Julian Tuwim’s stanzaic philosophy
Opis:
The aim of the article is to argue that Tuwim’s way of conceptualizing both the world and poetry was based on the principle of stanza. In his opinion, the entire world and our experience of it reach us in a stanzaic form. In Tuwim’s writing the stanza could be compared to an atom of poetic structure. It also builds our primary consciousness of language. The stanzaic structure of our poetic and linguistic experience imposes an order on the universe as we see it. Tuwim hears and thinks his world as a stanza.

Opis:
The article explores the connection between Julian Tuwim’s oeuvre and the concept of liberature. Coined by Zenon Fajfer in the 1990s, the term liberature accentuates the visual and spatial aspects of a literary text and highlights the fact that the meaning of a text depends on its material form. The author reconstructs Tuwim’s approach to formal experimentation related to the spatial and visual aspects of a text. To this aim, he analyses Pegaz dęba (written before 1939, first published in 1950, and republished in 2008), whose manuscript survived the war in a suitcase buried close to Tuwim’s house. The book is a collection and study of various genres and other forms of artistic expression which showed liberary features long before the term was coined. Ranocchi argues that although Tuwim treated what is now called liberature as an insignificant and marginal curiosity, he nevertheless defined it as an area of interest for both literary historians and writers. Thus, Pegaz dęba can be seen as the first Polish attempt to systematize the literary works that have more recently been labelled as liberature and as such won critical acclaim.

Julian Tuwim – contemporary reception
Opis:
The subject of the article is to present an outline of the reception of Julian Tuwim’s works in the last decade. “The Prince of Poets” of the interwar period, well known in the post-war era, is less and less known today. Post-war generations of poets made no particular references to Tuwim and his poetry, and even though many critical works are being published about him, Tuwim’s works do not engage critics who would be able to reconnect his writing with the contemporary world. Tuwim is disappearing from school literary curricula, contemporary readers remember only his children’s poems and one can doubt whether this situation can be changed by an extensive, multifaceted work by Piotr Matywiecki Twarz Tuwima (Tuwim’s face), the comprehensive and readable biography of the poet. It is an important book which tackles a number of vital questions concerning for instance the tragic alienation of the Polish Jew who lived between two cultures and wanted to be excluded from neither.

The article presents both the formal aspects of the poetics of Tuwim’s pamphlets (enumeration, hyperbole, grotesque, irony) and the figures of those who are the targets of his satirical addresses. Tuwim used verse satires to create polemical and ironic portraits of individual people (the main figure being a nationalist journalist and literary critic Stanisław Pieńkowski) as well as to ridicule state institutions, ideologies and political parties. The author also analyses pamphlet-like lyrical poems, columns and literary criticism by Julian Tuwim. In conclusion the author describes some elements of the cultural milieu which the poet refers to in his satirical writing (popular culture and the media, totalitarian ideologies, mass-society).

Opis:
The article describes the phonological games in the poetry of Julian Tuwim. Aspecial attention has been paid to the ways the poet constructs the vocal instrumentation with the use of aspecific choice of consonants and vowels and onomatopoeic words. Another thing that has been analyses was the relation between the emotive vision of the representational world and the lexical entan-glements that accompany stricte phonetic phenomena.

The article offers a comparative analysis of a lost painting by Witkacy (know only from a photographic reproduction) and a poem by Julian Tuwim. Tuwim’s poem inspired Witkacy to create his work. The poem is used by the author as a model for interpreting philosophical aspects of Witkacy’s painterly composition, offering a concluding remark that the visual translation of the poem reflects Witkacy’s aesthetic philosophy. The article also provides an new way of reading Tuwim’s poetry in which the painterly aspect of his writing is being particularly exposed.

Opis:
In this article, the author discusses the subject of pro-peace education with the use of poetry, and its influence on the mental well-being of children. She indicates Julian Tuwim as one of the Polish trailblazers of the 20th-century trend of mindfulness, which instructs how to establish a harmonious relationship with oneself and the environment. She discusses studies which focus on the methods used when working during school lessons of the Polish language; methods which employ mindful poetry. The author argues that there exists a relationship between internal equanimity and global peace.

In this paper we present some of the translation difficulties that may arise while recreating the emotions described in two poems: Trudy majowe and Lekcja by Julian Tuwim dedicated to the daily life in Poland in the period between the wars, that is one of the main themes of the author’s poetry. We intend to demonstrate different images and linguistic strategies that present some profound links between the historical circumstances and personal experiences of the author that might be difficult to translate into Spanish, as well as may result from cultural and structural differences between two languages.

The author analyses Tuwim’s "Bambo, the Black Boy" and tries to point to a number of interpretative paradoxes that have accumulated around its multiple readings. Particular attention is paid to the racial readings of the poem. What is more, the author discusses a variety of contemporary contexts in which the famous poem functions; these are often politically incorrect readings and interpretations which make no sense of the historical context in which the work was originally written. The article offers a detailed analysis of the origins of the poem and the circumstances in which found its way to the school primer. The poem is seen as expressing the need for accepting otherness and fighting cultural stereotypes.

Tuwim’s poetry
Opis:
General aim of the article is to show city in Julian Tuwim’s poetry oppositely to older perspectives. Mostly critics write about his poems that they contain images of urban life and reflections of sociocultural change. I invert this traditional order and try to prove that city is created and seen by new ways of thinking – that the city is modified (not poetics first). I use Michele Certeau’s ideas, because they are similar to Tuwim’s literary praxis. Certau writes about “walking in the city” creating by language (rhetorical devices named synecdoche and asyndeton). Moreover, Certeau describes three types of “spatial requirements”: creating own space, non-time instead of tradition and appearing of new subject (common and anonymous). Reading Tuwim with Certeau’s theses gives a new look into modern city and his literary representations.

The article attempts to argue that Tuwim’s personality and work can be explained by looking into his early childhood and writing. It is definitely the period inadequately explored by critics. The author discusses key moments in the poet’s biography and most crucial elements of his work, paying particular attention to controversies triggered by some texts and themes in his writing. The article also focuses on the analysis of conflicts that Tuwim suffered from in his life. Tuwim’s strategy of provocation is also taken under scrutiny. The article presents Tuwim’s poetry as a lasting contribution to Polish literature and as a body of work which manages to resist ideological readings.
