large-scale distributions of the properties of turbulence in a stirred tank are considered with a network of well-mixed zones. CFD methods are used to compute the properties of turbulence in these zones. A model taking into account inhomogeneity of both types explains the effect of the system's scale on drop size; it predicts smaller maximum stable drop sizes than the classic Kolmogorov theory of turbulence. The model predictions agree well with experimental data.

Opis:
This paper provides an overview of the paleomagnetic results which constrain the post-Paleogene tectonic development of the Western Carpathians. A group of these results are relevant to the last stage of the Tertiary folding and thrusting of the Silesian, Dukla and Magura nappes of the Outer Western Carpathian and were obtained from Paleogene-Lower Miocene flysch sediments. Both the pre- and post-folding remanences indicate about 50° CCW vertical axis rotation with respect to the present orientation. This is about a 60° rotation relative to stable Europe. It follows that the general orientation of the Silesian and more internal nappes were NW-SE, at least until the mid-Miocene. The CCW vertical axis rotation was coordinated with that of the Central Carpathian Paleogene Basin. The termination of the rotation can be estimated from the paleomagnetic data available from the Pieniny andesites which intruded the Pieniny Klippen Belt and the southern part of the Magura Nappe as well as from those obtained for the Neogene intramontane basins which opened up in the Outer and in the Central Western Carpathians. The paleomagnetic vectors for the andesites form two groups. The first group suggests about 45° CCW rotation relative to north, while the second shows no rotation. At the present stage of our knowledge it seems likely that some of the andesite bodies were intruded around 18 Ma, which is the oldest isotope age for the intrusions of the Wżar Mts, while some other bodies could have been emplaced after the rotation, around 11 Ma, which is the youngest isotope age for the Brijarka quarry. Vertical axis CCW rotation was also observed on sediments older than 11.6 Ma in the Orava-Nowy Targ Intramontane Basin which saddles the Magura Nappe and the Central Carpathian Paleogene Basin. However, this rotation was related to fault zone activity and was not attributed to the general rotation of the Outer Western Carpathian nappe system. Paleomagnetic results from the Nowy Sącz Intramontane Basin, which opened over the Magura Nappe, and those for the Central Western Carpathian Turiec Intramontane Basin do not indicate vertical axis rotation. In the first case, the loosely controlled age limit of the termination of the rotation is around 12 Ma. Well constrained results from the second basin imply that the rotation was definitely over by 8 Ma. Based on the above observations, and aware of the problem of often loose age control on the formation and deformation of the deposits of the intramontane basins, it is tentatively concluded that the large scale CCW rotation of the Central Western Carpathians, together with the Magura, Dukla and Silesian nappes, must have started after 18 Ma and terminated around 11 Ma.

A method for solving large convex optimization problems is presented. Such problems usually contain a big linear part and only a small or medium nonlinear part. The parts are tackled using two specialized (and thus efficient) external solvers: purely nonlinear and large-scale linear with a quadratic goal function. The decomposition uses an alteration of projection methods. The construction of the method is based on the zigzagging phenomenon and yields a non-asymptotic convergence, not dependent on a large dimension of the problem. The method preserves its convergence properties under limitations in complicating sets by geometric cuts. Various aspects and variants of the method are analyzed theoretically and experimentally.

Formulated the mathematical model and the task of reengineering topological structures of centralized three-tier system of largescale monitoring based on indices of cost and efficiency. The proposed mathematical model explicitly set relations between costs for the reengineering and time processing messages in the system from its structure and topology. The analysis of the objective function revealed that envelopes their local extrema are one-extreme (relative to the number of nodes in the system). Considering this, proposed a method of directed inspection of local extrema, which allow to find best solutions in terms of the minimum additional cost. Selection of the single solution from a set of effective proposed to carry out the method of hierarchy analysis or cardinalist approach aided by the additive function of general utility. The values of the weighting coefficients of the utility functions is carried out by an expert or based on comparator identification. The analysis of system factors determining the efficiency of large-scale objects is performed. Structural description and purposes of large-scale objects constructing are formalized. A three-level decomposition scheme for the problem of objects system optimization including the set of tasks for their system design, planning of development, adaptation and reengineering is proposed. The composition and the scheme of relationship on input and output data of the tasks between main stages of large-scale objects system optimization are determined. Based on the decomposition of the problem, its systemological analysis was carried out. This allowed to develop a technology for system optimization of large-scale objects, taking into account the relationship between the whole set of problem-related tasks.

The study deals with the consequences of national testing at the primary school level on the processes of education, teachers’ work in the classroom and the teaching profession. It is based on the international discourse about the consequences of large-scale testing and investigates Slovak teachers’ opinions and measures they have implemented under the influence of testing in their own instruction and school. The research, carried out by the questionnaire method on a sample of 786 (2017) and 940 (2020) respondents, confirms that teachers perceive national testing as too far from instruction and inconsistent with educational standards. They do not believe it can fulfil the set goals, but, on the other hand, because of it, they narrow down instruction to prepare for tests and take measures that do not change the quality of pupil learning.

Opis:
Temporally and spatially unstable thermal conditions lead to inhomogeneous thermoelastic changes in the workpiece geometry. Consequently, non-negligible geometric deviations are evident, especially when measuring large workpieces with narrow tolerances, which often take place in non-climatized production environments and thus make thermal monitoring indispensable. Accurate determination of the thermoelastic behaviour for complex and large geometries is a challenging task with computationally effortful or less accurate existing solutions. Thus, the development of innovative measurement and modelling approaches is subject of current research, whereat physical validation is a prerequisite. Therefore, the authors developed a method, enabling the emulation of typical process heat cycles on a turbine housing in combination with a geometric measurement system. The idea is to provide reproducible and reversible thermal conditions on a representative large workpiece and to investigate the resulting geometric deformation in an economically viable way. Throughout this study, an analogy test rig is presented, integrating different temperature sensors, two geometric measurement systems and thermal deformation models into one demonstrator. The demonstrator's first applications show insightful results, revealing accordance, but also unexpected deviations between the predicted and measured quantities. Moreover, it provides great potential for validation of more complex modelling approaches and innovative thermal condition monitoring systems for large precision workpieces.

Industrialization is a process which is based on precise and quantitative measurements and contains different basic changes in the economic structure of a country or region. The structural characteristics and spatial distribution of the industrial enterprises established during the industrialization process which is one of the most important elements of the socio-economic transformation in Turkey within a historical process has been the object of this study. The aim of the study was to establish the positions and significance of one thousand (1000) large industrial companies in the industry of Turkey by using the framework of criteria based on sales from production which have been maintained by the Istanbul Chamber of Industry on a regular basis. The workplace and number of employees of the companies on a province basis, sector based division, realized exports and sales from product output, corporate entities, structures, spatial distribution and other characteristics were taken into consideration in the study. Although the thousand large scale companies in Turkey based on production output sales comprised only0.40% of the enterprises active in the industrial sector in 2012, they comprised 12% of the labor force,59.6% of product output sales and 65.2% of all exports. On a regional basis, 54% of these companies are located in the Marmara region, 13.2% are located in Central Anatolia and 12.4% are located in the Aegean region; on a province basis, 63.4% are located in Istanbul, Izmir, Bursa, Kocaeli and Ankara. A sector based division of the companies shows that 21.4% are involved in food, beverage and tobacco processing, 19.6% are involved in the industry of metal goods, machinery, automotive industry, electrical tools and equipment and 16.1% deal with textiles, ready-to-wear, leather and the manufacturing of shoes. In terms of labor force numbers, the figures vary as 18.9%, 27.4% and 17.9% respectively.

The last two decades is a time of extremely intensive rescue excavations, preceding great investments. This article is a contribution to the discussion over the way of research analyses of remains from settlement sites excavated on a large scale. The authors presented their viewpoints on the method of description of sources and approach to distinguishing settlement structures. The starting point for the separation of the different settlements episodes should be a chronological scheme of the local evolution developed on the basis of the analysed materials. Evolution trend analysis of mass materials, mainly ceramics, should be preceded by a reflection about depositional and post-depositional processes. For the sites that manifest themselves only on the surface, the most important role is played by the spatial analysis. The authors suggest that the level of detail of conclusions about spatial diversity of the site, especially separation of units and phases of development, should be directly proportional to the credibility of chronological determinations.

This study presents a comprehensive synoptic analysis of one of the most violent storms recorded in recent years in the northwestern part of Poland, which occurred on August 11, 2017. Its development took place ahead of a waving cold front in the tropical air mass, downstream of the upper-level trough. The thunderstorms formed over Lower Silesia in the afternoon and moved towards Gdańsk Pomerania to occur over the Baltic Sea after midnight on August 12, 2017, where they gradually disappeared. As the thunderstorms moved through this area, they ranged from single convective cells and unorganized multicell storms through supercell thunderstorms to mesoscale convective systems in the form of bow echo squall lines and the mesoscale convective vortex (MCV). The convective system, evolving over time, fulfilled the derecho criteria. Its development was related to the presence of both the upper and mid-level jet stream, which supported the formation of a strong rear inflow jet (RIJ) in the rear part of the convective system, being one of the main factors generating the formation of a bow echo squall line with strong wind gusts. The maximum wind gusts recorded on August 11, 2017, are among the highest in the history of Polish measurements and amounted to 42 m/s in Elbląg, 36 m/s in Chrząstów, 35 m/s in Gniezno, and around 30 m/s at several other stations.

In this article, the optimal loading of homogeneous marine cargo is considered. A mathematical formulation in terms of a mixed-integer linear program can be given. Still, the level of complexity turns out to be too high to perform full-scale computations. On the one hand, the reasons for this are the multitude of variables and constraints. On the other hand, feasible solutions to such problems may often be economically unacceptable or simply empty. Therefore, a heuristic is presented, according to which the relaxation of the limiting conditions influencing the solution’s feasibility and its economic profitability was parametrized. Under this heuristic, shifting the deadlines of selected orders is allowed. Also, the assignment of orders to vessels is separated from the allocation of vessels to piers in loading and unloading ports. The solution presented can be easily generalized by adding additional restrictions or features like indirect vessels, founding cost, or differentiation between materials.
