Opis:
Distribution of Dendrobaena alpina covers the mountainous region of central Europe, where it has a high dominance and frequency index. This work describes data from field studies conducted over two annual cycles in the Bieszczady National Park (BNP), Poland, in different types of beech forest. Densities of this species ranged from 47–231 g·m -2 with associated biomasses of 19–90 g·m -2. Most (66%) were recovered from less than 0.1 m soil depth with a further 28% from up to 0.2 m. Further, the animals were collected alive from Lutowiska, close to the BNP to obtain baseline data on the life history of D. alpina. Mature individuals were kept in isolation and cocoon production monitored on a 2 monthly basis. Immature individuals were kept until they reached maturity, when they were paired, with combined output of cocoons regularly monitored. Cocoons were collected, had their masses determined and were incubated. Hatchability was recorded, as was estimated duration of incubation and growth to maturity. Field-collected adults had a mean mass of 1.4 g and at 15 ºC, these produced an average of 1.83 cocoons·worm -1·month -1. Zero cocoons were produced by further specimens, collected as immature, grown to maturity and maintained in isolation. Recently-matured, paired D. alpina produced an average of 1.65 cocoons·worm -1·month -3. Cocoons had a mean mass of 19 mg. At 15 ºC, cocoons produced by recently matured adults hatched after 80 days (82% viable), but after 2 months the majority of cocoons failed to hatch. Hatchling growth from an average of 18 mg to maturity required 7–11 months in the given substrate.

Opis:
Trace elements incorporated into foraminiferal test carbonate are commonly used as palaeoproxies. For instance, benthic and planktonic Mg/Ca ratios are frequently used for reconstructing bottom and sea surface temperature (SST) changes, respectively. However, over the past few decades it has been shown that the incorporation of Mg2+ into foraminiferal calcite is controlled by more than one environmental parameter, with significant variations of their sensitivities between culture and field-based studies. Opinions differ as to whether the laboratory conditions during culturing experiments or the natural conditions during field sampling (core-tops, sediment traps and plankton tows) better trace the wealth of information with improved accuracy. Laboratory culture experiments that isolate the effects of individual environmental parameters have been used to identify secondary controls on Mg uptake into planktonic foraminifer tests. However, field-based data (core-top sediments and plankton tows) from high salinity super-saturated settings have shown the additional presence of high-Mg inorganic precipitates leading to significant salinity (S) biases on the Mg/Ca palaeothermometer. Testing such synergistic effects between temperature, salinity and calcite saturation state would require an experimental design where all these parameters are varied systematically, but such experiments have yet to be conducted. Since the synergistic effects cannot presently be ruled out through culturing experiments, it is imperative to initially confirm the amplitude and geographic distribution of the detectable diagenetic precipitations (Scanning Electron Microscopy analysis) through field-based work, further quantify their importance (discrimination of distinct diagenetic stages and quantification of the diagenetic imprint) and finally estimate its potential effect on Mg/Ca-T calibration (e.g., overgrowth-corrected species-specific calibration equations). The example of the marginal high-salinity settings, among others, clearly highlights that the optimal use of Mg/Ca as a palaeotemperature proxy urgently requires the complementarity of both culture- and field-based data. To this end, we here present advantages and disadvantages to each approach. These insights reinforce the potential of the combined use of culture- and field-based foraminiferal studies, where possible, in order to minimize the observed inconsistencies, and to advance Mg/Ca thermometry by both providing a framework for better understanding the nature of Mg/Ca dependence on seawater temperature, and the effects of complicating factors.

Opis:
Quantitative expressions are presented to describe the effects of temperature and food concentration on stage duration and growth rate of Temora longicornis for each of the model stage groups (N1–N6 – naupliar stages, C1, C2, C3, C4, C5 –the five copepodid stages). The calculations were made on the basis of experimental data from the literature for T. longicornis from the south-eastern and the southern North Sea. Relationships were obtained between the growth parameters and temperature for the 5–10◦C temperature range and food concentrations from 25 mgC m−3 to excess. Also computed was the total mean development time as a function of the above-mentioned parameters, temperature and food availability. The simulations computed here are similar to the experimental results. The growth rates for successive stages were obtained according to the correction of the ‘Moult Rate’ method, which allows the use of mean weights and stage durations. The calculations also suggest that three complete generations of T. longicornis from the Gdańsk Deep (the southern Baltic Sea) can develop during a single year.

Opis:
The influence of addition of MgS04-7H20 on biomass yield of Saccharomyces cerevisiae was evaluated in this study. Capacities of binding magnesium ions by S. cerevisiae yeast during cultivation on the YPG-medium (laboratory) and in the industrial scale were analyzed. It was stated that in the industrial conditions the higher amount of magnesium in the respective propagation is required. In the laboratory conditions the yield of yeast cultivated on the experimental media enriched with different amount (0,05, 0,3 and 0,5 g ·dm-3) of magnesium ions was also significantly higher than the yield from YPD - control medium. Growing concentration of magnesium ions in the experimental media caused the increasing of magnesium content in the yeast biomass.

Opis:
The article is dedicated to answering the question of whether school can be thought of as a laboratory of community. The analysis focuses on the images of various relations functioning in the school environment which are present in literature of different epochs. Indicated are these directions in educational practice which allow the development of the culture of coexistence that prevents the phenomena of exclusion or ostracism. The inspiration for such an approach was provided by the concept of future-oriented humanities, which Ewa Domańska called prefigurative. According to this idea, the objective of humanities is to imagine tomorrow and shape its possible scenarios. The anthropological approach made it possible to combine the literary and pedagogical perspectives. The practice of eutorics (a term introduced by Dorota Korwin-Piotrowska, who also described this field of rhetoric) was considered the basis for thinking about school as a laboratory of community.

Opis:
The article presents the Czech laboratory-theatre Farma v jeskyni (Farm in the Cave) and its last performance, entitled The Theatre. It simultaneously addresses the anthropological inspirations influencing the form and subject of the performance: particularly two expeditions to Brazil during which the group came in contact with Afro-Brazilian culture, its theatrical forms, dance and musical motifs. Through a description of certain scenes of the play, the set design, the props and the stage action, the author shows these inspirations within the closed material of the artistic work. She considers the transposed significance of the utilised motifs, the function of the theatre in theatre, the role of the spectator and the actor-slave parallel.
