Święty George Preca to maltański ksiądz, który żył w latach 1880-1962, a kanonizowany został w 2007 r. Ks. Preca poświęcił się nauczaniu katechizmu na Malcie. Mając świadomość, że nie zdoła przeprowadzić tego sam, rozpoczął projekt nauczania katechizmu ze świeckimi. Przed Soborem Watykańskim II nie była to sprawa prosta. Mimo wszystko ks. Preca zdołał pokonać wszelkie przeszkody i znacznie uprzywilejować świeckich. Sobór Watykański II miał to zrobić kilka lat po jego śmierci. Niniejszy artykuł jest próbą pokazania, w jaki sposób ks. Preca został pionierem apostolstwa świeckich − nie tylko uznał prawo świeckich do apostolstwa, ale także zjednoczył ich jako grupę do perspektywicznego apostolatu, w posłuszeństwie hierarchii i z adekwatną do niego formacją.
St George Preca, a Maltese priest who lived between 1880 and 1962, was canonised in 2007. Preca dedicated himself to the teaching of the catechism in Malta. Being aware that he could not undertake this endeavour all by himself, he embarked on the project of teaching the catechism with lay people. This was not a simple task prior to Vatican Council II. Notwithstanding this, George Preca was able to overcome all obstacles and give lay people the front positions. This was something that Vatican Council II was to do some years after Preca's death. This paper seeks to show how Preca was a pioneer in the apostolate of the laity. This will be done by showing how Preca not only recognised the laity's right to the apostolate, but how he united them as a group for a far-reaching apostolate, which while remaining obedient to the hierarchy, had a very deep impact because they had an adequate formation for the apostolate.

Stolica Apostolska postrzega środowisko dyplomatów jako partnera w wysiłkach na rzecz budowania wspólnoty międzynarodowej. Dyplomaci reprezentują przede wszystkim interesy własnych państw i ich rządów, są oni jednak świadomi, że we współczesnym, zglobalizowanym świecie powodzenie polityczne, gospodarcze i kulturalne jest możliwe jedynie dzięki współpracy między krajami i narodami. Nauczanie Kościoła współczesnego, inspirowane konstytucją Gaudium et spes, wskazuje na trojakie zadania apostolskie dyplomatów: dotyczą one osoby ludzkiej, społeczności własnego kraju i narodu oraz wspólnoty międzynarodowej. W realizacji zadań apostolskich Kościół przedkłada dyplomatom zasady swej nauki społecznej. Są to: zasada dobra wspólnego, sprawiedliwości i solidarności. Mają one zastosowanie do wszystkich płaszczyzn apostolskiego zaangażowania dyplomatów.
The Apostolic See perceives diplomats as partners in the common efforts to build the international community. Diplomats represent, first and foremost, the interests of their own countries and of their governments, however, they are aware that in the modern globalized world successful politics, economy and culture require constant cooperation between countries and nations. The teaching of the contemporary Church, inspired by the Constitution Gaudium et spes, indicates three major apostolic responsibilities of diplomats: they concern the human person, the community of their own country and nation as well as the international community. The Church introduces the rules of her social science to diplomats to help them implement her apostolic obligations. These rules include: the rule of the common wealth, of fair play and of solidarity. They are effective at all levels of the apostolic activity of the environment of diplomats.

The word “culture” refers to everything, “whereby man develops and perfects his many bodily and spiritual qualities; he strives by his knowledge and his labour, to bring the world itself under his control. He renders social life more human both in the family and the civic community, through improvement of customs and institutions. Throughout the course of time he expresses, communicates and conserves in his works, great spiritual experiences and desires, that they might be of advantage to the progress of many, even of the whole human family” (Gaudium et spes No. 53). The Gospel, which assumes the shape of a culture from the beginning, wants to penetrate the culture of today as well. By its nature, it creates such a culture that helps people to reach their full personal development and thus enables them to live peacefully in the community. In the evangelization of cultures, the laity plays a special role. The Church calls upon Catholics “to be present, as signs of courage and intellectual creativity, in the privileged places of culture, that is, the world of education-school and university-in places of scientific and technological research, the areas of artistic creativity and work in the humanities” (Christifideles laici No. 44). It depends on their involvement in the proclamation of Christ and his message of salvation whether people are aware of their dignity and as free beings create spaces where any human person can find the true meaning of life. The Christian laity should be present on “the contemporary Aeropagus” in order to show the people the Divine truth, goodness and beauty which were revealed in the Savior Christ Jesus in full glory. The lay faithful have the task to put into practice their personal charisma and to work in union with the Pastors of the Church.

The article describes the spirituality of lay people of the third millennium. It involves the participation of Christians in the triple dignity and mission of Christ. New trends in the 21st century spirituality have been briefly discussed. They have been inspired by the Second Vatican Council. The broader context of the article was the universal call to holiness, which is a basis of Christian spirituality, and is the consequence of receiving baptism. As it is known, all people are called to holiness - not just consecrated persons but also lay people. One and only holiness is expressed in different ways in individuals who strive for perfect love in their chosen condition. The lay faithful pursue their vocation to holiness, living in the world, and give an example of the unity of life and of faith. The article deals with the spirituality of the third millennium: the cultural and social and spiritual-religious trends, the baptismal spirituality of the laity, and the universal vocation to holiness in response to the call of the Second Vatican Council to promote Christianity in the dignity and mission of Christ (priestly, prophetic and royal).

Opis:
The activity of the laity in aid of or substitution for the ministry of the clergy has become increasingly common in the Church. Citing various factual explanations, this article shows the growth of lay ministry from the 1950’s up until today. The doctrinal and normative determinations which the Hierarchy has made, since 1983, have established more precise and effective guidelines for these ministerial tasks. The author summarizes the most important normative documents on this subject, in particular, the Instr. Ecclesiae de mysterio. This text raises a variety of practical issues, including the duty of giving the ministerial works of the laity an adequate financial remuneration. Finally, it offers guidelines for the effective development of lay collaboration in the pastoral ministry.

The subject of this article is the call of lay people to the mystical life. The topic under consideration indicates two poles, around which the main reflection revolves: the mystic and the lay state of life. The call of lay people to mysticism is not just a hypothesis, but a real experience, researched and decribed by theologians. So reflecting on the call to the mystic life of lay people is not so much a matter of ‘whether’, but of ‘how’. In the light of the above, four issues are fundamental: the impossibility to provoke the mystical experience, its dependence on the spirituality of the baptism, the relation of contemplation to action and the relation to the world. It occurs however, that every Christian, together with God’s life of grace bestowed in baptism, receives the basis for the mystical life. Neither an active life in the world, nor work or marriage, hinders the development of this gift.

In the first centuries of Christianity a meeting of small communities was considered as the way of resolving conflicts, making important decisions, and seeking God’s will for the community. With the increasing number of believers followed necessary decentralization of ecclesiastical structures so that dioceses could decide on administrative and organizational matters. Clergy assemblies have served these issues and we can consider them today as prefiguration of diocesan synods. Most authors believe that the first diocesan synod assembly took place in France in Auxerre in A.D 578. Over the centuries, the institution of diocesan synod experienced both the flourish moments, as well as the crises. For its definitive fixation in the canonical doctrine should be considered the treaty of Pope Benedict XIV De Synodo Dioecesana published in 1748. The value of the diocesan synod as a legal institution has been confirmed by the Second Vatican Council, which in the Decree Christus Dominus has expressed the wish of synodal fathers that the institution will take on a new life and serve the Church in modern times. The current legislation concerning the diocesan synod is contained in the Code of Canon Law (c.  460-468), as well as in the Instruction of the diocesan synods issued in 1997 by two Vatican congregations. In Poland since the promulgation of the Code in 1983, until the year 2012 31 diocesan synods were held. Some of them took place in the days of communism, the other in a free Poland, which also had an impact on their course. In addition to many historical, ecclesial and pastoral circumstances particularly important was the influence of St. John Paul II,who personally participated in the opening or closing of some diocesan synods.

Religious freedom as it was at the end of the USSR has enabled the revival of the Roman Catholic Church. In addition to the clergy, useful help in this process is played by lay people, coming in to the post-Soviet states, among others, from Poland. The article contains an analysis of surveys conducted among representatives of Polish laity who after 1989 came in to support priests in pastoral work in parishes located just behind the eastern border of the Republic of Poland.

The homily is an act of communication that consists of three elements: the preacher, the listener, and the homily. The purpose of homilies is to update the message of salvation and encourage the faithful to live the gospel. The homily as communication should take place in a peaceful environment. If this is not the case, preaching and listening may result in suffering. The paper mentions several reasons why this happens. The preacher may suffer from a new cultural and religious circumstance, authority issues, impaired spirituality, personal difficulties, loss of enthusiasm and fear or excessive stage fright. For listeners, the torment of listening may be caused by unfulfilled expectations, a bad relationship with the preacher, or homilies that lack simplicity, are full of abstract sentences, are long or unprepared.
Homilia jest aktem komunikacji, na który składają się trzy elementy: kaznodzieja, słuchacz i homilia. Celem homilii jest aktualizacja orędzia o zbawieniu i zachęcenie wiernych do życia według Ewangelii. Homilia jako akt komunikacji powinna odbywać się w spokojnej atmosferze. Jeśli tak nie jest, głoszenie i słuchanie może prowadzić do cierpienia. W artykule wymieniono kilka powodów, dla których tak się dzieje. Kaznodzieja może cierpieć z powodu nowych okoliczności kulturowych i religijnych, problemów z autorytetem, osłabionej duchowości, trudności osobistych, utraty entuzjazmu i strachu lub nadmiernej tremy. Dla słuchaczy męka słuchania może być spowodowana niespełnionymi oczekiwaniami, złymi relacjami z kaznodzieją, homiliami, które nie są proste, są pełne abstrakcyjnych zdań, są długie lub nieprzygotowane.
