Opis:
The purpose of this article is to present a coupler developed for the calibration of hydrophones at low frequencies in the Central Office of Measures (GUM). Due to the growing demand for marine environment research in the field of underwater noise, implemented in accordance with Directive 2008/56/EC, many models of autonomous underwater noise recorders have been developed. Ensuring the reliability of recorded data begins with the reliable calibration of hydrophones and/or the entire recorder. The choice of the calibration method was made on the basis of a detailed and broad analysis of calibration methods and similar solutions of coupling constructs worldwide. The analysis mainly took into account the documents of the last few years. On the basis of this analysis, the vibrating water column method was chosen and the construction of the coupler was developed. Regular calibration of hydrophones will contribute to reliable underwater noise monitoring in the Baltic region.

Opis:
Nowadays, there is a need to increase the continuous usage of the power electronic converters like AC-DC, DC–DC, and DC–AC based on various applications like mobile charge controller and telecom base station. Also, for power stability control, these converters are utilized in the renewable energy system (RES). The output cannot be stable for a longer duration due to the inappropriate switching pulse and continued usage of the converter. For resolving the above issues, the soft-switching technique is implemented in the proposed system for controlling both converter and inverter for proper energy stabilization during the continuous operation of devices. The main objective of this work is to improve the solar power system using high voltage gain DC / DC converter. Similarly, an inverter delivers the continuous AC power to the grid system without any fluctuations. The revolutionary substantial transformative control (RSTC) technique has been employed to monitor and control the converters used in this system. The additional advantage of this system is battery-based energy management, which is only utilized under necessary conditions. During the initial stage, RSTC will track the solar power, and it compares with the reference voltage and produces the appropriate pulse to the converter switch. Based on the switching pulse, the full-bridge converter (FBC) will also enhance the DC voltage by providing the constant voltage for the grid-connected inverter system. Secondly, the proposed RSTC controller will be monitoring voltage amplitude and frequency of grid power system. If any variation appears due to source power fluctuation, the controller will recognize it and automatically vary the pulse width modulation (PWM) of an inverter and compensate the grid power. The design analysis and operating approaches of the proposed converter are verified by MATLAB / Simulink 2017b. The performance analysis has been done with various parameters like total harmonics distortion (THD), steady-state error and converter efficiency.

Opis:
The paper deals with a simplified configuration of series HEV hybrid vehicles. Simplification consists of the downsizing of auxiliary 4QC converter needed for hybrid operational modes. Besides, operation in autonomous traction accu-battery modes uses direct 0x5 configuration of traction 3x5 McX matrix converter. Such a configuration can be derived from that main traction converter. Major advantages of simplified connection are beside smaller 4QC converter size – possible little bit better efficiency of the HEV powertrain. Chosen operational modes of modelling and simulation of traction powertrain configuration are focused on start-up and traction drive of HEV powered by ICE, start-up of ICE powered by AB accu-battery using SG as a starter, and traction drive powered by AB accu-battery and braking of traction motor moving energy into accu-battery AB. The results of all simulation experiments are given in the paper.

Opis:
This paper deals with performance of the 50 kVA three-phase converter built with switches based on SiC MOSFET and anti-parallel Schottky diodes. In contrast to popular IGBT converters, a negative switch current is capable of flowing through the reverse conducting transistor, which results in different distribution of power losses among the devices. Thus, equations describing the conduction power losses of the transistor and diode are improved and verified by means of circuit simulations in Saber. Moreover, a comparison of power losses calculated with the use of standard and new equations is also shown. Total power losses in three SiC MOSFET modules of a 50 kVA converter operating at 20 kHz are up to 30% lower when reverse conduction is taken into account. This shows the importance of the discussed problem and proves that much better accuracy in the estimation of power losses and junction temperatures of SiC devices may be obtained with the proposed approach.

W artykule zaprezentowano wyniki prac nad zmniejszeniem zużycia zasobów sprzętowych w mikroprogramowanych układach sterujących ze współdzieleniem kodów. Porównano dwa typy układów mikroprogramowanych: układ z konwerterem adresu oraz układ bez konwertera. Do syntezy i implementacji struktur wykorzystano oprogramowanie Xilinx ISE 8.2i. Zastosowano cztery dostępne w pakiecie ISE strategie optymalizacji.
The paper presents the results of investigations on decrease in hardware resources usage in microprogram control units with code sharing. Two types of microprogram control units are compared: a structure with the address converter and that without it. Xilinx ISE 8.2i package was used for synthesis and implementation of the microprogram control unit. Four optimization strategies available in the package ISE were applied. Two strategies focus on the resources usage optimisation (area level 1, area level 2); the other two - on the device maximum frequency (speed level 1, speed level 2). The target platform was the FPGA device Xilinx Virtex-II Pro xc2vp30-7ff896c).The test results show that in some cases the memory consumption drops even by 50 % in comparison with the implementation without the address converter. It should be noted that adding an additional block (address converter) to the microprogram control unit does not cause an increase in the hardware resource use. The paper is divided into four parts. First section is a brief introduction to the issues of compositional microprogram control unit design. In second and third sections the results of resource utilisation are presented. The last - fourth - chapter contains a summary.

Opis:
Food processing technologies for food preservation have been in constant development over a few decades in order to meet current consumer’s demands. Healthy competitive improvements are observed in both thermal and non-thermal food processing technology since past two decades due to technical revolution. Among these novel technologies, pulsed electric field food processing technology has shown to be a potential non-thermal treatment capable of preserving liquid foods. The high-voltage pulse generators specifically find their applications in pulsed electric field technology. So, this paper proposes a new structure of a high-voltage pulse generator with a cascaded boost converter topology. The choice of a cascaded boost converter helps in selecting low DC input voltage and hence the size and space requirement of the high-voltage pulse generator is minimized. The proposed circuit is capable of producing high-voltage pulses with flexibility of an adjusting duty ratio and frequency. The designed circuit generates a maximum peak voltage of 1 kV in the frequency range of 7.5–20 kHz and the pulse width range of 0.8–1.8 μs. Also, the impedance matching between the cascaded boost converter and the high-voltage pulse generator is found simple without further additional components. The efficiency can be improved in the circuit by avoiding low frequency transformers.

Opis:
Multilevel converters have been intensively investigated and developed since 1960s and have found successful industrial applications. The aim of this paper is to present state of the art as well as recent research and applications of cascaded multilevel converters, which are a very interesting solution for power distribution systems and renewable energy sources. Cascaded multilevel converters can easily operate at medium and high voltage based on the series connection of power modules (cells), which use standard low-voltage component configurations. Series connections of modules (cells) allow for high quality output voltages and input currents, reduction of passive components and availability of component redundancy. Due to these features the cascaded multilevel converters have been recognized as attractive solutions for high-voltage direct-current (HVDC) transmission, solid state transformers (SST) and photovoltaic (PV) systems.

Opis:
The object of this paper is a step-down (BUCK) power converter working in the continuous conduction mode (CCM) or discontinuous conduction mode (DCM). Two types of transient states in a converter have been analyzed and observed experimentally: slow transients, described by averaged models of a converter and fast transients, in the course of a single switching period. The averaged models of converter working in CCM, presented in various sources are similar, with some differences concerning only the description of parasitic effects. The averaged models for DCM depend on the adopted modeling method. Models obtained by the switch averaging approach are second-order models (containing two reactive elements in equivalent circuit representation). Models obtained by the separation of variables approach are first-order models. The experimental results given in this paper show the first-order type of transients. Another group of experiments concern fast transients in the course of a single switching period. The oscillations of inductor voltage in the part of a switching period are observed for DCM.

Opis:
The paper presents the control system and selected results of experimental tests of the AC/DC power converter consisting of an 18pulse diode rectifier based on coupled reactors and a serial active power filter. Proportional integral controllers with decoupling components are implemented in multiple reference frames for selective line current harmonic suppression. The regulator is provided with a backtracking anti-windup mechanism of sorts in which a signal proportional to the saturated control reference is subtracted from the error signal in each reference frame. The fundamental harmonic filter based on the DFT algorithm with phase correction is used for grid synchronization and current harmonic detection. Three configurations of the 15 kVA converter were tested experimentally and then compared: the 18-pulse diode rectifier with and without an additional grid reactor, and the rectifier integrated with an active power filter. The applied control method of active filter significantly reduces harmonic distortion and unbalance of the grid current, which is particularly advantageous under non-ideal supply voltage and low loads conditions.

Opis:
This paper presents the design and analysis of a polygon connected autotransformer based 36-phase AC-DC converter which supplies direct torque controlled induction motor drives (DTCIMD’s) in order to have better power quality conditions at the point of common coupling. The proposed converter output voltage is accomplished via two paralleled eighteen-pulse AC-DC converters each of them consisting of nine-phase diode bridge rectifier. An autotransformer is designed to supply the rectifier. The design procedure of magnetics is in a way such that makes it suitable for retrofit applications where a six-pulse diode bridge rectifier is being utilized. The proposed structure improves power quality criteria at ac mains and makes them consistent with the IEEE-519 standard requirements for varying loads. Furthermore, near unity power factor is obtained for a wide range of DTCIMD operation. A comparison is made between 6-pulse and proposed converters from view point of power quality indices. Results show that input current total harmonic distortion (THD) is less than 4% for the proposed topology at variable loads. A laboratory prototype of the proposed Polygon-Connected autotransformer-based 36-pulse AC-DC converter is developed and test results are presented to validate the developed design procedure and the simulation models of this AC-DC converter under varying loads.

Opis:
Solar energy has become one of the most potential alternative energies in the world. To convert solar energy into electricity, a photovoltaic (PV) system can be utilized. However, the fluctuation of sunlight intensity throughout the day greatly affects the generated energy in the PV system. A battery may be beneficial to store the generated energy for later use. A DC–DC converter is commonly exploited to produce a constant output voltage during the battery charging process. A Zeta converter is a DC–DC converter which can be used to produce output values above or below the input voltage without changing the polarity. To deal with the inherent non-linearity and time-varying properties of the converter, in this paper the sliding mode control (SMC) is first analyzed and exploited before being integrated with a proportional-integral (PI) control to regulate the output voltage of the PV system. Disturbances are given in the form of changes in input voltage, reference voltage, and load. Voltage deviation and recovery time to reach a steady-state condition of the output voltage after disturbances are investigated and compared to the results using a proportional-integral-differential (PID) controller. The results show that the proposed control design performs faster than the compared PID control method.
