Opis:
The article deals with the complex history of the place and the circumstances of raising St. Martin Church in Barkowo near Żmigród. The author, however, focuses foremost on analysing and interpreting artistic phenomena related to the object. The architecture and furnishing of St. Martin church come as the crucial question amidst the author’s considerations being a fairly interesting example of Late Baroque sacral architecture from the area of the borderline between Silesia and Greater Poland. The church was raised in the years 1783-1787 within the domain of von Hatzfeldt family most probably as the foundation of the bishop of Wrocław Anton Ferdinand von Rothkirch-Panthen. Still it is not known who was its architect as there are no archival records referring directly to the act of building the church. St. Martin Church in Barkowo is an oriented, elongated, one-aisle building which was raised on a rectangular plan with an ellipse inscribed inside it. It consists of a nave, a narrower presbytery with a semicircular termination and a high square tower with a bell-shaped helm. A rare in Silesia two-layer scheme was applied in the church construction. It comes from the difference between the exterior view of a rectangular structure and the oval interior. The nave inside was covered with a slightly flattened dome supported by massive pillars that constitute a baldachin system. It comes as a frequent element in a repertoire of the Dientzenhofers’ architectural language. A special attention should be paid to a rich and almost completely preserved Late Baroque and Rococo furnishing of the church deriving from around 1790. It is constituted by a non-architectural main altar, twin side altars, a pulpit of an elegant form and a baptismal font, rich in its architectural and sculpturesque decoration. Besides, a Late Baroque sculpture group of St. Martin with a beggar is situated in the church. The furnishing is completed by objects deriving from the previous, not preserved, St. Martin church. These are: a Gothic figure of Pietá from ca. 1400, a Late Gothic sculpture of Crucified Christ and a Gothic bell from 1474, the latter discovered by the author in the church tower. Therefore the temple comes as a fairly valuable, both historically and artistically, example of a Late Baroque village church of Lower Silesia. As such, St. Martin Church in Barkowo richly deserves the attention of not only specialised researchers but also broader circles of art lovers. Eventually the church inscribes in a significant way into a cultural landscape of Lower Silesia as a precious monument of sacral architecture of the region.

Opis:
The issue of sonic heritage in sacred historic buildings is gaining popularity and becoming a frequent subject of discussions. The Baroque St Joseph Church of Carmelite Fathers, a minor basilica, is, architecturally and culturally, an exceptional place in Poznań, a city located in western Poland. The church is often used as a concert venue. It underwent an acoustic study with the use of a sound source situated in the presbytery and on the pulpit. The aim of this paper is to present results of acoustic investigations and to compare its acoustic properties with other churches. Acoustic parameters acknowledged as primary values used to assess acoustic properties of a religious building were investigated and then compared with recommended values. Placement of the source in two measurement points rendered it possible to carry out speech intelligibility analyses for a variable position of the sound source, and, in effect, enabled functional assessment of the historic pulpit. Thus obtained results were compared with European Baroque churches whose parameters are available in the literature.

Opis:
Aktualnie obiekt doprowadzono do dobrego stanu, ukończone zostały wszelkie prace renowacyjne.
This study discusses the history of the rise of the Baroque parish church in Radecznica at the turn of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, as well as its later fate closely related to Polish history, which significantly influenced the original design of the church and the destruction of a part of the seventeenth-century décor. The present appearance of the church’s interior is mostly a recreation of polychrome, altars, paintings, under the strict care of the conservator of monuments, which had not survived due to being damaged by fires and transformation (successively into an orthodox church, monastery), and confiscation and looting during the Communist era. The church is a little-known and underrated work of Jan Michał Link, the author of Zamość’s fortifications. It has survived without any stylistic changes to its body, and also impresses with the polychrome by Gabriel Sławiński. Currently, the building has been restored to good condition and all renovation work has been completed.

Opis:
A pilgrimage church under the invocation of the Holy Saviour at Glotów in Warmia boasts a number of historic furnishings, out of which the organ built in 1865 by Terletzki of Elbląg deserves most attention. Of particular interest is the fact that the organ combines two epochs: traditions of baroque and design foundations prevailing at the time of organ’s execution. The frontal framework of the organ’s console, decorated alternately with pipe’s planes and towers, the two biggest o f which protrude to the front, represents baroque features of organ prospects. A great number of pipe towers points at links with baroque prospects o f French organs which show a close resemblance to, i.a., the organ found in cathedrals in Reims and Dijoin. The example o f the extension of organ construction in baroque style onto he 19th century are also mechanically valved wind bends and mechanical tracts, a group of three wedge-shaped bellows put into motion with foot levers and also other elements typical of baroque organs such as a tympan and a ringing mechanism. A marked supremacy o f basic registers reflects romantic traces popular in the organ construction in the last century. Out of 30 vocal registers divided into 2 manuals and one pedal, as many as 19 are 8-stop registers. The instrument, preserved unchanged till to-day (except for prospect pipes disassemblied during the World War I and replaced with new ones) may provide excellent material for studies on the 19th-century organ construction. Vast destruction which has taken place recently and loss of some interior elements make it impossible to normally use this interesting instrument. Both the values of the organ, its present condition and its historic character call for some indisnpesable specialistic and conservation works to be done with the view to reconstruct precisely all missing elements and to enable its use. The works carried out on the basis of conservation guidelines will provide an evidence o f properly understood protection and conservation of historic organs in Poland. The reconstructed instrument may serve, i.a., to arrange summer concerts of organ music
