This paper presents a cascade system which stabilizes the transverse deviation of the ship in relation to the set path. The ship’s path is determined as a broken line with specified coordinates of way points. Three controllers are used in the system. The primary controller is the trajectory controller. It generates the set value of heading for the course control system or angular velocity for the turning control system. The course control system is used on the straight line of the set trajectory while the turning controller is used during a change of the set trajectory segment. The characteristics of the nonlinear controllers are selected in such a way that the properties of the control system with the rate of turn controller are modelled by the first-order inertia, while the system with the course keeping controller is modelled by a second-order linear term. The presented control system was tested in Matlab-Simulink environment. The results of tests performed on a lake are presented and discussed.

Among the ancient rhetorical figures there was no allusion though undoubtedly, it constitutes a kind of figure. Aposiópesis and parosiópesis seem to be the closest to it because they take into consideration keeping silent and a concealment. From the newer subject literature, especially the work of K. Górski 'Literary Allusion' (1984) is worth one's attention. According to the author, 'any allusion is talking about an object without mentioning it in a clear way'. The theory of allusion is enriched by the works of J. Rokoszowa about keeping silent and K. Pisarkowa about concealments. The author of the latter work decided to investigate the process of allusion communication in concrete texts. In an unliterary allusion that took place during a telephone conversation of certain criminal procedure participants, a huge role was performed by pronouns as substitutive names of objects that were in a con-situation and that were subject to a penal proceeding. In the literary allusion documented with the examples from Czeslaw Milosz's poetry, one could see references to commonly known works from an external context. The author defines an allusion as a semantic stylistic figure based on double meaning. The signs expressing an allusion are characterized by different degrees of explicitness. The process of allusion making is selective and therefore, it can be stylistically marked.

The internet is usually presented as a medium that gives unlimited freedom to the user. The main purpose of the article is to characterize the concept of the filter bubble. It describes the mechanism that can significantly affect the type of content that Internet users encounter on the Web. By limiting content to those that are compatible with the worldview of the person seeking information, the filter bubble can significantly limit the freedom of seeking information. The article also presents several ways that can limit the negative impact of this phenomenon.

This paper presents a new approach which makes it possible to take into account seakeeping qualities of ship in the preliminary stage of its design. The presented concept is based on representing ship’s behaviour in waves by means of the so called operational effectiveness index. Presented values of the index were calculated for a broad range of design parameters. On this basis were elaborated analytical functions which approximate the index depending on ship design parameters. Also, example approximations of the index calculated by using artificial neural networks, are attached. The presented approach may find application to ship preliminary design problems as well as in ship service stage to assess sea-keeping performance of a ship before its departure to sea.

The goal of research presented in this article is to check if a neuroevolutionary method with direct encoding is able to be a part of autopilot of the vessel. One of the important tasks of vessel autopilots is to keep a course as straight as possible or to bring the ship back on the route as efficiently as possible. In this paper, the adaptive neuroevolutionary autopilot is described and tested on a simulation model of a ferry. Neuroevolution is a combination of two different but related fields of artificial machine learning: evolution and neural networks. The combined method is very flexible and can be applied to other ship control tasks. The results of computer simulation of the neuroevolutionary course-keeping system have been included.

The paper presents the evaluating criteria for DP vessels. A few persons tried to give a simple tool for comparing the station keeping capability between different ships. It was started in the seventies when most vessels claiming to have a DP system would be carried away by the current only (the limit was 1.5 up to 2 knots). Mainly DNV and ABS, next IMO prepared the calculating methods for DP system evaluation during the design process to receive the DP class 1, 2 or 3. The regulations may help but it’s still only rough estimate. One of them is the most popular. It is the capability plot presenting at preliminary the polar diagram with number envelops, showing the vessel’s capability to keep position or heading with a certain combination of thrusters in operation. The number, type, total power (or thrust) and location of thrusters are vital for estimating the DP capability from the propulsion system. The other equipment is only accessories assisting the DP system. At the end the sea trial may check and confirm the DP class of the vessel. The real capability for station keeping will be verified during normal operation, essentially during emergency situations like electric network faults, propulsion system failure up to damages and fire. It is needed some indexes or parameters during the design process to avoid serious faults. The paper is a probe of becoming familiar with chosen criteria.

To solve the nonlinear control problems of the unknown time-varying environmental disturbances and parametric uncertainties for ship course-keeping control, this paper presents an adaptive self-regulation PID (APID) scheme which can ensure the boundedness of all signals in the ship course-keeping control system by using the Lyapunov direct method. Compared with the traditional PID control scheme, the APID control scheme not only is independent of the model parameters and the unknown input, but also can regulate the gain of PID adaptively and resist time-varying disturbances well. Simulation results illustrate the effectiveness and the robustness of the proposed control scheme.

The article discusses the influence of those environmental conditions on the human being that may cause sea sickness. Different indexes describing motion sickness are presented. Besides, a mathematical inter-relation describing the effect of waves and design parameters on the motion sickness incidence index is described. The relation has been used for developing design guidelines designers may use at the initial design phase.

The paper addresses an important issue in surface vessel motion control practice that the ship dynamics and sailing performance can be affected by speed loss. The vessel speed is significantly decreased by the added resistance generated by waves. An adaptive sliding mode course keeping control design is proposed which takes into account uncertain ship dynamics caused by forward speed variations, while avoiding performance compromises under changing operating and environmental conditions. The sliding mode control provides robust performance for time-varying wave disturbances and time-varying changes in ship parameters and actuator dynamics. After combining the unknown but bounded system uncertainties, the design of the adaptation law is obtained which is based on the Lyapunov’s direct method. Simulations on a ship with two rudders illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed solution.

Висвітлені головні документи (конвенції, рекомендації, декларації), на яких базується робота Організації. Визначено, що культурна складова роботиЮНЕСКО складається з актуальних питань: діалог культур, збереження культурної спадщини, охорона нематеріальної культурної спадщини тощо. З’ясовано, що освіті належить пріоритетне місце у діяльності Організації, особлива увага була приділена основним цілям«Освіти для всіх». Охарактеризовані важливі програми у наукові сфері: «Людина і біосфера», Міжнародна гідрологічна програма та ін. Підкреслено роль у сучасному світі таких складових діяльності ЮНЕСКО, як комунікація та інформація. Визначено перспективи діяльностіЮНЕСКО та вказано на важливість активної співпраці міжнародної спільноти для збереження миру у світі.
The article describes the main activities of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). The main documents (conventions, recommendations, declarations) on which the work of the Organization is based are covered. It is determined that the cultural component of the work of UNESCO consists of topical issues: the dialogue of cultures, the preservation of cultural heritage, the protection of intangible cultural heritage. It was found that education has a priority place in the activities of the Organization, special attention was paid to the main goals of Education for All. The important programs in the scientific sphere were characterized: “Man and the Biosphere”, the International Hydrological Program, etc. The role of such composite activities of UNESCO as communication and information in the modern world is  emphasized. The outlook for the activities of UNESCO has been identified and the importance of the active cooperation of the internationalcommunity in preserving peace has been pointed out.

In the deliberative genre there is a complex ‘playground’ of choices to present a recommendation; a rhetorician has to determine his or her position. Relevant dimensions are the coerciveness of the recommendation and the strength of its justifi cation, but also the presentation format, varying from prototypical narrative to prototypical argumentative. In different contexts this playground seems to be exploited in different ways and employed with different intensity. It is argued that this can best be understood in terms of different ideas about the management of the audience’s face and in terms of different concepts of rationality that prevail in specific socio-cultural contexts.
Formułując zalecenie, retor określa swoje położenie na „polu” (ang. playground) wielu możliwości, z których może skorzystać w ramach gatunku deliberatywnego. Koncepcję pola opisują następujące wymiary: przymus zalecenia i siła jego uzasadnienia, ale także forma przedstawienia – od prototypowej narracji po prototypową argumentację. W różnych kontekstach to pole wydaje się być wykorzystywane na różne sposoby i z różną intensywnością, co omówiono w niniejszym artykule. W zrozumieniu pomóc mogą koncepcje: zarządzania twarzą audytorium oraz różne koncepcje racjonalności, które dominują w określonych socjokulturowych kontekstach.

Hertha Nathorff’s life story can be seen as a revealing example of the fate of the other Jewish families in Germany during the Nazi era. Through the diary of Hertha Nathorff it is possible to get to know her personal impression, which concerns this period of time. The diary also shows the circumstances under which those German Jews who managed to escape the Nazi regime had to live and the agony that accompanied their decision to leave Germany. Finally, it provides information about the problems encountered by the exiled German Jews. For Hertha Nathorff, her diary was a refuge that enabled her to process the most difficult moments in her life and not to give up hope for her existence. The aim of the article is to illustrate the special role of keeping diaries in the period of dehumanization. It should show the special importance of keeping a diary in the process of maintaining one’s own identity and strengthening one’s self.

The article is exposing some results of the study in bee-keepers’ spell as a featuring trait of Ukrainians’ world-view practice; the present research is the first work of such a kind in the home ethnology. The spell belongs to that sort of ritual text that might be characterized by a vivid and most active speech with its fully evident magical strength. Spell as a genre of folklore refers to peculiar items owing to its archaic nature as well as to utilitarian functionalism, especially verbal destination, unity of sacral and profane articulation. The world-view ground of spell has been always heterogeneous as that originated and developed through the ages  with  fixing  so  prime  of  human world-consciousness  as  historically  later  (Christian) epistemological and axiological picture of the reality. In the paper the bee-keepers’ spell has been  considered  because  of  its  religious  and magical  contents  that  has  quite  significant spread so in everyday bee-keeping practice (occasional aspect), as in the contents of yearly religious  festivals  (the  calendar  one).  The  aim  of  bee-keepers’  spell  has   been  getting a concrete practical result, i.e. successful functioning of apiary.

The article presents an original adaptive ship course-keeping system. The control algorithm is based on a knowledge base. Its integral part - a computer ship movement dynamical model - uses a set of signals obtained from the object’s input and output. In this way we avoid problems arising while designing classical control algorithms for a complex, non-linear ship model. Approximators utilizing base functions of the model are used for model adaptation. The presented methodology is general as it can also be applied in other ship control tasks or to other dynamic objects. The proposed intelligent course-keeping system has been verified by simulation.
