In the article we describe the methods of teaching language and speech at the Academy of Dramatic Art in Zagreb (Croatia) and at the Academy of Theatre, Radio, Film and Television in Ljubljana (Slovenia). We start by describing how language and speech are taught as individual subjects, we present the trends in teaching language and speech and compare the teaching practices at both academies. The main part of the article intends to show the connection between theory and practice in teaching, which should result in a stronger connection between the scientific and artistic approach in teaching. The goal of comparing the teaching practices at both academies is to show the similarities and differences in teaching and to explicitly present models of teaching and models of assessing the speech of actors, which have proved to be indisputable according to the comparison.

The article entitled “Lingua by Erasmus of Rotterdam – between physiology, philosophy and philology” is devoted to the treatise “Lingua, Sive, De Linguae usu atque abusu Liber utillissimus” which was originally published in 1525, while in an anonymous Old Polish translation it first appeared in 1542. It represents one of the most important voices in then Europe on the role of language in international social communication. In it issues related to the ethics of language, seen from a theological, philosophical and philological perspective, were taken up by the Rotterdammer, using references to medical and natural sciences. The combination of these areas of knowledge has become the subject of in-depth analysis in the article. The term „tongue”, which is equivocal in meaning, is understood in the treatise as the organ for as well as the process of speaking. As a consequence, the „physiology of language” presented in the Lingua, resulting in an extended lesson in anatomy, eventually moves the discourse into the area of reflection on the importance and role of word both in interpersonal association and in the Christian „galaxy” – the humanitas, as a factor for its integration and guarantor of peace.

The series helps develop communication skills, improve speech and text composition, teaches accuracy, offers project work, and more.

The article reviews an educational complex of Russian as a foreign language for beginners, Беседа (author: Anna Pado). In particular, the basic principles of building an educational complex (communicativeness, problematicity, modularity) and its embedded concepts are considered. The discussed educational complex is intended for Poles and is ethno-oriented. It contains language and speech exercises, educational and authentic texts, rich grammatical and lexical material, as well as images.

Lublin is the capital of Polish Speech and Language Therapy (SLT) and this fact has its historical justification as well as support in evaluating both the scientific-research and didactic potential, particularly in connection with the activities of the Department of Logopedics/SLT and Applied Linguistics of the University of Maria Curie-Skłodowska and Polish Logopedic Society. The article discusses the history of the formation of SLT in Poland, strongly associated with Lublin, and also presents Lublin SLT educational traditions and the current teaching and research activities of the Department of Logopedics/SLT and Applied Linguistics of the UMCS.
Lublin jest stolicą polskiej logopedii – fakt ten ma uzasadnienie zarówno historyczne, jak i oparcie w ocenie potencjału naukowo-badawczego i dydaktycznego, związanego przede wszystkim z działalnością Zakładu Logopedii i Językoznawstwa Stosowanego Uniwersytetu Marii Curie-Skłodowskiej oraz Polskiego Towarzystwa Logopedycznego. Artykuł omawia historię powstawania logopedii w Polsce, mocno związaną z Lublinem, a także prezentuje lubelskie tradycje kształcenia logopedów oraz aktualną działalność dydaktyczną i naukową Zakładu Logopedii i Językoznawstwa Stosowanego UMCS.

The article focuses on the theoretical frame of the speech therapy care problem in various mental illnesses. It presents psychiatric disorders particularly associated with speech and communication problems and diversifies the character of speech disorders in psychiatry, indicating that they can oscillate between variously intensified language pathology and different ways of thinking and speaking; as such, they may be permanent or may disappear spontaneously after the episode of the disease is managed. The study defines the relationship between speech and mental disorders, and lists their short- and long-term effects in mental illnesses. Subsequently, it proceeds to circumscribe the place of a speech therapist in an interdisciplinary team, specifies what the logopaedic diagnosis in the process of a mental disorder is, and indicates other roles of a speech therapist in the broadly understood diagnostic and therapeutic process, e.g. the preventive one. The article formulates general goals and guidelines for speech therapy in mental disorders and discusses those aspects of the treatment which are closely related to the patient and the place of speech therapy care. The article concludes that speech pathologists in psychiatry have a chance to consolidate their position. The conditions which have to be met in order to do so are: the profound description and interpretation of speech disorders in psychiatry, the balanced assessment of diagnostic and therapeutic possibilities, and cooperation within an interdisciplinary team.

The main problem that Tomasz Nowak discusses in this article concerns the boundaries of language and speech as set by both social sciences and the humanities and mathematics and natural sciences. His special focus is the fusion of semiotics and biology known as biosemiotics. Nowak argues that bio-communicative skills of human and non-human animals are divided by a gap which is both quantitative and qualitative. However, phylogenetic pre-adaptations and (pre)ontogenetic dispositions of human and non-human animals are, on the one hand, communicatively discreet, and, on the other, cognitively and behaviorally continual. The results of empirical studies cited and examined by Nowak support the idea that there are bio-communicative traits specific to humans.
Основная проблема, которую автор обсуждает в этой статье, – это границы языка и речи, очерченные совместно социально-гуманитарными науками, математикой и естественными науками, особенно – слиянием семиотики и биологии, то есть биосемиотики. В работе формулируется тезис, согласно которому биокоммуникационные способности и навыки человеческих существ и животных находятся на некотором расстоянии друг от друга: как количественно, так и качественно, где филогенетические (пре)адаптации и онтогенетические (пред) расположенности человеческих существ и животных, с одной стороны, коммуникативно – незаметны, с другой стороны, когнитивно и поведенчески – постоянны. Результаты эмпирических исследований позволяют предположить, что существуют специфические особенности человеческой биокоммуникации.
Głównym problemem, który poruszam w niniejszym artykule, są granice języka i mowy, wytyczane wspólnie przez nauki społeczno-humanistyczne i matematyczno-przyrodnicze, zwłaszcza – fuzję semiotyki i biologii, czyli biosemiotyki. W tekście formułuję tezę, zgodnie z którą zdolności i umiejętności biokomunikacyjne zwierząt ludzkich i nie-ludzkich dzieli dystans: zarazem ilościowy i jakościowy, przy czym: (pre)adaptacje filogenetyczne i (pre)dyspozycje ontogenetyczne zwierząt ludzkich i nie-ludzkich są z jednej strony komunikacyjnie – dyskretne, z drugiej strony kognitywnie i behawioralnie – kontynualne. Wyniki badań empirycznych, które przytoczyłem i skomentowałem, pozwalają sądzić, że istnieją cechy biokomunikacyjne swoiście ludzkie.

The subject of this article is the specificity of acquired apraxia of speech and the inclusion and exclusion criteria for diagnosing this type of disorder. The article draws attention to the distinction between apraxia of speech and aphasia or dysarthria with which it very often coexists. It describes the process of diagnosing it, which should include the assessment of the consistency of an utterance, its accuracy and fluency, and therefore the degree of adequacy of repeated statements, differentiation of errors (phonetic, phonological) that accompany it, and speech fluency. The article also discusses the tools for studying apraxia of speech currently existing worldwide, including hierarchical word lists and scales for its assessment.

The integration of all spheres of public life into the educational process requires from a modern educator the ability to rationally choose the means of verbal and non-verbal communication, which leads to understanding, contact, a stable informative position during classes. The article considers the problematic issues of verbal communication, namely: knowledge and use of language norms, the ability to get out of different conversational settings, in accordance with the changes in the Ukrainian spelling in 2019. Modern psychologists have proven the influence of non-verbal communication on the learning process, and therefore, regardless of fashion trends, a teacher must remain a professional in any way, and his (or her) every gesture should add incentives to learn but not distract a learner. The inability to find common ground in the teacher-student-parent triangle is increasingly leading to conflict situations and therefore, having experienced some social constraints during quarantine, pandemic, distance education, we must return to social interaction in all possible ways including the use of non-verbal means of communication which regardless of our wishes, give all aspects of the behavioral norm, character, psychological characteristics of a speaker. The inability to speak, express thoughts and ideas leads not only to misunderstandings but also to conflicts between the parties. There are many factors that affect the understanding process. The use of non-verbal forms of communication is perceived at a different but no less effective level of understanding information which is an indispensable method of work in the educational process, when you need to attract maximum effort for quality transferperception-assimilation of knowledge by students.
Інтеграція всіх сфер суспільного життя в освітній процес вимагає від сучасного педагогічного працівника вміння раціонального добору засобів вербального та невербального спілкування, що зумовлює порозуміння, контакт, стійку інформативну позицію під час навчальних занять. У статті розглянуто проблемні питання вербального спілкування, а саме: знання й використання мовних норм, можливості виходу з різних мовленнєвих ситуацій, відповідно до змін Українського правопису 2019 року. Сучасними психологами доведений вплив невербальних засобів спілкування на процес засвоєння навчального матеріалу, а тому, незалежно від модних тенденцій, викладач має залишатись викладачем у всьому, і кожний його жест має додавати стимулу для навчання, але аж ніяк не відволікати здобувача освіти. Невміння знайти порозуміння у трикутнику педагог-учень-батьки усе частіше призводить до конфліктних ситуацій, а тому, переживши певне соціальне обмеження під час умов карантину, панування пандемії, дистанційної освіти, маємо повертатись до соціальної взаємодії усіма можливими способами, у тому числі враховуючи використання невербальних засобів комунікації, які, незалежно від наших побажань, видаюсь усі аспекти поведінкової норми, характеру, психологічних особливостей мовця. Невміння говорити, виражати думки та ідеї призводить не лише до непорозуміння, але й до конфліктів між сторонами спілкування. Існує багато чинників, які впливають на процес порозуміння. Використання невербальних форм спілкування, сприймається на іншому, але не менш дієвому рівні розуміння інформації, що є незамінним методом роботи в освітньому процесі, коли потрібно залучити максимум зусиль для якісної передачі-сприйняття-засвоєння знань здобувачами освіти.

Adapting foreign language teaching to the requirements of studentswith special educational needs requires prior diagnosis of the developmental potential of the pupils concerned. Because of the educational and rehabilitative character of foreign language learning in studentswith language and speech deficiencies, the diagnosis addresses the possibilities of using foreign language learning in developing general and linguistic competencies in both languages (native and foreign). The article presents the aims of diagnosing linguistic communicative competencies in the context of foreign language teaching. The differences between speech diagnosis and diagnosis performed for the needs of foreign language teaching are discussed, based on cases of pupils with deficiencies in their native language (Polish). The evaluation of the students’ competencies involved reformulation as an instrument of linguistic diagnosis; learning strategies were also considered in the assessment.

Cochlear implants (CI) are surgically implanted electronic devices that enable individuals who are profoundly deaf to hear. It should be pointed out that a surgically implanted device does not provide a sense of sound totally . It does allow the deaf to recognize sounds and help to understand speech. However, after placing a cochlear implant the quality of sound is different from natural hearing and takes time to learn and recognize the memory signs. The article consists of preliminary diagnosis and stages of patient rehabilitation before and after placing CI.

Artykuł podejmuje zagadnienie postępowania logopedycznego w przypadku dzieci w wieku przedszkolnym i wczesnoszkolnym, u których występuje niewielkie nasilenie niepłynności mówienia. Jest to ważny problem w praktyce logopedycznej, ponieważ niepłynność mówienia występuje w okresie rozwoju mowy u 5% dzieci. Jąkanie dotyczy tylko 1% i tylko w przypadku dzieci jąkających się napotykamy jasno określone procedury terapii. Praca logopedy z dziećmi z mniej nasiloną niepłynnością, odróżnienie niepłynności rozwojowej od patologicznej oraz odpowiednie działania terapeutyczne i profilaktyczne stają się zasadniczą kwestią terapii. W artykule omówiono zagadnienia podłoża niepłynności u dzieci, jej diagnozy oraz dalszych działań terapeutyczno-profilaktycznych.
The article addresses the issue of speech-language therapy in the case of preschool and early school age children who have a slight severity of disfluency. This is an important problem in speech-language therapy practice, because disfluency of speech occurs in the period of speech development in 5% of children. Stuttering only affects 1% and only stuttering children encounter clearly defined therapy procedures. The work of a speech-language therapist with children with less severe disfluency, distinguishing between developmental and pathological disfluency, as well as appropriate therapeutic and preventive procedures become fundamental issue. The article discusses in turn the issues of the basis of children’s disfluency, its diagnosis and further therapeutic and preventive procedures.
