Opis:
Artykuł poświęcony jest oglądowi sytuacji językowej na Ukrainie, w szczególności na Zakarpaciu, w okresie jednego roku, tj. od wprowadzenia nowej ustawy o edukacji (wrzesień 2017) do przyjęcia projektu ustawy o funkcjonowaniu języka ukraińskiego jako państwowego (październik 2018). Stan języka ukraińskiego jako języka państwowego zbadano w kontekście wydarzeń społeczno-politycznych w kraju i na świecie. Na podstawie analiz, jak również przeprowadzonych w tym okresie wielu dogłębnych i sformalizowanych wywiadów z różnymi kategoriami respondentów możliwe jest zbadanie procesu wyboru języka, zwłaszcza języka edukacji, z uwzględnieniem rozwoju kulturalno-politycznego współczesnego społeczeństwa ukraińskiego w jego najbardziej wysuniętej na zachód części — Zakarpaciu.
The article presents an overview of the lingual situation in Ukraine, in the Transcarpathian region in particular, within the time span of a year since the law On education (September 2017) was ratified till the adoption of the draft of the law whose aim is to ensure functioning of Ukrainian as the state language. The status of Ukrainian as a state language is considered in the closest connection with socio-political phenomena in the country and the whole world. The analysis of deep and formalized interviews with different categories of respondents conducted during this period sheds light on the process of language selection in the field of education, in particular as a sign of cultural and political development of contemporary Ukrainian society in its westernmost part — Transcarpathia.

В статье анализируется язык рекламного текста в аспекте выбора стратегий и тактик речевого воздействия. В связи с развитием международного туризма в Беларуси интересным представляется охарактеризовать стратегию убеждения и тактики ее реализации в рекламных текстах о белорусских достопримечательностях. Для проведения исследования использовались метод избирательной выборки, описательный метод, стилистический метод. В исследовании описаны тактики реализации стратегии убеждения, установлены языковые средства реализации стратегии убеждения и их прагматическая роль. Делается вывод о разнообразии в использовании тактик стратегии убеждения в рекламных текстах о белорусских достопримечательностях. Разноуровневые языковые средства служат для реализации стратегии убеждения, воздействуя на потребителя на логическом и эмоциональном уровнях и обеспечивая эффективное управление его мнением.
The article analyzes the language of an advertising text in the context of selection of strategies and tactics of speech manipulation. In connection with the development of international tourism in Belarus, it is interesting to describe the strategy of persuasion and tactics of its implementation in advertising texts about Belarus’s popular destinations. The research employed the method of selective sampling, descriptive method, and stylistic method. The study describes the tactics of implementing the strategy of persuasion, establishes the linguistic means of implementing it and their pragmatic role. In conclusion, the author highlights the diversity of use of persuasion strategy tactics in advertising texts about Belarusian attractions. Multi-level language tools are used to implement the strategy with a view to influencing tourist consumers at logical and emotional levels and ensuring effective management of their opinion.

Jednym z warunków opracowania dobrej strategii rozwoju jest to, aby powstawała na zasadach partnerskich a jej właścicielami byli wszyscy uczestnicy procesów rozwojowych w danej Jednostce Samorządu Terytorialnego. Komunikacja wizualna wydaje się doskonałą płaszczyzną prowadzenia dialogu pomiędzy partnerami wywodzącymi się z różnych środowisk. Miasta na prawach powiatu w Polsce są prekursorami ilustrowania planów pozastatutowych. Obecnie stosowany jest stosunkowo wąski wachlarz instrumentów graficznych. Badania wykazały, że nastawienie samorządowców do komunikacji wizualnej w strategiach jest bardzo pozytywne, a bariery w stosowaniu są do pokonania, można przypuszczać, iż kolejne aktualizacje dokumentów będą bogatsze w warstwie graficznej.
One of the key conditions for creating a good development strategy is the stakeholders’ partnership and their shared ownership at the implementation stage. Visual communication seems to be tailored for facilitating dialogue between partners with a variety of professional background and representing different interests. Cities with powiat status are leading the trend of illustrating non statutory planning documents. There is a relatively narrow range of graphics applied. The research results indicated that Polish local government officials have positive attitude towards visual communication, therefore new editions of local strategies are expected to use graphics more extensively.

The predominant context for strategy research over the last three decades has focused on language learning situated in a conventional classroom environment. Computer technology has brought about many changes in language learning and has become ecological and normalized rather than a supporting tool in the language classroom. Consequently, the landscape of language learning has been rapidly and largely changed with the normalization of technologies in people’s daily communication. The pervasive use of mobile technologies and easy access to online resources require that digital language learners understand and employ appropriate learning strategies for learning effectiveness and that their teachers are able and willing to teach these strategies as needed. This article provides an overview of the state-of-the-art research into technology-enhanced language learning strategies. The strategies under review include those for language learning skill areas, language subsystems, and self-regulated learning. At the end, we discuss the pressing issues that Digital Age language learning has posed to learners, teachers, and researchers and propose considerations for strategy research in digital realms.

W artykule przedstawiono zarys różnych strategii uczenia się języka obcego, których obecność można zauważyć także w cenionych metodach i koncepcjach wychowania muzycznego w szkole. Podobieństwa muzyki i języka od wielu lat są przedmiotem dyskusji filozofów, muzykologów, językoznawców i psychologów. Co więcej, wraz z rozwojem technik neuroobrazowych dostarczono naukowych dowodów przybliżających analogie występujące w procesie percepcji struktur językowych i muzycznych. W artykule wskazano podobieństwa języka i muzyki w zakresie dydaktyki, ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem sposobów ich nabywania. W odniesieniu do strategii uczenia się języka obcego przedstawiono analogiczne strategie uczenia się muzyki. Przedmiotem rozważań są też możliwości korelacji obu dziedzin oraz metody CLIL (Content and Language Integrated Learning). Metoda CLIL, która obecnie coraz częściej stosowana jest w szkolnictwie ogólnokształcącym, w odniesieniu do muzyki może przynieść podwójne korzyści. Taka forma zintegrowanego nauczania muzyczno-językowego może być stosowana zarówno w powszechnym kształceniu muzycznym, jak i w szkolnictwie muzycznym I i II stopnia. Ponadto krótko opisano niedawno przeprowadzone badania dotyczące wprowadzenia metody CLIL do szkolnictwa muzycznego II stopnia.
The article presents an outline of various foreign language learning strategies, the presence of which can also be seen in well-known methods and concepts of music education at school. The similarities between music and language have been the subject of discussion among philosophers, musicologists, linguists, and psychologists for many years. Moreover, along with the development of neuroimaging techniques, scientific evidence has been provided to approximate the analogies that occur in the process of perceiving linguistic and musical structures. This article outlines the similarities of language and music in terms of didactics and focuses on the ways they are acquired. It presents the existent analogies between the strategies of foreign language learning and strategies used in music learning. The subject of consideration are also the ways of music and language learning integration, which could be provided by introducing CLIL method (Content and Language Integrated Learning). The CLIL method, which is now increasingly used in general education, can bring double benefits in relation to music. This form of integrated music and language teaching can be used both in general music education and in primary and secondary music education. In addition, recent research on the introduction of CLIL to secondary music education is briefly described.

The author discussed the concept of communication strategies and the two most popular research approaches: interactive and sociolinguistic. She presented strategic activities of students learning Polish as a second language, which appeared during the classes held at the Polish Language Center for Foreigners at the University of Lodz, both during the observation of the lesson and during the classes conducted by the author. These strategies included: achievement strategies (paraphrase, comparison, simplification, use of synonyms, neologisms, and language code switching), help request, non-verbal means, and avoidance strategies. The author also discussed examples of negotiating meanings and the use of modern technologies as a helpful tool in applying communication strategies.
Autorka omówiła pojęcie strategii komunikacyjnych oraz dwa najpopularniejsze podejścia badawcze: interakcyjne i socjolingwistyczne. Przedstawiła działania strategiczne uczących się języka polskiego jako obcego, które pojawiały się podczas zajęć odbywających się w Studium Języka Polskiego dla Cudzoziemców Uniwersytetu Łódzkiego zarówno w trakcie obserwacji lekcji, jak i podczas prowadzonych przez autorkę zajęć. Wśród omówionych strategii znalazły się: strategie osiągnięć (parafraza, porównywanie, uproszczenie, stosowanie synonimów, tworzenie neologizmów oraz przełączanie kodu językowego), prośba o pomoc, użycie środków niewerbalnych oraz strategie uniku. Autorka omówiła również przykłady negocjowania znaczeń oraz wykorzystywanie nowoczesnych technologii, jako narzędzia pomocnego przy stosowaniu strategii komunikacyjnych.

The article focuses on the French philology students’ skills of interpreting emotions in radio debates. Data analysis was conducted with the use of the interactional approach, discourse analysis and the rhetorical argumentation approach. The aim was to better understand the students’ interpretative actions and especially, their perception of ethos and pathos. The second objective of the study was to conduct a pilot test of the methodology inspired by research on argumentation in discourse in order to analyze persuasive discourse in a foreign language.

English language tutoring and/or self-access centers are services commonly offered as curricular support to English language program students in educational environments worldwide. This paper argues that the theory of self-directed learning (SDL) from the field of adult education should be considered alongside the equally-important areas of language learning strategies, learner autonomy, and self-regulated learning in the setup of these types of tutoring/self-access academic support centers. The proposition is examined by applying it to a particular case in an English language program of a major research university in the southeastern United States. The paper explicates the commonly-known theory of SDL (Grow, 1991) and relates it to models by put forward by Nakata (2010) and Oxford (2011, 2107). Empirical evidence from studies on encouraging SDL for English language study is summarized from a range of research projects conducted worldwide, and the author concludes by offering implications for educators in any institution-based, adult English language program.

In traditional classrooms, where students are evaluated on the basis of their actions, poor performance is closely linked to the lack of ability. Many students often see failure as a threat to their positive self-image and instead of increasing efforts, apply various ego-protective strategies to shift attention from real or hypothesized lack of ability to other factors influencing unsatisfactory production. In both cases self-worth is protected. This paper aims at performing a motivational analysis of two such strategies, i.e. self-handicapping and defensive pessimism used by secondary school students in achievement context.

This article reports the findings of a qualitative study aimed at investi-gating the use of L1-based grammar learning strategies by beginner-level Polish learners of L2 English. The research looked into the partic-ipants’ accounts of their strategy use and into their perceptions about the usefulness of referring to one’s L1 in learning L2 grammar. Semi-structured interviews were conducted as a data elicitation procedure. The findings pointed to considerable reliance on L1-based strategies, such as translation, in the participants’ learning of L2 English grammar, as well as positive opinions about their usefulness. L1-based strategies were reported to be used in explicit, analytic learning of L2 grammar, and their affective role in providing confidence to learners was also mentioned. Pedagogical implications include a need to raise learners’ awareness of the complex roles of the L1 in L2 learning and give them training in the use of specific strategies in order to make L1-based strategy use more informed.

This paper presents an overview of the activities and results of the European Network of German and Contrastive Linguistics (GerCoLiNet), which was part of the European University Alliance 4EU+ (May 2021 – June 2022). With the cooperation of five European universities (Copenhagen, Milan, Paris, Prague, Warsaw) as well as the Institute for German Language (Mannheim) as an external partner, the network put together a training programme for MA and PhD students of German language and literature at the universities involved in the project. Developed within the framework of contrastive linguistics, the programme takes into account empirical approaches to both theoretical and applied aspects with special attention paid to the fields of Corpus Linguistics, Lexicology, Lexicography, and Discourse Analysis. In keeping with the basic ideals of Flagship 2, i.e. Europeanness, data literacy and multilingualism, particular emphasis was placed on networking among students and young academics within the 4EU+ Alliance. In this paper I first discuss the role and the importance of German, the exclusive lingua franca within the project, as an identity-forming element. Then, I explain the four main phases of the project; finally, I outline some innovative teaching strategies which were used to promote and increase interaction between partners as well as between the students involved in the project.

This article explores the problems which occur when teaching the translation of functional texts into a foreign language (from Polish into German). The article especially focuses on lexicalterminological and pragmatic translation mistakes, their causes, and strategies for avoiding them. One of the biggest challenges when translating into a foreign language is to use correct and adequate equivalents. The authors argue that the competences needed for this task should be taught as early as possible during translation training. The authors have therefore analysed texts translated by BA translation students and have chosen examples which represent the most frequent categories of mistakes, e.g. word-to-word translation, breaching the target language‘s conventions, and (inter)cultural problems. The solutions proposed are based on functional translation theory and translation criticism, and also take into account the classifications of mistakes used in translation didactics.

The present article analyses trigrams – words constructions that have properties of phrasemes. The studied trigrams have been excerpted from task-oriented dialogues (conducted between participants of a linguistic experiment). It turns out that phrasematic trigrams perform different communication and semantic functions: establishing and enhancing contact, feedback positive, “simple adverbiality” and “complex adverbiality”. Wszyscy rozumiemy istotę wyrażenia mówić/powiedzieć coś dyplomatycznie. Wielki Słownik Języka Polskiego podaje dwa zasadnicze komponenty znaczeniowe tego wyrażenia: powiedzieć coś (1) grzecznie i (2) wymijająco. W artykule staram się odpowiedzieć na pytanie jakie są podstawowe mechanizmy językowe pozwalające ocenić wypowiedź jako dyplomatyczną. Mechanizmy te to z jednej strony mechanizmy grzeczności językowej: pozytywne i negatywne strategie grzecznościowe w ujęciu Brown i Levinsona oraz, z drugiej strony, swoiste gry językowe oparte na Zasadzie Kooperacji Grice’a. Dodatkowo zwracam też uwagę na inne marginalne mechanizmy, których nie da się zanalizować na podstawie grzeczności i gier językowych.
The basic meaning of the phrase speak/say something diplomatically is intuitively understood by all of us. Those intuitions are rendered in dictionaries by saying something (1) politely, and (2) evasively. The article is an attempt to answer the question what are the underlying language mechanisms that allow us to evaluate an utterance as diplomatic. Those mechanisms are on the one hand positive and negative politeness strategies as postulated by Brown & Levinson, and on the other hand, specific language games based on the Gricean Cooperative Principle. Additionally, some other marginal mechanisms involved in diplomatic speech are also analysed.

The major task of this paper is to show and discuss the tools, techniques and strategies which affect the development of phraseological competence in foreign languages. First, the author will investigate a wide range of available dictionaries as well as French textbooks. Then, the selected techniques and phraseo-didactic strategies will be explored. Finally, the author will provide an in-depth review of the method according to which the discussed techniques and strategies have been put in practice in the selected texts on phraseo-didactics.
