The structures of a foreign language, presented by a teacher-sender, are received bya learner as specific signals that are subject to phonetic-phonological and graphic-graphemic decoding. They are accordingly transferred to the foreign-language center, in which semanticgrammatical decoding is performed. Individual structures acquired in this fashion constitute constructive elements of the storage mechanism for learning language in the form of constant structure-matrices. In the process of the receptive-productive dynamization of the language’s structures, the learner simultaneously masters their effectiveness and potential, which make it possible to apply the codified information to current situations. Autonomous forms of learning a foreign language lead to an increase in the reserves of vocabulary and to its more effective application. Independent manipulation of a foreign language in emergent situations means that the learner develops the ability to use it in contacts with communicative partners.

This paper elaborates on the notion of language awareness among multilingual students. In the first part the author presents the results of a research study whose objective was to assess if multilingual students are aware that the languages they speak and study (English and German) interact constantly and if they recognize the phenomenon of the positive and negative transfer. The subjects were students of Applied Linguistics at the universities of Bydgoszcz, Gdańsk and Poznań in Poland. The second part of the article is an attempt to connect theory and practice. It contains some suggestions how to improve multilingual foreign language teaching. A comparison and discussion of grammar structures aims to promote language awareness among students of foreign languages.

The following article considers the concept of the trichotomous arrangement of codeprocesses involved in acquiring foreign languages. It particularly focuses on the site, course, and results of processes whereby foreign-language structures are encoded. The processes of encoding known foreign-language structures take place: first, during the completion of consolidating exercises that aim at attaining appropriate proficiency; second, in the course of decoding and coding foreign-language information; and third, in the course of ego-centered communicative processes, in which the language user fulfills the function both of sender and of receiver.

Seit kurzem werden die Versetzungsstrukturen immer haufiger zum Untersuchungsgegenstand der linguistischen Forschung. Dieses Interesse ist kommunikativ-pragmatisch determiniert, d. h. es erfolgt aus dem Bewusstsein ihrer Bedeutung bei der informationsstrukturellen Gliederung von Auserungen. Das Ziel des vorliegenden Beitrags ist die Vorkommenshaufigkeit sowie Vielsichtigkeit der Herausstellungsstrukturen in der betreffenden Funktion in Pressetexten der beiden Sprachen (Deutsch-Polnisch) aufzuzeigen.
Dislocation structures are increasingly becoming an object of linguistic research. This interest is determined communicatively and pragmatically, i. e. it results from the awareness of these constructions in information-structural aspects of utterances. The aim of the present paper is to determine frequency of occurrence as well as complexity of dislocation structures in this function in German and Polish print media.

Various forms of language-activity influence the acquisition of a foreign language. In this article, the author underlines the importance of foreign-language exercises, and their effectiveness in the developing the learner’s encoding of decoded foreign-language information structures in the form of constant structure-matrices. The theories of teaching and learning drawn on in the article point to the variety of methods and degrees of foreign-language acquisition, both through cognitive exercises and through the pattern approach. Such exercises develop receptive and productive language-communication skills.

The paper constitutes a psychodynamic analysis of the language as used in the medical expertise today. Particularly, low psycholinguistic and stylistic awareness on the part of medicine practitioners is discussed, which contributes to the communication intention violation, ultimately to communication failure between the doctor and the patient being two participants in the commu- nication dyad. This preliminary discussion points to the necessity of more conscious linguistic choices on the part of people working in the health care sector, who can model their patients ‘in the direction of health’, and start prevention programs based on psycholinguistic modeling via language used in communication with the patient.

Tematem niniejszego artykułu jest opis struktur wewnątrzwyrazowych we współczesnym ogólnonarodowym języku chińskim. W pięciu częściach omawia się kolejno: wyrazy monomorfemiczne, reduplikacje, formacje afiksalne, formacje semantemowe o wewnętrznej strukturze składniowej oraz formacje syntetyczne. Słownictwo poddane analizie to wyrazy polisylabiczne, również te o statusie wyrazów złożonych. Wyrazy monomorfemiczne polisylabiczne wraz z krótkim odniesieniem do wyrazów monomorfemicznych monosylabiczych przedstawione są w części pierwszej artykułu. Część druga opisuje budowę wyrazów o strukturze reduplikacji z uwzględnieniem ich szczególnego typu – reduplikacji złamanych. W części trzeciej zaprezentowane są formacje afiksalne, obejmujące zarówno wyrazy zawierające afiksy właściwe, jak i quasi-afiksy. Wyrazy semantemowe o strukturze podmiotowo-orzeczeniowej, koordynacyjnej, determinacyjnej, rekcyjnej i komplementywnej, a także wyrazy wielosemantemowe zawierające spiętrzone struktury składniowe omówione są w części czwartej. Rozmaite typy formacji syntetycznych, to jest wyrazów powstałych na skutek połączenia różnych typów struktur wewnątrzwyrazowych, przedstawione są w części piątej.
The topic of the paper is to describe the inside word structures of Modern Standard Chinese. In the five parts of the paper, five groups of words are discussed: monomorphemic words, reduplications, affix formations, semanteme formations with the internal syntactic structure, and synthetic formations. Analyzed vocabulary consists of polysyllabic words, including those with the status of compound words. In the first part of the article, the monomorphemic polysyllabic words are presented with a brief reference to the monomorphemic monosyllabic words. The second part describes the structure of words with the reduplication and their particular type—broken reduplication. In the third part, the affix formations are presented, including words containing proper affixes and quasi-affixes. The semanteme formations with subject-predicative, coordinative, determinative, rective and complementive structures, as well as the multisemanteme words containing stacked syntactic structures are discussed in the fourth section. Various types of synthetic formations, i.e. words formed by the combination of different types of the inside word structures, are presented in the fifth section.

Legal translation has played an important part in the contact between different people and countries in the history, and is playing an even more significant role in the increasingly globalized world nowadays. The paper is to explore smart learning models of legal translation competence that the proper legal translators and interpreters are supposed to grasp. The results find that the prerequisites about knowledge of comparative laws, legal languages and forensic linguistics are the external framework; the legal translational language competence, legal translational knowledge structures, legal translational strategic competence and context of situation are the internal model. Based on the external framework and internal model, exploring translation competence mainly concerns on the organizational competence and pragmatic competence.
Tłumaczenie prawnicze odegrało ważną rolę w kontaktach między różnymi ludźmi i krajami w przeszłości, a obecnie odgrywa jeszcze większą rolę w coraz bardziej zglobalizowanym świecie. W badaniu wykorzystano studium przypadku oraz narzędzie do analizy danych inteligentnych modeli kształcenia certyfikowanych tłumaczy prawnych. Dzięki przeprowadzonej analizie sprawy nr 75 Najwyższego Sądu Ludowego Chińskiej Republiki Ludowej, wykresy pokazują, że tłumacz prawniczy posiada pewne kompetencje, chociaż istnieją pewne wady w tłumaczeniu, które nie wykazują integracji wszystkich kompetencji translacyjnych. Wyniki pokazują, że wstępne wymagania dotyczące znajomości prawa w aspekcie porównawczym, języków prawnych i językoznawstwa sądowego stanowią zewnętrzną strukturę modeli inteligentnego uczenia się, a wewnętrznym modelem są kompetencje językowe w zakresie tłumaczeń ustnych, prawne struktury translacyjne, kompetencje strategiczne w zakresie tłumaczenia prawnego oraz kontekst sytuacyjny. Cały model jest wieloelementowy, interaktywny, dynamiczny i rozbudowany.

In order to ease modelling procedures, eliminate repetitive effort and save time, modern CAD tools offer the ability to automate tasks via a programming language. Moreover, when the design is an iterative process, the automation permits updating the design variables to generate a new model at each iteration. Based on UG/OPEN GRIP functionalities, this paper aims at developing a parametric model of a curved leading edge aircraft wing. The model is built by executing a GRIP program in which wing parameter values can be assigned via a dialog box.

Autor dokonał analizy udziału Niemców w najważniejszych strukturach Unii Europejskiej pod kątem ich wpływu na procesy decyzyjne w tej organizacji. Podkreślił, że wprawdzie pod względem ilości urzędników Niemcy nie są reprezentowani proporcjonalnie do liczby ludności, ale to w ich rękach znajdują się najważniejsze stanowiska. Język niemiecki uznawany jest za język roboczy w UE, ale z różnych przyczyn posługuje się nim niewiele osób. Rząd niemiecki, Auswärtiges Amt i Instytut Goethego od wielu lat zabiegają o zwiększenie posługiwania się językiem niemieckim w administracji UE, ale nie przynosi to spodziewanych efektów.
The author analyzed the participation of Germans in the most important structures of the European Union in terms of their impact on decision-making processes in this organization. He emphasized that, although in terms of the number of officials, Germany is not represented in proportion to the population, but the most important positions are in their hands. German is recognized as a working language in the EU, but for various reasons few people speak it. The German government, Auswärtiges Amt and Goethe Institute have been striving for many years to increase the use of German in the EU administration, but this is not bringing the expected results.

Ontologic structures in a socio-political editorial – a socio-cognitive approachThe aim of the present study is to analyze the conceptualization of ontological structures in a special type of journalistic writing represented by a socio-political editorial. According to the socio-cognitive approach (Goffman, Langacker), the author discusses the problem of discursive mechanisms related to the persuasive function of language and classification. Therefore, in basis of the gathered linguistic corpus, which constitutes of forty French editorials, treating about university and public service pension reforms, culled from the web pages of different journals and magazines (2007–2008), the author intends to describe the distribution of two semantic roles such as agent and patient (by means of the synthetic scheme presented in this paper) in the context of the persuasiveness of media communication. The way of constructing the semantic roles of participants both influences and modifies the readers’ opinions and their perception of the world.

Praca poświęcona jest problematyce syntezy komparatorów binarnych w strukturach CPLD/FPGA. Opracowano metody opisu komparatorów w postaci piramidalnych struktur hierarchicznych. Do budowy komparatorów wykorzystano język Verilog i edytor graficzny. Badania eksperymentalne wykonano dla komparatorów 64-bitowych w środowisku Quartus II firmy Altera. Przeprowadzone badania wykazały, że istnieją struktury hierarchiczne, które są bardziej efektywne od wbudowanej funkcji lpm_compare pakietu Quartus II. W najlepszym przypadku uzyskano zmniejszenie maksymalnego czasu propagacji o 44%.
The paper deals with the problem of binary comparator synthesis in CPLD/FPGA structures. Comparators were built with the usage of the Verilog language and the Quartus II graphics editor [10]. Section 1 describes the notion of a digital comparator, its basic usage [1-4] and research directions [6-10]. Section 2 presents the general hierarchical structure of the comparator (Fig. 2). Section 3 describes the method of building new hierarchical structures of 64-bit comparators. Section 4 presents the results of experimental research. Comparators were built and tested in the Altera Quartus II environment. In the experimental research, the 64-bit hierarchical comparators were compared with the 64-bit comparator built with the direct usage of the lpm_compare library function of the Quartus II package. The research was conducted on three CPLD families (MAX 3000 A, MAX II and MAX V) and two FPGA families (Cyclone III and Arria II GX). Three parameters were compared: implementation cost, maximum propagation delay and overall power dissipation. The conducted research demonstrates the existence of hierarchical structures which are better than the in-built lpm_compare function. For the MAX 3000 A family, the implemented hierarchical methods of comparator synthesis show the improved results: 32% in the implementation cost, 44% in the maximum propagation delay and 18% in the overall power dissipation. The improved results for Arria II are as follows: 17% in the implementation cost and 26% in the maximum propagation delay.

This text is an attempt at analysing the linguistic image of a J ew on the basis of Hôrkij śmich by a little-known Ukrainian poet Leon Węgliński. According to researchers, every language has a specific interpretation of reality which is expressed in a unique view and perception of the world. This article, through a thorough analysis of the vocabulary, grammar structures and descriptions, shows the images of a J ew in the nineteenth century: his identity, character traits and daily functioning. The material gathered for the study presents a definitely negative image of a J ew.
