    Opis:
    Im Zentrum der Überlegungen stehen die jiddischen Sätze, in denen an der Subjektstelle das expletive ‚es‘ erscheint. In Anlehnung an die Satzbeispiele der verschiedenen Konfigurationen für die Einfügung sowie Tilgung der Expletive werden Gedanken zu den syntaktischen Eigenschaften des Expletivs in jiddischen Sätzen gemacht. Es wird eine Antwort auf die Frage gesucht, wie diese mit den Entsprechungen aus dem Deutschen und Polnischen als Kontaktsprachen des Jiddischen korrelieren. Ein Vergleich mit den deutschen und polnischen Sätzen soll eine bessere Einsicht in die Strukturen ermöglichen und sie in den größeren funktionalen Rahmen des Diskurses einordnen. Es wird gefragt, wie sich die Grundannahmen des „Minimalistischen Programms“ von Chomsky mit den Daten des Jiddischen, Deutschen und Polnischen vertragen.
    W centrum uwagi znajdują się zdania języka jidysz, w których na miejscu podmiotu występuje zaimek ekspletywny ‘es’. W odniesieniu do przykładowych konfiguracji zdań z zaimkiem i bez zaimka ‘es’ analizowane są cechy syntaktyczne zaimka ekspletywnego w języku jidysz. Porównanie ze zdaniami języka niemieckiego i polskiego ma na celu zbadanie, na ile cechy charakterystyczne dla języka jidysz korelują z językiem polskim i niemieckim jako językami, które wpłynęły na kształtowanie się języka jidysz. Artykuł jest poszukiwaniem odpowiedzi na pytanie, czy główne założenia Chomskiego w „Programie Minimalistycznym” odpowiadają cechom syntaktycznym języków jidysz, niemieckiego i polskiego.
    The main focus of analysis are sentences in Yiddish in which the subject position is occupied by the expletive pronoun ‘es’. On the basis of various configurations of sentences with and without the expletive pronoun ‘es’ we analyze syntactic features of the expletive pronoun in Yiddish. The issue of interest is how these features correlate with those of German and Polish counterparts, since the contact with these languages influenced the development of Yiddish. The comparison with German and Polish sentences should allow for a better insight into the structures and put them in the functional frames of discourse. Another question is this of how the core assumptions of the “Minimalist Program” by Chomsky agree with the data provided by Yiddish, German and Polish.

    Opis:
    Ulrich Engel hat mit seinen Publikationen zur deutschen Grammatik, zur Verbvalenz und zur kontrastiven Linguistik große Wirkung auf die internationale germanistische Linguistik ausgeübt. Weniger bekannt ist, dass er mit seinem Werk auch andere linguistische Teildisziplinen beeinflusst hat, die davon bis heute profitieren. Dependenzielle Ansätze spielen bei der maschinellen Syntaxanalyse mittlerweile eine zentrale Rolle, und bei der Entwicklung von Systemen zur maschinellen Übersetzung haben Engels Arbeiten ebenfalls ihre Spur hinterlassen. Der Aufbau von Sprachressourcen in Gestalt von „Baumbanken“ kann auf Engels Grammatikkonzeption zurückgreifen, und auch zur neuerlich florierenden Konstruktionsgrammatik bestehen klare Bezüge. Im Beitrag werden diese weniger bekannten Einwirkungen von Engels Werk in andere Bereiche dargestellt und in ihrer andauernden Aktualität gewürdigt.
    With his publications on German grammar, on verb valency and on contrastive linguistics, Ulrich Engel has had a great impact on international German linguistics. It is less well known that his work has also influenced other sub-disciplines of linguistics, which still benefit from it today. Dependential approaches now play a central role in machine syntax analysis, and Engel’s work has also left its mark on the development of machine translation systems. The development of language resources in the form of “tree banks” can fall back on Engel’s grammar conception, and there are also clear references to the newly flourishing construction grammar. In this article, these lesser-known influences of Engel’s work on other areas are presented and their ongoing relevance is acknowledged.
