Opis:
The aim of the research was to assess influence of a 90-minute specialist fencing training on selected features of the spine and pelvis under a vertical load in a group of young competitors. The research was carried out in 2015 among 23 fencers (mean ± SD, age: 16 ±1.20 years; body height: 168.4 ±4.68 cm; body weight: 54.7 ±8.26 kg). The method involved measurement of thirty features, describing spatially pelvis and physiological spinal curvature under a vertical load, constituting 1/3 of the body weight before and after specialist training. Statistically significant disturbances in vertically overstretched posture occurred after the training among examined boys within the following features: increase in length of left side scoliosis, progression of lumbar lordosis and lumbosacral spine, increase of the trunk extension angle and shoulder asymmetry. Among examined girls statistically significant changes occurred only within pelvis area: increase of left pelvic tilt in the coronal plane, decrease of right pelvic tilt in the horizontal plane. Adjustment in deficiencies within hip joints movement, increase pelvis and lower limbs muscle strength in girls’ training is necessary. What is recommended for all competitors is prophylaxis of the spinal pain syndrome and expanding endurance shaping exercises during a training unit.

Opis:
Objectives This paper evaluates the efficacy of using the McKenzie and Vojta methods for patients with low back pain and the use of the DIERS Formetric 4D system as an objective diagnostic tool. Material and Methods The study enrolled 28 patients aged 15–17 years old. The patients were hospitalized at the Department of Orthopedics and Traumatology of the Świętokrzyskie Center for Pediatrics in Kielce with a diagnosis of back pain associated with a discopathy. The patients were rehabilitated according to the McKenzie and Vojta methods. Assessment by means of the DIERS Formetric system had taken place before the first therapy session and on the day that pain was eliminated to evaluate trunk inclination, angle of thoracic kyphosis, angle of lumbar lordosis, lateral deviation, trunk torsion, surface rotation and pelvic obliquity. Pain intensity and change in pain intensity over time were assessed by means of a numerical rating scale. Results Pain intensity was reduced to 0 over 3–12 days. The study participants demonstrated reduction in anterior trunk inclination of the mean value at 1.83°. The angle of thoracic kyphosis was also reduced by 7.95°. The angle of lordosis increased by 7.6°. The lateral spinal curvature was reduced by 8.92 mm. There was a reduction of 4.64° in trunk torsion. Surface rotation was reduced by 1.61° and pelvic obliquity was reduced by 3.78°. Conclusions In discopathic patients, postural parameters comprising trunk inclination, angle of thoracic kyphosis, angle of lumbar lordosis, lateral deviation, trunk torsion, vertebral rotation and pelvic obliquity fail to reach Hartzmann’s physiological reference ranges. A therapeutic intervention based on the Vojta and McKenzie methods may normalize the posture to physiological reference ranges and is effective in the treatment of patients with back pain. The DIERS system is an objective tool for tracing the effects of therapy in patients with back pain. Int J Occup Med Environ Health. 2019;32(1):33–41

Opis:
Specific loads on the spine and the very young age at which acrobatic gymnastics training is undertaken require monitoring the shape of the spine curvatures in gymnasts to detect possible postural abnormalities. The aim of this descriptive study was to assess and compare the shape of the spine in the sagittal plane in acrobatic gymnasts of both sexes and their associations with demographic and somatic variables. The study group included 159 acrobatic gymnasts aged 12-19 (106 females and 53 males) from 16 European countries. The study was designed as a survey and measurements of somatic variables and the angles of inclination (using the Baseline Bubble inclinometer) at four topographic points of the spine: S1, L5/S1, Th12/L1, C7/Th1. Based on the angles of spinal inclination, the sizes of the sacral slope (SS), lumbar lordosis (LL), and thoracic kyphosis (TK) were calculated. Body posture was assessed based on Wolański’s modified typology. The angles of SS and LL were significantly higher in females, and TK did not differ between sexes. Training experience positively correlated only with the size of the SS in both sexes. Age and somatic variables were significantly correlated with the size of the sagittal curvatures, mainly in females. The majority of gymnasts had a normal angle of SS and TK and a flattened LL. The equivalent and lordotic types of body posture were more frequent in females, and the kyphotic type in males. The incorrect body posture was noted in 19.8% of females and 43.4% of males. We concluded that acrobatic gymnasts are not at risk of increasing the size of spinal curvatures in the sagittal plane, but males show a tendency toward flattened LL and kyphotic type of body posture.

Opis:
A pelvic tilt may lead to body posture disturbances. The aim of the study was to determine relationships between the anterior pelvic tilt angle and the curvature and mobility of lumbar lordosis and thoracic kyphosis. Methods: The angles of anterior pelvic tilt, lumbar lordosis, thoracic kyphosis and spinal elongation were measured with the use of Posturometr-S device. The posturometric measurements were carried out with the pointing stick of the device moving along spinous processes (from C7 to L5) and marking the selected anthropometric points. Results: In the studied group of boys, the angles in a free-standing position and the thoracic kyphosis angle during elongation were significantly greater than the corresponding lordosis angles. In all measured variables the range of measured angles was characteristically wide. The greatest individual differences were found in the lumbar lordosis angles. All the boys featured a significant increase in body height during linear elongation. The measurements of angles at baseline and during elongations of lumbar lordosis and thoracic kyphosis in a standing position in the entire study group revealed that the anterior pelvic tilt had no significant impact on lumbar lordosis in a free-standing posture and its elongation. In the case of thoracic kyphosis, the correlation was statistically significant, although it was not strong. Conclusions: The anterior pelvic tilt angle is correlated with the subject’s age, body mass, body height and the size of thoracic kyphosis.

Opis:
The aim of the study was to determine the size of kyphosis and lumbar lordosis in women and men aged 19-23 with varied body structures. The research, conducted in the academic year of 2017/2018, included 210 students from the University of Physical Education in Biala Podlaska. The Diers formetric III 4D device was used to assess their body postures. Anterior-posterior curvatures of the spine as well as pelvic and torso positions in the sagittal plane were characterized. Body height and weight measurements were used to calculate BMI. The data were analyzed using basic statistical characteristics, Student's t-test, and Pearson's linear correlation coefficient. The participants mostly demonstrated a proper body structure. Slim body build was more common among women, while overweight was prevalent among men. The mean values of thoracic kyphosis and lumbar lordosis angles as well as pelvic angles were higher in women. In turn, the mean values of the trunk inclination amplitude in a standing position was higher in men. The flattening of thoracic kyphosis and the deepening of two anterior-posterior cu-rvatures of the spine were more common in women than in men. The proper body posture prevailed in male students. In the case of female students, the proper posture, the concave back, and the round concave back occurred equally often. Significant intersexual differences were discovered in the size of curvatures of the spine in groups with different BMI values.
Celem pracy było określenie wielkości kifozy i lordozy lędźwiowej kobiet i mężczyzn w wieku 19-23 lata o zróżnicowanej budowie ciała. Badaniami, prowadzonymi w roku akademickim 2017/2018 objęto 210 studentów Filii AWF w Białej Podlaskiej. W ocenie postawy ciała wykorzystano urządzenie Diers formetric III 4D. Scharakteryzowano wielkość przednio-tylnych krzywizn kręgosłupa, ustawienie miednicy oraz pochylenie tułowia w płaszczyźnie strzałkowej. Pomiary wysokości i masy ciała posłużyły do obliczenia BMI. W opracowaniu danych wykorzystano podstawowe charakterystyki statystyczne, test t-Studenta oraz współczynnik korelacji liniowej Pearsona. Wśród badanych dominowała prawidłowa budowa ciała, smukła budowa częściej występowało wśród kobiet, a nadwaga wśród mężczyzn. Średnie wartości kąta kifozy piersiowej i lordozy lędźwiowej oraz kąta nachylenia miednicy były większe u kobiet. Natomiast przeciętna wartość amplitudy nachylenia tułowia w staniu podczas badań była większa u mężczyzn. U kobiet częściej niż u mężczyzn stwierdzano spłaszczenie kifozy piersiowej oraz pogłębienie obu badanych przednio-tylnych krzywizn kręgosłupa. U studentów dominowała postawa prawidłowa, a u studentek równie często występowała postawa prawidłowa, plecy wklęsłe i okrągło-wklęsłe. Stwierdzono istotne różnice międzypłciowe w zakresie wielkości krzywizn kręgosłupa w grupach o zróżnicowanej wartości BMI.
