Opis:
The present article is focused on the newest compounds with the foreign element homo-/xoмo-- and gej-/гeй- in Polish and Bulgarian languages. The source of language material are mainly Polish and Bulgarian press texts. The morphological structure of the compound types under discussion is described. Difficulties regarding the classification of new structures are stressed. Semantic analysis is introduced in the form of a proposal for deifinitons of the first components of the compound. In order to document the contexts of use of the lexemes (indirectly, the frequency of derivates and productivity of series), an Internet search query is performed. Essential differences between productivity and functioning of both types of compounds in the languages under discussion are described. Formal and semantic properties of the compounds, which may have a significant impact on the significant presence of such formations in the media language, are specified.

Opis:
The author presents the proceedings used by the linguists involved in the media research highlights dominant approaches, distinguishes two hypothetical ones: hegemonic and sovereign, and discusses challenges related to both of them. Hegemonic approach in the media research means the a distinctly defined subject of the study, that is the language of the media, precisely defined subject of analysis, namely the language of the media, and a supremacy of linguistic methods used in the analysis. The linguist as a sovereign prefers an open attitude towards methods applied in the study. Such an approach considers achievements of the media scholarshop as well as other related scientific disciplines. This attitude in the media research means that the linguist analyzes an image of the world in the media, a stylistic differentiation of the media communication, media genres, and the discourse. Furthermore, the linguist as a sovereign claims creating a new linguistic discipline and widens the research field with contrastive issues.

The article is devoted to semantics of the contaminated structures. The presented analysis is based on the language of Russian and Polish media. From this point of view we can distinguish: 1) contaminations with the meaning being a sum of meanings of their components, and 2) contaminations with the meaning being the accumulation of meanings of their components. The semantic dominant of the given contaminations is concentrated in one of the elements or appears independently of components, meaning the distinct term as a sum of the components.

The paper deals with blends – compound words which are formed by blending of form and meaning of two (or more) words – in contemporary Croatian language. Due to their structural peculiarity and expressiveness, they have been very frequent in Croatian language of commercials and media during the last decade or so. On the basis of corpus collected from Croatian commercials, electronic publications and news portals from 2009 to 2016, the paper analyses the structure of blends, their meanings and their place in the lexical system of Croatian language.

Opis:
This paper is a reflection on the theological and pastoral implications of the communication of faith through the media. Its starting point is not based on the dichotomous categorisation of the media as either very beneficial, or very negative for the communication of faith; thus avoiding an either/or attitude which is very limiting. The hypothesis explored is that the language of faith is only communicated through the language of a medium and that such a translation, not to say incarnation, has to take into consideration the technological, organisational and cultural dimensions of the legacy or traditional media as well as their very important role in contemporary culture. The cultural and theological reflection will then be followed by the proposal of elements of a pastoral strategy that best respects the characteristics of faith and media as well as those of the audiences towards which both faith and media are directed.

Opis:
In the article, medical terminology in the modern Slavic languages is examined on the basis of mass-media resources. Based on Ukrainian, Russian, Belarussian and Polish media the stylistic functions of medical terminology and their functional role in modern informative space are analyzed. The language material gives an opportunity to explain the feature of secondary nomination of terms and also to analyze the stylistic transformations of medical terms in the Slavic mass-media texts. Special attention is paid to the semantic process of determinologization, due to which the medical terms can have different functions. It is well-proven, that media communication is a productive context for the functioning of medical terminology that envisages the achievement of the effect of predictability, influence on the recipient and designing of emotionally- expressive estimation of the information. Analyzing modern mass-media in Ukraine, the Russian Federation, the Republic of Belarus and the Republic of Poland, it is possible to make a conclusion about the prospects of media terminological transformation for the modern dynamic processes of evolution of Slavic literary languages.

Opis:
The authors of this research study try to explore the real literacy among young people of today resulting from the influence of the language of new media (especially Facebook and the mobile phone). The impetus for this study comes from frequent complaints that the language of young people has deteriorated due to the negative impact of the language that young people are using in the new media. The authors have done this through an analysis of the way students write in their school assignments and in writings done in their spare time in the new media with regard to (non) existence of the language of new media (such as abbreviations, emoticons and other iconic signs, capitals, dialecticisms, anglicisms, vulgarisms, etc.). In their analysis, the researchers used a computer programme WordSmith Tools 6.0 (Scott 2006). The authors aimed to find out whether or not students in their private language texts use the language of new media (written language with many elements of spoken language and with many abbreviations) and whether or not the students in their school assignments consistently use the standard language without the elements that they normally use in their own language in the new media. The results have shown that secondary school students do consistently write in the standard language in their school assignments, whereas in their leisure activities they use all the elements of the language of new media.

Opis:
The article refers to a language awareness category. It analyses the phenomenon of functioning of metatextual elements in an utterance; specifically the so called metatextual commentaries (which occur on the surface of a text as various interjections, e.g. participal phrases). These formulas serve different functions; in the first place they organize the message and inform about its properties. The author claims that metatextual commentaries – properly interpreted – can be a tool for manifesting individual and social language awareness. The object of direct investigations of the article are metatexts in the colloquial language substance (words and idiomatic phrases). The materials excerpted from radio and television publicistic debates have been taken into account. The aims of the analysis are following 1) to enumerate the most frequent types of metatextual commentaries introducing colloquial lexical material into the language of the media 2) to determine the assessment of the material, expressed in the metatext 3) to confront the collected opinions with the theses presented in contemporary linguistic reflections.

Opis:
This article seeks to answer the question whether features of media language can be discerned in the utterances of the younger generation and, if so, which ones. The oral presentations performed during the secondary school final examinations(obtained from the recordings) were studied. They have never been analysed in this respect before. The presentations have, on the one hand, an official character and, on the other, are spontaneous as they are produced on an ad hoc and continuousbasis, with no possibility of predicting their final shape. First, the article reviews the characterisation of media language by researchers working on the subject in order to establish a group of the most distinctive features that may be present in students’ expressions. An analysis of the material carried out at the cognitive, structural, and linguistic levels is then presented, which has made it possible to discern the presence of certain features of the media variety of language, including superficiality and fragmentation, definiteness, associativeness, and colloquiality. The paper is concluded with a statement that the changes that are taking place in the language (and therefore in the thinking) of the younger generation are becoming a challenge for educational didactics, which should provide contemporary schools with more effective models of language education, taking into account thecurrent expansion of media literacy.
