    Opis:
    A Bernardine Friary in Piotrków was founded by Florian Starczewski in 1625. It belonged to Kujawy-Kalisz Diocese till 1818 and since 1920 it has belonged to Łódź Diocese. Till 1628 it was in the Wielkopolska Bernardine Province and since 1920 in the Polish Province. In 1864 tsar’s authorities closed down the friary because of the friars’ involvement in the so called “January Uprising”. They were taken to the appointed Bernardine Friary in Warta. Quite a few of them decided to secularize. With the closing of the Friary philosophical studies closed down in Piotrków Trybunalski. Only a few Bernardine students managed to finish theological studies and be ordained. After the Friary closing down its buildings as well as the church fell into ruin. In 1922 Kujawy-Kalisz bishop Stanisław Zdzitowiecki allowed Bernardine Friars to reclaim Piotrków Friary and the church.

    The history of the parish dedicated to the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Kraśnik after the dissolution of the monastery of the Canons Regular is an interesting and worth studying case of the conversion of the former monastic parish to the diocesan one, which, however, retained at least the vestiges of the presence of monks, both in sacred buildings and in certain manifestations of pastoral practice. The latter requires more careful study and description. There were two similar cases in the diocese of Lublin – two Piarist parishes in Chełm and Opole Lubelskie before 1864; other monasteries, though active in the pastoral field, were not involved in running a parish. A more thorough study on the history of this parish could probably shed some light on how the Church performed pastoral work when faced with the restrictions imposed by the Tsar after the January Uprising. The years after 1970, especially the construction of the church in Kraśnik Fabryczny, are part of the most recent period of history and should be the subject of a separate study.

    Artykuł jest próbą przedstawienia Zakonu Ubogich Rycerzy Chrystusa i Świątyni Salomona, genezy jego powstania, działalności w Ziemi Świętej, idei, jaka mu przyświecała, struktury funkcjonowania, a także roli, jaką odegrał w Europie i w Polsce do jego rozwiązania, tj. kasaty zakonu. Celem publikacji jest przybliżenie historii i działalności templariuszy z uwagi na fakt, iż wciąż ich koleje losu cieszą się dużym zainteresowaniem. W przedstawionym materiale zwrócono uwagę na rok 1241, kiedy to Mongołowie najechali na Polskę, w wyniku czego złupiony został Śląsk, a templariusze ponieśli znaczne straty.
    The article is an attempt to present the Order of the PoorKnights of Christ and the Temple of Solomon. The origins of their creation, activities in the Holy Land and the idea that guided Temple of Solomon. Moreover, article exhibits thestructure of functioning, the role the Order of Poor Knights of Christ played in Europe and Poland, to its solution – the so-called dissolution of the order. The aim of the publication is to present the history and activities of the Knights Templar due to the fact that their fate still enjoys great public interest. In the presented material, is drew attention to the year 1241, when the Mongols invaded Poland, as a result of which Silesia was plundered and the Templars suffered significant losses.

    Opis:
    The unexpected news about the suppression of the Society of Jesus by Pope Clement XIV arrived in Warsaw in September 1773 during the Sejm summoned for the purpose of ratifying the First Partition of the territory of the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth. The pope decided to subordinate the schools and the estate owned by the Jesuits to the secular clergy. Despite the pope’s recommendation, the parliamentarians decided to nationalise post-Jesuit schools and their estate. A central state office, the Commission of National Education, was established to supervise those schools. The post-Jesuit estate, converted into an educational fund under the authority of the Commission, would be used solely for the operations of schools and teachers as well as for a profound education reform. The Commission was instituted on 14 October 1773 and took charge of education and public schools without exceptions. In 1776, despite many obstacles, it assumed full control over its educational fund and commenced work immediately. Despite the belief generally held today, in its 20 years of existence, the Commission of National Education was significantly transformed on several occasions and did not operate without stopping. What was invariable were the concept and objective of the Commission and its schools: to raise an enlightened, public-oriented and happy man, a good citizen and patriot, capable of building a happy and wealthy society and a strong state. In 1795, Poland lost its independence for 123 years, but owing to the Commission’s activity, a new nation was born that was prepared to fight for its freedom.
