    Przedmiotem artykułu jest kultura wsi i sposoby jej interpretacji dominujące w okresie ostatnich stu lat. Analizuję je z perspektywy socjologii wsi, dla której zawsze stanowiła zasadniczą część przedmiotu badań. Na podstawie dwóch publikacji książkowych z lat 2017–2019, podejmuję próbę dookreślenia różnic między trzema dominującymi sposo- bami dyskursu o kulturze wsi. Następnie poddaję krytycznej analizie problem wartości kultury wsi, dość powszechnie, ale nie zawsze zasadnie, uznawanych za szczególnie cenne i istotnie wpływające na kształt kultury narodowej.

    Fotografie Jakuba Smolskiego stanowią ważną dokumentację obyczajowości i zwyczajów białoruskiej mniejszości na Podlasiu z okresu międzywojennego. Większość fotografii Smolski wykonał w rodzinnej Łuce. Artykuł przybliża obraz chłopskiego uniwersum nadnarwiańskich, prawosławnych wsi. Fotograf z Łuki wykonywał zdjęcia, które pokazywały prywatny świat chłopów. To, co zostało utrwalone na fotografiach, świadczy o sile obrzędów przejścia, które miały bardzo duże znaczenie w społeczności chłopskiej, ponieważ utrwalały więzi rodzinne i sąsiedzkie. Wyrażały etapy życia człowieka w określonym porządku w zamkniętym cyklu narodzin, ślubów i pogrzebów. Zebrane zdjęcia są także ważnym świadectwem mikrohistorii Białorusinów Podlasia. Fotografie mają wielką wartość ze względów historycznych, kulturowych i społecznych. Mogą mieć duże znaczenie w popularyzacji kultury białoruskiej na Podlasiu jako przykładu jej siły i wartości, a także w zachęcaniu do powrotu do korzeni.
    The photographs of Jakub Smolski constitute important documentation of the customs and habits of the Belarusian minority in Podlasie in the interwar period. Most of the photos were taken by Smolski in his home village of Łuka. The article presents the image of the peasant world of the Narew, Orthodox villages. A photographer from Łuka took pictures that showed the private world of the peasants. What was captured in the photographs proves the strength of the rites of passage, which were of great importance in the peasant community as they strengthened family and neighborhood ties. They expressed the stages of a person’s life in a specific order in a closed cycle of births, weddings and funerals. The collected photos are also an important testimony to the micro-history of the Belarusians of Podlasie. Photographs are of great value for historical, cultural and social reasons. They can be of great importance in popularizing Belarusian culture in Podlasie as an example of its strength and values, as well as in encouraging a return to its roots.

    Celem głównym niniejszego artykułu jest kulturoznawcza analiza strategii malarskiej Aleksieja Wenecjanowa w odniesieniu do zagadnienia tematu chłopskiego w malarstwie. Problematyka ta wiąże się z kolei z określonym sposobem posługiwania się klasycyzmem. Klasycyzm interpretowany jest tutaj nie tylko jako pewien nurt stylistyczny bądź epoka w dziejach sztuki, lecz również jako zestaw reguł i wartości, które przynależą do wyposażenia umysłowego działającego artysty. Celem pobocznym jest wskazanie na inne przykłady analogicznych strategii zaczerpniętych z dziejów europejskiej kultury artystycznej, wskazujących na istnienie pewnej ciągłości intelektualnej w historii kultury europejskiej.
    The main goal of this article is a cultural analysis of the artistic strategy used by Alexey Venetsianov in connection to the peasant theme in painting. These issues, in turn, are related to a specific way of using classicism. Classicism is interpreted here not only as a stylistic trend or an epoch in the history of art, but also as a certain set of rules and values that belong to the mental equipment of an artist in action. The secondary aim is to identify other examples of similar strategies drawn from the history of European artistic culture, showing the existence of a certain intellectual continuity in the history of European culture.

    W artykule podjęto próbę prezentacji magazynu „Kultura Wsi. Ludzie. Wydarzenia. Przemiany” i przyporządkowania go do określonego typu prasy. Przeanalizowano zawartość periodyku pod kątem założonych przez redakcję funkcji. W badaniach dążono również do uchwycenia wizerunku współczesnej wsi polskiej, wyłaniającego się z tekstów zamieszczonych na łamach pisma. Starano się także odpowiedzieć na pytanie dotyczące przyczyn upadku tytułu.
    The paper attempts to present the magazine „Kultura Wsi. Ludzie. Wydarzenia. Przemiany” and its assignment to a specific type of press. The content of the journal was analyzed in terms of the functions assumed by the editors. The research also sought to capture the image of the modern Polish village, appearing from the texts in the magazine. Attempts were also made to answer the question about the reasons for the fall of the title.

    Opis:
    The article offers a reflection on the possible causes of a disregarding attitude to the value of landscape and spatial order in contemporary Poland. Neglecting aesthetic values, usually interpreted as an effect of the communist past, is considered in the paper as a symptom of a specific spatial culture correlated with the social and cultural grounds of the present Polish society. Although it is possible to point out several viable determinants of the present landscape quality in Poland, they all seem to have the same origin. To fea- ture it, the author refers to P. Bourdieu’s habitus concept as well as to the socio-historical perspective in which the Polish society was shaped (peasant culture). The problem of the lack of adequate aesthetic education also stems from the same cultural context. The enhancement of pro-landscape thinking requires resolute actions in many fields. Nonetheless, a proper understanding of the aesthetic education seems to be crucial here.
    Artykuł poświęcony jest przyczynom lekceważącego stosunku do krajobrazu i ładu przestrzennego we współczesnej Polsce. Zaniedbywanie wartości estetycznych, zwykle interpretowane jako pokłosie komunistycznej przeszłości, interpretowane jest tu jako przejaw specyficznej kultury przestrzennej  ukształtowanej w lokalnym kontekście kulturowym. Wiele bezpośrednich uwarunkowań estetycznej kondycji polskiego krajobrazu wyrasta ze wspólnego socjo-kulturowego podłoża. Do jego rekonstrukcji i opisu wykorzystano koncepcję habitusu P. Bourdieu oraz perspektywę historyczną (kultura chłopska), w której kształtowało się polskie społeczeństwo. Wzmocnienie myślenia pro-krajobrazowego wymaga zdecydowanych działań w wielu dziedzinach, jednak właściwie rozumiana edukacja estetyczna (o której mowa w końcowej części artykułu) jest tutaj kwestią kluczową.

    Peasant photography is an incredibly interesting cultural phenomenon. Until the photograph appeared in the space of the countryside, spoken word had been the major form of expression used by peasants to talk about themselves and the world. It is a type of photography created for the needs of peasants on their own initiative. Photos represent a selected moment in a passage rite of a family, portraying its members and acquaintances. They constitute an important element in shaping the image of the peasant. Therefore the initiative of the historian Joanna Sapieżyńska, who collected and prepared photographs of the inhabitants of her native village in the album “Witowo” is very valuable. The collected photographs of the inhabitants of Witowo show images of peasant life over 50 years. The photos available in the form of album play an important role in the reconstruction of village’s microhistory. They are a testimony to the changes and shaping of the identity of Podlasie Belarusians. Peasant photography from Witowo shows the richness of peasant Belarusian culture. It should be noted that there are noticeable differences between the photographs created in Podlasie and photos from other regions of Poland. Photographs collected by J. Sapieżyńska are of great value for historical, cultural and social reasons. They can be of great importance in popularizing Belarusian culture in Podlasie as an example of its strength and values, as well as in encouraging a return to the roots.

    Artykuł powstał w związku z przygotowywaną w Bibliotece Jagiellońskiej wystawą Oblicza samotności w kulturze. Autor koncentruje się na roli jaką odgrywali ludzie samotni (bezżenni i niezamężne) w „chłopskiej kulturze tradycyjnej”. Bazuje przede wszystkim na materiałach etnograficznych. We wstępie artykułu nakreślona zostaje ogólnikowo współczesna kultura ludzi samotnych. Zasadniczy wywód zaczyna się od ukazania statusu ludzi samotnych w kulturze ludowej. Dalej autor koncentruje się na stygmatyzującej samotnych obrzędowości (głównie z przełomu zapustów i Wielkiego Postu). Następnie przedstawia dwa charakterystyczne typy samotników: artystów ludowych i pustelników. Całość wieńczy zestawieniem dawnej formacji kulturowej z dzisiejszą kształtującą się kulturą singli.
    The paper was written in connection with the exhibition Faces of Loneliness in Culture held in the Jagiellonian Library. The author discusses the role of loners (bachelors and maidens) in the traditional peasant culture, basing primarily on ethnographic materials. In the introduction, the contemporary culture of loners is outlined in general terms. The main argument begins by showing the status of lone people in the folk culture. The author concentrates next on rites stigmatizing loners (performed mainly at the turn of Shrovetide and Lent), presenting also two particular types of loners, folk artists and hermits, and concluding with comparison of the historical cultural formation with today’s culture of singles.

    Opis:
    Niegowić village in Lesser Poland – existing from Middle Ages, with rich history, belonged to well-known lines: Ligęzas, Niewiarowskis, Lubowieckis, and in 19th, to Boene and Włodkowie. The manor, erected in the 1st half of the 18th century, was rebuilt in mid-19th century. In 1913, a concept was formulated of demolition of the manor and construction of a new, bigger, and more splendid building in its place. In 1913, the then owner of the property Jan Zdzisław Włodek organised and financed the competition for construction of the new manor. The completion – in line with the results of the competition, was interrupted by the outbreak of the World War I. The client returned to the idea 10 years after its ending, and did not take into account the competition results. He ordered the design to Bogdan Treter who has not participated in the competition, an architect, and monuments restorer at the same time. The project was implemented in 1927-28. The manor and property were seized in 1945 by the State Treasury, and a police station, a school, flats, etc. were located at it, which contributed to its devastation. After the purchase, in 2004, of a very devastated building and remnants of the park, the present owner – an architect by profession, undertook design and renovation works, personally supervising them.
